Mouse wheel scroll problem fix.

  • If your computer mouse wheel is not working properly, rotates but won’t scroll on the screen. Feels kind of loose, sometimes scrolling, sometimes not, you can repair it yourself. I’ve tried to use WD-40, electronics cleaner, squeezing the rotary encoder, compressed air, but nothing worked for me. However, increasing the size of the mouse wheel shaft fixed the scroll problem. I’ve used a plumber’s tape, but you can use Duct tape, electrical tape, or any other tape to make the wheel a little thicker.

Excellent. Worked perfectly using Microporous Surgical Tape out of the first aid box. Great to have the scroll wheel back in action.

OMG, cannot believe it actually worked. I was just about to give up and start looking for a new wireless mouse because opening up the mouse and cleaning all the lint inside did not fix the problem. Had some plumber's tape on hand and used it as in the video, and now the scroll wheel works. Thanks a lot!

Thanks because your video encouraged me to try and fix my mouse insted of discard it. In my case, a wireless Genius, the encoder was rolling smooth, nothing seemed to be malfunctioning, so I decided to use a Wahl oil (yes, the electric hair clipper) on it, and it started working again from almost being unusable. Afterwards, I removed the excesss of oil and got back to work :)

my days of trying to fix my Razer Viper mini leads to cleaning dust from the wheel, to noticing the lack of resistant of the scroll wheel and ended w/ the same treatment. it seems like the wheel shaft being dislodged case the wheel to slip and lose contact why the scroll jumps back and forth. cool!

Went to try this on an Onn. mouse, but there are no visible screws on the bottom. The feet are plastic, and peeling back the corner damages the plastic, so I'm not sure if there are screws to remove underneath, meaning this fix might not be possible on models like this. Granted, the mouse itself costs about $12 these days, but I'm more annoyed by the disposal requirements of electronics than the costs of a new one.

Just now applied the teflon in the Dell KM5221W - perfect :-) ... but isn't in fact better in first case of this happen to GLUE IT ? but Loctite isnt good for plastic? Will see if it will survive...
(fact it I use the dell KM5221W combo only for 1 month probably, and have few spare sets here too, so I was surprised it wears out so quickly, there is some hexagonal or so connection....)
(or glue it immediately when NEW and NOT worn out at all?? ... btw the teflon stickers on bottom covering single screw are useless and mouse moves better without them on my desk)

I was thinking about the glue myself.
As long as the glue is kinda flexible, I think it should work. Because the wheel requires a little movement up and down. And a strong glue will inhibit it.
