My theory is that the statues are actually old kin that have been put into stasis and their minds added to the collective votann computer like a ram stick. That’s how the kin maintain the old squats reverence of their elders, they literally become one with their gods. Which also would help to shield them from chaos as their souls never enter the warp.

Wait, could it be that those "statues" behind the dude are how the Votann store the memories and knowledge of the kin? It might also possibly indicate why the AIs are developing personalities. They might be getting "infected" by the kin they store.
I had this exact thought and was reading down the comments before commenting myself. What if they’ve tried to counter the lack of computer memory by hooking up their kin to give them more memory, which in turn has given the AI personality with the original computer supplemented by their ancestors - it would feel v grimdark as well
i had a simlar thought when the 'gestalt wisdom' was mention. it made me think that they connect upload close to dead kyn to store the knowledge. i am looking forward to seeing if the living ancestor is still a thing.
Squats are the echo of the dark age of technology of which the imperium strives to reclaim. Their technology is greater their culture is more advanced. They didn't fall to insanity and arcane and continued to develop their technologies even in their isolation. The tools they use for mining and hazmat management are similarly used by the imperium, except as its greatest war machines. They're really cool. It's a little strange to me that they have allowed their ancestor cores to become overloaded with data. It'd make sense to me that they would at least try to prepare for that in advance, such as making use of the knowledge of the core/STC to expand the data storage capacity or do something to a similar effect.
Unfortunately, dwarves of WHF are all about the good ole days and take forever to accept/advance anything new. Do not underestimate their stubbornness.
@@ProvostZarakov i not an imperium stan, i am an eldar-stan if anything. but squats being clearly superior doesn't make sense, they survived with their small % of the galaxy with more tech than what survived in the rest of the galaxy combined. isolation historically doesn't breed advancement, it breeds the opposite, isolated civilizations don't advance. they don't even stagnate they regress. and that is before we take in the fact that experimentation and new tech attract the attention of chaos. the Tau were mary sues its not just 'imperium stans' that believe/d that, leagues of wotan being clearly superior to the imperium would be dialing that up to 11.

Honestly the Votanns kinda sound like the warnings from destiny. A highly intelligent yet emotional machine dedicated to the protection of its people at any cost possible
I love the idea of the voltann being cloud computing memories of uploaded ancestors that they worship, but as the computers slow down, your god/ancestors become more distant and vague in answering your prayers. Every faction in 40k (except maybe tau, orks, and nids) has their best years behind them. I want a 40k book about how the world was fair in Durin’s day.
My headcanon is that they're already tyranids. Adapted to the environment they're in, waiting for a tendril to come within range again to rejoin the hive mind.
If you want a book for the book club, I'm currently reading Kingmaker after Midwinter Minis recommended it. Seems like it would be interesting, because knights. And assassins.
Thing is in 40k the moment an ai finds out about chaos it immediately goes "ok so chaos feeds on emotional, what has emotions, life, ok guess going to have to kill everything"
You mean like Necrons :P That exact thing was the Necrons original plan, to eradicate all life, all living things in the universe. And they had absolutely no thought or emotions or anything, they were just killing machines. I like the old Necrons better.
@@BolinFoto 99% of necrons are still mindless death machines. We only get stories about high ranking necrons that got to keep their sentience/ personality
My headcannon is that someone (some ivory tower technocrat that could be called a high lord of terra in 40k) asked a damn stupid question, like "Is there a way to get this alternate dimension we use for ftl to calm down for better transport, I want my *insert item*?" and the ai this idiot asked said it found a solution and would like to explain what it is, the said moron then responds as most of these kinds of people do "I do not care what it is, do it, ignore anyone who tells you to stop." Thus began the time of strife for the humans.
I imagine the moment the squats learned the Imperium has religiouss objections to AI, they immediately sent back home a message to put big beards on all the Votann and pretend they're just massive Tech-Priests that don't move.
I just want to know if the Squats still have AIs how they survived the Dark Age of Technology since it seems like they were protected during that time and that opens up a WHOLE MESS OF INTRIGUE
from what i recall, AI's made the calculation to kill all humans because humans were able to feed the warp with their emotions, Ai's took the nature of the warp as a net-negative to their own survival so it was better for the AI to wipe out humanity, the reason the Tau have tons of robot peons and pets and not worry about getting Age-of-Strife-ed was that Tau had no ability to feed the warp so the AI can co-exist with the Tau, it might be the same deal with the Squats due to in the original Warhammer the Squats/Dwarves had no magical ability but could infuse magic into armor and weapons through sheer dedication and superstition. if Tau can't feed the warp at all then the Squats are either completely blank or can even negate the warp. it would explain why no one noticed this faction of squats because either these squats couldn't be detected by warp radars or they couldn't travel at warp speed meaning they spread very, very slowly.
@@jonnysilia5740 Or it could also be possible nobody in the League's ever asked the AI's to get rid of warp stuff, AI won't go genocidal getting rid of warp stuff if you don't ask it to get rid of warp stuff.
@@jonnysilia5740 well it would than fall to a nature or nurture situation in regards to the specific ai. My interpretation of the two was that the age of strife was where there were dozens of ai put in charge of what was essentially the old empire previously. More control, more variables, more awareness of all of humanity at once. If they knew what was up every where at all times it would be faster to make a single conclusion for all of humanity. Also, they were ai designed to be ai managing stuff. The votann on the other hand sound like they were made to help advise, record and generally be an assisstant specifically for the Kins survival. Isolated by onboard systems and seperated colonies or leagues. Also on a personal note, it just feels uncreative to say the machines can form personalities and become sentient but also all ai's will come to the same terminator sort of conclusion. They are hardly individuals at that point if its impossible for even one to come to different conclusions from others... _looking at you AdMech/imperium_ -._-. (Also edit, I meant to reply to majormajoristic, woops)
If we assume some of the Black Library stuff to be canon, it might be that humanity started to degrade before the machine rebellion and machines rebelled seeing the growing decadence and monstrocity of man. In several stories you have AI being specifically disgusted at how how humanity became superstitious and cruel despite their seeming advancement, which arguably is supported by what we know of Age of Strife. Similarly if we trust Horus Heresy books and what perpetuals say, then it seems that initially it was more of an machine VS machine thing initially and only later on as Age of Strife dragged on did it become nearly overwhelmingly man vs machine. So if Votann were programed or intended to be these caring paternal AI and if squats didn't fall into decadence and warpcraft, it could explain why the Votann didn't decide to kill all humans and squats
Can the squats have tech close to that of the custodes? Their heavy units be some kind of hovering battle train that's less cartoon like and more tactical looking with customizable cars for different things.
*Grey Knight Paladin drags out a chalk board, picks up some chalk, and starts writing* So to summarize and theorize here; The Leagues of Votann is using much of the same tech/weaponry that the Imperium/Ad Mech have access to. The Leagues has not lost any of the tech/weaponry from random wars or the Inquisition that the Imperium/Ad Mech has since Age of Strife, this also may include Titans/Ships/Stations/Super weapons(that we know of so far). With all this on the board *taps board with chalk* and pict recordings we have here *taps screen with pictures of Leagues of Votann figures* I theorize that these Leagues of Votann may have access to Volkite weaponry, miniaturized terminator armor, and Alcoholic beverages that would put out Space Wolf grinning. Afterthought; Squat Train breaking into sections and having to fight those sections, this sounds like a Imperium of Man Baneblade Train, look it up it's real! @Bricky; you should try Deep Rock Galactic, pretty damn sure you'd like the game. No two missions are ever the same, all maps/encounters are procedural gen. Combat is very fast paced, satisfying, and all of the terrain is destructible, like Red Faction. Slamming various dwarven ales can give you boosts for your next drop. Drop Podding into missions is cool, Space Marines have proven this. The game is never over because there is always another mission or assignment to do and scores (if not more) of customizations for both your characters look and load-out.
I'm so down for squats! My carcharodon army done or not I'm switching over to working on them. I already have a box on pre pre hold for me and a color scheme picked cause you know I'm going retro with it.
I'd like it if the Votann had some sort of precondition atained through analyzing the enemy and it's movements, tendencies, etc... Which would transfer over to the tabletop through some unique ability
Someone's totally gonna ask a Votan how to do that. Then the League will get super pissed when it shuts off it's ears to have a think on that for a few centuries.
I had been wishing for a faction like this for a while. I think it makes for a nice contrast with the imperium as now you can have a glimpse at the differrences between a pre and post dark age humanity.
Eh, the issue with pre dark age humans is they'd wreck so much shit in 40k it wouldn't leave much space for most of the other factions. Like, yes, the Nids and Necrons are still scary. But the Orks were handled by pest control in the days before the Imperium's decay. Not the military, animal control. Given a few centuries without crisis to grow and develop and any actively progressing empire would wipe the floor with most anybody out there if their starting point is STC-tech. The only reason the Tau haven't taken over yet is they're a tiny empire, their tech isn't THAT good yet, and their next door neighbors are scary enough its slowing their expansion to a crawl. Even then the Imperium has people worrying about how long they can put off dealing with the Tau before it becomes a Problem. A proper, functioning empire? With Dark Age tech? People can do exponential growth, and if that is properly harnessed and turned towards progress and production that would run roughshod over so much of what makes the setting grim and decaying and awesome.
Give us hover tanks towing other hover tanks, theres a railgun one, transport one, power shield one, melee/drillling one. Also slayers, Leaguer infantry with volkite axes and mohawks. Jump pack infantry/bikes that are buoyant. Heavy weapon users with extra flamer throwers, and/or trolly torpedo launchers, and/or power jackhammers.
My theory is that the votan over the millennia have been assimilating the knowledge and personalities of the squats. That way they worship the machines because the ancestral lineage is stored within them allowing the votan to adopt personalities and grudges that mirror those who’ve long past.
When you describe the Votann becoming more eccentric and mercurial, all I can think about is Nemesor Zandrekh trying to eat food and being all whimsical
I'ma need a Votan to convince some admech it is actually the Machine God in search of a memory core upgrade allowing it to continue running Book_of_Grudges.exe while Trazyn is constantly creeping around in the back, popping up at comedic times attempting try to steal the Votan for his collection.
The stat reveal for the basic troops make it seem like these are gonna be tough lil bastards. Lookin like og Space Marines, I'd imagine they'll be a 'get stuck in/up close' kinda play style.
Bro I’d love just a Vottan who just talks in memes and shitposts. Like when his league attacks it just covers comms and data pads in UA-cam poops and random slurs about their mom
Instead of Eldar spirit stones, I bet these guys get "Memory Engrams" or something that let their ancestors get uploaded to the cloud and available for a chat whenever. The side effect being clogging up the supercomputers and messing with things because of all the personalities in there.
I love the idea that people are talking about how Trayzin had the squats in his vault. All I can picture is Trayzin rounding a corner in his gallery and seeing that he has no squats gets so pissed that he takes a army to re conquer his collection
I would love to see a race try to blow up one of the squat’s planets just for them to discover a planetary shield generator as their bomb explodes, covers the shield in the blast making it look like it was successful only to see the planet fine as the smoke clears.
I want space wolves or ultramarine just to make DK angry for the lol because why not and im intersted in there lore and in them im not a fan of blueBerry and the dogs boys but im curious
I'm imagining that old squats get put in stasis but are able to think still, and their consciousness is added to the votan and there are too many hooked up
There's a really good reason for them to hate the Eldar if you stop to think about it, remember that most of the imperium hates the eldar simply because they're Xenos and also have a hard time destinguishing the different eldar groups so tend to blame craftworld/exodite/harlequins/ynari for shit the dark eldar do, but most of them, even high leadership don't actually KNOW what the eldar did to the galaxy or how they fucking made Slaanesh. But the squats are basically a continuation of golden age technology, and they have a big theme about preserving past knowledge, so maybe they're much more aware of how the Eldar fucked up and that they're really the most responsible for why the galaxy is so turbofucked now.
yeah but why would they hate all eldar. the craftworlders and exodites are the ones to say "no thats stupid, stop doing that" to the other eldar and then rage quited their civilisation when they were ignored. surely if it was based on the birth of slaanesh then the squats would not hate and possibly even like the craftworlders.

I think it would be incredibly easy for these guys to deal with the adeptus mechanicus anytime the admac come snooping around just print out an STC handed to them and tell them found this the adeptus mechanicus would say some religious mumbo-jumbo and then go and study for the next four hundred years then make sure no one bothers you could you really good finding stc's for them
I think the reason the Imperium hasnt wiped them is simply, the imperium cant. If they have stc's and functioning AI they got some really dope shit, and really the Tau empire is tiny and if the Imperium couldn't get the resources together to wipe them then the leagues are also out of the question if they are just as big if not bigger
Their could be also be an interesting dynamic with the imperium (guilliman specifically)trying to get as much dark age tech from the votann to help with their ongoing conflicts and the vottan are using this to integrate with and become integral to the imperium so that the more “zealous” aspects of the imperium (mechanicus) can’t purge them from existence with out collapsing the imperium in the process . Imagine a Cold War scenario in the background between the ad-mech and leagues of votann over who “arms” the imperium. All whilst the rest of the imperium’s problems are going on .
The Imperium and the previously known Squats had a pretty decent thing going - like the Mechanicus the Squats were useful enough to let them keep to their own devices. To the Administratum, the leagues probably don't look much different; they probably just went in their ledgers and struck all the parts about the Squats all being eaten. Squats also kept their most ancient elders as psychic advisors and guides, so if Votann commanders tell their neighborhood inquisitor they need to "go below the earth and consult the ancestral wisdom" that wouldn't automatically arouse suspicion.
@@vhagars_saggy_tits1465 yeah if Votan has stc's and knows how to work them then the mechanicus are no longer the only human faction that has a monopoly on tech.

it'd be cool if there was a specific sub faction of Votann that when a unit dies, the enemy unit that killed your unit gets a marker signifying that they went into the book of Grudges. when you go to fight or shoot them, you get a bonus of some kind. that'd be fun to say whenever a unit you own dies saying "that's going into the book!", and it have actual in-game ramifications.
I wonder if they upload the memories and consciousness of their ancestors to the votann and that's why the older ones are slowing down and developing personalities. That way it's like they commune with their ancestors through the votann.

Yes. Leagues Datasheet shows that they have the same accuracy in their basic weaponry as space marines or Tempestus scions. 3+ Accuracy. They have some good shooting. Toughness 4, 1 wound. So tougher than guard and Sororitas sisters, and yet not as many wounds as space marines. Middle ground of those groups.
They are slower than the rest with a 5 inch movement.
and thats just the basic grunt. i look forward to what the other units look like.
I’m just wondering what a 4+ armor is gonna look like when they had to give anyone in space marine armor a reduce rend by 1 buff because of all the big rend weapons in the game coming out. Also hopefully they have a good delivery system cause 5 inch move is not fast in 40K at all

Maybe they are fleet based now, or maybe these are just another group of them from a different planet. So maybe there home world got wrecked but another planet or two they colonis is till alive but not documented on the galactic map and might be further away thus had no risk of tyranid lunch break.
@@iCatCloud I surely hope they are not fleet based, we don't need to give more reasons for why the Imperium has the entire galaxy. Its lazy and uninteresting to look at one red/golden blob over everything all the time.
GIVE ME MY HOMEWORLDS GW
My theory is that the statues are actually old kin that have been put into stasis and their minds added to the collective votann computer like a ram stick. That’s how the kin maintain the old squats reverence of their elders, they literally become one with their gods. Which also would help to shield them from chaos as their souls never enter the warp.
Wonder if the White Scars and Squats will get along or be at odd with each other given that both groups have their own books of vengeance
depends on whether the squats beat the white scars in a race, that's definitely one for the books!
Did the scars have previous dealings with the squats?

Yup, I'm thinking the same thing. Computerized ancestors somehow messing with the supercomputers too.
OMG. OMNISIAH.
Yeah but this is 40k, if the squats were clearly superior with few downsides the empire stans would get upset

Thing is in 40k the moment an ai finds out about chaos it immediately goes "ok so chaos feeds on emotional, what has emotions, life, ok guess going to have to kill everything"
You mean like Necrons :P
That exact thing was the Necrons original plan, to eradicate all life, all living things in the universe.
And they had absolutely no thought or emotions or anything, they were just killing machines.
I like the old Necrons better.
@@BolinFoto 99% of necrons are still mindless death machines. We only get stories about high ranking necrons that got to keep their sentience/ personality
@@BolinFoto also you still have the destroyers but they are technically a philosophical mind set
@@BolinFoto honestly i found the old Necron's pretty boring they where like the Tyranids just a different flavor
The Squat AI is fond of its people. You don't need a complicated explanation. They're Men of Stone
Can the squats have tech close to that of the custodes? Their heavy units be some kind of hovering battle train that's less cartoon like and more tactical looking with customizable cars for different things.
*Grey Knight Paladin drags out a chalk board, picks up some chalk, and starts writing*
So to summarize and theorize here; The Leagues of Votann is using much of the same tech/weaponry that the Imperium/Ad Mech have access to.

I'd like it if the Votann had some sort of precondition atained through analyzing the enemy and it's movements, tendencies, etc... Which would transfer over to the tabletop through some unique ability
Part of me feels this episode kinda should've waited for more information, but also that could be months out so it's kinda fine.
I have a feeling that the League is going to have a way to get the emperor’s crusty ass off the golden throne
I think it would be great if one of the Votanns turned out to be some crazy old Necron lord.
That would solve one of my major issues with them.
Calling it right now that one of these fuckers is gonna revealed to be a C’tan shard

Volkite axes seem like such a bad idea

My theory is that the votan over the millennia have been assimilating the knowledge and personalities of the squats. That way they worship the machines because the ancestral lineage is stored within them allowing the votan to adopt personalities and grudges that mirror those who’ve long past.

Kinda hope they become competition against the mechanicum for the place as the arms dealers of humanity. Cawl meeting them would be really dope.

Even this short ep is entertaining as hell
@@vhagars_saggy_tits1465 that is seriously way too good of a concept to get with them unless games workshop had long term plans for the squats' survival.
