Sorry to hear of Gary's passing today. I had the 45 of this song as a 9 year old. Thanks for being part of the soundtrack of my 70s childhood. Godspeed on your journey across the astral plane. RIP.
Dream Weaver is so old and still futurist at the same time. Just like it was in the early 1970's when it was new. I feel like I lost a friend who spoke to us over the radio so many years ago. My heartfelt condolences to his family.
In 1977, I went out on my boat off the coast of the Florida keys for nice fishing trip. The engine failed and I was adrift for 6 days......the longest and scariest 6 days I ever experienced, specially the nights. This was the song that for some reason, I kept playing over and over till the batteries died, just 2 days before I was rescued by the Coast Guard. A horrifying experience to say the least. A few months later, my son, who was a musician, played at a local school for charity, he asked me to come see the performance and that he had a front row seat for me. I accepted, I always loved his music, he and his talented band had always performed beautifully. After playing a few songs, my son announces he has one last special song. There was silence for a few seconds, and then, familiar sounds emerge from the stage along with familiar images projected on a screen behind the band, images of my son and I during his childhood. As the music became intense, I realized he was playing "Dream Weaver". I listen and watched in tears as he sung, in absolute perfection. It was the most beautiful and emotional experience I have ever had, till date. On the very last image, as the song was coming to the end, it was a picture of him hugging me, in tears, when I arrive at the Coast Guard base during my rescue. On that image, words were superimposed, "Dad, you were never alone, I was your dream weaver" I cant begin or know how to explain what this song means to me.
omg, am so glad you were rescued! Your son is a direct tribute to you and your bond. This is a tear jerker for me. This song saved my life also but in other ways.

We would park high up on the mountain on the side of the road over looking Santa Rosa California and talk all night until the sun came up . I can’t get through this song without crying. Today is the birthday of the love of my life that I lost in 1976 too through a tragic death. I'm celebrating him tonight on his legacy page and this is the song I wanted to post for people to remember him. After all these years, I just can't get through it without crying. @martimasters7704 thank you so very much, he passed 6/20 peacefully. He is free from his pain. I miss him so much, but grateful he's in a better place. I will Love you forever my friend ❤
Except the 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's! Gotta love the 70's, though. Those you listen, feel, learn from and put ourselves into the music are so blessed! TS
This song encapsulates for me my last years growing up in Tehran, Iran (yes, that Iran!), in the late 70s. I would "borrow" my dad's shortwave radio and sneak up to the roof of our house on those hot summer nights. There, most all roofs are flat giving a great view of the night sky. I would lay on my sleeping bag with the radio as my dreamweaver train, slowly scanning frequencies from around the world while gazing deep into the starry sky. I recall coming across this song frequently and would always pause to listen to whole song. While tracking a satellite slowly drifting across the night sky, or catching a fleeting shooting star, my mind would weave dreams of magnificent things and I knew then that my heart was on fire, my soul was like a wheel turning and my love was alive.
@sploofmonkey incidentally, we moved to Halifax, NS when we left Iran in 1980. There, I joined the Canadian air force and met my wife. I never stopped looking at the night sky.
This song brings tears to my eyes when I hear it. When i was young me and my husband would take our two year old daughter to a park. We would ride the paddle boats and hear this song playing. I can close my eyes see us on those paddle boats with sun on our faces what a happy time in our lives. Now he has left us to be with our savior but i see him with me and my daughter everytime i hear this😊
I can't believe that we lost both Gary Wright and Steve Harwell on the same day 😢 💔 😢and they will be forever missed by all of us fans who grew up with both of them
This song, along with songs like 10cc’s ‘I’m Not In Love’ are verifications that I was truly to be lucky to be born when I was. Magnificent then and now. I’ve always said, I want to hear this song when I take my last breath.
The absolute best time of my life growing up in the 60s & 70s. The age of the greatest music in the history of our planet. And audio equipment. I definitely miss those decades.
@@dianabailey9728 music is universal and is to be shared by everyone, no matter what your race is and that's the way it should be! 💯one love for everybody ❤ 👏👏👏👏
I'm almost 0 and have always loved this song. In fact, I was at a record show a couple of weeks back and found the Dream Weaver LP for 2 bucks. It's pretty good.
I was 12 too, and had this 45 single. Played it over and over while my young mind drew pictures in my head from the ethereal music. Sure was a different time back then.
I was 13 years old when this came out . Brings back so many memories of going to my first dance and all the boys waiting to slow dance with the girls and this would be played. Pure Magic. See you on the otherside. RIP GARY WRIGHT and thank you for the sweet memories 🙏 .
Very sorry to hear about Mr Gary Wright passing away 😭😭😭'"dream weaver" most endearing songs I've ever heard in all my life it's now September 2023 and all I can hear is Gary's voice in my head I am overwhelmingly sorry Gary Wright rest in heavenly peace my beloved brethren in Jesus Christ prayers🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 to the family
When I was a kid, way, way back when tv stations actually went off the air overnight (anyone else remember that?), we had a local station in the midwest, that signed off with this song on Friday nights, which was actually during the wee hours of Saturday mornings. I felt like I was the only one still awake on Earth, except for the guy who played this song. The world, I think, was a better place when tv stations signed off overnight.
Yes! I agree with 100 %. Too much entertainment for people 24 hours day. It kinda sorta feels like the world is rushing straight to hell. Wow! how have our lives evolved? Hopefully for the better, but only time will tell. Don't want to rush to no prejudging of the outcome of our world. God is in charge of us and it!
My husband used to play this in his car on his 8 track when we were dating!! We just celebrated our 45th anniversary in March. Seems impossible so much time has gone by so fast.
8-tracks were such a great way to listen to music. I loved it when in the middle of your favorite song the tape would switch into your not so favorite song. That was so awesome. If only music could be in black and white and 8-trak.
@@jdmenendez873 Awww, thank you. You will, don't rush it. Time goes by all too quickly and you are left wondering how so many years have passed. Blessing to you and your lovely wife.
@@OlSgtLove Thank you. You too! We met right after I graduated. We didn't like each other at first, but then he grew on me and here we are today. Blessings to you.
It sucks that he recently passed away! Thank you Gary for a great song! Wherever you are, your music will still be loved! Prayers will be sent as well! RIP Gary Wright, April 26, 1943 - September 4, 2023. 😢😭🙏🙏
Sad news in the world of music. Gary Wright, the musical genius behind hits like "Dream Weaver" and "Love is Alive," has passed away after a courageous battle with Parkinson's. His timeless music will forever live on, touching the hearts of generations.
What a great song & great guy. Rip Gary Wright this was a special song one of my favs. You will be missed dearly. Blessing & Prayers to his family & everyone who loved this great freakin song ..❤😊😏😇
This song will never get old. Imagine 30 years from now someone discovering this gem and singing it at the top of their lungs in a flying car. Rest In Peace Gary Wright.
Give him a huge thank you and express our gratitude for his musical talent and contribution. Used to play "Really want to know you" for almost each new date I had back in college days. Have to say it went over very well. Thank Gary for that extra success as well. Lol!
Well, Gary just closed his eyes and climbed aboard the Dream Weaver train for the last time this morning. The man is gone, but his music will live forever. People always talk about this amazing song and Love is Alive, but I just loved the whole Light of Smiles album even though it never spawned a hit single. His pre-DW music was fantastic as well, including Spooky Tooth. I eventually bought his whole catalog, including his instrumental music from more recent years. RIP Dream Weaver. RIP.
This is one of my favorite songs, and it has to be one of the first ones I ever heard as a baby. My parents filled our house with music. I hope they are playing it in Heaven, right now. As per Gary Wright… 'Dream Weaver, I believe you can get me through the night...' was a song about someone with infinite compassion and love carrying us through the night of our trials and suffering. None other than God Himself." Amen 💜
I seriously doubt it's being played in heaven, because God and Rock are enemies. God and CHRISTIAN ROCK are even MORE enemies. But... I grew up with this song, too, and for the time we're here on this earth, there are some beautiful things thst don't belong to God, that we are blessed to enjoy. This song is one of those. Enjoy it now, because once we're crossed to the other side, you'll never hear it again. It's a product of time, not eternity.
Takes you to another world, where anything is possible. May you forever Rest In Peace Gary Wright. May the Dreamweaver weave it's silky threads around you and take you to a higher place.
The lights go down at the skating rink, the mirror ball shines dancing stars on rinks floor, dream weaver begins to play... I am in heaven, skating. I am young. Life is wonderful, exciting and still yet to be lived.... sigh....missing those sweet days.
Saw GW The Dream Weaver in San Diego Arena 1974 what a cool show especially when he played this song the crowd went craZy RIP GW thanks for all the great music 🎹 ✌️

Thank you Robert Martin, and bless you too. RIP our beloved Gary Wright. I am grateful to God for the talent you were blessed with, and for all of the precious memories listening to your music brings to us.🕊️❤️🙏
I totally agree with the other replies ,Why can’t we have music like that anymore? Can’t generations be at least similar to the ones before? Do they really have to be the way they are today?
NBC arena Honolulu Hawaii, opening song, wow!!!! Lazar lights, smoke!!!! My love is alive, then frampton..... blessed, truly!!! Those were so sweet times ....tears of memories and joys!!! Stay safe and GOD bless you!!!! 61 and still going!!!
Love this song it gives me Goosebumps every time I hear it I was only 5 or 6 years old when I heard this song and I fell in love with it then so yep I'm 56 going on 57 and still listening to this great song how can you not! ♥️
I was a teenager of 15 when this song came out. So many great songs singers, writers and bands during that era. It truly breaks my heart for the kids of today that they won't experience for the first time what the 1970's music did for us all back then. I was just watching the story of how 10cc created the song; I'm Not In Love. They had to mix 16 different vocal tracks, and it took them 3 days to get what they were looking for. It was something that had never been done before, and because the four of them were such great writers individually, after they released the song they split up. It was like a mountain peak that you'll never be fit enough to climb again. In my opinion Dream Weaver was just as good, and just as superbly unique. It was an act of genius on Gary Wright's part. We owe ALL the greats of that decade a debt of gratitude.
This song. Just takes my breath away. It takes me back. To the 70’s whole era. Just beautiful. Music. -----wonderful child hood --_ loving parents. ---great family siblings
Im an early 90s baby and I am so glad music like this exist. it shows me the definition of a true classic song. i feel like no matter the year a classic song is released it’ll always be relevant
I was just becoming of age when this was popular. Great memories flood my soul every time I hear it - my first car, my first trip to the beach with friends, my first serious girlfriend, and on and on. God, please bless Gary Wright as well as he blessed all of us with his wonderful music.
I was born in 1966 but to this day I love this song, I had three older brothers and they listened to this song and others during this time and from there I loved to listen to these beautiful, classic hits!!!!
Kiss these days don't even know what real music is 60 70s 80s even the 90s now that's rock and roll true true use it played by musicians that's right musicians you know people that play instruments and not rely on computers just don't know what you missed back then 🎸 real concerts double-sided concert shirts yeah those were the days!!!
That's right! Once the 70's were over, no one ever had access to that music again, we were born too late to hear it, it's all gone and only lives in the memories of those who were alive back then. You lucky bugs.
Gary Wright played on alot of George Harrison solo LPS... that's him on Ringo s it ain't easy / back off Boogaloo/ and Gary on piano on Nillsons with out you .. onto a higher realm now sail on Gary
There's a great article (I wish I could remember the magazine), on why the 1970s produced the greatest pop music describing it as a post-Beatles sweet spot. Hopefully you might be able to Google the article...
Good bye Gary. This song back in 1972 got me through a lot of painful times as a teenager. It has always stayed with me in my heart and I will miss your voice and your beautiful songs. I bought this record album when I was just 15 and still have it... I will cherish it forever. RIP Gary.
Excellent song grew up listening to this in 76 was 12 yrs old, tell my grandkids this Era was very beautiful music ,and in high school, now 59 yrs still listening.....
Yes! 8th grade! I remember when I lived in Palos Verdes, CA riding my skateboard down long, winding hills...this song always made me think of th ok se days.
I remember when I first heard this as a teenager with a part time job. A local radio station was playing a New Years Eve hit list in 1976 and when this song played, I was in total awe. It remains as one of my all-time favorites and definitely in my top 10. In fact, I would be hard pressed to deny it is my number 1 of all time. Thank you, Gary, for that great life moment. RIP man.
No, it was right on time. If it was ahead of its time it would sound like today's pop music...rubbish. This was just standard fare back then because there was so much good stuff. We could hardly keep up with it all at the time.
Hard to believe there was a time when you could turn on the radio and hear this coming out of the speakers. But of course, this was one of those songs you had to put on the big headphones, and lay down on the rug in the dark and listen by the light of the stereo. Good times.
My Marantz 4270 had beautiful green lights almost like the Northern lights and those Koss headphones would rattle Your fillings lose. God Bless You Friend
You can't make music like that anymore. Sad. but it seems imagination is dead nowadays. Time was I couldn't wait until the next Aerosmith or Kiss album. Damn I'm old and don't see anymore good stuff. Even the latest Styx concert in St. Charles sucked. Sorry, but where's the next band, without "YO YO YO" music?
Absolutely, I saw Gary Wright open for Peter Frampton in 1976. Peter Frampton was incredible and sounded great! Unfortunately, Gary Wright must have been having audio problems...music sounded good but he was monotone during every song.
I am. But I was so sure this song was from 1976 not 1972. I remember this song playing on the radio in 1976. Back then I would skateboard 4 one way miles to my 6th grade class. Very fond memories. And yes life as it is known was much better. Us kids enjoyed hanging around and socializing. I feel very sad for these new generations. Lonely with their pH and or tablet gadgets stuck to their hands all day and night.
Mary Rodriguez Well I am listening all my faves from my childhood and young adult years. Reminiscing of time gone by and to the friends that have also gone too. July 2019. I also thought this song was from 1976 too, I first heard it at the skating rink. I was 13 in 76. Yes the today kids are way different we did hangout together. I lived in SW Ga.
I have fallen to sleep with this song on a music list at bedtime for so many years... Slow danced in the sheets with it as well. Such a talented artist
"Dream Weaver" I've just closed my eyes again Climbed aboard the dream weaver train Driver, take away my worries of today And leave tomorrow behind Ooh, dream weaver I believe you can get me through the night Ooh, dream weaver I believe we can reach the morning light Fly me high through the starry skies Maybe to an astral plane Cross the highways of fantasy Help me to forget today's pain Ooh, dream weaver I believe you can get me through the night Ooh, dream weaver I believe we can reach the morning light Though the dawn may be coming soon There still may be some time Fly me away to the bright side of the moon And meet me on the other side Ooh, dream weaver I believe you can get me through the night Ooh, dream weaver I believe we can reach the morning light Dream weaver Dream weaver
Since I suffer from both depression and anxiety disorder and falling asleep is oftentimes difficult, hearing this song is extremely comforting because the lyrics relax me.
Im sorry to hear that you suffer from depression Brian. Hang in there and know that God loves you. And yes, thank goodness for good old music like this. I feel sorry for kids today, they missed it all, born too late.
you will also love his song, ' My Love is Alive' live version, also, a wonderful song is ' Somewhere over the Rainbow' by IZ official video is fine, he is awesome as well....
get yourself off all medications and start taking cannabis oil, either with THC or just CBD's , they will help you recover from it, get out in nature, and leave the city will also help, wake up to the reality of life will make it hard to deal with depression, but it will make it easier in the end
Omg I get chills when I hear this song.... brings back great memories.. when I was a child my sisters would listen to the radio when we would go to bed.. I miss those days.. this brings me to tears.. who else can share their childhood memories when you first heard this song
memories like no other music, at the time with the synthesizer, and these lyrics are real love the way your mind can pick up the memories like it was yesterday nice "MO"
Thank you Gary, for being a part of my growing up. I was 17, and had just moved away from home, when i first heard this song, and it was one of my favourites. I googled it this morning to help me go back to sleep, its so dream inducing, very relaxing. Still one of my favourites. Thank you Gary! Now you're making music with the angels, in heaven!

Except the 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's! Gotta love the 70's, though. Those you listen, feel, learn from and put ourselves into the music are so blessed! TS
Same here. This song came out when I was 7 years old and still love it today.
Very true.
Yes a great song I loved as a kid. Hopefully you’ll be able to see an Iran free from theocracy in our lifetime. Until then - Dream Weaver.
Fun times for sure ,, The 70s Were good Friends to me
Awesome story that as a life-long American by birth... I can't totally understand or appreciate as much as I should. Thanks so much
I liked your story. I think, perhaps you too were a dreamer. I hope you are well in mind, body and spirit.

RIP.

As per Gary Wright…
'Dream Weaver, I believe you can get me through the night...' was a song about someone with infinite compassion and love carrying us through the night of our trials and suffering. None other than God Himself."

Beautiful song and one of the top tunes of the 70's. RIP Gary. You will be missed. Your music will remain alive forever.🙏

And leave tomorrow behind
Ooh, dream weaver

Fly me high through the starry skies
Maybe to an astral plane
Cross the highways of fantasy
Help me to forget today's pain
Ooh, dream weaver
I believe you can get me through the night
Ooh, dream weaver
I believe we can reach the morning light
Though the dawn may be coming soon
There still may be some time
Fly me away to the bright side of the moon
And meet me on the other side
Ooh, dream weaver
I believe you can get me through the night

I believe we can reach the morning light
