    Didn't realize this was hitting algorithm again. Here are the changes for Season 1 of OW2 (October 2022 Edit)
    Overhealth (Green): 100% -> 50% ult charge granted from damage dealt to it (That's a buff to Overhealth)
    Armor (Yellow): Now grants damage reduction property on the armored portion only instead of the entire HP bar (That's a NERF to armor)

      @@Chicken_Pro_76 console too, you just play with pc players so it puts you at a slight disadvantage when you scrim against pc players. But we do have other console players in the Overwatch program

    Also important to know: in OW1 you could hack temporary shields. In OW2 you can’t hack overhealth. So no use in EMP’ing sound barrier anymore

      Doesn’t sombras ult now do 40% health damage now? That could still be at least somewhat useful against sound barrier

      @@wha7does7hefox99 It is 40% health but if you have sound barrier then it'll do 40% of your health with that barrier, so unless you wait till it's over you're really only getting rid of the barrier.

    Thank you for mentioning the 45 hps that Zen can receive after 3 seconds of not taking damage. It means that Zen has less downtime when peeking corners to attempt a kill without the need for a heal from the other support; they both can spend more time helping their teammates and/or clicking on bad guys. I'm intrigued to see how this buffs him in a broader range of scenarios and how it can change the outcome of some encounters.

      I acaullty had no idea Zen's shield was even affected by the support passive so i thought he just got like no benfit from it.

      No, the 1 less tank really hurt zen since zen have 0 mobility or get off me tool, you really have to just outplay the shit out of divers and assassins or have ur teammates baby sit you

    Overhealth not giving ult charge is a huge buff. Before, when deciding between shooting vs waiting for temp HP to decay, ult charge would at least make shooting worth it. now, unless you're confident on being able to burst through it, it's rarely worth it.

      Also you're not being punished for engaging a little more aggresively by consequentially feeding more ult charge. Though that seems minuscule

      for real. half of ur hp taking 30% less damage, THEN an ability that gives a bit of overhealth, reduces all damage by 50% now in 2023, and cant be headshotted... shooting at her might as well be worse than shooting a sym wall

      Fortify and armor being damage reductions more than doubles the effectively healing Orisa recieves.

    I’m very happy. This means that now when wrecking ball charges into all the enemies and uses the overhealth, he won’t be a way for all the enemies attacking him to just get free ult charge.

    Great changes. Having a convoluted health system and not explaining it in-game makes things feel off and unintuitive compared to other FPS games. They need to keep it simple and transparent if they want to compete with the big boys.

      @@gagemestro4089 There isn't an explanation in the current game. At least not one a regular player is exposed to. The whole system is obfuscated and it's the ONLY blizzard game where this happens. WoW tells you exactly what block rating is and does, in the tooltip.
      I'm really disappointed in the execution of OW2.

    3rd line - percentage change in damage going from OW1 to OW2. X axis represents original damage, Y axis represents % change in damage

    KarQ, like always, this was an extremely helpful and informative video. I had no idea how armor worked in ow 1 and I would have had no idea how it worked in ow2 but for your video. so thank you for everything you do for the community! your job doesn't pay enough to fully compensate you for the service you provide to all of us.
    that being said, the "look at this graph" meme, delivered so seriously, was my favorite part of the video LUL that was so perfectly placed

    Since Mercy doesn't have any other accelerating healing effect outside of the passive, it seems like her healing and sustain is weaker than all the other supports.

      Mercy still has her own passive of sorts, which buffs the Support passive’s regen rate

      @@TheDangerNoodle That's what I mean. All the other supports have ways of dramatically accelerating that passive healing. Even though hers is a little faster than normal, everybody else can have much more burst self healing.

      @@cfriesen222 the only character who can accelerate the passive healing without using cooldowns is Lucio and *technically* Zen because he has shield regen. And while Lucio’s is slightly stronger than Mercy’s (his additional seld healing doesnt require the 3s no damage buffer, and heals ~12hp/s last I checked) he can still only heal when on the healing boost Crossfade song, and any good Lucio knows that the speed boost is just as important to use, so he naturally gets less value from his self healing than he could.

    Funny how Brig is in the thumbnail, since armor was her thing but has been slowly but surely being removed from her kit and hero uniqueness. Now the only armor she has is in her healthbar , and when she is basically full.
    Her rally is trash as overhealth. It's a budget sound barrier, not good for attack nor defense.

      i havent played ow2, but i hope it gives a lot of health, or they increase it, or revert back to armor even if it needs to be nerfed to be fair. especially how slow everyone says the ults charge. take forever to get her ult and then its useless would suck. (im not a brig main either)

    My question is why doesn't the game tell you all this? Why did I have to look this up just to get basic information required to play the game at all. I had no idea why Sigma for example was regenerating health randomly, or why half of my health was orange as Reinhardt

      I vaguely remember years ago in ow1 (like at release or during beta) there was a brief explanation for it. Don’t know why they would remove that. Maybe I’m just misremembering.

    just an heads up that armor no longer mitigates 30% damage to your whole healthbar , instead it mitigates 30% damage only to the armor proportion to your health . so a Reinhardt Pin will kill Brigitte now.

    as someone who's new to fast paced shooters (I used to play paladins, but eh) especially ow2 since it released free, your videos are so dang helpful!
    I know the importance of this stuff since ive played quite a few competitive shooters at high elos like CSGO, valorant, apex etc.
    so I do know the fact that I will need a lot of theoretical knowledge so I can build my gamesense, but I did not know exactly what to search for.
    but you'd consistent guides have been helping out so much! I'm grateful.

      Nice, keep in mind they reworked armour now it applies the %30 damage reduction only to the armoured portion of the hp bar

    Armour in ow1 is only hard to understand if you choose to explain in an unnecessarily complicated way. It reduces damage by half up to a reduction of 5 per hit. That's it.

      Still weirdly convoluted for little to no reason, like why is armor only reducing damage over 10 by 5? Like that’s so little and kinda a dumb calc. Granted it’s not complicated it’s just weird

      @@FireDarkNinja yeah fair. I like the new system, it feels more balanced, and it's simpler. I would speculate the old system was based on the philosophy that armour should be very good at mitigating chip damage while allowing burst damage remain as effective.

      @@Rio-un5jl I mean sort of but no matter what armour will always reduce damage a significant amount especially futuristic special armor, like a 308. round to a Kevlar chest plate is gonna fucking hurt and maybe kill but it’s gonna be more than 5 damage.

      @@FireDarkNinja i agree armour should always reduce damage, but whats lost on this system, and the entire point of armor in most games is that it protects you well vs non-AP weapons, but not that well vs AP weapons. Now everything is equally AP in the game. Its just glorified health now, thats more efficient at getting healed, no gameplay difference other than that.

      This would honestly make alot of sense for characters like Bastion or Orisa. It could possibly even work for Junker Queen if she ever becomes a playable character? (Since she's the Queen of a town literally filled with junk/scraps xD)

      @@xickyr1611 The only issue I’d see with that is that, from a lore perspective, even machines like bastion wouldn’t be pure armor because the idea is that as you damage them, they’re exterior/more protective layer is destroyed leaving core components that can’t be inherently armored more exposed. Having a full armor unit would imply even at the most internal structures of the unit, that those parts would still be completely armored as well, which just wouldn’t really make sense.

    the colors for armor & overhealth aren't particularly friendly for red-green colorblind folk that would otherwise not need to use a color setting. hopefully there's a way to tweak the colors for each of those things

      as a person who is not color blind, i think the colors stand out and they make sense intuitively. overwatch has colorblind settings, and since there are more non-colorblind people than colorblind, it's only logical that the colorblind people are the ones who should have to adapt and use the settings

    ok, it may be easyer to read now, but Armor makes absolutely no sense now. The whole point was that your armor reduces low damage values but any greater attack would be pirceing trough the armor. Now it's just health that has a too small number.

      Overload should get an overheal amount buff. Brig ult should provide an aoe damage resist (like 15%) so that it isn’t competing with sound barrier for overheal support ult

      @@aestheticsock8772 problem with that is every tiny hitbox heroes like widow , baby dva ,etc. are not taking as much damage cause the spread is too wide. So they are dodging death at point blank. The opposite happens to big hitbox heroes like tanks, torb, mei, bastion, etc. I get that his role is to kill tanks , but since there’s only 1 tank to eliminate, the last 4 heroes are mostly all tiny and if they are long range heroes , well good luck getting to them before they kill you.

    OW 2 overhealth is a good improvement, but with orisas fortify with it looks op, +125 health and a damage reduction, I get she’s chunky but it’s like she is made out of titanium.     Brig's Rally feels absolutely broken now that you dont have armor. It was great at initiating fights but now it just feels like it's only good for if your whole team needs some quick burst heals as you won't actually survive a push on Rally. They need to buff the Rally or change it completely. Of course, i'm sure Rally feels fine for people who are in groups but solo queueing is a mess.

      Even in groups it’s weak. Heals slow, and if you’re pushing, you’re probably not gaining any over health. Just feels like a way, way worse Sound Barrier.

    OW2 is really good but I think they did nothing for support. Ult takes forever to build, you have one tank and usually ball and doom gives zero f about teams unless they are low and crying. They need to do something for support roles. Oh and yeah the support queue is 1 min and others are 5. That explains why people don't want to play support now.

      It's the first beta things can and will change throughout.the support passive is really good especially for brig as putting shield up and blocking damage actually causes the game to consider you out of combat which means the 15 hp per second passive heal will kick in. Supports still require tweaking I think they should all have some sort of escape at a minimum and they should revert the sleep dart cooldown

    I get that they wanted to make it simpler and that rally is super good and the best support ult in ow 1…. But still making brig and torb now grant overshields is such a huge nerf to two characters who are already struggling in the upcoming meta of overwatch 2

    Why are they the colors of the 4 attack-types in undertale?

    Health=normal white attacks

    I remember a few years ago, back when new heroes were still being released for OV1, and before Apex was released, coming up with an idea for a support hero. I didn't finish working out the numbers for their fire rate or damage, but they essentially had an energy-based assault rifle (think soldier and baptise's guns), which while having a lower damage, could be overclocked to fire faster, give shots to direct health (not armour or shields) a fire dot, and ignore armour's damage reduction as it just melts through it... but was weaker against shields (both shield health and deployed energy shields). However, after overclocking, it would need to cool down, taking twice as long as their normal reloads would.
    I also gave them an ultimate that deployed a little hovering drone that either: gave all teammates a temporary shield similar to Rally's armour, strengthened existing shields, or let all shields regen even while taking damage. (I couldn't decide on which it should be.)
    That's as far as I got. I originally thought of their rifle's energy shots to partially restore all shields similar to Ana's shots to health, but make it indiscriminate, restoring even your opponent's shields.... but that would enable a lot of trolling.....

    Important to note that because of the damage reduction producing what is essentially a flat health boost, armor also technically heals faster because you're restore more overall health while healing armor. Its why orisa pockets feel so unkillable; most of her health is armor, so even a modest heal like a zen orb healing orisa's armor with fortify active jumps the heal rate from 30 hps all the way up to 78, over doubling it.

    9:20 I love how people mention Moira's Orb doing 200 damage, as though it's unfair. But, what none of those experienced players seem to be considering is that just like Ashe's dynamite with the 150 dmg (50 from the bang, 100 DoT), that damage isn't instant, it takes time. Enough time that the character being damaged can run for a HP-pack or get healed, if their healer pays attention, or one of their abilities that they can use to mitigate or cancel the effect with has time to cool down, so they can avoid taking the max damage.
    Now, 76 and a few other characters who have offensive abilities with "only" a 120 dmg, apply that damage INSTANTLY, which is what's really annoying about 76's Helix Rocket, in particular. He can just pop it off, between regular bursts, without barely any real visual cue and hit you mid-duel, then, fire one more burst (or vice-versa, start with the Helix Rocket and then finish with a burst) and eliminate you in no-seconds flat. Then you're left blinking there, wondering how he killed you in a blink of an eye, on full HP. Then you watch their kill-cam and you see he used a Helix Rocket to take most of your HP, to start off with, then finished you. Awesome!
    And McCree's new mag-grenade is almost worst than his flashbang. The latter barely had any visual cue that one could use to avoid it, before it hit, and the mag-grenade also has little 'tell', none anyone would even notice in the heat of battle. You only know he got it on you, when it beeps to detonation, and if you're not Moira, Reaper, Kiriko, or any character that has an ability ready to nullify the damage (which most characters don't have), then you're screwed, because you're most likely not at full health, which means the instant 160 dmg will kill you no matter how hard you scream "F - - - !!" or how hard you roll your eyes, when you hear the beeping and resign to your unceremonious, BS death. The only thing that makes his mag-grenade marginally more tolerable is that you can actually avoid the damage with some characters, unlike his flashbang, which could always hit you, before you could even think about using an ability to avoid it, and its effect was usually long enough for him to fan his shots at you to instantly kill you and ruin your day, either way. Rinse and repeat, like a one-trick pony. BUT...that's not him, anymore and the mag-grenade can sometimes be dodged, but that happens accidentally, anyway, since one can barely even see him throw it, it happens so fast.
    I'm far more annoyed with a Hog's hook and headshot combo, as his hook comes out impossibly fast. You seem him jogging towards you, flab, flab, and think about pressing that button, as a Moira, that's for Fade, but the instant that happens, he snatches you from a good 20 meters and night night! And if by sheer accident your panic makes you react faster and you fade or use Wraith form before hands, chances are 50-50, that his immediate hook-through hits nothing, or he wasn't about to use it, anyway, which means you just wasted your only means of escape. Brilliant!
    Then there's Zen's similarly high damage attack where he rapidly fires all his pallets at you, once again, without much if any visual cues that he's even charging it. You're just left wondering, again, how that friggin' floating monk offed you so fast, then, you see the kill-cam, him charging up before he flits around a corner and practically snipes you.
    Don't even get me started on Junkrat and HIS bullshit.

    I love these new changes, especially on characters i main like D.va and Mercy, they dont feel nearly as pathetic as in OW1, particularly D.va's cannons feeling like im pinching and throwing grains of sand at ppl like an angry Salt Bae. Now they actually hurt, AND she can take quite some punishment as a tank. Now that i know how these changes work and why im enjoying ow2 sooo much more, it makes me wonder how D.va would feel if her mech was half and half armor and shields, and baby D.va having normal health, as if it were a proper vehicle...
    Probably overpowered. >:3
    But it would make sense, the tank with the most emphasis on survivability, the regenerating shields would really work with using thrusters as an escape vector

      You do in ow1, I think it's the same in ow2? I haven't seen otherwise. Only as long as the damage wasn't self inflicted, that never gives the healer ult charge.

      What is the genuine point of this comment? This was made way before wrecking ball buff, so KarQ can't say Wrecking Ball because it'd be factually wrong.
