  • NS 1627, a Norfolk Southern High Hood EMD SD40-2 put on a beautiful display of classic railroading on March 30, 2024.
In the lead of local V08 - a turn local between Richmond and Crewe, VA - 1627 roared along the Norfolk Southern Richmond District which is an ex. Southern Railroad Branch Line spanning about 90 track miles between Burkeville, VA and West Point, VA.
1627 boasts a blaring RS5T horn, which has become few and far in between in this day an age.
We chase the westbound run of the turn job into the setting sun. Through towns such as Midlothian, Mosley, Amelia, Jetersville, and finally Burkeville before the light fully faded away.

I like this video. I was using my imagination. That the Norfolk and Western had merged with the New York Central in 1956. With the New Haven at the same time. An independent Railroad would have to come out of the old New Haven. And this train is running on the Southbridge Mass to Charlton Mass crossing the diamond at East Brookfield Mass. Heading up to North Brookfield Massachusetts. Up the New Braintree-Athol-Ware River Branch line to drop off some cars in Gardner Mass. And Athol Mass for the Boston and Maine. AKA Pan Am railways later on which would be owned by Canadian National
