Having really gotten back into the hobby this year the new SECR Terrier was the first model I picked up (to be fair I was gifted it), and I can honestly say that I couldn't have gotten a better pick if I tried: It could pass off as an industrial kettle; It's right at home on a preservation line; And despite it's inauthentic shape and livery, it could still sneak onto a Southern Railway layout. And really, I just love the look and running of this thing. Mine is on DC so it's quite a jerky start, but from a small tanker that's honestly forgiven.
Very nice to see the two compared. Thank you. I just wish Hornby hadn't done the new one in mainland SR Maunsell green as the same number as their old one in that livery.
Great video and analysis of now and previous models, I come from an age of starting with hornby dublo and I am constantly amazed at how model technology leaps forward. I still have my old hornby stuff to get nostalgic over but I also love the detail of todays models although they can be a bit pricey.
The difference that leaps out at me is the difference in height. In photographs, for instance, in the Hayling Island Branch Line book, Terriers look tiny next to coaches. The new Hornby Terrier captures that, which is why I got one to replace my SR one. Don't know if I will replace my LBSC Railway ones or the SECR one yet.
Jennifer E. Kirk To that age old question “who let the dogs out?” I have an answer. Today I went to my model shop and brought home a pack of terriers: an LBSC, Southern, and SECR. So who let the dog’s out Jen... it was you!
Hi I would like to know which one I should get, the old dapol/hornby ones or the new hornby terriers because I have a old dapol D70 SR 2635 Morden and I want to get some more terriers
It was already being redone before Simon Kohler left, but wasn't ready for announcement by the time he rejoined and he fast tracked it on the announcemen for the rails model
Night and day between the two. The old ones couldn't decide on whether they were A1 or a1x. If you have a secr p it should give a good size comparison between the h, A1/a1x.
Love your channel Jenny... but your intro music gives me a headache 😩 sounds almost like listening to 2 radios at once! Other than that, keep up the good work! Subscribed!
Informative review. I just wish there was an RTR BR Standard 3MT 2-6-0 from someone... Do you have any influence and whom might I contact. (I have already written to Hornby)
@@JenniferEKirk I'm willing to write directly to make the case for RTR 77XXXs. Who should I start with, do you think? I really like your vids. It is refreshing to find women with an interest in railways. The first known rail enthusiast lived next to the GW main line in west London and she was a young woman! I will try to track down her name. But she is part of the historical record, having noted locomotive names. It began with her.

Flying Scott it is a lovely model.
Every day and in every way, Hornby is getting better and better.
William Wade totally agree!

Richard Lee thanks! I also wasn’t best impressed that the SECR one was an early duplicate hence why I have both.

Look forward to see some of these running in a running session! Loving seeing the layout, but missing the big running sessions !
New Mills Model Railway it will happen!
@@JenniferEKirk I look forward to it :-) Still in the planning stages for my own layout, but hopefully will be able to run some trains again soon !
Thanks Jenny, That was very useful.

New ones every time. There is no comparison!
Fantastic comparison! If I had to get one of get the new one, but i'll stick with modern diesels for now!!
I like Transport thanks!
I feel like Rails/Dapol really gave Hornby a kick up the backside to re-tool the class when they announced their own version.
Keithy P i think their announcement certainly fast tracked this model.

Hi Jenny, very good comparison. I wonder, in scale feet, how accurate this model is. Good show. See ya next time.
Norman Rowe thanks! I suspect it is pretty accurate.
1:53 goodness gracious the h class looks massive next to the terrier
A.R. Productions the terrier is tiny.

Another good vdeo. Thanks, Jenny.
Kettenhund31 you’re welcome!
I quite like the simplistic design f the old Hornby tarrier
The new SECR Terrier is superb' makes the old one look like Thomas the tank'
Why not Stepney? 😂😂😂
Ralph West the old one looks plasticky but actually the last of the old terriers seem to have had less effort paid to their finish.
There was two secr greens, a lighter one exised, as well as the more well known darker shade

What's that horrible blob of solder doing in the middle of the inside rail at 3.07?
hamshackleton that would be a horrible blob of solder thanks to my poor soldering skills.

hamshackleton yes it is. Sadly proper solder has been hard to find.
