- Fire was in a 1 & 2 story occupied former auto parts store. Steel gates and doors made entry into the building almost impossible. Master streams and big lines were deployed as the fire took the entire building.
I would like to meet the guy that installed their alarm system, that thing was still ringing when half the building collapsed.
And whoever put the door in. They never got it open from what I saw.
Definitely one of the more spectacular collapses caught on video. Thank god they were maintaining a collapse zone. That one seemed to come out of nowhere.
it looks like the second floor flashed just a fraction of a second before
Another proof of the Pizza Oven theory!! Brick outside, wood framing and combustibles inside. The fire burns hotter and hotter within until the composition of the bricks breaks down. “Kerplunk”, said building collapses hopefully not taking any lives with it!! Brick façade fires make me very nervous. This was an inferno! Great coverage.
I’m always amazed at how quickly looters can break into a building…but firefighters, with haligans, axes and power saws are stymied.
Numbers. And they're usually going straight through a window
Looters as a general rule don't go through the front door. As a firefighter I've found the front door usually the one that's fortified the most. Is e20 still on Clark ave. just down the street from there. In the 70's I lived in that area and knew e20 guys, good group.
Sometimes looters will take nights on end to create a entrance point, without smoke and fire to contend with!
Hmm, where did that old battering ram from the SWAT team get stored?
There is the factor that a looter is trying to break into A building. Firemen are trying to break into a particular building.
Great job Cleveland FD under some tough conditions trying to gain access!
Really great video coverage!!! I could see that collapse coming and was thinking how long it was going to take when a minute later it let go! I prime example of importance of the collapse rule!
Awesome vid, great job by the members but, I have a question hopefully someone can answer. If this is a second alarm job and there is that much manpower and machinery on scene, how big is the initial alarm assignment? I ask bc in my FD this would have gone 3rd alarm easy and with the collapse it would have been an automatic 4th.
3 engines 2 trucks, Squad, 2 chiefs on the box. Second alarm brings 2 more engines, 2 more Trucks ,one more Squad and another Chief.
So thankful nobody was injured when that first wall collapsed 🙏👨🚒❤️
@ Cleveland and Northeast Ohio Firefighting Video: Very good camera work! I'm impressed by how well your camera handles night lighting situations with very low grain. What make and model 4k camera are you using? I'm glad all the firefighters were safely far enough away from that wall when it collapsed. That building was a "goner" from the get-go, it seems. Was it still a functioning auto-repair shop when this fire happened, or was this building vacant?
He uses a Sony A7Riv
@@midnightsteve7502 Thank you for that info! No wonder the image quality is as good as it is - this is a "cutting-edge" full-sensor-frame camera. As good as my iPhone 13 Pro Max is, it can't compete with a full-sized professional camera with interchangeable lenses. Smartphones are great for their spur-of-the-moment convenience because we carry them around with us all the time, whereas we have to be prepared in advance to bring along a pro camera when covering a major event like this.
Amazing how obstinate fire is. All that water and it still burns. God bless fireman.
Lmao 👍 I blame it on piss poor parenting stupid fire should’ve been taught at an early age to respect the authority of water !!!
That was an awesome catch.
OMG the collapse, what was holding that building together? Stay safe.
My guess is that the roof plus wooden interior structural beams were holding the wall in place. Once enough of that internal structure was consumed by the flames, the wall collapsed. Very likely the wall was pushed outward by the roof above it when the structural wooden beams supporting the roof were consumed by the fire, causing the roof to fall into the building. EVERYTHING GAVE WAY ALL AT ONCE, with literally no advance warning. Experienced firefighters know this danger and keep a safe distance away from building fires like this.
wood
old building likely wood or weak roof structure
So pissed I missed this one I used to shop at Clark auto parts for decades back in the day when this was their main store
Outstanding video 👏 that was a hellish fire 🔥 ✌
Urban renewal. Glad no firefighters got injured. Stay brothers.
"Steel gates and doors made entry into the building almost impossible." The owner must have been more concerned about crime than fire.
Using the wrong tools for the job... they drove up in the right one
I work on the street in Garfield Hgts where the huge Magnesium fire took place in 2002 Google that it was catastrophic
I remember that one. I lived out in Warrensville Hts and those explosions sounded like they were just down the street.
I just subscribed from shockingguy great work this is what can called me HURLEY.
I have these set of videos called Cleveland Fires from the 90s and early 2000s. There are a number of spectacular 3-3-3, 4-4-4, and even 5-5 alarm fires on them. Does Cleveland Fire Department no longer have 3-3-3 alarm or higher assignments? I know the big fires are pretty rare now a days
They get more equipment on a box alarm than they used too. There was a 4th alarm in April. I believe it was for 5 or 6 houses going on a windy day.
Great camera work!
Thanks a lot!
Truck 20 will neef a new paint job for sure
Take one sided pics & post it for sale on Craigslist
Thoughts and prayers are with everyone
Matches & lighters for everyone
37 thousand pound vehicle connected to metal pole & instantly door is opened... wall for that matter
Good move not going in. In my 37 years paid firefighter I've been to at least 12 fires like this, all with nearly same results. I know my brothers are gung-ho on putting fire out and saving structure, but somebody would have to demo building, probably the city, so you save $$$ by "control burn". Fire goes out when combustibles are consumed. Great video!
Police departments have tactical units for certain situations maybe it's time for fire departments to have something similar like personnel trained in uses of c4 explosives to gain access to specific situations, saving time, lives and money
🤦♂️ C4!? 😳 .. just issue bazookas be safer wouldn’t have to get close to burning building .. eh!
@@jimdenney1428 if someone was trapped inside, I'm sure they would use chains and a truck to yank the bars and gates down
serious wall collapse at about 6:40 . old redbrick buildings are a problem. a lot of 'em still around.
Reading the smoke upon arrival, there wasn’t much that could be done with such a large, old commercial building like this. Defensive attack and protect exposures…And the lives of the firefighters!
6:30. The roof has now become the first floor. Yikes.
Clark auto I've been going there for over 30 year's one of best auto parts store around crying shame
Not much to with that one. My guess is holing back on 3rd alarm was a prudent conservation of assets. No lives at risk and a tsunami would not have saved that building. Wonder how it grew so fast and if it were arson.
Auto parts, garage etc. Years of oil, grease, spray paint, dust and heaven knows what else all over the place.
Well... I know arson was home at that time...
Was it too far gone when the first units got there or did they try to make a push?
yes
I just can't figure out why they leave the sirens going after they get to the fire. It can't help but add to the confusion.
PS God bless the fire fighters and their families.
rumor has it the alarm is still ringing to this day
Im kinda thinking that they knew it was a total loss within the 1st minute, just let it cook for a while 🤔
The building was loaded with junk. I think he even had boats stored in there.
I kept waiting for someone to spray some water on that truck parked right in front of the fire. Especially when the wall fell. I’ll bet the paint blistered.
Clark Auto sign. They moved some years ago a few blocks west
The chimney still worked
Is that the old Clark Auto Parts building ?
Collapse zone fella’s???
Truck 20 is going to need a new paint job fir sure
New sub ! Liked 🔥😊👍🙏🎉
Low water pressure??
And that was the end of that building! Hope that no one was hurt?
Hmmmm, why platform is not up?
Does anyone know what caused the explosion?
From what I found still no cause has been determined
And this is why collapse zones are established for defensive fires
Can someone please cut the wires to the alarm 🙉
curious why police allowing civis to stand so close to a working fire environment? here that would NOT be allowed at all....theyd be moved at least 2 blocks away.
In Vancouver that is what they do. No one can get close up to a fire.
firee service did a good job, but it looks like a struggle.
That could have gotten ugly fast with them wires.
Yeah...those phone lines are wicked dangerous
Phone wires are low voltage. It's electrical wires that are dangerous.
At least the foundation saved.
The building is gone protect all exposures. Then surround and drown
I notice one firefighter very prominent in the video without a turnout coat. in my career if you were on the fire ground without FULL PPE you would at the very least get a stern talking to.
👀 where'd you see him?
Wow good job filling
Nothing left but a chimney and a pile of ashes.
6:29. Holy crap!
Practice for everyone
