I bought my Superman SW-200 in Nov 2020 and sent it back Feb 2021 due to the timing bezel sticking, coming to a snag while manipulating. Customer service was pretty quick with sending me a return label to send the watch to their work shop and that took 1-2 months. It has worked fine since getting it back and is one of my most worn watches.

Dear @The Time Teller, we just came across your video, we respect the fact that everyone is entitled to his own opinion, above all our customers’ feedback which we monitor closely, but very respectfully we feel that some statements are a bit exaggerated in this social media era where negativity bias is more compelling than slow improvements. Please don’t take this message in the wrong way, it’s meant to be respectful, informative and transparent.
YEMA is a third-generation family-run watchmaker, we are not a micro-brand, we count over 60 employees of whom many of them average +30 years of service, we are proud to have our own workshops and we export watches to close to 100 countries.
The YEMA2000 In-house Caliber is not “new”, it was released in 2021 as an improved iteration of our MBP1000 caliber developed in 2011. Since then over 300,000 calibers have been sold in the last 12 years. There are no known issues to us, we observe the usual rate of after-sales interventions for such a long-established caliber. Malfunctions do occur as it’s a mechanical movement made of hundreds of micro-components and we understand is frustrating for those customers having experienced this, but again this is rather uncommon. To our knowledge, we are the only brand that offers 24/7 online customer support in 7 different languages and after-sales maintenance and repairs are handled in less than 30 days. All this represents a substantial investment and is meant to ensure customer satisfaction.
We are also proud to reinvest most of our profits in R&D in a quest of continuous improvement and innovation. We are coming up with a new range of higher-end Manufacture calibers that will soon equip a new range of YEMA timepieces. All above information is publicly available at yema.com.
We are also a bit surprised about your “huge catalog” statement and privileging quantity Vs quality. A quick visit to yema.com shows that our catalog is consistently made of an average of 50 timepieces, of which many are just different dials of one same model. In fact we manage around 20 main references which eases manufacturing, quality control and stock management. Over the years we have found that this is the perfect balance for us, our small catalog size doesn’t compare to those of similar established brands who release new collections on a weekly basis and have catalogs made of +200 models. Every brand has its own business model that simply responds to production capacity and market demand. It’s also worth to note that the design, prototyping and production life-cycle of each individual model is 12 months, as such, we are currently working on summer 2024 releases. It’s a lot of work to release a new model and it involves several resources from different departments.
For the record we release around 10 new models at year on a limited stock basis, this is, 10 new models enter the catalog and another 10 previous models exit the catalog. We just keep a few historic timepieces in our catalog evergreen. Perhaps our strategy of releasing new models on a monthly basis Vs grouping all releases on a yearly launch makes you think “quantity” but we can assure you that in fact it’s just an impression, at the end of the day it’s the same number of releases and same amount of watches on a yearly basis. This strategy works well for us as it creates a certain dynamism around the brand year-round, rather than focusing all our efforts on a yearly release.
Now something we publicly acknowledge we’ve done wrong in the past and that might explain those customers complaints you are getting is the fact that during 2020-2021 we were working with long-established external partners that experienced quality issues. During that period we got abnormal after-sales volumes and this made us decide to fully internallze manufacturing and when not possible to outsource to local partners in a radius of 50 miles from our workshops i.e. French and Swiss renowned partners who use to work for the most prestigious Swiss brands. Again, all this info is public at yema.com it just takes a visit to the calibers section and products released since 2022 to learn about it.
To prove our good faith and that this is not another “marketing message” from a brand, we kindly invite you to visit our workshops so you can witness first-hand YEMA manufacturing and quality-control process, meet our watchmakers and test our latest releases. Let’s be clear that we do not expect a “sponsored” review of YEMA from your visit to our workshops but a fair and factual personal and above all informed opinion. We clearly understand that most watch passionates are tired of sponsored content and it’s important for media and reviewers to keep their editorial independence, else it won’t add value to them nor to brands. This is an opportunity for you to see the other side of the story so as to complete your overall independent opinion, please don’t think for a minute that this is just a way to influence you, you’re always free to think and say what you truly believe.
    All the best,
    YEMA Watches of France 🇫🇷

Hey Yema, how about providing bracelets that doesn't hang out the endlinks but drops down and wraps around one's wrists??? This has been a huge Negative for many would be buyers but there doesn't seem to be any change in sight? Can you listen to the critics about this and update to bracelets with female endlinks ?

I bought a Superman back when the current movement was the in house1000 series. Right out of the box it was losing 2 minutes every 3 or 4 days so I contacted Yema about the issue at which point they had me ship it back to them and as they had just updated to the 2000 series they installed one and sent the watch back to me along with the original 1000 which they had repaired and regulated so now after well over a year I have a very accurate watch AND an extra Yema 1000 series movement......FREE OF CHARGE, so at least I have no issues with their customer service!

My issue with Yema is their crap customer service. I bought the Rallye Andretti special edition from them during a sale and the watch showed up without the extras that were advertised, on a different strap, and with a mismatched buckle. When I reached out to ask them about it, they first told me that nothing was wrong but then I sent them pics of the watch compared to screen shots from their own website showing what should have been included and what I got. They not only refused to do anything about it--not send me the missing extras, not send me the right buckle, not send me the replacement strap, or offer any discount to compensate--but wouldn't even let me return it, claiming that their return policy didn't apply because the watch was a limited edition. They were awful and even though I'm still tempted by some of their stuff, I can't get over how they treated me.

How things can change! I bought my very first watch as a 7 year old with all my saved money (70 dutch guilders) and bought a Yema Meangraf. At that time Yema also made watches for children something you don't see a lot nowadays. Until today (53 years later) the watch runs perfectly on time (I wind it up once per month) and has never needed servicing. 10 years ago my wife gave me a vintage adult Meangraf which matches the child (mini 😂) version. This one has an automatic movement and up to today it also runs flawlessly. So my advice to anyone would be, buy a Yema vintage!

I’ve read a lot of bad things about them but did order the Superman GMT Pepsi and Superman GMT Batman (yeah, I know it sounds silly 😅) because they were in a irresitable sale. Both ran perfect and were flawless. Did sell the Batman after a while though because I didn’t wear it enough.
Once the Superman 500 was released I pre-ordered it and it’s an amazing watch. It’s quite the upgrade over the “classic” 300 series which the GMT’s were part of. Nothing bad to report on that one and it’s my “daily” so gets quite some (ab)use.

HERE'S A DIFFERENT POINT OF VIEW: - Yema make some visually stimulating pieces...I have bought several watches with both types of automatic movements (no GMT's). I recently purchased the latest 'blue-dial' Navygraf with the in-house movement. The watch is stunning in it's simplicity....and so dark blue it's almost black. Fast shipping - loyalty discount - No issues - I'm absolutely in love. I also have a Superman maxi-dial in blue - shortly after purchase, I realized this one was gaining about 5 mins every two weeks on the winder with the non-proprietary movement. I emailed Yema -- and they paid for shipping both ways and regulated it for me at no-charge. I had the watch back in two weeks (with a before and after timegrapher printout) and it now runs at +3 seconds per day. The service was exemplary....and easy. I also have a reverse panda Blue Tarmac Speedgraf with the sweeping second quartz movement. It's breath-takingly beautiful to look at, and it's perfect. I have only been buying Yema's since 2020, but am a Yema truther - I've never had a bad experience - and one more thing ....I asked them to swap the bracelet of the maxi-dial to the same one that the Navygraf had because I liked the 'h-link' style...They did it at no extra charge. Now I have my eye on the skin-diver with the scale bracelet...what an 'epicly' cool vintage inspired watch....Don't let the negative talk dissuade you.

With the crystal gives the actual thickness and how it will wear with a cuff, but if it's a domed or box crystal, the visual height won't be as big, so the thickness without the crystal gives an idea of how it visually looks on the wrist.

I have a Superman 39 with an SW200. I got it before the Yema 2000 was realeased. Most of their movement issues seemed to be with the ETA 2824, so I avoided it. I'm glad I did because I haven't had any problems to this point with it, and I haven't found any QC issues. I guess I got lucky! lol

Picked up a pre owned quartz Superman, would intermittently stop. Happy to discover warranty card was still valid, shipped to Yema and they fixed it up like new. So not great that the quartz movement had issues but very happy with the fixed up watch at the end. Took a while to service and send back.

But... the Yema2000 movement isn't new. It's been in their watches for years. Their big 'thing' of late has been their push to a micro-rotor movement that will (I'm sure) just as popular as their Yema 2000 and 3000 (GMT)... that is to say, nobody will know anything about it. Also the Superman's lug-to-lug is strangely long and the watch sits super weird and high on the wrist. It looks great in photos and even in videos but when you get it... it sits all wrong. And you're right: 39mm over the 41mm all day. The proportions on the 41mm are very awkward. That bezel lock thing is just a dumb gimmick, goofy to actually use (you have to unscrew the crown) and more than anything prevents me from actually trying to use the bezel. The whole Superman line is (imho) a big meh. I'm not sure why they're putting so much effort into reviving it.
I'm not a Yema hater - on the contrary I really want to love their watches. I've had the flygraf and still have my navygraf, and both of these are wonderful little compact watches that are beautifully crafted. They still sit a little high (it's a problem with their actual design - you can kind of see it in the 'blueprint' graphics on their site) and they use 19mm lug widths (gtfo with that terrible decision). That being said, though, they're nice little watches, especially if you can get them under the $5-600 mark (which you absolutely can now). These also have the Yema2000 movement in them, btw.

I been wanting to get a Yema for a long time. I love the vintage dive watch look on their watches. But I haven't pulled the trigger because I've seen comments of actual owners complain about them and some that love them. So I feel like it is a 50-50 Chance of being disappointed or not. I heard they have bad quality control on their crown and drain guard. I read from Yema that they fixed the problem....but there still that distrust. Great video Brosky.

My flygraf M2 from nov 2022 runs smoothly, had a 1-2 month break in for the movement yema2000, now it's running about +0s or sometimes +1s over a week (i let it alone on week end) the more you wear it the better the accuracy. I also noticed quite a difference between wearing it with a metal bracelet and a single strap, weirdly it's way more accurate with the metal bracelet than any pass-through strap, maybe there's an explaination to it, i don't know

i own a pair of Yema Superman Vintage watches, one with the classic Submarinar dial (who are we kidding it's been public domain for decades) and the blue sunburst model with the applied indices last year. Both have the Selita SW-200 movement and have been trouble free. With all the chatter from early in the Covid years, I've been leery buying a Yema with an in house movement, partly from the anecdotal horrow show experiences and with that burning question, can my local trained in Cologne Germany watchmaker be able to service the Y2000 and Y3000 movements, or do I have to send my in house movement Yema back to the French Juras for service?

I’m very much ok with the thickness measured to the bezel, because my cuff isn’t catching on a curved crystal. They usually say how thick the crystal is too. If it were 11mm with a 5mm dome (take my money NOW), it wouldn’t wear like a 16mm watch. Does that watch exist?? Comment below. Like and subscribe.

I have a few Yema's a few with the inhouse movement. Myself never had a problem. I have heard the valid complaints, the biggest bitch was customer service for repairs. My favorite Yema, was the simple older Navigraph. FWIW, Yema's don't sell for MSRP and they discount. Even more if you have a history. The new Superman does look good, but wouldn't buy it, don't need another. For the larger one, if you really like it. I wouldn't pay over $1kUS.

    Hey Jory,
I had to check the date on this video when I started watching it. Someone correct me if im wrong but hasn’t Yema been using this movement for years?
You have me questioning my sanity now, but im almii I st certain I had this in a Navygraf made in like 2020. I remember because the movement was terrible.
It had wild variations in accuracy depending on how wound the mainspring was. If you dared to wind it while it was running it would completely screw up the regulation.
Yema is a company that makes beautiful watches, but shoots themselves in the foot by trying to reinvent the wheel on their movements.
In house isn’t always better, I’d HAPPILY buy one of these with a Sellita or ETA movement, but I’ll never buy another watch with one of their in house movements again.
Can someone please fact check me? I swear this movement has been around forever….

Then you'll appreciate this story - came home from work one day and started a spirited tug of war with my son's 70-lb dog. About 5-min of wrist snapping I realize my prized Yema bronze GMT is being cycled through many g's worth of acceleration & deceleration. Time keeping accuracy went from +4 to +25s/day. I thought about sending it in, but instead kept the watch running for two weeks and it eventually settled back to +7s/day. The Superman 500 GMT I purchased recently runs < +10s/day, but all the rest are +15 to +20s/day. I don't care much. I have a quartz watch for accuracy. No reliability problems with the 4R movement Seikos, but I've not introduced either to the dog.

If I ship a product that was broken on arrival, I would do anything to make it right because it means that while it was in my possession, it was broken. Don't make the mistake of buying a Yema like I did. Would not recommend to anyone.
