  • As a child, Sarah witnesses her wealthy mother's suicide. Later, as a young bride, she is haunted by her mother's voice and other strange manifestations. Is it her imagination, someone playing tricks on her, or her dead mother's spirit?

      Uh-oh, read a little too far in the comments, but at 10 minutes in I had already guessed. Every ingredient is the worst, this isn't so bad it's good, it's just unimaginative by-rote blah. Or maybe it's the banging on the harpsichord. It can be both! Thank you for nearly all of these movies, TVTERRORLAND! Goodnight, Sara. Goodnight, Mr. Hardy.

    As others here have said: What on earth was the reason for the silly ending? The film was an engrossing drama in its own right . It didn't need such a sinister epilogue.

    1989 TV movie about a psychological haunting. Don't expect ghosts and ghouls. It's a suspense not a horror movie.
    For a TV movie from the 80s, I thought it was pretty good. I don't understand why so many people are commenting about the ending. It's a "just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water but a great white shark attacks you" ending.

    • @christymun161
      @christymun161 7 років тому +6

      Tayler S. I completely agree! Very well put, too. These are the kind of endings we need every once in awhile. Why does the public always want predictable "happily ever after" endings with a wedding cake and champaign toasts? That would just take all the suspense (and reason) out of watching them in the first place; we would know the end was so perfect before we started, so why bother? I feel the same way about books. Authors get slammed for mixing things up (reminds me of the author character in "Misery" actually, which was written by Stephen King...when fans were unhappy with his previous book...he expressed his frustration with the feeling of needing to make his readers happy through the story. Ironically he actually gave his readers what they wanted). I *thought* this movie was typical and predictable (i.e. nothing to separate it from all the others.)...the end raised it up several notches. Took us out of our" Cinderella lives happily ever after" books we read our children good night with. Seems like most grown people actually prefer those whitewashed endings, too.....

    Great movie, Thank you TVTERRORLAND! Great quality and sound!.......Plus excellent actors, no pop-ups, or static. And an atypical ending that sets it apart from all the predictability in most of these movies (and I honestly thought this one *was* predictable, but it got me at the end). I loved the absence of "...and Cinderella lived happily ever after..." that's been the end of most books and movies since I was a tiny kid:) This was a really good time for TV movies....back when they didn't just throw together a lot at one time, with not much thought to acting skills. Now I've just subscribed to your channel, and am going to watch another one later.

      +Mari Adkins Mari Adkins, I was in the theater opening night back in the day and I can assure you; people were not laughing! People literally screamed and cried. Others literally threw up while others left the theater, not because the movie was rubbish but because they couldn't finish the movie; it was too much for them. But the MOMENT of the century was when linda blair threw up the Green matter ( pea soup) at Father Karros. The (what seemed like) the whole theater literally jumped, yelled and so many others screamed! Immediately afterwards almost all of the men (including me) started laughing and claping, we knew this was a moment in time to be remembered forever in cinema history. It was so brillant! and we knew it. But the women was so upset and infurated with the men! They were so damn mad they didn't know what to do! This was genuine fear in the theater so thick you could emotionally feel it. But at the end during the Exorcism scene twards the end, everyone was fearfully astonished! LInda Blair's head completely turning completely around absolutely blue everyone away! EVeryone left the theater emotionally spent. but everyone acknowledged everyone and we all agreed; this is the best horror movie ever seen at that time! I have not since encountered anything like this since. These rediculous slumber party movies; jason and the lake with naked chicks and the like; you know when a women walked off the benny hill set with her '38s' and saw her friends murdered she decides the first thing she should do is take a shower! ABSOLUTE RUBBISH! Now you say that this movie made you laught?! If there were anyone that would have said it was funny they would have been beaten up. Mr. Blatty is an absolute GENIUS! I'd submit to you The Exorcist is still the BEST horror movie ever made! Made you laugh!? Nonsense.

      +Mari Adkins I'm not disagree with you Mari Adkins. It was a time when movies were deep and cheap. There was a lot of camera work and dummies in the Exorcist but brillant is still brillant. The Haunting of Sarah Hardy is barley interesting. Some perverts out there would argue it needed a 'shower scene. I was point out that what some people find scary is to me, barely interesting.

    I don’t think I’ve commented here before, but while the Hardy house was filmed at the Pittock Mansion, the psychiatrist office and the housekeeper’s apartment were from a house in Lake Oswego. How do I know? Well, the psychiatrist was practicing out of my dad’s office and the housekeeper blackmailed from my family kitchen. There’s even a point at which you can see my dad’s greeting card to my mom in the background. It was fun to meet Sela Ward when I was very young and she babysat my brother so mom could take the other kids to school.
