    I was really close to buying the A6700 but went for the FX30 in the end to avoid overheating. I love it and it's excellent for photos for what I do which is mainly portrait and slow moving nature or landscape scenes. A bit to learn coming from the ZVE10 but worth the upgrade for the ibis alone.

      @sergiubn I have a Tamron 16 to 300 which I love its f3.5 to f5.5 with stability built in. My other.lens is viltrox 23mm f 1.4 which is good in low light but focus hunts quite a lot. Its manageable by stopping to f2.8 or smaller. Toying with getting the tamron 10 to 18mm. F2.8

    I own the A6700 and I actually got a temperature warning while scrolling through the menus and setting up the custom buttons 😂 (yes it is set to high temp). I shoot both video and photos so it works for me with the Ulanzi V2 fan. I do plan on getting the FX30 as soon as the price drops a little more. Both would be ideal for me.

      Hey i'm in confusion which should i buy a6700 or fx30? does the a6700 still overheats with ulanzi fan and can you feel the heat in your hands?

      @@rahulrg2150 If you do anything professionally for video get the FX30. If you're a hobbyist and still want to shoot great photos get the A6700. It doesn't overheat with the fan, BUT it's one more thing that needs battery power and the fan battery is not large enough for long shoots.

    I ended up having both. Perfect for my use case. And I love that they share lenses and the video output is the same. I do UA-cam interviews of tattoo artists with lots of traveling. So the lighter and cheaper APSC gear is perfect.

    you mentioned something that some don't.. which is while adjusting the scene the camera builds up heat.. I was considering the 6700 because I don't record more than 2 mins but adjusting the scene sometimes takes 15mins.. so yea I think I will get a cheap cam for photography and the fx30 for video

    Another great video ! PS: I own DSLRs that shoot anywhere from 10 to 20 fps, yet, I have never shot in any other mode but Single Frame Mode - and I shoot about 4TB a year. So the speed in Photo Mode on FX30 is not really important to me. I purchased FX30 strictly for video, so Photo Modes are secondary to my use. But I am aware of that option and I am not afraid to use it if situation calls for quick still photo. Thank you for sharing your opinion !

      Thanks! My dogs and cats never sit still so I’m always blasting away with the shutter flapping away. It’s nice to have the option but I still value all the video stuff of the FX30 more

    when you vs them both. the FX30 is geared more toward video and the a6700 is geared to better image quality for shooting. However, having both myself i have to say during video the FX30 w/ the fan will last much longer as far as "overheating" BUT the Auto Focus on the A6700 is by far superior in speed time to focus on targets. besides the little stuff this is what i have found.

    Thanks for sharing these insights. I've been leaning in the direction of a6700 + a fan. I'm mostly video but I like the evf for bright conditions and occasional photo. And your final point about size and not being too conspicuous seals the deal in favor of the a6700. And Sony has good reseal value so if you choose wrong it's not too costly to fix.

    • @PhillipRPeck
      @PhillipRPeck  2 місяці тому +1

      As far as the image, there is no upgrade. They're effectively the same camera. If you want a camera more tailored to shooting video, more rugged, longer record times, bigger and more accommodating for rigging, then, yeah, the FX30 is a good choice

  • @focuspulling
    @focuspulling Рік тому

    The EVF as a third point of contact for stabilization and framing is a pretty huge plus for the a6700, but if you say there's overheating when recording (on battery power) at 4k 30p in 10-bit 4:2:2 before the one hour mark, that kills it for me.

    • @PhillipRPeck
      @PhillipRPeck  Рік тому

      I generally got over an hour of 4K 24 recording in reasonable temp conditions, but under an hour of 4K 30 live streaming. It’s a mixed bag of conditions and variables that’s for sure

    • @focuspulling
      @focuspulling Рік тому

      Guess it remains to be seen; I have an a6600 that doesn't overheat after even a couple of hours at 4k 30p, but it's possible (not likely) that livestreaming somehow triggers more heat in the a6700 (I'd think the opposite, since it's not encoding on-the-fly into XAVC along with writing into storage). 10-bit 4:2:2 is a bigger data haul so maybe that's it -- or not. The ironic result could be that I nab another a6600 just to avoid overheating, at half the cost of a second FX30. (I do a lot of multicam concert shoots.)

    Great content. If you were to buy a camera today, would you purchase an fx3, Canon R6 Mark 2, or Zv-e1 for vlog/doc content or any other suggestions

    • @PhillipRPeck
      @PhillipRPeck  Рік тому +1

      I guess I wonder what the ratio of vlog to doc content is because both the FX3 and R6ii seem a bit overkill for vlogs, especially the FX3 in terms of price and the R6ii in terms of size but the ZV-E1 might be a bit limited for docs.
      If I could find a great deal on a used FX3, I might reach for that one, but buying one new right now is a bit dicey because I have a feeling something new is right around the corner.
      The ZV-E1 is tempting because it's like 95% of the FX3 at such a reduced price. And it's a LOT smaller and lighter than the R6ii. So, I guess my all around answer is the ZV-E1 (plus the Canon lens lineup is so much more limited than Sony's)

    As a filmmaker it definitely makes more sense to get fx30. However the price difference is huge, esp in my country. i could get a great glass along w the a6700 and it would still cost less than the fx30. i do also love the occasional photo walks so its making perfect sense to go for a6700. Overheating is still a big concern considering how hot the climate gets where i live in the summer.

      That's a bummer about the price. The a6700 is a great camera, you just have to be realistic about its limitations and plan for them. There are several 3rd party cooling fans available now, too

    id like to have an EVF mainly and a shutter is nice i think the real deal ends up being are you good with straight 4k24 or do you step up and if so are you willing to deal with some bullshit like the ulanzi fan strapped on to mitigate heat and at that point is it still worth it. This is a real choice especially now when the fx30 is 1599 on sale right. I was looking to pickup another camera and its between these two honestly the choice sucks lol

    I want to make videos mostly of cars and here and there pictures ( very rare ) I'm leaning towards the fx30 but did not see many people use it for Cars. I wanna do speed ramps but also film cars driving ( rolling shots)

    • @PhillipRPeck
      @PhillipRPeck  9 місяців тому

      Yeah, don't see why either camera wouldn't be well suited for your needs aside from the relatively slow sensor readout which might introduce some slanted lines if you have fast cars moving across the frame or you do fast pans. But that's a problem with a lot of digital cameras and not specific to the FX30/a6700.
      Both cameras can do 4K60 with no additional crop as well as 4K 120 with a pretty hefty crop for your slo-mo/speed ramps.

      @@PhillipRPeck thinking about adding only because I take a lot of photos, I sold my canon 5d mark iv for the a6700. but one reason why I want the fx30 is because I saw this attachment for the fx30 called the cineback. it makes the fx30 into a cinema rig where you can use v mount batteries and makes the camera more box like. I think its really cool and compact. I own a RED and comparing the fx30 to that seems like more of a run an gun setup. I believe the youtuber DSLR VIDEO SHOOTER is the one who came out with the product. They mentioned they will come out for one with the a6700 too but I dk how it will work because on the fx30 you have those 2 mounting points to build off of.

    I have around $3k to spend on camera(s) not including lens, which camera will help me duplicate what YT channel Soft White Underbelly is using? A6700, Fx30, or other? I need to buy two cameras for different angle shots.

    • @PhillipRPeck
      @PhillipRPeck  Рік тому +1

      The a6700 and the FX30 will give you the exact same results. They have the same sensor and same image processing. Either camera will produce comparable images to that channel. If you want to do long form interviews like that, I'd recommend the FX30 as it will run all day long as long as you have power.
      However, if you want images that look like that channel, the lighting setup and backdrop are way more important than the camera. I'd make sure I had that stuff dialed in then use whatever money I had leftover for the cameras. Even a GH5 or Pocket Cinema Camera 4K would be good choices

      @@Nahhmah Just keep in mind the crop factor of the FX30. A 56mm lens designed for aps-c cameras is meant to be the equivalent of an 85mm lens on a full frame sensor in terms of field of view. So, if what you really want is a 50mm field of view, then you should look at something in the ball park of 35mm.
      I mean, it really just depends how much room you have to frame up your shot and without knowing that, I can't really say what is the appropriate lens.
      There are some apps you can use on your phone that allow you to try out different focal lengths paired with different sensor sizes
