      Black stallion works well to be honest!!
      I think that "Midnight Tide" might also be a viable option.
      Regarding the watch, I think it takes the whole line of ATs to next level and put them on par (for general market) if not way exceeding (to me) the explorers and the OPs.

    In terms of daily use the main difference in the movements is that the 8800 has a quick date set whilst in the 8900 the hours jump like in a GMT which makes it better for travelling.

    I do like it, and finally a reasonable thickness, but... They offer as a million different dial colours, but still we can't have a no-date option. I would also prefer a fully brushed bracelet. As it is, I would put it in a distressed leather strap to dress it down a bit.

  • @cdaack

    For a time and date only, I can’t believe Omega can’t make these watches under 12mm thick. That double escapement needs an update before I can call it perfect.

    Love the updates to the bracelet but really not a fan of the now completely polished case. Makes the angles of the case appear less distinct and somehow looks cheaper overall. Apart from less versatility for an 150m WR everyday watch.

  • @uncles2000
    @uncles2000 11 днів тому +2

    I went to purchase the 40mm Explorer and left with the 41mm Aqua Terra. Why? The Aqua Terra has a better blend of tool/field and dress watch than the Explorer. The dial’s embassies ‘pop’ in the light with a dressier vibe. The subtle dial minute rail track, adds a touch of tool/field vibe. The deep black dial color with raised logo adds the last touch of differentiation from the Rolex. As far as the date goes, it’s perfectly color matched, and the trapezoid polished outline helps to integrate it to the dial embassies. This makes it feel like it is supposed to be there. It should respond well to strap options. Simply put, it’s a better GADA watch. You see this when you hold them side by side and on the wrist. The press photos and videos do not do the watch justice. It needs to been seen in the sunlight, on the wrist. The 8900 is a great movement with the jump hour and METAS. PERFECT watch, far from it. The case back should be solid taking away a few mm of height. The bracelet is great, the clasp not so much. It should be a sports with more adjustment. The micro adjustment on the clasp has 1 position. Really a 1/2 link adjustment. A token feature at best. I guess better than none. If you hate a date window, well nothing will fix that. The polished surfaces will ultimately scratch. Long term, there will be polishing, to keep its appearance. If you’re looking for an alternative to the Rolex, and all the games, currently associated, with the brand, then this is a viable alternative. I left one Rolex available in the world for you to find.

    I've been watching Omega for years the Aqua Terra was always nearly there but for the horrible dials now this turns up and in 38mm it's fabulous. If I hadn't been watching for so long I wouldn't be aware that the price is thousands more than if it had been getting increased with inflation. I'd love one but I think every time I looked at it I'd thinking "Mug".

    The addition of on the fly micro adjustment the bracelet is exactly what I’d hoped Omega would do to the AT. The 8900 movement is excellent, I own the current version of Planet Ocean which I wear every day and the accuracy is impressive. This new Aqua Terra would be a perfect second watch for me as it’s a bit more dressed up and I’m not really into dress watches. Could well be the perfect 2 watch collection

    If memory serves me correct another key difference between the Cal 8900 vs the 8800 is quick set hour hand vs quick set date. Personally neither here nor there for me, but if you’re a regular traveller and this is a “one watch collection” the 8900 would be more functional to set the new time zone without stopping the seconds hand.

    I just can't see myself pairing a black dial watch with my outfits; I would love to see color variations of this lacquered dial. At this point, I think I would still get a Shades instead.
    And the micro-adjustment is too narrow for me: I normally use up to 5 settings of the 6 available in the Seamaster 300 M on a hot day. I guess that can work out since I see the aquaterra as a complementary, dressier watch for fancy evenings only.

      Just purchased it with the silver dial, it's a stunner. Thought about getting an Omega AT and then got a black Tag Heuer Carrera + the silver Longines Conquest instead.

    I've been enjoying my Sinn 556i....similar size and black dial with a bit more rugged and casual look. Perhaps not as feature filled from a movement perspective, but a step down in price. Still think the Explorer is a classic. I love the look of Omega in pics, but can't get a good fit on my wrist.

    Two things that make the 38mm not perfect for me:
    1) polished centre links
    2) the real world lume on my 2015 38mm ‘Skyfall’ AT is terrible as they use so little lume on the hands. It seems they have the same hands here, so same issue I expect. Maybe it is better on the 41mm?

    It’s not to bad except that it is very shiny as it is polished all the way but some people do like this.

      @@Gonzo1968 Na not for me, 41mm and slim design is too small. I’m 6’3 ft tall and built like a linebacker, That’s why I own the Sky Dweller 42mm with broader design as my dress piece.

    No date, more lume on the hands, more brushing (like OG) and drop the price £1200 and it would be perfect. £400 more and you can have a Speedmaster or save £600 and get the 300m which is a finished, spec's and used better materials.

    Perfect, except the lume is weak on the minute hand on ATs and looks like it is missing.
    Imagine if Omega rereleased the 1967 SM300 like this though.......that would smash everything!

    I heard that the clasp is crap. It would look much better without the date window.

  • @97f043
    @97f043 Місяць тому +2

    It's ridiculously expensive. And the position of the date window on the 38mm version is off, it's too high. And the butterfly clasp looks awful, especially in this price range. And it's still too thick.

  • @Shwe4818
    @Shwe4818 Місяць тому

    Looks superb but I still don't understand why it's so thick. A simple 3 hander with date with Omega's R&D team should be striving for 10 to 11mm thickness. Surely if Tudor can do it with their BB58 and BB54 models Omega can as well.

    Oyster Perpetual in 36mm is still the king of simplicity, legibility, understatedness, class, and value retention.
    On top of that, movement is also somehow more superior unless you NEED to wear it into the MRI machine.

  • @danikai2562

    I wonder if Omega could put any more polished finishes on this model!!?? Cheapens the watch. They just keep missing and this simply doesn’t even compare to an OP or Explorer. I wish it did.
