One of my first lessons was to balance a large old Penny on the back of my right hand ,with long slow bows . If you like spread out fingers have a look at Alexei Korsakov .He had a perfect bow arm .His forefinger always stuck out a bit . a Seriously Russian style . For fast staccato you can forget about the small finger .
At 10.57 you see the exagerated angle of the back of the hand --just like a film of Jascha Heifetz (Playing Lalo ) with his squashed together fingers. So spread out fingers or squashed up fingers . Who can tell ?
My main problem is that my thumb slips and go through the loop while playing, because you are not supposed to have any tension in your hold. If I don't press my thumb into the wood it eventually slips and my whole bow hold goes downhill from there😢

My difficulty is that I’m a small person and my hands are very small so it’s hard to replicate the holds I see in videos.
