1.5 is all about the revving, the gear shifting, and the softtop that let the air and noise arouse your senses of pure joy over the speed and hp. The 1.5 ND is really offer the driving experience as close to NA as possible. It's all about FUN.
I had an original Lotus Elan for 13 years back in the 70’s and 80’s and now I have a 1500 MX5 ND. I’ll take chassis performance over power every time for UK roads if you know how to drive. Keep up the corner speed and you simply don’t need extra power.
10:08 I think you might be selling me on the 1.5, my first car (a 1.1 Kia picanto) I really threw around because of the 'no fear' aspect of being able to use the whole throttle through bends. Good point!
Had one of these for 6 months and every trip was a joy. Plenty fast on an empty road but lacked power for overtaking at 60mph but I'd just enjoy the feeling of openness at any speed.
I wish we had the 1.5 as an option in the US. I think my NA was more fun driving around town because you could hammer it without getting to "lose you license" speeds. The 2.0 in my ND quickly gets the car to speeds that are way to fast and unsafe where I do 98% of my driving. I really think less power (but still high revs) would be more fun.
Very good review, I need another ND in my life, I had an ND1 2 litre, I liked the engine even tho it apparently wasn’t the best, can’t make up my mind if I want a ND 2 with 2 litre or 1.5
I test drove the 1.5 after owning the Fiat 124 1.4 turbo (which was written off by some idiot) and decided it was far too slow. I ended up buying an ND2 2.0 184 which you have to work hard at when driving but it is quick when pushed, unlike the 1.5.
Test drove one of the 1.5 and think the 1.5 is absolutely relevant for this chassis. Its not underpower by all means and its fun as hell to wind the motor. For me apart from the transmission tunnel bump, the driving position is spot on, and I love how the transmission shifts! I havent test drove the 2.0 and I'd expect it'd be a hoon to drive one
Owning a 1.5 ND ... I certainly can relate to the statement there is something about owning a sports car and mashing the throttle right down and it not scaring you ... that is what is lacking .... it is NOT Scary fast .... Smiling fast it is ... IMHO in the outright straight line speed category ... there is Smiling, Scary, $h!7 (your pants) and Soul Snatching fast.
Easily the go to performance car for Malaysia. 1.5 litre capacity (road tax benefits!) and an actual easy to use SIX SPEED gearbox. Out of curiousity, when you say 'wrong gear', were you in third but you should've been in 2nd?

I have a 1.5, live in the countryside in England and it’s perfect. Love it!
The sound of this car is so pure and music to ears. I love it!
Love your enthusiasm Thomas - and yes I did get the perspective on the 1.5 being good enough - from your smile more fun too!
Yep! It's definitely enough. It gets better as the drive goes on!
I'm surprised I don't see comments talking about the scenery in this video. It's absolutely beautiful! Matched with the Miata = gold.

First video I've watched from you and gotta say I've thoroughly enjoyed it!

Glad you enjoyed the video!
@@SamSayaz yep. If you setup the car nicely on the entry, you can really push the throttle on the way out. And the feedback gives a lot of confidence
Thank you for doing this great review. I'm sold on the 1.5!
Go for it! You’re welcome!

Fantastic driving Thomas! Glad you enjoyed it.

Bro, you're moering it 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
🚀🚀🚀🚀
The sounds of engine revving… 🤤🤤..
Cool and proff review. Like it😊😊😊😊😊

Everyone can drive a fast car fast, but not everyone can drive a slow car fast
It’s not a „slow car“ ! And makes actually more fun to drive than 95% of all cars - REGARDLESS of price!
And believe me: I really can judge that!
Love my 2021 Jet Black automatic. RF mx5

As well as you can save a small fortune on both Gasoline and Insurance 😊
If I go for a 1.5 is the ND3 really better than the ND2 thanks to it’s New rear update ?
The most annoying thing about the MX5 is that when you get stuck behind other cars on a twisty road it feels like they are going in slow motion.
Driving fast in a "slow" car is much more fun. And requires more skill.
I think the 1.5 is not available in LEFT HAND DRIVE USA they really missed out on this little ripper
What about the 2.0?
Have you gone thru any training to drive in such a pro way? Pls advise pls
Why ur mini following at the back?
Hello, nice Review! Is this miata 1.5 without bilstein and with 195/50/16 Wheels?
Thanks. Car is completely stock. As for wheels, I can’t recall.
Anyone know why the 2019 onward ND2 1.5L is better than the ND1 1.5L? Is it just things like Apple/Android car play and a reversing camera?
Engine is excactly the same. New exhaust manifold and catalists. New mapping. Max torque available 400 rpm earlier
A few bits but the major items are; Steering column adjustment, transmission faults corrected, 2.0 has more development
Is there a 1.5 auto soft top?
Manual is much more fun and engaging, trust me

overthrown by a citroen saxo tho:)
Get one la... wait what?
No real difference between 1,5 ND1 and ND2
So, the chassis is good.
But the lack of power is way too obvious.
The 2.0 would’ve been the minimum
There's no lack of power, the ND was created around the 1.5 engine
