Thank you for this Melissa. I'm 53 and in 2009 I was diagnosed with complex breast cancer. By the end of 2009 I could barely put one foot in front of the other - a flight of stairs was a project and my body was ravaged from the chemo. 2010 was about surviving the after effects of chemo and surgery. 2011, I decided if I wasn't going to die then I was going to try and bring my body back. When I was a teen I was a competitive figure skater but then took a 25 year exercise 'break' so when I got the cancer diagnosis I was a 45 year old, out of shape smoker. (The smoking stopped at diagnosis). I started with one minute a day - a stretch. Some days even that had to get cut back to 30 seconds. Took almost a year to be able to go up a flight of stairs without hauling myself up with my arms. Then I bought an elliptical and started with 3 minutes on easy. I worked my way up to 40 minutes on interval programs. In fall of 2015 I bought a resistance weight machine and added that to the workout. My weight machine is minimum 10 pounds so it took a long time to be able to move much of any of the weight but I persisted. I little tug every day. Now, depending on the exercise, I use anywhere between 10 to 40 pounds. Summer of 2015 I tried cycling. At first I could barely make half a mile. Little by little I worked my way up. This summer I rode almost daily and got myself up to 10 miles a day. I live in the Great White North (lol - Canada) so bicycling season has pretty much ended. Yesterday my stationary bike arrived so now my home gym has the elliptical, the weight machine and a stationary bike. My workout is now about an hour to an hour and half a day. A combination of cycling, weights and the elliptical. It's taken me 6 years to get this far but I know what it's like to be close to physically helpless and I want to avoid that as long as I can. I have been meaning to incorporate exercises like yours because I feel there is no flexibility exercises in my routine. Thanks for the inspiration! You are beautiful inside and out Melissa!
I am literally speechless. Excuse my language, but I admire the hell out of you! Wow, what an inspiring story. Would it be okay if I shared it in the downbar above so everyone could see it? It's a post everyone should read. You are one amazing lady. Thank you so much for this. Love, Melissa
***** Thank you Melissa! By all means, please share if you think it might help someone. I really believe we can all reach our goals, For me, I had to break my fitness goal into small segments to get somewhere. Even at the start when my one minute goal was not achievable, at least I did 30 seconds - better than not doing 30 seconds! Take care ~ Jennifer
You have discovered the fountain of youth, that is for sure. I have also seen many northern European women who look fantastic too. Good for you! You are a role model for being healthy and youthful at any age.
I truly believe that we just need to move...hope I'm not wrong!!!!! Something that I do when I can't get outside to walk - Leslie Sansone has some in house walking tapes (also on youtube) where you can just pretty much walk in place. My greatest fear now is that a small fall can put me down for a long long time..Jim wants us to parasail and I refuse only because I don't want to hit the water or the boat wrong when landing...otherwise I would be all over it !!!!! love you - patti 🎀
Patti you are the third person to mention Leslie. I really think she is going to be right up my alley. I am with you and feel that walking is going to be the key to health for the rest of our lives. I LOVE it that Jim want to parasail!!! Thank you and much love, Melissa
I know what you mean about the resistance to cardio work. A couple of years ago I bought a treadmill and just told myself that if I could do at least 10 minutes a day at least 5 days a week that I could accept that. That has made all the difference! And usually I am able to do more. But psychologically, only committing to 10 minutes makes me do it!
I really like this idea a lot. I think the best thing for me would be to get one for the office. Our house is stuffed to the gills and we don't really have room for one here, but I really think I could commit to doing it at the office. Thank you so much for the idea! Much love Melissa
Also, I try to commit to the same time each day and that really helps it to become habit. And then I don't have to think about it. Somehow this really helps.
Midlife Wild I did a similar thing but I committed to fifteen minutes, but once I'm on the treadmill I usually did more! And now I am doing more than that generally and in much better shape, stronger, lower blood pressure, better blood work. It has been great!
Dear Melissa, you are so inspiring! I am in my 40s and watching you gives me hope that you can still be gorgeous as you age....You are beautiful and look at least 20 years younger!
You look fabulous!!!! I've always heard disuse makes your body age faster. There's an elderly man in my neighborhood (he's about 80) that jogs 3 miles everyday. Rain or shine. That means no excuses for me. By the way, I really love your eye look today!!!! Love and hugs!!!!
I have to agree. My husband has been in the Army for 26 years and PT is an every day occurrence. He looks much younger than a lot of civilian guys his age.
Jenn R wow! That man is definitely on track with staying healthy for as looooong as he possibly can! What an inspiration he is. Truly. And you're right......what's my excuse then??😕. I cannot jog/run bc of my very bad/painful knees (waaaaaaay too many years of daily 80's aerobics without the proper support in shoes....ouch!), so that's out.....but there are hundreds of other things that I know I CAN do.....but just don't🙄. Gotta get moving!! Maybe I'll just start with walking..... Thanks for the inspirational info and many healthy blessings to you! Kim💜
Hi my dear Melissa, I do agree with you about exercise,, and yoga , lifting weights is great for us, helps to strengthen our bones and firm our arms and legs, you are very flexible , that means you have been doing yoga for sometime and that is great , it prevents injury, I have been exercising for 32 years and everyday I say to myself, I will better and healthier than yesterday , as for your fitness , you can just do for 12 minutes a day of tabata where u do high intensity for 20 second, rest for 10 seconds and continue, but whatever it is , you look great and we are grateful each day that we can still exercise and not let our age stop us from doing what is good for us and thank you so much for showing and sharing your exercise regime with us, Much love, Bee 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💗
Thanks so much, Bee. You look amazing and take such good care of yourself. And I agree, it is so important to exercise and not let our age stop us from doing what is good for us. Thank you so very much! Love, Melissa
Fifty reps, I'm impressed! I find balance work is really important, so you don't fall and break a bone. I won't go to a gym either. I work out to You Tube videos. There are literally thousands of all kinds of workout videos. My favorite is Jessica Smith. She has a large variety, walking, cardio, strength, yoga, Pilates, Barre, kickboxing and stretching. She has short walking videos that you can do in a small space. She also has DVDs. Her level of intensity is perfect for our age, and she has such a positive personality. She gives great form pointers too. I walk my dogs five days a week, and do a 30 minute workout six days a week. I alternate cardio and strength. It really helps with stress. I have 3, 5, 8 and 10 pound weights and keep them under my bed. I post on fitness check ins to keep me accountable, and have made some nice friends online. Thanks for talking about exercise, as you can see it's a favorite subject of mine lol.
Hey Sherry. I really need to work on my balance. I think it's going to be more important the older I get, too. I have never heard of Jessica Smith. I like the sound of the things she does, especially if it can be done in small spaces and the intensity is somewhat milder. Oh you are doing so well. I wish you lived next door to me so you could make me come walk with you! I have never heard of fitness check either. So this is something you would recommend to keep you motivated? Thank you for all your ideas. I'm anxious to get started. Right now I have a vein in my leg I have to see to on Monday and have to keep it elevated, but then I hope to be able to really get up and move. Thanks so much! Love, Melissa
I have to credit my dogs for keeping me accountable, lol. Yes, all of Jessica's workouts can be done in a small space. I find that fitness check-ins help me. I check-in on a forum called Video Fitness, which has multiple check-ins to choose from, but there are also FB Groups. You can also have a local check-in buddy, where you and a friend keep each other accountable. Another popular channel is Cassey Ho's Blogilates. She has short workouts that you can do in a small space. I hope your doctor visit goes well, and your leg is nothing serious.
Thanks for the update! Whatever you're doing it's working for you! We do have to keep everything strong and flexible. I'll be so glad to add to my walking distance once the weather is cooler - if that ever happens! LOL! I enjoy doing yoga and barre exercises at home. I follow several instructors on UA-cam. It's so much fun! xoxo!!!
aw, thanks so much, Laura. I will add walking too, but not in this heat. Oh the yoga and the barre are supposed to be wonderful!!! That's terrific. Much love, Melissa
That is so kind of you to say!!! I was kind of embarrassed doing these, and it's one reason I did the split screen so less of me would show! lol. Many thanks, Melissa
Melissa, you are an inspiration to many. You also have a beautiful spirit. I see that our Lord has given you many difficult trials and many blessings. You know a nun who also suffered in life said suffering is a blessing and a gift. It's a way to give much back to God. She also said truly you will be rewarded. I could see why she's a nun a I'm not.lol. ☺️I too have been through many trials. It seems more bad than good. But without God there is no hope. I am still working through the suffering part with God. It's a process that we all must go through. I too am working through my excercise no matter how difficult it is. I thank you for sharing your private challenges. I think it helps people that are and has been through many difficulties. Keep your faith Melissa and I will keep you in my prayers. Some day we will have the answer.
Thank you so much, Charlie. I think motivation is the hardest thing to acquire, and then following through is the next one. Like you, I really get bored with certain things. Thank you! Much love, Melissa
You look great and are in fantastic shape! I enjoyed seeing what exercises you do. I have both types of those weights as well and like you enjoying working out at home. You have a great routine! Love you! xoxo
Hi Melissa! Wonderful video! Thank you for sharing. I was such an active person until I got just too sick to exercise. Fortunately, I was able to push myself, even though sometimes I shouldn't have, well into my early 40's (I'm 48, now). As I'm on the uphill climb to getting better, I'm seeing all sorts of specialists to help me get my life back....one of them is a Doctor of Kinesiology who's taught me so much about the musculoskeletal system and how interconnected our muscles and bones are with our overall health. Based on what I've learned from her and all the research I've done since I started seeing her, Yoga is the only exercise I'll be doing on my own. This is coming from a born and bred Southern Baptist Texas girl! LOL!! By the way, my Neurosurgon referred me to her. She happens to work on several Dallas Cowboys players during the offseason, as well. She knows her stuff. So, I really hope y'all will go for it! I can't wait until I'm able.... MUCH love to you! ❤️ xoxo
Lisette, I am so very sorry to hear of your health challenges. It breaks my heart for you. I can't tell you how I admire how you are taking charge of your body and health. It's so inspiring. And it sounds like your kinesiology specialist is wonderful. I hope and pray that you will soon have all this behind you. You are such a special woman. Much love and luck, Melissa
Dear sweet Melissa, thank you thank you for this.. I know I requested it. You are truly amazingly flexible and limber! Your back bend (the wheel in yoga) is unbelievable!! I'm like you - I prefer exercising at home, but I do love the connection and energy in a yoga class. You are a lucky woman to have a husband who will do it with you. I've tried to get my husband to do it with me at home, not very successful yet. I especially related to all your reasons for working out - you are the poster child for aging beautifully and gracefully in all aspects - body, mind, and spirit ♥ With gratitude XOXO Debb
aw, thank you so very much, Debb!! Oh it is called the Wheel isn't it? I had forgotten about that. Doug hasn't done yoga with me yet, so we shall see. I'm not holding my breath. lol. Oh thank you so very much! You are so sweet. Much love, Melissa
Good morning, my beautiful friend. Thank you so much for sharing your daily workout with us. It sure has worked well for you!! I don't like going to the gym either. In fact, I even walk at home while watching Leslie Sansome videos. Many blessings, prayers, and much love....MaryEllen
Hey ME. Someone just mentioned her and I'm going to give it a try. I think it would be so good for my heart and lungs. I get so embarrassed at the gym. Thank you and love you dearly! Melissa
Melissa, you are in great shape. You are very flexible. I will turn 50 in less than two years and my goal is to get into shape and take care of my body. Thank you for being an inspiration. I love your channel and watching you, thank you. xo
Thanks Melissa...very simple...very doable...and very effective! You're right...we need to keep flexible all through life but most importantly as we age! Nice routine!💖
I really dislike exercising as in floor but saying that - I admire you for it and is definitely paying off for you. I do go to an aquarobics class once a week - I have a new knee and find the water aids me a lot - great video as usual 😘
I truly think everyone needs to find the things that work for them - whether at home alone or with a group. I think I would like the aquarobics. Although I would probably be embarrassed at how little I could swim without getting out of breath. We've joined the Y and I have access to it. It's just getting up the courage!!! Much love, Melissa
Fair play to you Melissa.Im confined to bed most days.I understand your logic around exercise.Im 53 and cant exercise as it increases pain levels.I try to move around when im a little better, however its a catch 22 situation.Good luck to you both.Im sure Ollie will welcome the walks in the cooler weather.subbie from Ireland.
Oh Jane, this just breaks my heart. It is a Catch 22 isn't it? Moving around increases pain, but feeling like you need to keep moving. I just hate this for you so much. I wish you the best, my friend. Love, Melissa
So good to see you back.. if only I could get into the positions you do!!! You look amazing... I've had multiple spinal surgeries so I do what I can, which is mainly walking and I am happy to be able to do that!! I really enjoy all your videos, Melissa, and have learned so much from you!! Thanks so much for all you share! Sue
Thank you so much, Sue. Oh no!! I'm so sorry you've had so much trouble with your spine. I really need to start walking. I'm so darn lazy but that has to change. Than you so much! Love, Melissa
I know this is an older video but I wanted to mention a young lady on UA-cam who puts out great exercise videos. her name is Tracy Campoli. I especially like her standing abs videos. I've been following her routines a few years now and find it really tightens my core. I've just started watching you and find you so lovely and delightful. blessings!
Thanks for sharing your routine with us again, Melissa! I had watched your original one and am impressed with your commitment of sticking to your fitness routine. Like Midlife Wild, I have a treadmill that I use when the weather isn't suitable for my twice daily walks with my dogs. I've trained both of them to go on the treadmill with me, which gives me double the amount of time. I bet your Oliver would enjoy it as much as my Oliver does! Thanks for the motivation. I haven't done my exercises since I retired a couple of years ago. Maybe it's time I started again. Have a wonderful week. Nice to see you back. Take care, Lorna
Thank you more than I can say, Lorna. Oh that is so cute that your dogs do it with you!! I really need to start walking. I always think I'm too busy, but other women are, too and they seem to accomplish it. You are so sweet and I really appreciate you. Love, Melissa
Love the video! Weights are so important as we age, for so many reasons. I also need to incorporate more cardio into my life. But I do love my weights, and I also prefer to work out at home. :-)
Joan we have a lot in common with our exercise routines. We probably do need to incorporate more cardio. It's hard to get started. Thank you and much love, Melissa
Great advise...come join me at the gym at 5:30 am lol! If I don't go then it doesn't happen :-). When my kids were young I used to do all my exercising at home but for me I found I needed the "push" from watching other people work out. Good for you for being so disciplined at home Melissa! 👍😉💓
Oh Trish, if I had any kind of get up and go, I would work out early like you do. I can't tell you how much I admire your work ethic. You inspire me!!! Many thanks, Melissa
Melissa really enjoyed this!! I also do these sort of exercises and a lot of stretches. With the type of arthritis I have it makes the spine and the rib cage stiff so I have to keep all that moving and I'm always trying to find back exercises. So you gave me a few different things to try!! So thanks😀
I think this is a wonderful routine. Some exercise is better than none. Love working at home because you can do your thing in private and avoid the hassles of a gym. Thanks for sharing. Have a fabulous week. Big HUGS! xoxo Sharon
Thanks so much, Sharon. I'm just not going to the gym. I know myself too well. I just won't do it. Thank you my lovely! You are the best. Love, Melissa
Wow Melissa, that backbend! My dog Mich is my motivator for walking. We have gone on long walks everyday since she was a pup and with my dog before her. Ask your Dr about an inhaler. I've recently had to do that and it helps me. I use as a pre workout preventative. Love, Kelly💗
Hey Kelly, I am so glad Mitch and you are taking walks together. That is wonderful. I do use a daily inhaler. It does help with the breathing so much. Much love sweetheart! Melissa
Thank you Melissa. I do go to the gym and some days I try and find every excuse I can not to go. I feel 💯 better going!! The only cardio I do is speed walk for about 3 miles then I do my strengthening exercises. I hope I can keep my mind set to keep this up because at 55 I need to be in the best heath I can. Loved you video ❤️ keep it up you're beautiful inside and out!
It is so hard to push yourself to go sometimes, isn't it? I'm so impressed that you can walk three miles!! And at a quick pace, too! I really do like to walk outside when the weather is cool. Thank you so much! You are amazing. Love, Melissa
Thanks for the update. I need to get back in the routine, this helped motivate me. I have a very physical job, so lately when I get home I just want to sit, which is not good either. Have a good week😘
Thanks so much, Julie. It's so hard to get into a routine isn't it? It's why I haven't been doing walking or other cardio work. And it's hard to find the time. Thank you and much love, Melissa
I'm so impressed with you Melissa! And totally inspired, there are so many people that don't bother with any exercise at all and I know that's an easy trap to fall into but you have the most fantastic approach to your life and your body. You have an incredible body so clearly these exercises work wonders! Thank you so much for sharing these, I am going to be adding a few of these to my own exercise routine. Have a wonderful week. With love and hugs from an autumnal England xxxxx
Oh thank you Cindy. Believe me, I should be doing a whole lot more. lol. You are so kind!! I can't thank you enough for such a sweet comment. Much love and wish I was in England with you! Love, Melissa
Melissa I have a Nordictrack ski machine in our home and it is a very effective low impact cardio workout. I do 20 minutes 4-5 times a week and it is wonderful. I would highly recommend.
As impressed as I've been by so much about you this ranks #1. I have recently lost 20 lbs and decided to do your exercises today. It was a great workout and I didn't even use leg weights. I also did not have the strength to do a full back bend but I modified it and held for 50 seconds. You are such an inspiration to me and my sisters. They are the ones who told me about your channel because you remind us so much of our Mother who passed away 5 years ago. I ordered the Conair jumbo rollers and do the roll up just like you and I love it. Even my husband noticed my hair was different and loved it. Ms Goldgirl did a tutorial recently in the style of Sophie from ladies of London and when I watched hers I went to comment that she should watch yours and at least 5 other people had already mentioned YoUR tutorial to her as well. 👍❤️😀
Your doing a great job with your exercise. Every time I've tried to exercise from when I was young, I injured myself. I just have bad joints. I can't count the amount of sprains to my back, knees & ankles. A doctor told my cousin that bad knees were hereditary on my Mothers side. We all have bad knees. I'm going to an orthopedic doctor next week. Hopefully I can get some help. I want to do something but am terrified of making things worse. I was never flexible, I tried to be but the joints won't go there. Love you, Lucy
So glad you did this video! I do many of the same at-home exercises and stretches (including the back bend) that you do. Have done them for years also. Three years ago I got a Fitbit and added walking 10,000 steps each day. At 56, I am more flexible than most of our friends and even our grown kids. BTW - You look amazing Melissa!
Oh Janet, that is so amazing!!! I just love this. And you have inspired me. I have a fitbit and you would be so sad to see how little I walk. I'm really going to try to up my steps even if I just walk around the house. You have inspired me so much. Thank you and much love, Melissa
Thank you for your inspiration Malissa:) I do find moving is so important! I too use a lot of the same exercises you did in this video. I still use my ab roller to keep those mussels tight without putting any pressure on my spine. I'm 55 years young and thank God it still seems to be helping! Love & Godbless💝
I wish so bad, my mom had taken care of herself like you do Meilissa. You are so beautiful and soft spirited:) My mom died 2 yrs ago and I miss her like crazy:(...She died of VERY poor health and never fought to get better. I love watching you. You encourage me and I know this may sound weird but I look up to you in a way:) God bless you! I hope this finds you. Emily J
Oh Emily, my heart is breaking for you. Your mother was a wonderful mother because she raised such a wonderful woman in you. You are her biggest accomplishment and I guarantee her most important one. I am so sorry for your loss and so very touched at your sweet and kind comment. I know you were such a blessing to her. Thank you and I send you many many blessings. And most of all I send you much love. Love to you, Emily. And thank you. Melissa
Very impressive exercise video..tfs. You are very inspiring and I'm motivated to make some changes. I've lost 13lbs and hope to reach my goal bythe end of the year. I had meniscus surgery and its taking me a while to be back on track. You look fantastic . You're such an amazing woman. Have a blessed week
Thank you so very much, Mary!! Oh well done! I know you are so proud of yourself. I'm so sorry about your knee! I know that must be so painful. Good luck and you are terrific! Much love Melissa
I love this! It's so inspiring! I often forget that exercise doesn't need to be complicated or a huge time commitment. I used to love doing leg lifts and ab work while watching TV. I even got into hula hooping which is so good for your abs! You have inspired me to do it again. Thank you.
I appreciate it so much Marisa. I agree that it doesn't have to be complicated. If it was, I just wouldn't do it. And watching tv doesn't even feel like you're doing exercises. It passes fast Many thanks! Melissa
Thank you Melissa for showing us what execises you do. I'm so unmotivated when it comes to exercising at home. I take yoga classes 3 times a week. I feel it's the thing I'll do for the rest of my life, with some modifications when I'm 83 lol. Like you, I know I need some cardio. I had a treadmill stress test at the cardiologist and was sooo out of breath.
aw, thanks so much, Karen. How wonderful that you do Yoga. I really think it's so good for us. I don't think I could last on a treadmill for a minute. I'm in such bad shape. lol. Thanks and lots of love, Melissa
I wrote them down and plan on trying it. Something different. I do walk and do weights. I hate going to the gym also. Funny that you had your first child at 21. I did too. She just turned 42 Sunday. Have a great week. Thanks for sharing.
That is so kind, Connie. Oh you are doing so well with walking and weights! You look absolutely fantastic! I cannot believe you have a child that age! Than you and much love, Melissa
You are so amazing with all you do that I'm embarrassed for you to see the piddling little amount of exercise I do! But like I say, you soar for both of us! Love you!
Hi Melissa nice to see you here, yes walk is a very good exercise my husband had asthma, five years ago we adopted two dogs since then we walk twice a day everyday so my husband never had problem with asthma again, yoga is also very good. xoxo
I go to the gym 3 days a week. If I don't I won't exercise. My gym is small but effective. I have ms and I struggle to stay mobile. I do not want to sit in a wheelchair if I can help it. I deal with so much pain but after I leave there I always hurt less. I can't make friends realize how important exercise is. I am going to try your routine minus the leg weights for now may add later. loved the video this is so important. We have to move as we get older. Melissa you inspire!!!
That is so wonderful that you are so disciplined. I really admire that so much. And your determination in the face of you illness is so inspiring. I can't tell you how much I admire you. Thank you so much for sharing. Love, Melissa
Melissa55 I try for my autistic son who needs care. I've said Lord you know I hate exercise why'd I get this blasted disease lol. You are an inspiration to me Melissa. I'm always happy to see you've posted a new video!!!
Funny how life brings things around if we're paying attention -- I've been planning to get an exercise plan going this week & this pops up to confirm it! I love when you said that you want your body to be able to do what your mind wants it to... AMEN SISTER!! I hurt my spine 7 years ago and I'm been scared to move ever since. But if you don't use it... you lose it! I've got a lot of work to do and thank you for this inspiration Melissa! Hugs ~Susanne xoxo
Oh Susanne, that's horrible!! I didn't know you had hurt your spine. I am so sorry. I don't blame you for being extra cautious. Just please be careful!! Love to you, Melissa
Good Morning Melissa. Thanks for sharing this again. I try to do my simple routine at least 5 days a week and a lot or similar to yours. The arms and legs especially. I also need to get some cardio worked into my routine. Not sure what program I will use for that yet. When I lived further in the country I had a 2 mile road I could walk everyday. Since I moved onto a highway I haven't walked as much. Hope you have a wonderful weekend. Love, Christine
Good morning, Missy! It was so good to see you this morning! I love the exercises you do. I do almost the very same ones, and I count to 50 for all of them too! The only one I don't do it the back lift because I've NEVER been able to do that one! My back is so iffy!! And always has been. I also don't do the knee lift and I will add that one. I NEVER want knee replacement! Or hip! I'll keep doing mine forever. I've been doing these since I was in Jr. High School! I also do the elliptical on my porch every morning, for about 10 minutes, not too long. Just enough to get my breath going. Anyhow, I love seeing your workout! It is so inspiring! Have a lovely day! Love and hugs, Jeanie xxoo
It's so interesting that we do the same exercises!!! Oh you might shouldn't do the backbend if you have back problems. That's wonderful that you do the elliptical. That is so good for you. Thank you and love you lots! Missy!
Good Morning Melissa, it is such a coincidence that you did this video. I have been wanting to buy some weights and didn't think of the wrap around weights so you gave me a great idea!
Hi Melissa. Thank you so much for sharing this with us. These are wonderful exercises and they keep you in great shape! You look like a ballet dancer! So beautiful! I am inspired to get out my weights and get working out! Have a wonderful day, xoxo Daphne.💞
aw, thank so much, Daphne. I wish I could have been a dancer. I wanted to be a Rockette who kicked up high. lolol Thank you so very much! Love, Melissa
Love this video. I don't like going to the gym, but I do walk quite a bit at home. You showed some great exercises that I am going to start doing. I would love to be independent as long as I can. I already have back problems, neck issues and my knees are really starting to bother me. Damn, I will never make it lol.. So I had better get started. Thanks for sharing this video, it was very informative for me.. Love you lady ! !
aw thank you so very much, Lori!!! You are doing to well walking at home. I have got to get started. Thank you so much for your kind comment. Love, Melissa
Thank you for sharing, I have been doing several Denise Austin DVD workouts this summer and it is a bit like what you do, one has a ball and it helps alot to tone. I also love to walk. As I age I feel myself getting lazy and stiff if I don't move. Your so pretty and inspiring!
You are doing so well! I need to follow your example. I think I will like walking more when it cools off here. And I agree the older I get, the easier it is to become stiff and lazy. Thank you so much! Love, Melissa
An alternate tummy exercise would be to lie flat on the floor with your hands resting under your butt...lifting both legs slowly with the ankle weights on. It works for me and I don't use ankle weights. I don't think I would want to age having to depend on someone else for help...that is why exercise is so important. Hitting the gym tomorrow morning at 5:00am. Getting back to taking better care of me!!! Great video it was insightful and inspiring!!! Thank you, Shelly😈💋
That is a really good hint, Shelly. And I would think it would be good for our spines, too. I feel the same way of not wanting to depend on others for help. I really want to stay independent as much as possible when I get older. Thank you so much for your kind words. Love, Melissa
I adore the interior and vintage plantation style look of your bedroom. Oh dear just hope using the word plantation hasn't offended anyone. I am mixed race living in the UK so not familiar with PC in the US.
Very good Melissa! That's alot more then I do...I do none.. :( But...that's a big BUT, I don't sit down much during the day if any. I'm always cleaning, walking about the house tending to the animals, etc. I'm up and about till I lay down for bed. Every morning I wake up feeling like I ran the Marathon. I'm a perfectionist so I'm told anyway... everything has to be just so, and it drives my husband crazy! Well, it use to, he is use to it now. I've decided though after watching this video, I'm going to do the same type of exercises that you do. Maybe I will feel better when I wake up in the mornings. I'm going to procrastinate and start tomorrow. But on going to do it!!! I've put this off far too long..So thanks Melissa, this is just what I needed to see to get me in the right direction!! This may just help what ale's me at the moment. I think I will add some yoga at the end, or I wonder, should I do it first?? Don't know. Anyway, I will let ya know how it's going I'm a few weeks..:)
You probably get a lot more exercise than you realize. In fact, I know you do. You are a busy woman! I really don't think you can go wrong with Yoga. I know women of all ages who do it and get a lot of benefit from it. In fact, my old Yoga class, I was the youngest one. Some of the women were in their 80's and really did a terrific job. Plus they really looked forward to it. So if you decide to do Yoga, I hope you like it. You could probably try it from a UA-cam vide. Much love, Melissa
Of course you look awesome...incorporating the planks is a great idea it well help build your inner core.. which is also very important to your over all well being...but you all ready know that.... I take Pilates once a week and do some planks... I am up to one minute per plank now.... Anyway ...I believe that moving / exercise is a must when you are older...and even when you are young..... Soooo you go girl ... LOL.... Hugs ..... Shirlene
Melissa.....you mention that you have (or know of) a great yoga video. I don't think I'm quite ready to put on a yoga display for the world yet....as in participating in an actual CLASS! (Scary for me to even think about!). However, I think I'd like (or rather, NEED) to try doing some yoga in the privacy of my own home. I get it when you say you're not motivated to get to the gym to do a workout. I'm the same way. Guilty! Can't tell you how many gym memberships I've let slide.... Oh dear. Anyway, if you do have a yoga video recommendation....thank you!! You are so beautiful and QUITE the inspiration. May be just what I need right now. Much love and many blessings to you.....
I loved seeing your workout Melissa. I really don't like the gym atmosphere. I do most of my exercise at home. I watch UA-cam videos while I walk on the treadmill. Yoga is wonderful and I use to take classes...I miss those classes. I am planning on joining an exercise studio in my area. Mostly women go there and it is designed like a dance studio. I plan on taking mostly Zumba classes there. I also believe weights are so important. You look amazing so everything you are doing is working. You did an awesome bridge! Love you lots...Laura
Melissa Do you think you could do a supplement video if you take any. I would really appreciate it. Thank you for your videos I enjoy watching you and I enjoy the advice. I am over 70, but still plugging along.
This was great Melissa thank you!! You are so right at our age we need to exercise to be stronger. I need to start again ever since I got back from vacation can't seem to start! But this video motivated me :)) bless you Melissa
Hello name twin! I do it five nights a week. Oh that program sounds really good and I like it doesn't take a lot of time. Thanks for the heads up! Love Melissa
I remember seeing your original video and you called these your 'old lady' exercises. Nothing old about you. I sure as heck can't do a back bend. I've done yoga before and enjoyed it. Just haven't been able to fit it in my schedule anymore. I really want to do it again. Looking great! xoxo, Swoozie
Thanks so much, Swoozie. You are the one that is amazing. I know you work out a lot and you have a beautiful figure to show for it. I have got to start stepping up my game. Thank you and love to you, Melissa
Thanks so much for sharing these Melissa. You always look so beautiful and I just love your southern accent. I try to keep my body strong as well and actually bought a hula hoop a while back for some light cardio! It took me a while to remember how to keep it going, lol, but it's a fun way to stay in shape. Take care❤️-Ruthie
Ruthie, that is so kind of you!!! I love the hula hoop idea! Is it hard to learn to do it again? I think it would take a lot of practice for me!!! lol. Thanks and much love, Melissa
Melissa, well it took me a few weeks, I'll be honest! But I'm so impressed with your backbend!! I can't do those anymore. Keep up the great work-you look fantastic!
Thank you, Melissa! I loved your last exercise video, and this one is even better. I don't think planking would be good, because it involves your elbows and shoulders. I was just thinking about the tennis elbow. You're in excellent shape, and Yoga helps asthma so much. I'm glad it's something you and Doug will be able to do together. Much love~~
Thank you so much Melissa!! You know, I never thought about the planking and my elbow. I think it would put too much pressure on it. aw, thank you. I didn't know Yoga helped asthma!!! I'm for sure going to start it now. Thank you and much love, Melissa
Hey there beautiful I was going ask the same question as the girl below me now I know how you look so wonderful you have inspired me to start a work out regimen now I just gotta figure out when I have been looking for leg wts for a long time can't find them sending love and hugs and prayers hope your feeling better you and Doug .........Susie
aw, thank you so very much. I can't remember where I got the leg weights. I got them so long ago. You are such a sweet lady and I really appreciate you so much. Love, Melissa
Of course you look awesome.....incorporating the planks is a great idea it well help build your inner core.. which is also very important to your over all well being....but you all ready know that.... I take Pilates once a week and do some planks... I am up to one minute per plank now.... Anyway ...I believe that moving / exercise is a must when you are older... and even when you are young..... Hi Melissa, I have been watching you for about three years. We are the same age, I think. I love your videos, and have learned a lot about some basic makeup tips from you. I am using the full obagi right now and need encouragement - which I get from you. Please keep up your channel. I don't mind aging - my mom was beautiful and lived to 78. I just want to be healthy and look the best I can for my age. I am semi-retired, and really enjoying being a gramma. you are an inspiration to me, just that you make an effort, you look great, and you have a sincere kindness that comes from within. By the way, I just bought " And then there were none" and realized it was one of the few AC's that I had already read. I gotta get off the computer and find out who the heck is the culprit. I think its several of them...? By the way my first memory is living in eastern TN... but we moved around a lot because of my Dad's work... I lived in Harriman. I was four, and my mom kept in touch with our neighbors for decades. Thanks for your videos. I LOVE them all.
Wow! God bless you!
I am literally speechless. Excuse my language, but I admire the hell out of you! Wow, what an inspiring story. Would it be okay if I shared it in the downbar above so everyone could see it? It's a post everyone should read. You are one amazing lady. Thank you so much for this. Love, Melissa
*****
Thank you Melissa!
Maura Noonan
Thank you so much. God bless you too sweet lady!
I agree you have an amazing story, WOW your a inspiration, God Bless you!!
I am like you...prefer to exercise at home...I have done both, but home is best. No make up, no fuss, no driving, parking, none od that.
I agree, Nic. And I watch tv and don't even realize I've done my exercises if I get interested in a program. lol. Lots of love, Mel
You have discovered the fountain of youth, that is for sure. I have also seen many northern European women who look fantastic too. Good for you! You are a role model for being healthy and youthful at any age.
+Kimber That is so kind of you Kimber. Many thanks, Melissa
Melissa omg are you a sexy woman, mmm wow!!!!
That is great that you are doing those exercises. It will keep your body limber. Love your videos
you are absolutely amazing!
Great video Melissa. I admire you for sticking with exercise for so long. It shows! You look great. Thanks for sharing.
Well Melissa you can certainly tell that your hard work is paying off. You look amazing!
aw, thank you so much sweet lady! I appreciate it. Love, Melissa
You know, it might be a time where I could view my friends' UA-cam videos, too. So I'm accomplishing two things at once. Thank you!!!
Anything that contributes to your beauty is obviously working, beautiful Miss Melissa, so is fine by us. Thank you for sharing. 💗🌼🌻😊
aw, thank you more than I can say, Dee. Love you lots. Be well! xxx, Melissa
Hi Melissa, whatever you're doing makes you look amazing. Thanks for sharing your routine. You are beautiful inside and out. XOXO, Annette💖
aw, thank you so very much! That is so kind of you. Much love, Melissa
Dear Melissa, you are so inspiring! I am in my 40s and watching you gives me hope that you can still be gorgeous as you age....You are beautiful and look at least 20 years younger!
Thank you so much Devan. By the way, if I had had another girl I was going to name her Devan. I just love the name. Lots of love and thanks, Melissa
Boy are you ever right about that. Oh what an inspiration that man is. I love that he's still doing that. Thank you so much! Much love Melissa
Sherry, I love DVD workouts and especially Jessica's. Her facebook page is also a great place to go for motivation!
I agree! She is a great motivator.
Oh good to know, Debb! Thanks!
Covid has aged me so bad..😐 I find myself going back to everything you do to look so good!! 💖
I like how effortless exercises look if done by you. You motivated me to start over again doing something for my shape. Thank you😊
That is so kind of you to say!!!
Thanks for the demonstration.
Wow Zebra's comment is amazing!! Melissa you have a wonderful figure...You sure keep yourself in great shape..you are beautiful...Love to you Loretta
I thank you for the inspiration to resume my workouts. I seem to go in cycles, as I get bored. I am going to try yours for a while 😘
Thank you so much, Charlie.
Love you! xoxo
Thank you so much, Anne. You have an amazing figure!!! Thank you more than I can say. Have a good week, sweetie pie! xxx, Melissa
You inspire me! Next week I plan on getting back into exercising.
That is so kind of you to say, Laura. Thank you so much. Love, Melissa
My Melissa you are so flexible thats awesome you look amazing so keep doing what you are doing my friend. Hugs and loves Vivienne xxxx
I love your channel and watching you, thank you. xo
Don't feel like an idiot ☺ Thank you so much for doing this video!
aw, thanks, Lori! I just felt embarrassed! lol. Much love, Melissa
You have such a beautiful soul 💕❤️ And I enjoy your videos very much. Blessings.
Thanks Melissa...very simple...very doable...and very effective! You're right...we need to keep flexible all through life but most importantly as we age! Nice routine!💖
Good for you Melissa! I agree with everything you said and you arte beautiful!
You are amazing, and an inspiration
Oh thank you so much, Rita! I don't feel it. I feel like I still need to do so much more! Many thanks, Melissa
Thank you for sharing this helpful video! I am taking notes! Melissa, you're the best!!!!
That is so very kind of you to say. Thank you so much. Love, Melissa
I love your videos Melissa ❤️💕 Thanks for sharing and for making the point that we need to workout for our health and not for our beauty.
Take care,
Lorna
Thank you more than I can say, Lorna. Oh that is so cute that your dogs do it with you!! I really need to start walking. I always think I'm too busy, but other women are, too and they seem to accomplish it. You are so sweet and I really appreciate you. Love, Melissa
perfect and couldn't agree with you more!!
keep up the good work...let's be stronger together 😊
So thanks😀
Oh Erica, I'm so very sorry you have arthritis. I know it must be so painful. Please take care of yourself! I really appreciate you. Love Melissa
Puts no stress on your knees. That is good. My knees hurt.
Thank you so much for sharing your exercises with us! You look fabulous! Love & Hugs! Karen xo
aw, thanks so much, Karen! Lots of love, Melissa
Hi Melissa, all of us mature women, should be doing this...It's important as you said, makes our body stronger longer...Thanks for the demo....Hugs :D
I appreciate that, Martha! Have a wonderful weekend.
Thanks for this, Melissa. You have inspired me to get moving!
aw, thank you so much. Whenever I see your name for a second I think it says, Mary Kay. lol. Much love, Melissa
Great video! You are so flexible. Thanks for the inspiration. This helps push me to pick up my weights.
Thank you so much, Joy!!! Have a terrific week. Love, Melissa
Melissa
50x, ...50x ....
Thanks! I'm get with it 43 in November 🌸 you are good, stay true, stay you, be blessed and keep being a blessing 💖
I'm in such bad shape. lol. Thanks and lots of love, Melissa
thank you for sharing this ,i had been looking for a routine that i could easily do, im going to try these out soon!
Thank you so much!!! I really appreciate it. Love, Melissa
So important. I always say, "move it or lose it." We have to keep moving and lubricating our joints to stay healthy. Love you!
You are so amazing with all you do that I'm embarrassed for you to see the piddling little amount of exercise I do! But like I say, you soar for both of us! Love you!
hey Melissa! great encouraging video! Your body is so firm! You go girl! You look fab!!👍👍💋
You are so kind, Sue. Thank you more than I can say! Love, Melissa
Hi Melissa nice to see you here, yes walk is a very good exercise my husband had asthma, five years ago we adopted two dogs since then we walk twice a day everyday so my husband never had problem with asthma again, yoga is also very good. xoxo
Edna, that is really good to know that walking helped his asthma. That makes me very hopeful. Thank you so very much for that! Much love, Melissa
Thank you for teaching us!
Thank you so much, Angela! I don't know about the teaching part. I feel like I need others to teach me!! lol. Lots of love, Melissa
Melissa55 I think you taught several of us! They're not too strenuous like some of the exercise gurus show!
Balance is very important as we age , yoga helps with this so much
You should try Leslie Sansone walking at home videos. She is very upbeat like you and I think you would like those. Love your videos!
several people have mentioned her and I know I will love them. I'm going to get started on them. Thank you so much!!! Love, Melissa
You do very well indeed. You also have a fabulous figure. Thankyou for showing us this exercise routine. Take care love you xxx
aw, thank you so much, Edwina. I sure do appreciate it.
Hi Melissa❣️I avoid yoga for spiritual reasons. God bless you Melissa❣️🥰💕Weights are good to use❣️
But...that's a big BUT, I don't sit down much during the day if any.
Hey Melissa forgot to ask how many times a week do you this routine? I do the 21 day fix program it's great only 25 minutes, it's good 😘
Hello name twin! I do it five nights a week. Oh that program sounds really good and I like it doesn't take a lot of time. Thanks for the heads up! Love Melissa
Thanks so much!!! I swear it gets harder and harder to get motivated doesn't it? Much love, Melissa
Sweet Melissa,
(my almost name twin)
you are such an inspiration!
❤😘xo! Toni
You are truly my name twin in my heart. love you! Melissa aka Toni Renee!
How do you do BACKBENDS??? THAT'S VERY CHALLENGING! YOU'RE A ROCKSTAR!
