How to Annoy SMURFS | Overwatch Stories
Smurfing in Overwatch has been a problem for a really, really long time, but when Blizzard decided to stop updating the game in favour of Overwatch 2, things became a bit ridiculous.
What felt like every streamer under the sun was running Unranked to GM Challenges, whether educational or not, to scrape the bottom of the barrell for content.
Bored players who peaked on their mains seek to have fun by trolling on their smurfs whilst ranking up, much to the detriment of those who legitimately try to get better..
But it gets so much worse when those smurfs aren't stopping at just playing below their rank.. They start cheating. Is there a way to fight hackers on their smurfs or do you have to submit to an inevitable loss? That's what I am aiming to answer today. Enjoy!

The timing is coincidental too, I was against a cheating Widow yesterday in qp classic of all game modes, like imagine cheating in arcade instead of comp. Do you take submissions from non comp games? I'd be happy to submit the replay if so!
For the time being I only take submissions for ranked games!

@@epiczerozz3003 I felt really great after I saw 4 report messages coming in after I was against a cheating widow/mcree(who had aimbot and wallhack) and 3 teammates who where sooo incredibly toxic for no reason whatsoever other then me replying no. Then after being shouted at saying "I will not swap to Winston I rather play tank then respawn simulator." (Enemy had hog sigma mcree brig ana and widow) and they wanted me to go kill the cheating widow who stood in enemy team while other tank did not want to get off roadhog.
I got told I was deranking, I was bronze, I was a fkn idiot, I should uninstall etc.
After that game I reported the cheater and 3 teammates, closed game went for a smoke restarted game and 4 actions had been taken
Most people who say they saw a legit cheater in qp are wrong at least 99% of the time. Y’all clearly don’t know how much money cheaters spend to be able to cheat for a few days before they get their account closed, they certainly aren’t going to waste it making qp chads cry for a few days. They’ll cheat their way through ranked, convince themselves they’re anywhere near good, and then go do whatever else rich people do
technically if the person is cheating, don't really call him a smurf lol. Smurf is a good player, playing on a new account in lower ranked lobby, if the person is cheating, it's just a bad player on a new account.
I think its the fact that Blizzard has never even attempted to stop smurfing or even to make it more difficult that annoys me the most. They just don't care if it ruins the game, although to be fair ruining the game is something Blizzard are quite capable of doing on their own.
Jeff made his stance very clear when he declared that the matchmaker makes smurfs a non-issue.. That felt very disconnected from reality
@Every Woman Jobs To The Wall I would totally support doing that. If smurfs had to play that many games of quick play it would certainly put them off doing it. While people who wanna learn a new character can still do that in quick play if they wanted to.

@@isakdellmark9173 Even if they have to buy accounts at least you are forcing people to pay for the account. Which makes it more off putting. Blizzard could also require phone verification to play comp, but they would rather pretend Smurfs are not a problem.
I recently started smurfing myself as tank I'm 2700-2800 and for me it's just more enjoyable because I can relax a bit more not get instakilled when I have a roadhog on my team who can't hit a hook but we still need a maintank.
I realize that this might not make me popular, and I don't play in games lower then 2300 SR at most because that just seems unfair. I don't (hard)carry my team 90% of the games because that just feels wrong.
However when I do have a deranker in my game I will do my absolute best to win it for my teammates. I don't make fun of them, if people get upset because they feel robbed of SR I invite them to play the next game with me.
Also I only derank in groups who are made to derank and never in another que.
Yes I will try to win the game for my teammates but I won't instalock hog and kill 4 per fight nor do I want to. I just want to have fun playing different tanks and don't have to think as much about things because when I play I am probably already tired.
If I see someone get upset I tell them I'm sorry I don't mean to rob you of SR, come join me and I'll help you get the next win. If I see a obvious reason why we are winning like No1 is going for our dps on highground I will point that out after the game as a friendly tip if they would like to receive a tip.
I don't think the way I do it makes me a bad person, I have had allot of smurfs ruin my own games as well. Except I don't stomp on people, don't get upset/toxic and remain friendly. Obviously if they have a smurf of their own and I'm certain of it I'll tbag him every time he gets killed just for fun and because hopefully he will focus me instead of teammates.
In the end me turning my brain off partially makes me more like 2300 tank then 2500 or higher
"How do you annoy someone whos better than you" 99.9% of ow players dont know anybody better than them, they are gods and the team is the issue.

I don't mind the ones yeatle or ml7 do because they truly are very educational. Also they don't do repeats basically.
I mean, ML7's unranked to GM for support heroes is actually quite helpful.

Today I just couldn't win a single game due to the smurfs on the enemy team and new players on mine. I think it would be really good if they raised the level cap needed to play comp. It would make it more time consuming for smurfs to level up and it would also give new players more time to learn the basics of the game and learn how to play as a team. Also are the submissions for replays still open?

As someone who has only played overwatch for a few months, I have to ask. What are you talking about? Where outside of ranked could you possibly learn to play as a team? In arcade where everyone is a dps? Quick play where everyone dives and dies one by one?
Comp is the only place where I actually feel like I'm playing the game
@@philistine3260 well there is always the chance to group up with random people and get criticism that way in quick play without being flamed for ruining or throwing the game.
But what we are going at is if we raise the lvl requirement it would take smurfs more effort to lvl up to comp lvl requirements to then just continue playing comp.
@@philistine3260 some people have literally no idea what they are doing while playing in comp, like actually no clue. Some of them play heroes for the first time they have never played before.
Also if the level cap was higher people would have more experience/awareness in the game and maybe better aim. Maybe a Dva learns to matrix roadhog when he hooks someone, a ana to not just yeet her sleep and nade when they got flankers etc.
If you let a new person who has just gotten lvl 25 do comp with no idea what he is doing he's going to end up in bronze or silver.
I don't think he will learn allot in bronze, in silver he learns that medals are important. In gold he gets told rein why the hell are you standing still, move your ass. In plat he learns 1 wrong charge and he gets instakilled or antied or slept.

Dude, this Plat game looks exactly like every competitive Silver/Gold match since this new season started...too many Smurfs, cheaters, and for the first time in 6 years I finally experienced throwers and leavers
Then I'd say you have been lucky because usually when I played in silver/gold i have them every 6 games orso at most

9:18 An easy way to get the hero on the blue team every time is to go into visual settings and you can change the colours used for different teams (you can choose between a variety of colours, but in this case you can just swap them around and it should also work in the replay, I think)

he's talking about abilites I think, the options thingy just changes the Ui but shields, projectiles would still be red if im not wrong x)
@@mpld8057 They shouldn't I think because I have friends who play with weird colour combinations and the abilities show up in those colours in-game, but maybe replay is just completely dumb and doesn't work the same for some reason
I tried doing that and for some reason it wouldn’t work with blue and red. I had to make people orange and purple so that everything would be weird.

For real tho, if you want to go the extra mile do the following:
1.) Always tbag
2.) Always "?" after they die
3.) "ez" or "smurf lost kekw" at the end of game if they lost
4.) Add them after game and just spam "BAD SMURF BAD SMURF BAD SMURF" in chat no matter if they wont or lost (given they accept friend request)
5.) Use the most annoying pick for the given map (e.g: Junkrat on Anubis defense)

I'd thought it was just your accent, but, in truth, the reason I couldn't understand certain things... was that I didn't know some of the terms you said, so my brain just filled in gibberish, XD. For example: "the thirst for SR." SR didn't even begin to register in my brain.
I faced a smurf tracer/widow once. I am a D.Va main so I am well equipped to deal with both. Peeled all game and then at the end when we won, the smurf tried to claim they weren’t trying 🙄😂

On the last day of the season I was one game off of hitting diamond(i should have already gotten it but I ended up getting 5 Sr for a win) for the first time and ran into a smurf doomfist who was also a one trick. When I called him out he sat in spawn and spammed emotes causing a loss which led me to never getting close to diamond again with only a day left. And as luck would have it I ran into him the second day of the new season on the enemy team under the same name but a new account while I was doing dps placements and made his life hell dropping 40 elims and 19k damage and constantly killing him of making him run away with his mercy pocket. Needless to say it felt pretty damn good

Smurfs have always been a problem, even in quickplay and arcade, but I've noticed a huge influx of them in the past month. I've seen _a lot_ of low level bronze players who seem to have perfect knowledge of their heroes and have insane accuracy. I've even seen a few with gold weapons, despite the suspiciously low amount of game time.

I don't mind legit smurfs in my games. Just as long they are trying to get heck out of my rank.
Usuall Cheating variety just roll people without any issues and the legit aimers just tilt the heck out if the game isn't going well and just throw because their team isn't good enough.

so weird seeing 2 tanks
So we were doing this season's placements either this or at the last minute last season where our friend we going to call Digi were queuing DPS in comp and was accused of being a smurf. Which I quickly replied with "you just fueled his ego good job"
This is his second overwatch account before he lost his old one and he plays a lot of fps games bunch of sniping soo he can hit his shots. But he placed plat in DPS after being carried partly. He would place minimum gold. Placed plat support which he did deserve. He did admit that if he qued by himself he wouldn't have placed this high. Yet to finish tank.
So when I started test playing on my Bf account to see if I liked overwatch before he bought me it. I got called a smurf. Which my question is do you count as a smurf when a player who's never played before uses an account that's already level 300?
My smartest decision was avoiding comp like the plague and didn't try it until I got my first star plus a lot of convincing my self-loathing that I'm not utterly garage. I ended up placing gold in everything.
I get called a smurf because I used to be high plat on all roles and now I'm gold because I don't play as much

For the vast majority of them, it's not even about some weird unranked to GM challenge, they just seem to enjoy the thrill of crushing lower ranked player. As pathetic as that is.
I Smurf a lot because I get frustrated with my rank because the characters I like to play get countered really easy in higher ranks. It’s just very satisfying to get a 4k+ on widow regardless of the rank.

only one smurf my dps went down to silver because of smurfs and down there you face mini teams of smurfs their not usually gm smurfs but mid\high diamond smurfs and the pure silver teams im put on cant stop blaming each other long enough to try to put up a fight

i love all of these kids calling this guy a smurf in these comments. He's not a smurf, he's just a cheater on a level 30 account. Being a low level does not mean your smurfing and this dudes piss poor reaction time and positioning against dive heroes shows that he probably isn't even good enough to be in plat legit, much less be someone from a higher rank that's cheating

Imo it's fair that they gotta climb all the way to that rank. However what I do hate is people smurfing like incredibly above the SR they are playing in and they are doing it intentionally. Like gm or master's in silver/gold/plat. Diamonds in silver etc.

i'm kinda new to ACTUALLY playing overwatch. i tried to play in 2016 but my shitty laptop couldn't handle it. finally got it in 2020. i'm stuck in bronze because of smurfs. they're ALWAYS Junkrat for some reason, and it's starting to make me hate him LMAO. whenever i notice a smurf acc, i just feel this unyielding passion in my bones that tells me we CANT lose. like we CANT let this loser win as if we're just their puppets to play around with when they're bored, y'know?
The problem, is that there are like 3 smurfs, per game... and they're spread randomly between the teams, which really REALLY messes up the ranking balance, and just causes people to be misplaced into ranks they don't belong in.
That's why every rank from diamond and below, looks identical nowadays... it's just a fkin free-for-all.

Yeah to an extent smurfs are annoying but most smurfs are mid diamond or low masters and if you’re not good enough to deal with them in season 32 you’re not ready mechanically to climb. You don’t actually get better playing with people that are your skill level if you’re not atleast 3300 because you’re honestly just playing glorified qp
I will say this in console it’s free to make new accounts so Smurfs are a bigger issue. But honestly the smurfing issues made me much better a lot quicker I’m not saying smurfing is alright but it will get you better quicker then playing players your rank if their not 2 plus ranks above you
