I love my Oliso and I also have a Panasonic that is really great. But here is a story for you, Laura: I was teaching a "How To Use A Treadle Machine" class and for an iron I used grandmother's cast iron Sad Iron (since we were indoors I did not use a fire to heat it but rather a hot-plate). Some of my students were inquisitive about my iron and how I knew the temperature of when to use a Sad Iron. I explained it to them how grandmother did - you know when to use it depending on how long you can hold your hand in front of it: "spit on your finger and it sizzles then it is cotton or linen, hold your hand 2" away then it is wool, 3" away then it is synthetic and warm enough to hold in your hand then it is silk."

Miss Laura, yet again... you taught this 62 year old man tricks of ironing and pressing..... you knowledge is my weekly drug for my happy place, which is my sewing room... I have the yellow Oliso Smart iTouch, as well, I have Rowenta, a Chi, and a good old Black and Decker... I use and love the Oliso for the 30 shut off... I also have a couple mini, and small minis... Next I want the small Oliso.. I love collecting as you might see... thank you as always for sharing your extensive knowledge with us... Jon

The only thing I ever ironed with the space between sole plate and iron was the area around buttons on a men’s dress shirt. The small area was perfect for the button to go into. I did not know that you could iron packets on pockets, etc with it. Thanks for sharing your wealth of information.

Laura - when I lived in India in the early 2000's saw many "dobis" (laundry men) using big old fashioned irons, some filled with coal others heated over a little bed of coals. Also pretty much everything is starched and washed by hand!

Thank you for the video and tips for ironing. Love the wool pressing mat. I bought the Oliso mini to keep next to my sewing machine. I'm obsessed over pressing while I'm piecing a quilt. I've had nothing but trouble with the iron. Sent the first one back and they did replace it. My biggest features I look for is does it stay on and does it spit on my quilt and leave a stain. The new oliso mini steams when it feels like it and if it really doesn't like me it spits on my work. If you tip the iron up slightly to see if steam is coming out the scalding hot water inside will run down your arm!

Thanks for the update me on the iron! I like ironing items looks better specially shirts.
I bought a black and decker but it is
Blue! Ha I had purchased before the Rowenta and didn’t last much (2 years) and the reviews were bad. And expensive for me now.
I really like the price less than $15.00 and my surprise it has the space in the sole plate.
The reason is that toasters and iron have the same electric circuit. The only difference is how pretty they are, and others great features that I can live without.
It depends of how much the electrical circuit will endure and it isn’t for ever.
Thanks for sharing and also saw you with the crazy snow slider a fantastic idea I live now on snow place, CA! before. I am a quilter the brand sliders are expensive, excellent video.

Hello! Gabi, from Buenos Aires, Argentina here. I love your advice & ideas videos ! I find them very useful Thank you! .... to my question .. I had a senior moment and accidentally run my very hot steam iron over a piece of lining ( the silkiesh kind you find on the inside part of jackets ) it melted! I immediately run it over a piece of wet cloth on the edge of my ironing board and removed as much as I could. Then I run it over a wet towel. My iron now has a navy blue/ black patch!!! any ideas?? Thanks in advance !

Laura, Do you have any tips for what to place under your wool pressing mat? I don't use steam on mine, I adjusted my iron to a moderate heat setting (too hot iron caused iron plate to gunk up). I had my cutting board under it, but the cutting board has begun to buckle/warp. I'm afraid to place it directly on any surface for fear it will damage that surface. Internet sleuthing on wool mat usage was not helpful at all....

I know your in Canada, Im in Tucson Az. We have extreme "hard water" here. If the iron calls for regular tap water but you use either distilled or spring water does it male a difference? How about when that water is steamed onto the fabric? Oblivious those waters have different chemicals.

I can’t find a steam generator that bypasses it. Do u know of one?

Do you have any opinion/experience/recommendations regarding the new irons that automatically do automatic temperature selection? Is it something reliable/recommended? For example, Philips has irons with OptimalTEMP feature and Braun had iCare.
Another question that I have is about the difference between normal iron and ironing station (separated water tank). How do they compare to one another?
Regarding steam production. How much is "enough"/usable? When do i need 40, 50, 60 or 240g/min?

This doesn’t appear to be a fair and impartial assessment of what to look for in an iron. IMHO, the video’s title is misleading because there appears to be more interest in highlighting the features of this particular iron than in sharing information on what to look for in a good iron in general. IMHO you should have told us whether or not you had received compensation of any sort for promoting this company’s irons.
