I chased Buffalo & Pittsburgh train "SARE" which operates as a turn job between Salamanca, NY and Arcade, NY. I was able to chase the return trip between Machias Junction and Salamanca, although I only shot video between Ashford Jct and Salamanca.
BPRR 887, an EMD GP9 did the honors. 887 was originally built for Norfolk & Western in 1959, and still retains it's RS3L horn. BPRR 2031, a GP38-2 that started it's life on Conrail was on the trailing end.

Does SARE not run in the winter?

Honestly it depends. Sometimes they move the local job (usually BF-1) and run it out of Salamanca because it’s easier. Don’t know if this has a set time during the year, but I know SARE is not currently running

@@VCUrailfan15productions Me and a friend think that maybe the quarry in Machias is only open during the summer to help fill demand, and that is when SARE runs.
When it's closed in the winter, the run to Arcade is made from Buffalo since it is a shorter distance.

That very well could be the reason
