When we built our house, i asked my hubby to put a light switch by the door that would turn off anything connected to a specific outlet. That is the outlet my iron and steam press are connected to. So when I go out the door I make sure they are off by turning off the switch to that outlet. Works like a charm.
Excellent video! I learned many things that I thought I already knew, and a lot more I didn't know! Love your way of explaining information in a gentle manner that helps me process while listening to you. Blessings!
My old Oliso is just not working anymore. 4 yrs. of constant use in my sewing room. I love the lift feature so much, I can't bring myself to buy any other brand. I ordered the newest one shown here, and it's at the Oliso website. They have the best price right now compared to other sites. Thank you for all the Oliso tips! I love your wool pressing mat too!
I have an 1800-watt, top-of-the-line Rowenta Professional steam and dry iron and definitely prefer it to the ripoff Oliso at $200.00. Originally $120.00, my blue Rowenta has every high-end bell and whistle imaginable, including a super-steaming 3-D stainless steel soleplate and vertical steaming. I bought it around 5 years ago on a short flash closeout sale for $55.00 with free shipping. Made in Germany (not China!) it still looks and runs like new using plain tap water. With easy 1-pass ironing, it produces so much steam through 400 micro-holes that mesh-top ironing boards are recommended for complete moisture evaporation. Starch and starch alternatives are rarely needed. There are way too many complaints about the Oliso's scorch guard system breaking. We've been using Rowenta irons since the 1970s and love them. Their technology was way ahead of its time. My mother paid around $85.00 for her first Rowenta steam iron decades ago. Only 1200 watts, it still looks and runs like a champ. It works infinitely better than a limited mini-iron.
I too owned a Rowenta for years. It gave out last year so I bought another. After just 2 weeks it leaked. Rowenta refused to replace it but instead repaired it. Finally got my iron back only to have it leak again. I never stored it with water in it and made sure the steam chamber was empty. No more Rowenta, now have the Oliso. I don't need steam as this iron is hot enough and heavy enough. Got it on sale. Rowenta was quite disappointing. I expected better.
@@sandidavis45 You didn’t deal with Rowenta properly. They have to replace a lemon if it's under factory warranty. Rowenta has a 25-year limited warranty.
@Paula A Johnson I made numerous attempts to have it replaced. They refused. They were only willing to fix it again. My iron was gone over 6 weeks the first time. I wasn't willing not to quilt for another six weeks. It should have been replaced from the start. Glad your iron works for you. Mine works for me.
good tips...unplugging the iron is VERY important...I've had two iron's fail since i never had the habit of unplugging, certainly i shut it off....fortunately the warranty covered the replacements and I've had NO troubles since making a habit of unplugging the iron....I do love the itouch feature of the Oliso iron!
Absolutely love this tutorial. I am a huge Oliso fan. I definitely learned a few tips. Thanks for that, it shows you can teach an old dog new tricks. Lol
This iron's US MSRP is $229.99! Its sale price is $199.99! There's no way I'd pay that much for an iron made in China. There are significant consumer complaints about the overpriced Oliso Pro Plus at Amazon.
I have had my Oliso iron for over 5 years. I love it, it never drips or overflows extra water on my fabric. The plate never gums up. Yes I did pay $199.99 for it over 5 years ago, but it has been worth every dime of it. A good iron is costly no matter what the brand. I feel I have got my money worths out of this iron. In fact I purchased a mini Oliso for travel. When I do classes I make sure I take it for everyone to use. All my students love it. I don’t know why Amazon people had so many complaints. I will have to check that out.
Such great tips! I don't think much about my iron or ironing techniques so this was a good wake up call for me. I don't have an Oliso, but I may have to consider it now. Thanks!
Thank you for the tips and giving of your time. 😊 I so want an iron like this, but I just bought a new one about 2 weeks ago. However my birthday is coming soon. 🤪
Thank you Laura. You mentioned not to use hard water but did not say what water to use if you have hard water. I purchased this iron and followed the instructions to a T. I have hard well water. Oliso says use spring water not distilled water. I did just that. My iron works intermittently. Some days perfect others it spits and leaks! If you have any suggestions I would greatly appreciate them.
I waited well over 1 year for my Oliso Pro Plus. Love it. Question for Laura: do you leave the water in the Oliso when finished ironing? My previous Rowena irons would leak if I left water in it. I also do set the Oliso on end, u plugged when I have finished for the day. Love your videos.
I always leave water in mine and haven’t had a problem with leaking. But I use it daily for sewing. I’d probably empty it if I wasn’t going to use it for a few days, just to be on the safe side.
Hello Laura, as always informitive, and ever so beautfiul.... I have the Oliso TG1600 in yellow, and her little sister Mini in yellow as well... (I love her even in the house)... I'm thinking the only difference is the sole-plate... but it's on great iron, and I'm delighted to see you explain the wonderful techniques you always share... I hope you have a wonderful Autumn season, and glorious entry into our Winter Season.... Jon
Laura, I really really wanted this iron, and the first one I got sounded like it was breathing!! I ordered another one and it didn’t have the breathing problem, however, it would not do a shot of steam. Every time I would try to get a shot of steam all that came out was water. I was so disappointed and sad because I loved the feature of it standing up after taking my hand off the handle. So disappointed.
I hear alot complaining about leakage and the cost is outrageous for something that ends up leaking. They make plates now for hot irons to sit on like our great grandmother's used
I love the concept of the auto feet raising feature, but I purchased the iron when it was first introduced...I waited almost a year for it and then after receiving it, I had so many problems. I went through 4 irons because they kept dripping and excessive spitting. Caution when purchasing this iron. Great review, but I'm still skeptical.
You may have mentioned in another video, but where can I find a large wool pressing mat? I have a smaller one and would love to have a larger one for yardage.
I have this exact iron. I have to say I am disappointed with it especially considering the price I paid. I returned one as it leaked for replacement. I make baby bonnets and have scorched so many while pressing and had to throw them away. I also use Sulky Tender Touch to cover embroidery stitches on baby clothing. This iron causes it to curl on the edges, scorch, or not bond well. I actually prefer my old Chi - it was a better iron at half the price.
Normally I would never doubt your word but I don't think we need minerals in anything to produce steam, distilled water is an example. To be honest I don't think any iron over time can withstand repeated use of water internally..but thats just my opinion based on leaky irons and 50+ years experience ironing..
I also love to iron, l use a 1800 W Rowenta. ( l have 2 ) Love steam and a good iron for quilting. This one would be hard to get use to Lol, I may try one when mine stop working
Had this iron and leaks! Threw it away and got cordless iron and has worked flawless. I use spray bottle water and no more leaks from this irons. This iron is overpriced for what it is. Sorry to say.
Thank you I was contemplating buying this iron but now I see your review others have said the same thing. For 200 bucks they can keep the iron. Roweta rocks. Love them.

I love my Olisso!
I highly recommend this iron for anyone with arthritis.
I didn’t realize the extent of the wisdom my Mother used in teaching me to hand pat the starch after spraying onto material before ironing/pressing.
Thanks!
This is so timely for me. I have an Oliso iron but haven't used it yet. Great tips, Laura. Thank you for the video 😊👍💕

Thanks so very much for this video. I just ordered my first Oliso today! This was a big help.
great tips even for a regular iron. love the idea of an iron you can just place and move on. they cost waaay too much money though. $200 US dollars!

I love your tips for the eliso iron.
LOVE these tips! 🤔been thinking about a new iron so this was timely. Thank you 😊
I love my (older) Olisso iron. Thanks for the great tips especially the one about leaving it upright when unplugged.0
I just got this iron recently. Thank you Laura!🥰
Interesting tips!! Never thought about it much!
I love my iron. Like yours. I do not unplug mine. I flip the serge protector off. I do not have the brand new model though. At least not yet.
I have a mini Oliso and like it. Good video, thanks
This is the best thing I’ve every owned…I iron everything 😊
You said that you don't have to stand the iron upright, so why do you use the iron that way instead of using the feet on the iron?
I enjoy your tips Laura. Thank you so much!
Great tips thank you😀
Great tips and instructions as always! What is the name of the quilt block you were ironing during this tutorial? Thanks
it is a Pineapple Block

Bottled Spring water is what my oliso iron manual said.

It is a great iron but.......I have found that the feet don't always recede far enough into the plate.
I'll be ironing wrinkles from the edge
and it's because the feet drag the fabric. I iron a lot of clothes, but got a second iron.
You may have mentioned in another video, but where can I find a large wool pressing mat? I have a smaller one and would love to have a larger one for yardage.
Amazon.
Where did you get your huge ironing wool mat? I am having a hard time finding one that big.
my sprayer quit spraying. any suggestions?? I did just do the cleaning you suggested with the vinegar and water. Didn't help (with the sprayer)
Thank you for tips
I have two yellow Olisso’s that died. Do you know any repair people?
Repair stations should be listed in documents that came with your irons. If not, contact Oliso's customer service by phone.

I will warp your cutting matt even if it is lifted, found out the hard way.
Yes just press on your pressing mat/board etc...not a cutting mat. Thanks for the reminder
I have a purple one but it leaks. Any pointers?
