2018 Kia Forte Review - Garbage or Great?

  • I've had to replace my Saab as my daily driver and I will miss that power and style! This year has been too crazy, and I felt I needed a newer car to get me from Point A to Point B without drama. I may still be purchasing another 9-3 in the future, but for this video I wanted to tell you about the features of this practical economy car with a crazy warranty.

    Nice. I have two Kia Forte 2018 and they are the best value for the buck. I’ve had them for 3 years now and I still love them. Takes me to point A to point B with no problems. And a full tank of gas lasts me 14 days. Would not trade it for a more expensive car.

    Good complete review seems like a great compact car option that I may really consider.

    Nice straightforward, no-nonsense review. I was considering possibly trading up into one of these for most of the reasons you mentioned. It may not be quite as fancy as a comparable Honda, Toyota, or Mazda, but I like that it still uses a simple a multi-port fuel injected, non turbocharged engine and a conventional torque converter automatic transmission. When it comes to purchasing a compact economy car, I would rather not have to worry about all of the long-term potential maintenance issues associated with direct injection and CVT's.

    I have this in a manual transmission and I love it so far. My only complaint is that the sound system was woefully inadequate for my standards, lol, but I imagine that they have to cut costs somewhere, and it was simple enough for me to swap out the head unit and speakers and add a subwoofer.

    I really dig the subtly depressing piano tunes in the background.
    I swear I heard the exact same sort of jingle in my head upon my first visit to the KIA dealership too.
    We can't all be winners lads.

    After owning this car for over three years now, I think that your assessment of the engine and transmission and the steering were spot-on. I have this in a six speed manual transmission, and it’s clear driving it that it’s tuned for fairly brisk off the line acceleration, which is a real strength of the car. First and second gear have some real off the line power to them, the third through fifth gear have a good balance with a great range, and the sixth gear has very little power but is great for cruising on the highway which is what it’s designed for. This car is a great little value for the money in regards to the engine and transmission. The steering could be a little more responsive I think, but that’s not something that’s a major issue.

    If you get a 2015ish Kia Forte make sure it was manufactured in Korea or Japan and has the 1.8l engine. The ones manufactured in the USA or Mexico are complete garbage, and the 1.8 doesn't have the same problems as the larger engines that can be found in those models.

    Hi, we have a kia forte 2018 and its so good
    thanks for the review it helps a lot to know more about the car
    i have a little question , last days the ECO mode just turned on itself and we didnt know how to turn it off we tried everything ,
    then it turned off and the sport mode went on.
    we turned off the engine and then then turned it on and the SPORT mode went off.
    i went to google and searched about it then i knew that there is a button named "Drive Mode"but in our car there is no such as this button.
    we thought that it may be automaticle changes but all of the cars werent automatic so how our car is the only can that its automatic .
    i hope you read this and if you can help me by posting a video that shows how you did it !
    im asking coz your car is the same as our car and there is a lot of cars isnt the same but ours is !
    Thank you!

    Maybe its in my head - but I have the '18 S model and it seems like when I'm in sport mode, it has tighter steering and is more responsive. Eco mode seems to kill all power and I don't see much of a gain in gas mileage when using it. It struggles going through the mountains on 81 in the Christiansburg area. Saw the Koonz decal on the back, I got an '09 civic Si there awhile back - loved that car!

    • @rhynecars
      @rhynecars  3 роки тому +1

      You're not imagining it, the EPS has more resistance I. sport mode than in normal or eco mode. It will also shift later in the rpms and has more slip to give a sensation of more power and more aggressive throttle response.

    In 2022 our 2019 Kia Rio began to bellow white smoke that reeked of gasoline. After a little research I found that it had a fuel pump mounted to the valve train. Took car to dealer, and dealer said that warrenty was exceeded by mileage, and part not part of drive train, and not covered by drivetrain warrenty. New pump was going to be $1200.00 installed, and part backorder was going to be five weeks minimum. I asked if spun bearings due to gasoline in crankcase, and burning car were covered under drive train warrenty, and they hung up on me. Called corporate and they advised part was covered under drivetrain warrenty because contract is in owners manual which has no fine print whatsoever. For the sake of expediency I bought brand new pump from another manufacturer, for $150.00 which arrived in three days, and then spent ten minutes replacing pump. It has run fine until recently when Rio was stolen, and severely damaged when run over a curb whicvh broke engine from transmission plus window broken, column trashed, and wipers broken off because thief accidentally started wipers when breaking column to steal. Kia denied ever hearing of theft problem. Kia wqanted two hours troubleshooting to give estimate for repair. I said I already know what is wrong with car so just fix it. Then Kia at insisted we prepay repair bill before work began. I asked how they could possibly know what was wrong with car ahead of time, and that must be a new thiung where dealer wont fix car unless you prepay. Told wife to leave car at Kia dealer. Kia said they would have it towed away for being parked illegally. I called corporate who has brand new stolen Kia runaround line dedicated to irritating customers who have had their Kias stolen already, and they hung up on me. I called the Bureau of automotive repair filed complaint then they had me call the federal trade comission where I also filed complaint. Since my wife is Thai I called a local Los Angelus Thai language newspaper to see if they would do a survey of their Thai community who owned Kia cars, and they agreed (my wife knows the owner of the paper). Accidentally recieved phone call from Kia corporate in which they accidentally gave me a direct line right back to the woman who hung up on me. I called, and informed her of my actiopns. She said the whole thing is a misunderstanding on their part if I already had the insurance check in my hand, and NOW the dealership WOULD look at theft damaged car but my wife had to go in and sign a permission slip. Keep in mind Kia is required by a class action lawsuit to repair these cars, and pay all related expenses. My insurance company shouild not have to pay anything to anyone as Kia has been found responsible for fasiling to protect these cars from theft properly. My wife is making monthly payments on this car, and it has been damaged, and undriveable for three months as I write this causing us to buy another car. Considered renting one and backcharging Kia, but I am not an ass looking to make the reimbursement as expensive as possible for Kia, I just want them to fix it. They are dragging their feet at the customers expense, and are downright rude about it once you get them to stop lying. I have purchased two new Kia products lifetime, and will NEVER EVER buy another

    One of my tire sensors is broken so the light is stuck on all the time and the dealership says it's $100 to replace I don't want to pay that and i had one tire blow out had to have new tire put on but besides that no issues with the car. Have had it 10 months.

    • @rhynecars
      @rhynecars  2 роки тому

      Bummer! Since its not a warranty part, I would take it to Tire Discounters or Mr. Tire for the replacement. Unfortunately, the sensor replacement requires removing the tire. My guess is most places will charge about $50 for the sensor, then $25 to mount and balance the tire.

      I don't believe it is rated for towing more than 500 lb, it is limited by the transmission. If you add a aftermarket transmission cooler you might be able to tow more. The main limitation is keeping the transmission cool. At most I would only tow a two-person sleeper.
