    One of the best channels on pickleball teaching. Jordan explains the nuances of pickleball clearly and accompanied with excellent to understand examples. I love that he doesn't add gimmicks on his teaching. His videos come straight to the point and not waste any time. Awesome! Thank you Jordan and his wife.

    In tennis I used to say that you want to take your most comfortable swing. Whether ground stroke or Volley, you want to repeat a certain chain of mechanical and technical motions that are comfortable and repeatable. It's the job of your legs to get your body to the spot on the court that enables you to make the chain of mechanical and technical motions that are comfortable and repeatable.
    I was happy to hear you repeat the phrase, "Comfort Zone". It's exactly what I was trying to communicate.
    Comfort Zone.

    Thank you for the tip. That’s precisely how I pop up the ball. I’m such a passive player that I always wait until the last minute before I hit the ball. I frequently let the ball get behind me. Instead of stepping back to hit it, I hit it with whatever means I had, including flicking the wrist, to get the ball over the net without any control whatsoever.

    Great timing on this video. I was drilling with a friend yesterday and she wanted to practice defending against drives at her when she is at the NVZ. A third friend did a video and after seeing your video I reviewed ours and sure enough, even the drives right at her, she was overreaching and popping the balls up. I will have to share this with her.

    This is something I definitely need to work on. I have a very bad habit of either kneeling way down and overextending myself and hitting it into the net, or equally bad, backing up a step or two with both feet and now the ball is landing at my feet and I'm completely out of position hitting it into the net or popping it up. Very frustrating because I know I do it but haven't been able to correct it. Drilling would be helpful obviously, just don't have anyone to do it with.

    • @BrionesPickleball
      @BrionesPickleball  3 роки тому +1

      Most body shots can/should be defended with a backhand volley. Yes, as the ball is coming fast, it’s definitely hard to get every ball back! Keep doing volley drills!

    Are you using topsin on those dink returns? What is your opinion on using topspin on both the forehand and backhand dinks?
    Also, for the deeper dinks (like the ones that land nearer to or at your feet), would those be good to attack with a roll volley or offensive hit?

    • @BrionesPickleball
      @BrionesPickleball  Рік тому

      Topspin is always good because it’s an offensive shot. You can roll and attack dinks, but the lower they are, the tougher it will be to execute.

Engage has been awesome in taking care of me but I am wondering if you have noticed the same thing with your paddle? And, if not, what do you think might be the cause of it?

  • @michaelgipson7513

    I have noticed when I’m dinking if my grip gets too tight (a 6 or 7 grip) I pop it up.
    In your opinion what is the best grip to use at the NVZ when dinking and then when you attack and when you’re at the baseline?? Thank you.

    • @BrionesPickleball
      @BrionesPickleball  2 роки тому

      Any time you are hitting a soft shot (dink, 3rd shot drop, etc) your grip pressure should be very light (around a 3-4).
      The continental grip is always preferred when hitting dinks at the NVZ line.

  • @annmaes7550

    Jordon, my pop ups occur when I get caught running to get a short ball. The ball is on its way down from the apex and I need to give it momentum. I’m trying to loosen my grip, but usually my arm is outstretched. What’s the cure?

    • @BrionesPickleball
      @BrionesPickleball  Рік тому

      That’s a tough one, maybe you have to slightly change your court positioning. If you are always playing so far back in the court, then you are going to find yourself running up a lot.

    Thoughts on all the backhand dink volleys Tyson does? Was watching him play at MLP, and if he has any chance to volley it, he will. BUT, the dink itself isn't putting people under pressure. If he lets it bounce, he tends to hit the dink with better accuracy and put more spin on the ball.

    Shouldn’t most step back dinks be volley dunks? If you have to step back, you are missing a chance to volley at the NVZ.

    • @BrionesPickleball
      @BrionesPickleball  2 роки тому +1

      Good players will do a mixture of both. You don’t want to be volley dinking balls that force you into a contact point that is way below knee level. Some dinks at your feet will be better handled by stepping back off the line and allowing the ball to bounce. This will create a higher and more comfortable contact point.
