Outstanding vlog as always guys, love how much fun you both are. And the tips were spot on and brilliant, I'm so glad you showed the pump the brakes after fitting one side before starting the other side, most people don't put that and the viewers if they don't know to do that step, would end up with an overflowing fluid from the reservoir which is horrendous. Legends. Hope you have a great week and Best wishes and stay safe and well to you both and your families ❤️ 💙 ❤️ 💙 ❤️ 💙 ❤️
Hi Neil - great video and explanation on how to replace the pads! 👍😊 I was licensed once upon a time to do this for a living and am always a little critical of encouraging folks to work on brakes and steering in their driveway. 🤔 Lots can go wrong and you're not just putting your life at risk, but all the motorists around you. So, if in doubt - have a shop do this for ya. 😉👍 (SmartAss mode on) A couple of important notes though: Don't trust that jack to keep the vehicle up. 🚑Use a jack stand. Safety first. Brake fluid is hygroscopic and attracts water, which in turn reduces the boiling point over time. Use the brakes rapidly in (e.g.) mountainous areas and the stuff in the lines begins to boil. Gas builds up, gets compressed and the brakes fade away. Solution: Have the fluid changed every two years. ✅ Use copper paste or similar between the pistons and the pads as well. That will reduce the chance of the brakes squeeling on you. 😖 You twisted the hose and noticed it. Thanks for saving that on film. This is just as important as the rest of the video. 🙏 (SmartAss mode off) Aside from that - you two are a pleasure to watch and you appear to have fun doing these vids. Keep going! 🥇 🍀🙂 Best regards from Germany, Volker www.gonefilming.de
@@UrbanVanlife Yeah, commonly overlooked. The water in there is also a good source for corrosion at the master cylinder and the pistons in the caliper. Manufacturer's recommendations differ (I don't have my maintenance book in reach right now) - but Mercedes recommends 20,000 miles or two years on the Sprinter. I'd suspect VW Crafter (as the chassis are identical) to be at least similar. You're also running your decked out van probably near the 3.5 ton limit - stopping the rig takes all the help you can get. 😉
@@UrbanVanlife Neil easiest was to show how brake fluid absorber’s moisture is fill an egg cup leave it in a well ventilated place say your garage make sure you put it on a plate check it in a few days I can guarantee it will have overflowed,it’s common practice in the trade to change fluid every 2 years hope this helps
Great vlog dude can't wait to catch up with you guys at the show. P.s just seen the post on Instagram of your limited edition one off old slash new stickers 😜
It's funny. I never expected you to be exploring abandoned places. But seemed to me just watching a couple of your vids pretty much summed up your channel and I never gave it a second thought. I do like your new name, but I would have been scared to change it with as many subs as you have. But from the looks of it, it didn't have a lot of effect on your current numbers. Which is good. Yup looks like those pads were in need of a change. Nice tutorial on the brakes. Jessie always does our brake work. And most of our other maintenance, as well. It's such a money saver.
yer it saves so much if you can do your own work dosnt it , as for the naame change , i was getting aall kinds of comments form people who came cos they thought we did urbex , i mean it wasnt hard to figure out what we do but changing it just saves me explaining to them all
The rear has shoes for the handbrake and pads for the service brake. The sliders on these are prone for seizing so would always recommend removing and greasing before fitting new pads, and my old dad would have kicked me all around the yard for even going near a motor on a jack and no stands. Please people don't do it, I know of one person who had a foot amputated after a Transit fell on him working on it just on a jack. At the very least put the wheel under the bottom arm so it has something to land on if it falls off the jack.
A lot of people mention the jack but Iv never in my life ever known a jack to fail . Never even seen it happen . And I’m not saying don’t do it . But how many of us have changed a wheel on the motorway . Or even drive no one I think the dangers of any thing happening are very very slim . But it is recommended . Just like not smoking abs not drinking in excess is but who ever listens to that
Heads up for anyone using Juratek pads with lovey shiny alloys..... They're a 'DIRTY' brake pad! The amount of dust you get off them is unreal!!!! Fitted them to a Shogun with alloys... Within days, went from clean shiny alloys to absolute filth - and they stayed like that, no matter how often I cleaned them....! 😬
No wiggle room in those brake pads or pistons 👍 Probably need to do ours soon, you beat us to the video though, did your wear sensor come on before you replaced them?
DONT FORGET AXLE STANDS FFS or you’ll be burnt at the stake. And no the sensors didn’t come on there was a lot left on them before they would have kicked in
Hello to both. Just had my crafter pass mot. But front service brake binding advisory...would you change all of caliper etc or as I will do since watching a excellent demo ,change pads. Cheers
Apologies for being random here. But I got an advisory also for front drivers step being a rotten where jack shelf is. It's part of seat belt anchorage, if you've never looked under plastic check them out. Thank you for reply.
I would never recommend a novice to attempt doing brakes on a vehicle, not because they are a difficult job but for the fact that if they are not done correctly it could be fatal. I have seen far too many have a go hero mistakes in my career
i had an engine fall out 10 mtrs from a garage once cos it haad been in for new mounts i guess even the pros do it wrong lol , but you cant go wrong with pads , i mean you have to be propper special ,
@@UrbanVanlife I wouldn't call them pros if the engine fell out and certainly wouldn't use them again if that were the case. Look how easily the brake pipe was twisted, that's the sort of easy mistake amateurs can make and cause serious accidents with. Brakes are probably one of the simplest parts to service but if not done correctly can be catastrophic. I'm not having a go, I've just seen far too many incompetent people attempting things like brakes or suspension
@scott Mackenzie I am the owner of the garage who done Neil’s rear brakes. And I must say he’s got more knowledge than half the mechanics out there. Just watch a few more of his videos mate then judge him. Also the twisted brake pipe that he seen and fixed straight away. That happens day to day in a lot of well established garages.
@@seanscallon2014 like I said I wasn't having a go at Neil or judging him and I enjoy most of his videos. Great to see the renaming of the channel went well! I swung by your channel after Nick Nimmin's stream btw haha

Really digging the channel name change. It's looking great over here.

I was always told to lay the tire flat underneath the body of the vehicle if you don’t have a axle stand just to be on the safe side

It’s like a brake pad but when the iPhone decides it wants to spoil your day lol
Do you have to reset the brake wear indicator warning light, after replacing the pads?
No it should automatically go off
