"This [Band-Maid] is how God intended rock and roll to be played." Quote of the century, Shaun. Quote of the century. How these five girls came about to do what they do is truly a miracle! I'm not a religious guy but, thank God for Band-Maid!

I'm pretty sure that the Labels have even more control in the East. But I feel you about the state of the industry in general. All they want is yes people willing to jump through flaming hoops constantly.
Miku is the embodiment of Kawaii! All you have to do is see he do her "Magic Time" bit and there will be no doubt.

And not only kawaii - very gracious and decent persons too, and I can proove it - for the Bochum concert last year, I had bring a little gift - custom guitar picks made for them, wrapped in the Band-maiko bag coming as a bonus with the Band-maiko CD. I had put it in the gift box during the meet-and-greet. In the middle of the concert, Miku asked the audience who owned this bag, and insist to return it to me because it is a collector item. How sweet! It has been filmed (and there's some other funny incidents here!) ua-cam.com/video/oZO4QYFEPK8/v-deo.html

West letting the music to hell...? 😆
Those maids are influenced by the music from West, and yet they have been embracing it for years to be true to their music.
We all miss the music we all have listened back in the days, I guess...

Consider this. From the 60's to the early 90's, most bands wrote or cowrote their own song's....on instruments. Now the industry has like five different people who create this bubblegum pop for too 40 radio.

In fact Band Maid is very "restringed" by their record company. Kanami once said most of their material was rejected or given back for corrections/changes. So, they used to write like 50-70 songs to make a 12-15 songs' album. Maybe the last 2 years it changed. I hope so.

Totally right about cookie cutter. The big wigs in the industry have taken over. And stardom, which sells and makes money, replaces musicianship. But it's up to the musicians to stop giving in to selling cheap music just to be a "star". The rock bands of the 60's, with some exceptions, loved making music. Beatles, Allman Brothers, Santana, Yes, Deep Purple, etc. And it's no coincidence that these women, under 30 years old, are influenced by those artists. So they're doing what American bands have stopped doing. Going deeper in finding the origins of great rock that existed before their own lives. That's dedication to their art. You yourself mentioned groups from the 90's. I'm 60+ years old but when I was playing in the 70's the band I was in checked out the big bands from the 40's and 50's. Drummers and horn players. Buddy Rich. It's what Ian Paice and Deep Purple did. That's appreciation of not only what happened in our lives, but what happened before we were born. So regardless of age a person should understand the history of a genre in full. They do. Leave it to the Japanese to take something Americans have discarded and run with it.

I appreciate that. I started becoming a musician in my mid teens, and had my first band in my late teens, early 20's. I was influenced by bands like Bon Jovi and Van Halen, but thanks to my parents, I grew up listening to Elvis, The Beatles, Neil Diamond, Kenny Rogers and all the bands that were popular from the birth of rock and roll through the 70's with bands like Iron Butterfly. I learned early on from reading everything I could find about my heroes that you always need to go back and listen to the that influenced your music icons, and I did. That's one of the reasons I have such a big vinyl collection, there are a lot of things that never made it on to CD, and honestly, vinyl sounds better to my ears anyway. :)
