One of the highlights of my 30 career as Takent Buyer/ Promoter was playing Carl Perkins in my 1st job. He put on a great show with the same energy as seen here.
The amount of talent in this clip is staggering. You have 2 Beatles, 2 members of the Stray Cats, Clapton, Roseann Cash and the legendary Carl Perkins the father of rockabilly. WOW!!
I think the guy to the right of George is Dave Edmunds. Another fan of Perkins and a lover of rockabilly.
Dont forget Dave Edmunds
Dave Edmunds as well
Not to forget Dave Edmunds
Lord it must have been a great day to be alive...
George idolized and emulated Perkins, this had to be a dream come true for him to play with Perkins on stage. His smile was beaming.
You know you're a legend when George Harrison and Eric Clapton look at you star struck. Carl Perkins is the entertainment to entertainers
This crowd would play all night for nothin' but the love of the "sport," an' the thrill of "pickin' together."
Pay attention, youngsters.
The Beatles loved Elvis Presley too
I've never seen George Harrison smile so much and look at Carl Perkins like a school kid!! That was a treat!!
Clapton's looking at Carl is also full of respect and admiration. Amazing footage.
I LOVE love love George Harrison's excitement to be on stage with Carl Perkins it is so so so much fun to watch!!!TRULY a concert filled with respect for the great Carl Perkins
@@slightlycrafty Carl's style represents George's "first love" with guitar playing. Carl Perkins was to George's generation as George and Clapton are to me.
it is
I think so too, because he was certainly a fan of carl, because he did not know that he will be a Beatle.
George played those notes to "That's Alright", almost verbatim to the way Scotty played it. This performance proves that George was a serious student of Scotty and Carl both. I never get tired of watching this.

George Harrison was such an underrated guitar player! May his soul be blessed for eternity!
Who underrated him?
Not me!
Why do people think they're being ' hip and cool' when they say..... 'so and so (insert name of extremely famous and talented musician) is underrated?

Younger generations don't understand what a great guitarist and song writer Carl Perkins was. If you are a learning guitarist, you must learn about Carl Perkins.
King of Rockabilly...Native Tennessean.
Carl was a stud

Eric was the smoothest guitarist in this performance lets be honest.

BigBadBosco George was definitely having the time of his life! I didn't know Carl Perkins was his idol, but you could sure tell he was looking up to him here!!

Just Fantastic!!!!!!😎
Super classy of George when Carl said he couldn't remember the lyrics, he started the song and jogged Carl's memory. You can tell he was a true fan, knowing all the words and licks.
My favorite of the whole clip!! I bought the live at the bbc album when it came out and wore out several copies since 😅 but Glad All Over was such a favorite so to see that moment here..soooo sweet 💛 happy George had that moment with his idol
Brilliant
Carl Perkins had an incredible stage presence. What a talent.
I'm still listening in 2024
George Harrison was looking at Carl Perkins like " wow , I am on stage playing with Carl Perkins . hot dam. George's smile could light up the universe
Paul McCartney said of Carl Perkins “ If there were no Carl Perkins , there would have been no Beatles “
George Harrison radiates beauty. What a lovely man.
I spent time at Reelfoot Lake in Lake County.Carl 's hometown.
'A lovely man' is exactly how McCartney described him & he certainly was. A true gentleman in every sense of the word, I doubt he spoke ill of anyone throughout his whole life. RIP, Gentleman George Harrison.
Looks better clean shaven. How Ringo can sit near him shows what a forgiving guy Ringo has been. I can not stand the thought of what he did to Ringo. Neither could crude John, appalled when he heard about it.

Nice to see 14 year old George having a good time.
Anytime George takes a high harmony it’s a treat.
You can feel by george"s eyes that he's totally in so much joy playing on stage with his teacher. Carl is George's biggest influence even his playing style is so "Carl"
As incredible as the Beatles were, they were just extending the great music of their youth like Carl's in new directions. Can never be bettered.
Carl Perkins one of the greats, what he could do with that guitar. Loved his music.
No wonder Tom Petty loved Carl Perkins!
But he never taught him to read music.😂
Imagine what it must have been when George and the Beatles first met their hero (in 1964 ?)...they were on a rollercoaster ride but must have been in awe of this guy who had in effect "gone nowhere" after the initial success. 5 years back they were poor kids in Liverpool scrambling to get their hands on his records !
Those cats can ROLL! Look at how all those big name Stars gaze at Carl, like a god! My dad turned me onto Carl Perkins in 1986 at the age of 10, and it’s been nonstop ever since!

Nobody is having more fun than George Harrison! Love it.
More than Clapton. That scowl'd curdle milk.
Carl was George's idle. I would feel the same way if I got a chance to play with Jimmy Page.
George is enjoying the hell out of himself
Amazing, especially considering that the show was his first performance in about ten years and he was terrified.
during the Beatles first tour of Scotland, in 1960, Harrison used the pseudonym "Carl Harrison", in reference to Carl Perkins
This is great! George is so in his element here and his playing is spot on!! 👌

Agreed --Carl missed out on the fame that elvis had ...
At 3.51 George looks back at Ringo, both with the biggest smiles. How touching!
I literally cried my eyes out watching this because there were no more worlds to conquer. This is perfect. Lot’s going on. First, George Harrison’s eyes are connected with those of Carl Perkins as if to ask “Father, did I do well?” as he plays lead guitar. Eric Clapton, perhaps the greatest at his craft of all time, simply admiring Perkins. Rosanne Cash, daughter of Johnny, singing background. Rings Star on the tambourine. Love this!
@Greg Bromberg Clapton as usual has nothing much to say, tinny Strat sound and he doesn't look like he's having any fun. Totally over-rated.
@Frank Lopez We all have our opinions.🤷
Saw Eric Clapton having a shit between two parked cars in Eccles once. Off his nut on booze and drugs, there was a marijuana needle on the ground beside him
Agree that clapton is overated, and defintely not the best of all time, hendrix, beck , gilmore just 3 who were better for a start, clapton puts to much thought into his playing sometimes overplaying
Watch "Mean Woman Blues" with Clapton and Carl Perkins, Eric looked and played enthusiastic with Carl Perkins and Carl was amazed with Eric's performance. I understand the flaws of 70's and 80's Eric Clapton but also realize he was probably drunk here and he didn't get totally clean and sober until November of 1987. Like Stevie Ray Vaughan after he got sober, he and Clapton were at their peak after they got clean and sober!! In short, Clapton is god!!!
Harrison just killed it here, both on guitar and vocally. RIP George and Carl

What George did with The Beatles was only the beginning. He was forever in the shadows of the Lennon/McCartney juggernought of Lennon/McCartney . . .
BUT OH BOY . . . just look what he did post The Beatles.
I remember Elvis referring to the song "Something" as "the greatest love song ever written, without actually saying "I love you"

Carl Perkins was one hell of a talent, and never got the acclaim that he should have, but he was highly respected by other musicians. Superb.
Carl was on his way to stardom when he had a aweful wreck that killed his brother and changed his life forever.Elvis recorded/stole blue suede shoes while he was laid up in the hospital recovering from that wreck. His career never recovered the momentum it had prior to it.The rest they say is history.

But he thought with Carl he had sumthin which he did. Carl could sing, play and write his own songs. Elvis to be honest sang and was the most charismatic act on the planet. Still Sam thought he could get behind Carl. Nuthin was gonna replace the King but Carl was going to be a huge star too. Then the wreck. Carl became an alky. The crowd yelled for Carl Perkins when Elvis pranced onto the stage.
This is joy undiluted. The power of music. Even the sometimes glum Clapton is energized. And George Harrison (as others have already said) looks like a teenager, the years stripped away with his delight in the music and his love for the great Carl Perkins (himself a modest man of staggering talent).
