    Your fingers are so aligned on the string and don’t seem to be touching the nearby strings , I’m struggling with that. Question , do you keep the string pressed when playing nearby open string ?

    Your vibrato is not good. You are moving your lower arm when you should be moving your entire arm together. It not only looks wierd, but is inconsistent.

    I‘m using the Kreddle chinrest, as I found it the only one which is highly adjustable. It could be really expensive to find the right chinrest. Another problem with a high chinrest is to find a violin case, where the violin with mounted chinrest fits in. The higher the chinrest the more unlikely it will fit in regular cases. And you don‘t see what‘s going on in the inside when you close the lid, so you risk to get high pressure on chinrest and the violin.

    The SAS chinrest bracket ruined the side of two violas of colleagues I play with. Beware the upper part digs in easily, I tried it but it didn’t work on either violin or viola for me. I have two heights.

    Having a long neck. I first used the Kreddle height adjustable chin rest for a little over a year. The two things I did not like was the very small surface area and it was plastic. I have since switched over to a “Wave” chin rest. Each model, (there are several finish options to choose from), comes in three different height options. The company will let you try all three height options and you send back the two that do not work for you.

    Hi Eric thanks for your lessons! I start to learn violin on my own and my question is when it is time to start using your left hand? I'm playing on open strings only, I learn violin aprox. 3 weeks. I mean when it is time to move on? Without a tutor it is very difficult to realize that moment. Thanks.

    In romantic concerti, the shifting is meant to be heard. In baroque music, it should be barely heard. In your interpretation of this piece, I cant even tell that there is shifting (partita is baroque, so thats a good thing!) Incredible playing! Someday i hope to learn the preludio and gavotte en rondeau

    Great video Eric- I always think of string contact as the base knuckle tapping the finger down and releasing it back up. You mentioned weight from the upper arm as well- I don't think I do that and wonder if that isn't contributing to the strain I feel inside the elbow joint and along my forearm after I've played for a while.

    Just now I use Larsen steel A. Warm and strong. I have Pi, G. Dominant pro D (silver). Corelli Solea, medium E. ( very cheap, good sound , no whistling). Best compromise string I ever tried. I am not sure about to use Larsen Cannone strings for G and D ... They are at my place as cheap as Dominant! But ... well, medium Cannone, standard ....something to think about. But ... hmmm...

    A big difference for me as both interfaces are a mess to use on windows and following no defined standards for windows software users. Then, for throttling down playback speed to a particular level is a PIA in Sib 7 Ult. and in Muse4 a serious bug when you change the playback speed. That said, it is MUCH easier to use MS4's playback panel than Sibs mess of a playback tab. (to get past the well documented bug in Muse -> first to get to tempo throttle you have to undock the playback panel), then as you are playing if you change the tempo it makes the playback move erratically all over. To overcome that bug simply hit the spacebar to stop playback. Then click AGAIN on the note where you want to playback at the new tempo and you are good to go. That said, just remember every time you change playback speed you need to RECLICK where you are and everything works fine. 🙂

    I freshen up my rosin with a soldering iron, bow rosin works better than soldering rosin. A drop of rubbing alcohol will also tack up the rosin. Great trick for brand new bows.

    Your vibrato is not consistent. You are shaking your entire arm when you should be moving your finger which will also move your arm but in a controlled manner.

    AUER HAS A CURE. IF YOU PLACE ALL AT ONE TIME 1ST FINGER ON E. 2ND FINGER ON A. 3RD FINGER ON D. 4TH FINGER ON G. YOU WILL HAVE TO ROTATE ELBOW TO PROPER PLAYING POSITION. YOU FINGERS ARE LIKE THE FELT HAMMER ON A PIANO. THEY NEED TO BE ABOVE THE STRING BEING PLAYED HOLD FINGERS DOWN AT SAME TIME, LIFT ONE AT A TIME & STRIKE STRING. DO ALL FINGERS. THIS WILL PLACE FINGERS IN PROPER POSITION & STRENGTHEN THEM.

    Eric, do you ever check your intonation in 1st position with a tuner? And if you do are you always dead on with the tuner or do you find you are always having to slightly adjust your finger pad to get it dead on with the tuner? For instance on the A string in first position when playing B, C# and D, I am very rarely ever dead on with the tuner. Am I supposed to fix this so that I'm dead on?

    • @erictheviolinist
      @erictheviolinist 12 днів тому

      @@TNungesser I do, I always make sure that the finger is dead on. But I wouldn’t move the finger once it’s on the string. Be sure to take it off and put it back on again in tune.
