I love that when you take lyrical content out of a band you allow the musicians to tell a story and speak without words. Thanks Animals as Leaders for showing us all that you can be technical without losing innovation.
Actually miss Navene's electronics that made up a great portion of the sound of this album. Not to say Matt is an absolute beast, I think the two fo them both awesome drummers, both very fitting for this band!
I'll never forget the day i saw Animals as Leaders follow Vital remains and the most violent moshpit turned into a focused, open-minded and at the end appreciative crowd who stood watched and clapped lol it was cool to see. took me a while to really get into them but i've been a fan since.
I swear, you guys are like the bastard in-vitro abominations of trying to combine Steve Vai and John Petrucci, and someone contaminated the mix with a sample of Dick Lövgren and a strain of Brann Dailor. I freaking love the result. Absolutely amazing.
I gotta say that by this song and by the studio update i've seen, this album sounds like it is gonna be much better than the last, which is really saying something being that the last album is amazing. I'm really looking forward to hearing the whole thing, especially cause tosin is one of my absolute favorite guitar players.
I love how there's this big, epic song playing, then it cuts to the guys playing it, and they look like completely normal people you'd find in a local bar band.
And if you've been paying attention to the music industry lately, that's exactly what it's become. Lots of niche bands that aren't quite radio material but fill the gap for whats missing in most people's musical tastes. These guys do it for me, and I've driven to other states to support them. Everyone should see these guys live, and purchase their album. They are straight up beast mode music and really know their stuff.
There's really something very special about Animals As Leaders.. I don't know how Tosin/Javier/Navene can write such intricate and crazy-technical music yet keep it sounding completely musical and tasteful, and sounds not like they're showing off. Unbelievable stuff. Expecting 'Weightless' in the post any day now...!!
I saw them live and they had these panels that had stuff like shapes and such on it. I wish they would make a whole dvd with like all their songs along with video footage of these shapes.
As many metal music critics says that TesseracT and this band complex technical metal instrumentals will outlast any regressive trolls who hates this type of music.
@MenNomMenAh I understand where he's coming from; the more complex music you listen to, the easier you become bored or dissatisfied with other music. It also makes you notice lots of small quips that you begin to hear in different songs that leave you frustrated.
Images and Words. Masterpiece. They earned their reputation, and I thought their latest effort was a great comeback against their seemingly declining material.
I cannot like this enough. The world would be a better place if this were the kind of music that drew 50 million likes. But this way, only the worthy ever find it.
Saw you dudes in Glasgow tonight - absolutely good in its purest form. Im still in awe of the fact you managed to find two other human beings to play drums and wythm geetar along with you - but splendidly well done on doing so - you all rule.
@atfgmatt as Tyrantarmy said, they are "polyrhythms." in simplest terms there are two different time signatures going, but they always end up syncing. For instance, a rhythm at 4/4 time and lead at 3/4 time will always still mesh. It gets much more complicated with 5/4, 9/8 time etc..
@VegasPoker It is staying separate as far as I know, it was done around the time of the debut but they just finished it slightly later. If i remember correctly Tosin said it will stay separate in a recent interview.
Damn just read about this, that dude is my hero. These days you pretty much need to stream and save the video the internet so if they destroy your phone you can still prove everything.
animals as leaders always an inspiration to me. a form of controlled chaos that not many bands can acheive. also thside project t.r.a.m us very good. future of prog music is heee
If our politicians and government officials where the type of people who loved and respected this type of music. The world would be such a better place.
On November 8th this album shall inject into my ears musical oscillations so profound that my brain matter may begin to hemorrhage due to my mind being blown (given that my face doesn't melt first)!
@ everyone misha mansoor said in guitar world that he coined the term djent after the sound made by a palm muted open chord with an octave played on the G string
the possibility of Tosin Abasi, victor Wooten and Jojo Mayer jamming together just made what was left of my brain after watching this video disintegrate and pour out of my ears which have now melted shut...
I've listened to this about 10 times now and each time it brings tears to my eyes because of how beautiful it is
Same for me. :)
It's still one of my favorite tracks by them, if not the favorite.
I love that when you take lyrical content out of a band you allow the musicians to tell a story and speak without words. Thanks Animals as Leaders for showing us all that you can be technical without losing innovation.
I'm just so happy we've come so far in music. I can't play as well as Tosin now, but one day I will.
It's been 9 years. How's your guitar journey? Can you Play as well as Abasi, yet?
@@ramrod924 man check out the kid who covered animals as leaders 12 yrs ago.... youtube michael gilinsky
its been 11 years. can you play as well as him yet
Actually miss Navene's electronics that made up a great portion of the sound of this album. Not to say Matt is an absolute beast, I think the two fo them both awesome drummers, both very fitting for this band!
He is still in the band. He actually did most of the electronics on joy of motion..
+Joshua Henry he isn't "IN" the band per say. but he's a friend of the bad just like misha and nolly who help out with bits and pieces.
Octavian Malcolm tru
Note to self: Don't listen to AAL before bed. Feels like I just pounded 6 pots of coffee. Can't wait to see these guys live next month.

I bought this album this morning. Best album of 2011, no contest.
There are no bad songs.
That ending solo is...... 2:45
Most gorgeous solo I’ve ever heard!
12 years, probably their most underrated album
This music is definitely interesting... I find myself saying "yeah this isn't my style" but then not being able to stop listening either....hmm
Some of those lead parts are just celestial. This is what they needed, superb production and godly guitar tone. Majestic.
Absolutely true!
modern age musical genius ! the next einstein in musical way :)

Heavy radiohead influence for sure on this one that pumps the heaviness up.
Wtf
All I can say about this band is...AWESOME!!!!
Economy fails, music grows
I love how there's this big, epic song playing, then it cuts to the guys playing it, and they look like completely normal people you'd find in a local bar band.
Epilepsy warning.
legit man i in the hospital now was in a coma for 2 weeks
I just woke up from a 6 year coma, why is everyone wearing masks?
@@BJ.Cardosoi just woke up From a Coma From 2020, Why is nobody wearing masks anymore?😅

Don't watch this on acid EVER
actually watching it stoned af is much better
Patrick Sullivan, Why what happens?
Josh Copeland it’s pretty amazing actually
Sorry man, I've just watched and became in an futuristic robot
OH MY GOD. WHERE HAS THIS BEEN ALL MY LIFE?
it's so heavy but so cerebral all at the same time.
I literally just died
2 potentes guirarras eliminan la necesidad de un bass, esto es un manjar auditivo
That solo was pretty beautiful.
Fuckin' amazing!

+ziggystardust48 This band reminds me of Mastodon a bit. Loving it !
@MenNomMenAh I understand where he's coming from; the more complex music you listen to, the easier you become bored or dissatisfied with other music. It also makes you notice lots of small quips that you begin to hear in different songs that leave you frustrated.
Animals as Leaders = Tosin Abasi's solo project. TECHNICALLY!!
Images and Words. Masterpiece. They earned their reputation, and I thought their latest effort was a great comeback against their seemingly declining material.
unbelievably complex, dark and beautiful!!!!
He is right. This band is underrated. I don't know how to explain but hes right.
Awesome! I cannot wait for the album, I need it now. I listen to their debut everyday!
I cannot like this enough. The world would be a better place if this were the kind of music that drew 50 million likes. But this way, only the worthy ever find it.
My mind works in perfect harmony to this song.
My face is slowly melting from the greatness of this song. I'm trying hard to mush it back into place, but I'm busy breaking the replay button.
Hopefully I see them live on July here in California!!
Saw you dudes in Glasgow tonight - absolutely good in its purest form. Im still in awe of the fact you managed to find two other human beings to play drums and wythm geetar along with you - but splendidly well done on doing so - you all rule.
best song on the weightless album by far
The riffs and tone of the lead guitars in this song remind of Satch
mixing the low and high tones in the beginning between the left and right made the beginning sooooo epic.
nice mixed 11/8 beat....and heavy playing, progressive rock etc...I would like to hear that piece live !
It's so great to see such love and support for intelligent music.
I'd love to see a pop singer get this popular without mainstream media or radio play
Incredible. Wish I could see these guys live at some point...
Now that, ladies and gentlemen, is how you conduct a proper youtube argument. It's good to see AAL has fans just as cool as their music.
@atfgmatt as Tyrantarmy said, they are "polyrhythms." in simplest terms there are two different time signatures going, but they always end up syncing. For instance, a rhythm at 4/4 time and lead at 3/4 time will always still mesh. It gets much more complicated with 5/4, 9/8 time etc..
reminds me of the old windows media player graphics. love the new music
So far I have bought three albums from them by going to their website, then their record label. I want this next.
@VegasPoker
It is staying separate as far as I know, it was done around the time of the debut but they just finished it slightly later. If i remember correctly Tosin said it will stay separate in a recent interview.
I know that feel, bro. That's why music like Animals As Leaders is so amazing.
I kind of wish Javier got some moments to shine. He's well able for all that crazy stuff too.
@SabuPtolemy I'm extremely impressed at the amount of great music that is coming out recently, 2011 is one of my favorite years ever.
who here remembers Tosin slaying it in small venues back in the days of Reflux and dreadlocks? oh man im so happy this guy kept making music.
Pre-ordered my copy, should be here tomorrow! Can't wait!
Damn just read about this, that dude is my hero. These days you pretty much need to stream and save the video the internet so if they destroy your phone you can still prove everything.
Baaaah what I would give to get lessons from these guys...such talented musicians!
Can't wait! They've really carved their own niche. This is beautiful.
@LunarLionheart Nonono, TRAM is on Sumerian. Tosin and Javier are in TRAM as well as AAL
this made my day today, they are the only band to make me this happy about music.
animals as leaders always an inspiration to me. a form of controlled chaos that not many bands can acheive. also thside project t.r.a.m us very good. future of prog music is heee
seriously how can you even think of disliking this? pure awesomeness!
So far, I've watched this 5 times and it still doesn't get old.
Man this is just to amazing!!!! Release the album already!!!!
@AfallTV They play in the tuning E , B, E, A , D, G, B , E
its a 8 string tuning lol, its basically standard tuning with a low E and a low B
If our politicians and government officials where the type of people who loved and respected this type of music. The world would be such a better place.
So apparantly, Tosin can play anything on the guitar and make it sound like god made it. I think that's pretty cool
Tosi Abasi is the most interesting musician right now for me
Thank you guys so much. This is wonderful.
@eastwoodize It's part of the song called espera! look it up on wikipedia and youll see the song espera and thats what the intro is
@mattcarlover me neither. its just brilliant
These guys killed this song live. A must see band live!!!
I saw them yesterday with BTBAM and TesseracT... It was a mighty show!
@HurricaneTBag Tosin did the bass in the last album. Live performances bass is through the PA
There's bass guitar in the mix. Listen carefully and you'll hear three instruments, excepting the drums.
On November 8th this album shall inject into my ears musical oscillations so profound that my brain matter may begin to hemorrhage due to my mind being blown (given that my face doesn't melt first)!
FUSION and METAL combined + samples........ Animals As Leaders = EPIC!!
This is sick! I can't get this song out from my head for 3 days already
this is some of the most complex music ever. its like a workout to even try and understand whats actually going on.
I'm in this video at 2:46 leaning over the rail in the front in the CAFO baseball t. haha, that was a great show. It was filmed in Atlanta btw
if you get Tosin Abasi and Victor Wooten in a room together, you will then witness a formation of a star
@jobkuizenga Earth Departure is incredible.... at first I thought it was too short but now I realise its the perfect length for optimum epicness!!!
To everyone wondering:
The song in the beginning is "Espera" off this album.
The live footage starting at 2:30, I'm in it at 2:45 leaning on a rail wearing my CAFO shirt haha xD footage was shot in Atlanta
everyone, play this in 720p. it makes the video and sound quality much more enjoyable
Thanks for sharing this with me Quartney. Love you ^___^
@NoaOno It`s pretty possible for Thordendal. I love using it :)
@neeminaatan Ever thought the monotone, forte sound is the dynamic? What if that's the impression the song wants to give?
@ everyone misha mansoor said in guitar world that he coined the term djent after the sound made by a palm muted open chord with an octave played on the G string
Album is online:D I'm listenning it. i'm buying Weightless as soon it'll be out.
The while song is amazing! They did a really good job with the bass too. It's synthesized, but it sounds very close to a Warwick Thumb.
Feels so cool to know Matt personally. Fucking shreds
amazing! cant wait till the album drops,
they're almost too good to be on so many metal tours, honestly.
Looks like the same show when I saw them in SF recently. Not sure if it was this exact taping but same tour.
2:29...Wow Fucking awesome. Amazing riff leading into a creative, tasteful technical solo.
That riff is badass!
I'm getting old, but that doesn't mean that I'm tone deaf. These guys are AMAZING.
@Metalmando69 it was leaked you can torrent it now to get a preview before buying the hard CD.
the possibility of Tosin Abasi, victor Wooten and Jojo Mayer jamming together just made what was left of my brain after watching this video disintegrate and pour out of my ears which have now melted shut...
