  • How I reset and the rear brake calipers without computer on VAG cars.
    Volkswagen, Audi, Skoda, Seat.
    Normaly you need a computer program to do this job, but I dont have it so I use this method, it's not correct but works fine for me, use this tips at your own risk.

    Thank you very much. I just failed at replacing the rear brakes of a 2019 Tiguan due to the caliper motor keeping the caliper closed. Now I can safely and effectively open them up to receive the new brake pads I purchased. Major HELP!!! Kudos!!!

    Very helpful video. The caliper and epb motor seem to be the same as in my car (2013 Golf Mk7 Estate 1.6 TDi 77kW). But my caliper is mounted at about 12 O'Clock whereas yours is more like 3 O'Clock. I wonder if that has any significance ? In my case the piston is sticking due to split in dust cover leading to corrosion of the piston. I would be grateful to receive any advice you might wish to offer about changing the piston.

    Well this is interesting, I'm at my shop working on stuff watching you at your shop working on stuff🤔
    I'm really diggin that caliper piston compressor set. I may look into one of those, I either just use that little block that's got all the different size knobs on it, or the shop one which is horrible.

    Very helpful video. Could you possibly clarify 2 points for me ? Is a new 'O' ring usually required between motor & calliper body ? And did you rotate the piston or simply push it back into the cylinder ?

      @trihordias 17 днів тому

      Hi, it's a simple job but very important to do it in order! You have to: 1st rotate the gear behind the piston so the piston has space to move in
      and 2nd press the piston in. Be careful not to push it beyond its limit or you risk damaging the el.moter and piston.

    Find / buy a similar electric plug and apply 12V DC on the gearbox motor (mind the polarity - otherwise the piston will go out) . It will save you some time with dismantling the gearbox ! :)))

    • @jansolo55
      @jansolo55 3 роки тому +3

      Right : if you connect a 12V spare DC battery on the socket, and invert the polarities, the motor will work reverse . You don't need a similar connector : put a thin pin on each cable, and introduce both in the caliper socket , that will be enough .

      Reversing the brake motor is much easier and safer way to do this job.
      A small pair of jumpers with insulated crocodile clips and lay out your large jumper leads on the floor for a power supply from the cars battery.
      Switching is done by touching the small jumpers on the big jumpers.

    if I replace the pads and do exactly like you do in video.. when everything is installed, do I need to activate the electric handbrake-button in the car, and everything will line up in position.. (electricmotor "piston" on the caliper piston and the caliper piston against the pads and the pads against the discs) ? after pads installation, the motor needs to push the piston so much further than before.. will the motor run until it reaches stop-end, and then stop (handbrake activated)

    • @frodelarsen7105
      @frodelarsen7105 2 роки тому +8

      For readers in the future. Apply brake pressure as normal with the brake pedal first. That way you do not "overload" the electric motor. Apply electric handbrake and it can run without resistance until it stops. Also it is recommended to release electric parking brake, build brake pressure with brake pedal, and reapply electric parking brake one more time.

    • @stuffoflardohfortheloveof
      @stuffoflardohfortheloveof 20 днів тому +1

      Don't know where you're getting that phrase from but all he's doing is physically 'winding' back the 'plate' that pushes against the caliper. In normal use the electrical motor does this for you. He's doing it in stages (doesn't need to) where he winds back then pushes the caliper back to meet the 'plate' again, then repeats until he's wound back completely.
      There are other YT vids where you connect your own 12v source to electrically wind back the 'plate' for you, allowing you to push back the caliper yourself.
