    Doesn't cost anything to listen.

Hey, OP. Shelter, water, food and communications are my top 4 priorities (personal protection devices are a given). Of course I've got my Baofeng radios scattered amongst the family, love 'em. My CB's I've had for many years. 2 handheld, 1 vehicle mounted and a base station. All still work. For short distance or vehicles traveling together, they're good to have. Have a great day, OP and LP.

Thanks for the good points! I’ve been testing coms with a relative who lives a mile away with lots of houses and not flat terrain between us. Surprisingly, FRS radio works pretty well, even as we sit in our houses. And it does not require a license which is great. I also paid for a GMRS license and that’s better than FRS because certain frequencies allow 5Watts (on handhelds) Up to 50W on base stations or car installable models. I only have 5 Watt handhelds and we can hear each other on GMRS even if both of us are in our basements. I tried CB the same way without being able to connect. I think if we both stand outside, with me at the highest point of our property, we might be able to contact each other. I will try that next. But I love CB, and I’m working on a way to talk to my relative. All of these radios might be good to monitor if SHTF to see what other people are saying. In addition to shortwave and SSB.

Good that you are trying different systems. Plus, you know the value of just listening. A lot of people overlook that. Thanks for watching.

Cb is set up for cars unless handheld ones so you would need a 12v battery unless there is another way if so maybe you could make a video on this if this applies
