  • The Gypsies or Romani are a nomadic ethnic group that roams the world, living in tents, speaking their own language, and maintaining their unique culture and traditions. In this short documentary, I want to talk about this ethnic group, their origins, history, culture, language, genetics, folklore, and much more.

I remember my mother has given them food, even some of our clothing that I and my brother grew out of it then when I came to America and have seen people from India, gypsy reminded me of the of the Indians look the way Indian people look they do favor them quite a bit

The term " Gypsy" is actually considered offensive to most Romani. The Roma can trace their ancestry to northern India. They are not to be confused with travellers of the British Isles - who call themselves " Gypsies." A young UA-camr, Florian, who is Romani gives accurate information on the Romani. Aside from genetics, language, and belief systems connect all Romani - groups in the British Isles who claim to be Gypsy, have a language related to Celtic.

The name Roma is insulting to Romanians and to Italians. So we will keep calling the gypsies, because that's what they are. Romanians are natives of Europe, whereas gypsies are of Indian origin

Gypsy never was offensive, but an high geographical error. The term derives from the "Egypcian", because in Modern Age some European intelectuals imaginate that these people was from Egypt. Now we know that they are from North-Western Hindustan . "Rom or Zingars" are best names, but Roma, and Romani for the language suggest the wrong idea that they are latinos like Romans.
Here in Brazil, they are named like "Ciganos". I'm fascinated by the unity beetwen these peoples. They never create problems with other groups, and keep an independent Culture !

Florian is not accurate, he makes a lot up, hes doing PR that's what PR is.
      l think you means sinta,
it has nothing to do with Britain or Celtic and lrish travellers call themselves Travellers, but speak english and Irish and sometimes find it legally useful, to demand ancient gypsy established rights, like holding horse fairs and living temporarily on land held in common since ancient times.

This documentary was very interesting. Thank you.
I'm from rural Ireland, now in my 7th decade and I was familiar and interactive with two "Travelling" groups:
    1) Tinkers ie Travelling Tin-smiths.
Genetic testing has determined that these Irish Travellers broke away from the main population circa 1000 years ago.
    2) Gypsies/Romany Groups that travelled throughout Ireland via the rural roads - mostly in bow shaped Carravans drawn by horses. I think that these Gypsies travelled throughout the islands of Ireland and Britain. They were primarily traders in goods and crafted items. The native Irish "Travellers" (the men) repaired and created vessels of Tin. They were very skilled in this work. The women gathered food and drinks from the farmers' wives (flour, milk etc) and took care of the children. These travellers were more likely to pitch tents in familiar locations than to have Caravans - though they did use horse - drawn carts.
Both Travellers and Gypsies frequented Horse Fairs to deal mostly in the White and Black Piedball breed of horse. Everthing has changed in Ireland now. We have lost much of our older Culture. Slán/Bye.

I was told the term Gypsy was derived from the people who left India, went through Egypt & on to Europe. These people clawed themselves Gypsies (from Egypt).
In Europe they call themselves Roma. Because of their nomadic lifestyle, they are discriminated. They cannot find employment & had no alternative but resort to stealing to feed their families.
People who are fortunate & well off should try to help the Roma/ Gypsy people.
God put us on this earth to love & care for each other & live in peace. Amen

Their clothing is more Arabic or Persian than Indian. There are still several nomadic tribes in Iran/Persia with a total population of 1.5 million nomads. I used to live in Iran and the clothing and jewelry as well as the beauty of the nomadic women always reminded me of the Gypsies who used to camp on the common ground near my home in southern England. Their horse-drawn painted caravans were wonderful! Years later I travelled around Afghanistan and found very similar paintings on handcarts, vans and trucks. Afghans and Persians look very much like the traditional Gypsies I met in the UK, but not particularly like Indians.

A romanticized fiction piece does not count as "the true hidden history". The history of gypsies was never hidden to begin with, and it has almost nothing to do with the romantic phantasies presented in this video, including the photos. As someone who was born and grew up in Romania, the country with most gypsies per capita in the world, i claim that i know a thing or two about them, as observed in my own life experience (i do have a half gypsy half brother) and also from the historic accounts and word of mouth. This video has almost nothing to do with reality, its mostly fiction. Sorry to break your romantic bubble, but phantasies like this dont do anyone any favor.

They migjt be the same as the asiatics that settled in Egypt in gosham, they got expelled and layer settled in canaan. Joseph in his multicoloured coat was one of them. Later their kingdom was split in 2. The north was samaria and south judea. It was the hebrews =habiru, the wondering nomads warriors that took over canaan and later europe. Thats why Spain used to be called Iberia and people of the south of Europe look more oriental from all the mixing.

By the way, I have rh negative blood and happy about it. I have heard about the 'golden blood', wonder if that is the blood that hospitals steal the moment baby with that sort of a blood is born. Just guessing that it might be the only reason why the kids 'needed transfusion'. Btw, that 'golden blood' is a fountain of youth - for the rich ones, ya know.

@hanac5751 If the mother has rh negative blood, and the father is rh positive, the first child is 'usually' OK. But with the next children, the mother develops antibodies against the child, if the child is rh positive. The rh negative and rh positive blood will destroy the baby's blood, and the baby will need to have a complete transfusion to clean out the old blood. Now, they have an injection (RhoGAM - was started to be used in 1968) that, they give the mother around the 4 or 5th month of pregnancy and another after birth. I was born before that time, so my older brother must have had rh negative blood, because there were no reacts to me ( 2nd child) with rh positive blood.

In 470 CE, White Huns from Central Asia raided the Taxila region in the north of Pakistan to loot, burn and perpetrate a genocide on the local and peace-loving Buddhist population. Those who escaped the massacre migrated to Iran and from there westward to Europe over time. They took their religion, social mores and language with them which prevented their assimilation into the local milieu. One can still find traces of Punjabi in their spoken language. Hinduism came much later to the north of what is now Pakistan. Because of the Hindu caste system, conversion to it was unacceptable.
