To be honest, yes the turbo setup would be the mindful thing to do. But the symphony of a high compression engine with ITB's cannot be beaten. Turbo's are beautiful for power, N/A is pure art.
at the end of the day its a tractor motor, turbo ftw
@@unknownmemory645 it doesn't have to be. High comp, ported head, bigger valves, reworked chambers. Lightened and fully balanced rotating assembly. Yes it's expensive, which is why almost everyone goes turbo nowadays.
Too bad you don't have the Huff engine, that would have come in REAL handy by about now lol.
I say take the oilsquirter block and put the N/A stuff in it, sort the oiling issue and use as is.
Meanwhile, prep the N/A penta big block you got from that boat (pepperidge farm remembers), drill for oil squirters also.
Nevermind the Toyota ITB's, slap a moderate 16v head (I know you're against it, but it's the only thing you haven't done yet) and some 50mm Webers on there, even if it doesn't make the HP you want its gonna spin the tires from a dead stop by just letting the clutch out at idle while on the brakes 😂
Dont let lahey catch you and ricky stealing rare volvo parts
17:09 i would say that little light under the hood is also pretty rare. It actually lights up automatically when you open the hood when it works.
Since already having a proper turbo car it would be cool to keep the gold car as NA-Warrior. The cool NA stuff dragged me to this channel back in the days!! Atleast go with 16valve head or with the 2.5L bottom. Or maybe swap a inline 6 from 960. Swap that 2.3Turbo to 200-series or maybe other 700/900 cleanish shell to have as fun daily. Theres so many options to go for but you do as you feel best to! :)
Some of my favorites are:
-960 factory side skirts
-740 heckblende
-rola 740-specific roof rack. I have never seen another one on the Internet or anything.
People who say to run ITBs have never run ITBs! Me and my buddy recently built an intake plenum for my 318ti bmw E36 to get rid of the variable length intake which is so restrictive, using stock cams and standalone ecu, it made 20bhp over standard and the average hp increased over the whole rev range and honestly it sounds as good as ITBs. I think something like that would be cool plus it’s not gonna drink fuel the way ITBs do or lose the power bottom end
as much as we all love a nasty N/A build, the simple turbo setup will always make more sense. thats why i went NA+T in my gold sedan.
so pumped to get that K cam in!!! thanks again for blessing me with such a gangster part!
Im still waiting for the miss buff build with the penta engine
Wheels and wings are such cool accessories as far as factory add-ons go. Thanks for sharing your Volvo swag.
I got Monroe air suspension on the rear axle on my 1988 740. Original and still working.
SE lip spoiler would look great on the back of a wagon
you can get light weight aluminium front control arms to, atleest my 780 87 originaly v6 has them :)
Cool good to know. I have my name on the wait list for Volvos at my U Pull it Wreckers. I got a vx3 cam the other day. Not because I needed it but because I couldn't let that go to scrap. I really like the V cam in my turbo but needs a the Nissan gearbox installed to make the most of it
I vote 16v turbo. Yoshifab style. Keep it simple.
2.5L penta crank, 160mm rods, Yamaha XT600 pistons, block decked by 1mm, fully built 531 with big valves, customized combustion chambers, high compression, a good aggressive NA cam, ITBs and headers and should get you over 200hp easily.
And I mean like over 13 static compression and a cam with something like 290-300° duration @1mm and over 15mm lift, then you are talking the NA language
Feeling like a Fiend for Volvo gravy these days. Regular uploads were so good, definitely took them for granted 🙏🏽 always stoked to see an upload
Goatie Koltan goes hard 💅
Hey ! Why not to build this 2.5 liter Volvo penta block you have with 531 head, k cam, itb, high compression pistons etc etc to make a NA monster Volvo oem+ !! I want to see this since you’ve bought the Volvo Powered boat
homie, keep the NA Goldie. Also my rarest volvo part is YOU signing my hood at the ipd last year. hope to see you and the homies in a few weeks!
Do an N/A 16 valve motor!
NA setup with two dual weber/fajs 48mm dcoe carbs😁
Bought a 965/S90 spoiler after seeing yours on the wagon, looks so sleek and understated as you mentioned
Also have full interior wood trim for the 900 series, and a pair of OEM 7 spoke Galaxy wheels but all will be going for sale fairly soon because i sold my dear brick :(
Lovely stuff all around, and i hope you stay N/A but i also understand if you go with the turbo because having a reliable, running turbo engine is more fun in the long run than a dramatic N/A engine
… but as you said, the soul of N/A is unbeatable! Good luck whatever you decide on👍
Stroker N/A all the way
I was thinking Penta bottom end just before you said it
Picked up a T5R a couple years ago and finally found a couple dark walnut shift knobs with the alcantara boot. Let manual swap commence!! The rally look with the grille and round lights looks awesome. Looks so nice I understand that it would fun to show it all around on a better fuel economy ride. 🍺
Keep it na forsure, would love to see any na setup. Doesn't need itb's if they're going to give you so much trouble tho
put the itb set from miss huff on the n/a volvo
I have a naturally aspirated automatic 744 with your name on it runs and drives after jump start
I found your channel super recently but can’t stop binging your vids. you are super entertaining. Keep posting!! You also look more and more like a Greek god every vid 😭
Need the miss buff 2.5 itb build
How about some sidedraft Webers
if you stay NA which I vote for, try to make it as fuel efficient / good power ratio as you can and if you go for another intake I vote for the itbs ofc first mod them to not have the cracking issue OR find the K-Jet volvo intake that people mod the injector holes into so it works on b230, as far as I know it should flow better than the stock intake in it currently.
can you do another video of the 12v cummins. im building mine currently with almost the same exact parts you put in yours. were you ever able to get it above 525 whp?
oouuhh the steering wheel is nice! hopefully picking up an original nardi from an old subaru tomorrow! Love rare parts!!
Are you sure that is a SE wing? Even in the "become a body builder" advertisement it's a completly different style, I was always led to believe that boxy style with the third brake light was from an SE
Vparts has new back lights like that and all white. I got a set of white lights all around for my 945 turbo in gold
all 960 wagons after the facelift had that spoiler
Compound turbo or supercharger/turbo compound. All the boost. You can thank me later. 🤙🏼
You seem so excited to show off your stuff and its so wholesome
Slap a good stock b230ft in er, 18psi, 93 with octane boost, send.
Some volvo penta diesels used that oil filler cap too
B230 VX3 cam and 531 head is a good NA start..
Or a 2,5 EVO ❤
You should come here 🇸🇪 and go around look on brutal Volvo's and bring a bunch of fun things home 🇨🇦 😎👍
I’d love to see a turbo motor in it with like a 16t
Do the Penta setup!
Dry sump conversion perhaps stop it running dry cornering hard
you think it would be possible to do a front end swap 740 to a 940? Specifically just want the 740 bumper and lip on my 940?
B230fk in goldie next?
Do the penta setup!
does anyone know where I can get a pair of the 740 wagon mudflaps?
Keep the gold car n/a and find a Penta bottomend.
Those tailliights are from a 945 classic. 960 taillights are straight/smooth in the bottom.
the ducktail/R sport wing for 700 series volvos are RARE. period. they are extremly hard to come by wether it is a Rsport or a SE wing. Roma steering wheel is also RARE!
Is 740 euro facelift front end rare in states and Canada ?
You're going to need to do something about the oil slosh situation either way, so a modified oil pan or accusump is needed whichever way you go. It would be a real shame to see you give up on the NA path. This channel just won't be the same without a good NA motor in the mix, screaming like a banshee. You know that head is good for way more power, I really think the B230 intake is all that's corking it up. KL has several options to fix that, or you could try again with some different ITBs or bike carbs or something. If the fuel thing is a big issue... it might be worth thinking about 16v. You can get way more out without having to go super wild on cams and such.
Kolts a Volvo encyclopedia lol
Go with a more reliable Na setup. Would be cool to see what kind of power you could get with a penta bottom end, Built head with high comp and do a B cam vs K cam vs that wild aftermarket one and see what's most practical.
Also if you put that stock intake back on make sure you port it like miss Huff. All that head work is being restricted by that pinch point by the injector hole.
Hell ya!
What’s happening with that ITB stack on the shelf?..
It kept breaking for him
If you ever have volvo front ligts then give me to know💪😁 coz here in norway hard to get ✌️
do a T5 swap!
How do we contact you to buy parts. I would like the steering wheel for my turbo wagon in Australia. Im going to keep that car going for a long time
You can contact me at driftsnlifts@gmail.com
You gotta keep the gold car NA
Maybe a b234f for the gold car 🤔
Definitely do not run that engine again, for the most part it would be able to be saved rather than getting it to the point of knocking. I did notice last video that oil warning light would come on when turning left so maybe in a new setup this could also be addressed with a windage/baffle setup if not already? Going forward in what setup to use next its hard to say as you are passionate about both NA and Turbo, but also to factor in that its your seat time car, current NA setup seems like allot of work with not so much return in you favour of hp, where as a stock turbo block with add Ons may bring more in the end with more seat time and power goal of 250hp and if not reliability. Its a hard one but the turbo setup just sounds like a known end goal with point and shoot?
Non turbo ftw
M50 turbo
My rarest Volvo part was an OEM 940 rear wing with integrated mid brake light. Never have i ever seen one on another 940. If i did see a wing it was an 850R saloon wing.
Other fun part was a cruise control kit for a manual car (not stock on lower spec Euro cars. My car was a 940lpt GL spec, it didn't even have a boost gauge).
I belief Volvo had a separate R-sport catalogue (paper booklet) that you could get from a dealer.
Another super nice part to have are a set of 960 front cross member strengthening braces.
(the early 740's and 760's had a tendency to develop cracks in the crossmember. Volvo fixed this with these brace brackets on the 960's
I retro fitted them on my 1997 940lpt.
Also the oem turbo brace between the 2 front suspention lower stays. It looks like a double bent bar going under the gbox. It fits on the OEM body bolts.
16v
Swap a Toyota Beams engine in goldie
ehhhh just LS swap it :D
Lemme get a K cam
First
QVC 💩
Gentle turbo setup seems like the way to me, you just have to control yourself and keep your hands off the boost controller!
