My first experience outside of the US was a three month summer internship in India. Definitely the other side of the world. You're right that nothing can prepare you for the chaos, but the greenery is a great contrast. Enjoy your time there, I hope it's absolutely incredible!
Wow that's a big jump from having never left the US at that time! Even after travelling to many countries in Asia we were still shocked arriving in India. The answer is the same: priorities , lack of pressure from the local residents, and that the cost of clean up is disproportionate to electoral advantages gained. There is another unique reason in India: the area is Islamic and the central government is a Hindu Nationalist one. This government has transformed cities like Varanasi and Ayodhya from a dilapidated state to a decent, visit worthy state now. They spent billions of dollars to clean up the holy Ganga. So they are fully capable of cleaning up Old Delhi. Make of this what you will.

I explained it pretty thoroughly in the video, multiple times. We were shocked by how beautiful and green Delhi was and the silence and peaceful pockets that immediately made us feel at home. What is portrayed in the media of Delhi is often times just the traffic, we didn't realize there would be so much greenery.

In India the restaurants don't open till later in the day. Safest would be to stay in a hotel or bed and breakfast that has complementary breakfast or paid food options. Alternatively you can get food from some corner stores that are inbetween a restaurant & a bakery/food shop. In larger cities or typical tourist places restaurants might be easier to find, but when traveling to less popular towns or tourist places, it's safer to stay in a place that offers some food options for breakfast. If you are going to be in India for 5 months, stay mindful of what your body is telling you- because food, water, air, linen in a hotel or travel industry conditions all can impact health & nutrition. That hair salon guy was likely looking to style your hair, he seemed like really into styling your hair, that's why he kept some of the hair. If you had some hair left on the scalp the sweat on it might keep you cooler longer. Delhi & many parts of India has much hotter climate in the October time. Nov to Jan will be much cooler in most of India. Cool, I like your videos, I like that they aren't too long. My dad was born in India, several generations there, all part of the raj, making railways etc, he was orphaned and was sent to live in a monastery with his brothers at age 3, (around 1930) in the mountains of Rajasthan. (he loved it, no bad memories) Apparently you can go and get the t shirt, lol. Unfortunately, I haven't made it there, one day maybe. You need a lesson in geography. You left out the best places which are in Kerala, Karnataka, TN. Conveniently these places are remembered only when you want to get a job and make a career. The whole of the country comes to Bangalore ( my home town) looking for jobs.

The best part about your Vlog is you both are unbiased and genuine. India is diverse and just like any other place, it has a good side and a bad side. It all depends on what you prefer looking. Delhi , Jaipur, etc places are okay for once in a life time experience that's it , if you ask any Indian they will say other places. Like North East, or Super North , south India, Islands , mountain, beaches , Jungles , there's so many options for tourism which are not that busy like these cities.

I would recommend you to avoid dirty chaotic big cities and go to Indian Himalayas- Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim etc. Ladakh is the most beautiful place in India and one of the most beautiful place in the world. to reach Ladakh you can go by domestic flight from Delhi.

One small correction Taj Mahal is not a original Islamic mosque or mausoleum the original structure is a Hindu palace and it is on the 7th floor of building that the artificial remains are placed which in a way undermines and degrades the original value and purpose of the Hindu building it was supposed to be a palace which has several floors beneath and many many rooms so it was never originally meant to be a graveyard for one single person and it was bought or I don't know was it threatened and taken away but it's not original Islamic or the newly constructed building in the mughal era

If you have the habit of listening to good advice, then hear me out. Don't compromise on food, drinking water and residence quality. Stay in reputable hotels. Don't stay in 10-dollar rooms and later complain about the security. Don't eat uncooked foor nor drink unbottled water Pack everything especially food, drinks, sweets and water you need for any journey before the journey. You can't find anything in railway stations and airports. Avoid too spicy foods. Submit a photocopy of your passport when booking your train tickets at railway stations and airports for unlocking your foreign tourist quota. Just relax and spend appropriate money wherever necessary instead of trying to save money all the time. That way you'll be more relaxed and enjoy more. Not all people/places are good, not all people/places are bad. So better to do business with reputed people/places and avoid shady people/places. Have a comfortable stay.

There is another unique reason in India: the area is Islamic and the central government is a Hindu Nationalist one. This government has transformed cities like Varanasi and Ayodhya from a dilapidated state to a decent, visit worthy state now. They spent billions of dollars to clean up the holy Ganga. So they are fully capable of cleaning up Old Delhi. Make of this what you will.

In India the restaurants don't open till later in the day. Safest would be to stay in a hotel or bed and breakfast that has complementary breakfast or paid food options.
Alternatively you can get food from some corner stores that are inbetween a restaurant & a bakery/food shop.
In larger cities or typical tourist places restaurants might be easier to find, but when traveling to less popular towns or tourist places, it's safer to stay in a place that offers some food options for breakfast.
If you are going to be in India for 5 months, stay mindful of what your body is telling you- because food, water, air, linen in a hotel or travel industry conditions all can impact health & nutrition.
That hair salon guy was likely looking to style your hair, he seemed like really into styling your hair, that's why he kept some of the hair. If you had some hair left on the scalp the sweat on it might keep you cooler longer.
Delhi & many parts of India has much hotter climate in the October time. Nov to Jan will be much cooler in most of India.

My dad was born in India, several generations there, all part of the raj, making railways etc, he was orphaned and was sent to live in a monastery with his brothers at age 3, (around 1930) in the mountains of Rajasthan. (he loved it, no bad memories) Apparently you can go and get the t shirt, lol. Unfortunately, I haven't made it there, one day maybe. There is a Khan Market near Lodhi Garden and it's a good place to visit. Try butter chicken at Gulati's Pandara Road or you can try Butter Chicken at Daryaganj restaurant (not place as their is a place with same name in Delhi) who are the pioneers of Butter Chicken

Delhi , Jaipur, etc places are okay for once in a life time experience that's it , if you ask any Indian they will say other places. Like North East, or Super North , south India, Islands , mountain, beaches , Jungles , there's so many options for tourism which are not that busy like these cities.

I would recommend you to avoid dirty chaotic big cities and go to Indian Himalayas- Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim etc. Ladakh is the most beautiful place in India and one of the most beautiful place in the world. to reach Ladakh you can go by domestic flight from Delhi.
Just avoid Crowded Places in Delhi State like-Old Delhi, Chandni Chowk, Pahargunj area in Delhi City. One small correction Taj Mahal is not a original Islamic mosque or mausoleum the original structure is a Hindu palace and it is on the 7th floor of building that the artificial remains are placed which in a way undermines and degrades the original value and purpose of the Hindu building it was supposed to be a palace which has several floors beneath and many many rooms so it was never originally meant to be a graveyard for one single person and it was bought or I don't know was it threatened and taken away but it's not original Islamic or the newly constructed building in the mughal era

Don't compromise on food, drinking water and residence quality. Stay in reputable hotels. Don't stay in 10-dollar rooms and later complain about the security.
Don't eat uncooked foor nor drink unbottled water
Pack everything especially food, drinks, sweets and water you need for any journey before the journey. You can't find anything in railway stations and airports. Avoid too spicy foods.
Submit a photocopy of your passport when booking your train tickets at railway stations and airports for unlocking your foreign tourist quota.
Just relax and spend appropriate money wherever necessary instead of trying to save money all the time. That way you'll be more relaxed and enjoy more.
Not all people/places are good, not all people/places are bad. So better to do business with reputed people/places and avoid shady people/places.
