We've asked they've listened. Check out calabash recent video. Xp just redesigned the antenna wire for the deus 2! Gotta love companies that listen and provide free updates to continuously improve our investments. Now if they'll get a carbon fiber lower shaft!
Gig, yes it costs $1600. But I bought a separate coil and upper stem and use the WS6 puck the master on that setup. The full remote is a water machine and the WS6 is the land. So I basically bought another Deus 2 for only $550. Two top end machines for $2100 is pretty good.
Calabash Digger has put out several videos on both the Manticore and 900. It looks like the water leakage problem is fixed. Also, they now come with a carbon fiber shaft with 3 sections, camlocks and better handle and cuff designs. Depth is equal to the Deus and yes, you can pretty much use either one right out of the box. I'm a land hunter so I have never had an issue with the 800 leaking and I love it. I am looking at the 900 as the coils interchange with the 800 coils and I don;t think I will use the added bells and whistles on the Manticore.
@@Gigmaster The big advantage that the Manticore has is the new feature of 'Long Pressing' the Noise Cancel. The DSP computer continuously scans, while you're pressing the Noise Cancel button for interfering EMI frequencies to find the quietest one. Manticore has also improved the electronics to deal with EMI. The Manticore EMI mitigation is the best of any VLF detector. Good for the beach hunter near hotels. Because of the superior EMI mitigation, the Manticore was able to increase the Sensitivity range. Sensitivity now jumped up from 30 to 35. This give the Manticore more depth than the Deus 2 on the beach. When the Manticore M8 coil (8"x5.5") is released it's going to be a very good relic detector. Target separation will be very good. And again because of the increased Sensitivity and EMI mitigation the smaller coil will go deeper!
Serious time in the field, and a solid review of the legend would be great. I think everyone would like to find a good machine that you can grab and go without having problems in the field or on a beach.
I am not a big fan of minelab, after the way, they kept shipping out, equinox machines to people, knowing that they were problems with the coil ears, and with leakage. They never fixed the problems, and I think it’s sucks for a company to treat the customers like that. However, a friend of mine, met me on the beach, the other day, and brought his manticore with him. I was very impressed with that machine! Now whether it will have problems similar to those of the equinox series, time will tell, but from my initial inspection and use of the manticore, I think they did address those issues.
I totally agree with you on the bad! I'm not the smartest person but as soon as I looked at the setup I knew it was going to be sketchy on keeping it charged.
Similar thoughts. I hunt in the water mostly, hundreds of hours a season here. Biggest issues with the D2 i tried for awhile, was the whole shaft setup, flexed too much, felt like it was gonna snap at the control/grip. Then that dang antenna rigging and charging that dang coil, a wired setup with no charging the coil would be better (for water). For land the D2 was better. Ran 2 Legends all the rest of 2022 water season. It’s unbeatable for the price, pretty well rugged, other than the flimsy/bendy arm shaft (will turn to a noodle in the sun on the drive to beach). Dunk in water for a bit, gets better, posted a video how to stiffen it up. Did better than nox’s i had run, on digging a lil less rusted old iron, pulled several deep golds from water iron patches with it. It funded its potential replacements, just got a nox 900 and manticore. Did recently see aftermarket cf shafts for D2’s that could solve the flex deal. Was a hassle to swap to dive setup too, had to build a dive shaft, and again the antenna deal was a hassle too.
I completely agree as I prefer my minelab 900 I did the upgrade lower carbon shaft on D2 with a 9” coil don’t like the antenna on D2 also so I use my 900 on the water
@@markkus1134 heard they’re gonna offer legends with full carbon fiber upper and mid shafts soon, so that should fix the bendy uppers deal and trim slight weight off. Recently tried another legend, but they just don’t id as deep as D2 or 900/manticores do, they do great otherwise though, imo/ime. Been struggling with deciding what to run this year, back n forth with “testing” 900 & mcore. Still not a perfect detector out there, lol. Wish XP would get rid of their old style S shaft setup, go wired, make lower shaft longer/sturdier(carbon fiber) and mid shaft shorter, so the coil won’t signal off the mid shaft end too. Have seen some aftermarket alternatives coming out lately for D2.
@@UABFWSS I hear you I have a spot on a river that I’ve hit hard with my 800 and two friends very few signals left went back this winter with my 900 I’ve found close to 50 more silver coins! I'm happy you're going to swing the legend again👍 Unfortunately you will probably find the volume of the underwater headphones disappointing, hopefully they will include a fix for that issue on some future update. Other than that I think the legend is right up there with the top dogs at less than half the price.
I agree with you on the DEUS II but I think the average Joe touching no settings can do very good with it. I was excited for the Manticore but the more I see and have to wait I have decided to not purchase one. The DEUS II can hold it's own against it so that is what I am staying with. When you said jumping machines and learning the sounds again is so true hard to beat those DEUS PWN Sounds. good video!
Good review Gig....just wondering what program you use on the beach....Beach or Beach Sens? I just got the D2 and am getting it set up for the beach. And which coil do you use mostly...the 9 or 11 for water and beach? Mike in sunny Florida
Glad to hear you will try the Legend again ... They have two new coils that are out Lg24 and Lg30 ! Also there an update of 1.11 coming out any day now . Great company and great machine.Cant wait to see your Legend videos !
Steve I wonder if a thin coat of JBWeld around the sill area of the ML would keep it from leaking since that is the spot that is the problem? JBWeld fills every crack and crevice solid and could be applied thinly. Just a thought.
Good point on digging most items at the beach but a lot of times there is a lot of iron and not sure the pulse would do a better job at distinguishing the difference.
Really like it I made a carbon lower shaft and have the 9” coil which is the perfect coil it balances nicely I prefer the minelab tones just crisp and clean I have the 900 it’s a much better detector than the 800
Thank you for your straight forward review. I have been pondering getting a new, waterproof detector and the Deus II was one. You pointed out the two weaknesses, the underwater coil wire and how the pod is easily knocked off I was worried about. I love your solution of putting the wire in the shaft. I would make it less vulnerable underwater. The price of the Deus II and Manticore make the Legend tempting. The Nox 900 looks good too, but I am not sure if it offers any improvement over the 800, beyond the new shaft and waterproofing. Thank you and look forward to your Legend review.
Tempted by the Deus 11 because of the light weight for those long days out. Seems to have good depth. If I get the Master will keep the cost down. Best wishes from Lancashire, England.
I have been happy with my Legend, had it in the water and no leaks. So far it seems to be good on picking up gold. I bought two of them instead of a Manticore as I wasn’t confident the Manticore wouldn’t leak. 👋👍
So glad you will use legend again, I got 1 for Xmas. Most of the utubes on legend are from England and there soil is very different than ours. Iam trying to not hear Pennie’s, and caps. I got the bottle caps without foil on them figured out now to turn off zinc tones?

I bought a cheap aftermarket replacement head unit holder that stops it being knocked off as that becomes old very quickly and can still remove by undoing screw. I’ve not added the coil wire yet even though hunt in the beach as don’t go into deep water. The sand scratches up the thin telescopic stems very quickly if you compact it down for transport in the car . Well we all know how deep this machine punches on the beaches and have just left machine in factory setting in beach sensitive so far and happy to remove bottle caps as could be a good target 🥳 on Uk pasture you have to change the settings if you want to get the best out of machine.
Philosophizing this morning, good stuff. The Legend has definitely impressed me, I found it a bit difficult to navigate the settings at first (where is that iron filter at? That took a minute to find when I was in the field after the update). It's easy after a few practice secessions to navigate the settings, modes, and menus (wish the icons and screen were a bit bigger). The Legend is definitely sturdy and waterproof I've definitely tested that. The shaft is a bit short for me and I had to drill out the hole at the top of the shaft to flush it with freshwater after hunting at the beach, otherwise you won't be able to move the shaft with the cam locks after sand and salt get in there. I also felt there was a little play/flex in the shaft while swinging in the water, spoiled by Anderson one piece shafts I guess! After hurricane Ian I pulled some extremely deep coins with it and was really impressed with its performance. Also have found gold and silver with it, so it's definitely up to the task! The Legend is the machine I recommend to anyone who asks me about starting the hobby while I'm out detecting. I do see room for Nokta to make a "Legendary" second version in a year or two as they are all about taking input from detectorist who are putting time in on the machine. If anyone has found a screen protector film that lets us see the screen when we are wearing polarized sunglasses PLEASE let me know what it is. Most all the machines need to have screens that are viewable with polarized sunglasses. I find both the Legend and the Manticore difficult to view with my polarized sunglasses (the Manticore is crazy had to see with polarized sunglasses and I have to turn the brightness on max even with the sun brightly shinning). Gig keep it up! Luckily for you it's to cold up there for me, so you don't have to worry about me getting any virginian gold! 🧲((((🪙💍⛏️⛏️⛏️🏖️
Not sure about polarized viewing issues but you could ask NuShield. I just received some film for the Etrac screen which is supposed to make it easier to see in the sunlight per some other users. They make several types of screen film.
I love my legend it's a really good metal detector especially for the price I've found 35 silver coins with the legend sense July of 2022 and the places I found them is places I've pounded and a lot of other people with the deus 2 and nox have pounded the same places and the legend still found silver coins behind them so yeah the legend is a good one
I am in complete agreement with your deus evaluation with good and bad the coil charging is not user friendly and the pod controller coming off is crappy . Doodads sells pod locking holder but mine broke in half at two small screws shaft holder but i still ordered two more because its a sound fix if it does not break in half at screws im not abusive in any way to deus it just was a flaw in its materials the original is hard hollow plastic but no locking device . Let us know about John boys new 900 thanks for your classes of knowledge.
I have the Deus2, and I absolutely love the machine. However, I agree 100% with your complaints about this metal detector. It bothers me that they will not address the issue of the remote control popping off all the time. Detecting Doodads does make an item that keeps the RC from popping off, but they are a pain in the ass company to deal with. They never answer emails, and you’re lucky if they ship your order out within a month, if at all!
Not worth it they still can't sort out silver target ID's being iron nails. Two buddies with 40 years experience each run Deus II head to head vs Manticore and the Deus II crushes it on depth and the Dues Ii calls the iron, iron the Manticore bounced from silver to possible Indian. This was as of a month ago and nothing has improved from Minelab
Great video Gigmaster, I also 100% agree with your review. The Xp 2 is a great machine in so many ways, however I absolutely hate that its a wireless machine, but its NOT because of that super long antenna wire getting in the way!! Still love my D2 though!! 👍🏻
QUESTION; what about the Manticore? Any of you using one, any thoughts? I love how Minelab made a scrolling menu that tells you what feature/mode you’re in. I find the Deus very easy to navigate but struggling with the Legend. First thing I need to do is put some white paint on the buttons so I can see them, then just watch videos and practice, lol
Thanks for the review, I can tell you on the black sand I have video proof I cuts right though it. I am using the Beach Sen in PA dirt and it is grabbing coins left and right. I got a year also under my belt doing a review to. Sound like we had similar experience.
Had same issues with it did the same shaft update but stripped the wire on the coil end and reinstalled it back in the holder then sealed it so it was back like original setup also using detecting doodads second version of the shoe to hold the pod works very well for me and also has a routing for the wire to go through the shaft I put two videos out on on my channel if you want to see it 👍ATB🦀
Great review! You left out the charging clip problem! Don Botting to the rescue (DetectingDoodads)! He offers a great charging clip replacement, and a mounting bracket to keep the Remote Control from slipping off. The unit should have had wireless charging for the price! I can picture a wireless charging mat big enough for the coil(s), headphones, remote control, and the MI6 pinpointer. Calabash has in hand (see his latest video) the new prototype "Light" shaft, and NEWLY designed "Wave Guide". The "Wave Guide" is now shorter, and black in color. The displays are really scratch prone too (remote and WS6), they should have been coated with something like Gorilla Glass. Hopefully XP will listen to your improvement ideas!
I bought the charger and it some times does not sit flush with coil and does not charge and pod holder broke in half at the screws that hold it to shaft i ordered two more hoping just got a lemon wish it was aluminum . From doodads and shipping takes weeks about 3 to be exact.
Wow, well I can't afford a Deus II anyway and I thought that wire for underwater was too fiddly. I can buy two Legends for the same price. Thanks for the honest review.
Bought the new Equinox 700 it is a fantastic deep machine. works just as well as the 900. Just does not have a prospecting mode which I would never use anyway. Great Video.. Always enjoy them.. Glad I returned my Deus 2, Iron Falsing was terrible It would hit 92, or 95 and its iron I tried everything nothing helped. Big Disappointment...
@@pigeonbloodruby5330 yes you get a few more notches of separation and a little more sensitivity which really does not translate to much at all. Yes a few more bells and whistles. I had the 800 for years and sold it for a 600 and I can promise i found more with my 600 than most find with their 800. I have reales, cobs, etc. "If you don't put your coil over it you'r not going to find it!" Thats after 45 years of hunting. Trust me I will put my 700 up against the 900 any day. I love my Deus 2 but have not tried it in the water. I’m hoping the Legend will hang in there with these top machines. Some guys love the Legend too. QUESTION GIG, Did the guy that made the holder for the pod ever get that perfected? The remote fit into a receiver that bolted into the pod, seems Calabash had one for diving. Thanks for the Gigdates, lol
Detecting Doodads makes a part that keeps the Deus2 remote control on the shaft. However, that company is a pain in the butt to work with. They never, ever answer emails. And it may take him sometimes three weeks or months before he even ships the item to you. And I know of one person who has a metal detecting blog, who never even received her order!
Minelab supposedly did indeed completely redesign the control to fix the leaking issue, according to Thomas Dankowski, who was part of the design team responsible for the Manticore.

My deus on beach p only goes 6 or 7 hours but my shoulders only should do 4 or 5 hours because im 60 with sport injuries so this coil only problem does not bother me My 800 did 12 hours deus coil is the weak link not pod or headset
@@Gigmaster they say battery life is only 9 hrs. I can see where background lights and flashlight would burn up battery. Just looks shy of a full day of detecting.
So this was good bad and ugly about xp deus 2 but you mostly talked about the bad and you kind of went off talking about other detectors too much? Not many good things to say about the deus from your video?
I do agree with the bad and ugly stuff you mentioned about the deus2 but it is amazing for depth, separation, beach and diving. Yes they do have to fix many of the things you mentioned and for the original price they should upgrade them for free🙂
If you don’t like the deus 2 don’t take French equipment, you are a big country and you are even more able to make a new detector where the great American inventors have gone !?🤔
Oh don't forget that the deus pinpointer go to the remote then to the deus headphones. Then you can change the sens on the remote. Great idea from deus

Hello when you go to the beach with the deus 2 do you run all metal mode???? Thanks for the videos
I always want to hear the iron! Gold is in those heavy patches!
My friend has this issue.
What do you think about the new Manticore. Would you buy one?
Still holding out for further reviews
I did that on the Legend too!
I want one of them silver Civil War belt buckles man can't wait to see if you make one of them
Thanks for the review, I can tell you on the black sand I have video proof I cuts right though it. I am using the Beach Sen in PA dirt and it is grabbing coins left and right. I got a year also under my belt doing a review to. Sound like we had similar experience.
Thanks
Had same issues with it did the same shaft update but stripped the wire on the coil end and reinstalled it back in the holder then sealed it so it was back like original setup also using detecting doodads second version of the shoe to hold the pod works very well for me and also has a routing for the wire to go through the shaft I put two videos out on on my channel if you want to see it 👍ATB🦀
Will check it out! Thanks
I'll pass, being in the jungles of Okinawa and snorkeling the beaches too. Like you, the less to worry about the better ...Thanks for being frank
is the Deux display hard to see in full sun?
They all are in full sun!
Bullet looks awesome!! I’m sure it won’t last long
Great review!
I will check that out.
I bought the charger and it some times does not sit flush with coil and does not charge and pod holder broke in half at the screws that hold it to shaft i ordered two more hoping just got a lemon wish it was aluminum . From doodads and shipping takes weeks about 3 to be exact.
Hey gig master I would love to have that silver civil war bullet that u made
Hello Gigmaster
Wow, well I can't afford a Deus II anyway and I thought that wire for underwater was too fiddly. I can buy two Legends for the same price. Thanks for the honest review.
Bought the new Equinox 700 it is a fantastic deep machine. works just as well as the 900. Just does not have a prospecting mode which I would never use anyway. Great Video.. Always enjoy them.. Glad I returned my Deus 2, Iron Falsing was terrible It would hit 92, or 95 and its iron I tried everything nothing helped. Big Disappointment...
Thanks for the info!
There are more advantages with the 900 over the 700 than just the GoldField option.
No Difference in Depth..
@@HighTones Looks like you have a sweet spot to hunt and some good detectors! HH
@@pigeonbloodruby5330 yes a great secret place . It has produced amazing coins and other artifacts. I wish I could share but there would be people coming from everywhere. 😀
He did modify it but not sure??
Detecting Doodads makes a part that keeps the Deus2 remote control on the shaft. However, that company is a pain in the butt to work with. They never, ever answer emails. And it may take him sometimes three weeks or months before he even ships the item to you. And I know of one person who has a metal detecting blog, who never even received her order!
@@Deus-Too It took awhile to get mine in but it works like a charm. So nice not having that darn control panel constantly falling off.
Minelab supposedly did indeed completely redesign the control to fix the leaking issue, according to Thomas Dankowski, who was part of the design team responsible for the Manticore.
Good to hear!
@gigmaster It's bad practice to run the cable against the coil.
The cable should rise up and away from the coil.
May reroute
@@Gigmaster Thank you, I'll sleep better knowing that 😃
I agree
@@martyv23 I've read that one of the biggest challenges the engineers and physicists have with the coil design, is figuring out how to route the coax cable, to have the smallest effect on the Rx coil.
@@Gigmaster This is an example of the coil cable interfering with the Rx coil.

Thanks for the update Steve. Glad you got the silver bullet sorted, no good to me here in the U.K. we don’t have any werewolves 😂😂😂👍
😂
Have you not seen, werewolf in London 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@Windsurfingaddict I’ve seen an American werewolf in London 😜
Hi, what kind of modification is needed to make de lower Legand shaft fit the deus 2?
Where it goes to the coil i have a video showing how to do it.
Sir great information thanks God bless you.
Thanks for the info ! I'll stick with my Fisher CZ !
Heard good results with that machine!
Gigmaster really appreciate your videos. And I know you're going to buy the equinox 900.
It is in the running!
Ty for your review on the deus 2
Informative
I do not like that the new minelabs have only 9 hrs battery life Gig.. I have come up short with the 800 and that's around 12 hrs. So gotta use caution.
The 900 and manticore only have 9 hrs??
My deus on beach p only goes 6 or 7 hours but my shoulders only should do 4 or 5 hours because im 60 with sport injuries so this coil only problem does not bother me My 800 did 12 hours deus coil is the weak link not pod or headset
The 900 has a run time of 12hrs and the Manticore is 10 hrs
@@Gigmaster they say battery life is only 9 hrs. I can see where background lights and flashlight would burn up battery. Just looks shy of a full day of detecting.
@@kevinscott4747 thanks that would be nice, guess got wrong info.
Thank you for sharing with us I enjoyed and good Luck to you.
MANTICORE is stacking up to be a really good machine. So far.
NO complaints?
Thank you
Deus 2 I think is still on top :)
all of my money has gone.
So this was good bad and ugly about xp deus 2 but you mostly talked about the bad and you kind of went off talking about other detectors too much? Not many good things to say about the deus from your video?
Light, waterproof, good depth, loud
I do agree with the bad and ugly stuff you mentioned about the deus2 but it is amazing for depth, separation, beach and diving. Yes they do have to fix many of the things you mentioned and for the original price they should upgrade them for free🙂
👍🏻
If you don’t like the deus 2 don’t take French equipment, you are a big country and you are even more able to make a new detector where the great American inventors have gone !?🤔
Oh don't forget that the deus pinpointer go to the remote then to the deus headphones. Then you can change the sens on the remote. Great idea from deus
