Bart Baker Quit YouTube - Now He’s Trying To Get Big on the Chinese Internet

- Bart Baker, former UA-cam celebrity, starts off most mornings by screaming in mangled Chinese.
For the past few years, Bart’s bread and butter was edgy parody music videos, mocking stars like Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift. Good videos easily racked in tens of millions of views; a million views was a dud.
But when UA-cam started de-prioritizing vulgar videos in order to keep family-friendly advertisers happy, Bart’s income took a massive plunge.
So when he got a mysterious email from a company promising to catapult him to stardom in China, he figured he’d give it a shot. A few videos later, he had millions of followers, in a country he’d never even visited.
Now, Bart’s days start with live chat and song sessions with his millions of Chinese followers on Kwai, a Chinese social media app. Then, his Chinese manager sends him a Chinese song, which Bart translates into English, with the help of Google Translate. Hours later, Bart’s English version of the track is burning up the top ranks in Douyin (China’s version of TikTok).
Bart sees immense potential in the Chinese market, and has already announced that he is quitting UA-cam. Meanwhile, his Chinese manager is concerned that Bart’s American persona could be trouble in China, if it isn’t properly handled.
VICE News met with Bart Baker in Los Angeles, and his manager in Shanghai, to see if Bart’s path might be a way forward for other struggling UA-camrs.

Ceiling yeah like etika was mentally unwell and his the people around him couldn’t do enough to save him. With Bart though, he’s a guy that’s already not happy with his life as evident from the UA-cam vids and coming down this path he’s probably ended up in a contract in which he’s nothing more than a propaganda machine for clicks, and he’s aware of it, that’s probably tearing this man up from the inside out. But honestly what a turn of events, I remember watching this guys parodies all those years ago and I could have never even dreamed that he’d end up cornered into a life like this. Think about the $$$ - advertisers are less interested in adult-friendly content and there's no point for google to stain their reputation by allowing explicit content on their site to be monetized. The moderation of youtube is there so that they can squeeze profit out of the well behaved content creators, they don't care about you.

The job market in countries like China is very competitive and oversaturated. That's why most employees are treated like a product, not a person. And they don't complain because there are hundreds of people who could easily replace them.

I hope he does find his inspiration and dream soon again. Despite his parodies offending many, they were gifts to all of us when we needed humor in our lives, and now that he looks exhausted, he needs to find something that he’ll enjoy again. He’ll find a way; he’s Bart Baker after all.

His song translations are honestly pretty terrible though; as an ethnic Chinese (living in a democratic country), he uses literal translations and way too many syllables and it just ends up sounding like some bad parody from his original channel. Fame and money change people. These two things completely change your life, you have also new "friends" who come with all that and they are maybe the worst part of it all. They are just here because you are "cool" now but most of them are hypocrites, the moment you STUMBLE they leave you!!
You really need to be very very very strong mentally to survive in this world. And the thing is even if this lifestyle is very very hard, trust me not as fancy as it seems, it is almost impossible to get out. Once you tasted fame and money, no matter how depressed you can become because of it because it is very overwhelming, it will be hard to quit it. Bark Baker tasted this lifestyle, he swam in it but UA-cam was taking it from him so he did everything to not lose everything. Even going to China and doing something that makes him clearly miserable... That is truly truly sad. I remember I discovered him in 2010 or 2011... Now Bart Baker became a parody of himself. Which is ironic because if he didn't do parodies of people on youtube he wouldn't be in this situation. He made us laugh but all this success ... NOT a lot of people can handle and even the strongest struggle.

Interestingly fam, that's actually a rather common tactic amongst the worst record producers/managers. Basically, you make your client feel "worthless", so that they don't have the confidence to leave you. It's like; "I am only able to work because I work for him, nobody else will hire me because I'm "not good enough." It's really sad.

I'm shocked this guy quit UA-cam! Just started looking for his stuff again and couldn't figure out why his newest video is 2 years old! What a loss for us and UA-cam. Popular UA-camrs need some way to communicate and cut their own deals without being lumped in with everyone else. Agents should be able to help in these situations.

I became part of Bart's audience in 2022 by chance by clicking on a UA-cam recommendation. The parody videos of him are amazing! He has enormous potential and charisma! I wish I had known about him many years ago. He is one of my favorite youtubers now and I wish him well-being, happiness and the professional success he deserves.
On the other hand, his manager is a fool. Bart is perhaps replaceable in China by the mediocre content proposal from the same manager, but not in America (mainland) and in the rest of the world!!!
Well this is sad watching his parodies always helped me to find a reason to laugh.....I wish he finds a happy life😞
