Realistically, a rider like Oli would tear the legs off most of us casual GCN viewers. To watch him getting flogged by the pros really makes it clear just how wide the gulf is between a talented dedicated fit amateur, and a true pro athlete. 160km/4000m and they looked so casual at the rest stop, whereas most of us would be gasping and calling for an ambulance!!! Pro cycling is a brutal sport.
There's different levels to this stuff..the average person who may not cycle has no idea how strong a pro cyclist is. Maybe not win any wrestling matches but put them on a bike and its another level.
@@mikicastan I dont think it's just watts. I mean think how much you have to accelerate to close a gap? That's why the majority people get dropped on there first race regardless of there fitness level. They dont train realistically what a race would be like.
@@Stiitchjones I'm a wrestler and I have the most respect for cyclists. Not only are they strong and durable but the are mentally strong, just like a wrestler.
This probably extends to any sport. I think it's easy to watch and comment on the performance of a or b pro but I guess the reference point is implicitly relative to the pro distribution. It certainly is a bit arrogant to think an amateur even with a lot of training can match even the lower percentiles in pro performance.
Which Oliver are we talking about? Bridgewood or Naesen ? Naesen definitely deserves a win this year, Bridgewood hopefully gonna beat that Mercx record
Well he did beat his training-partner Greg Van Avermaet this year in the sprint on the Muur van Geraardsbergen, final stage BinkBank. Also 2x Bretagne classic But yes just like Sep Vanmarcke he deserves many more wins, given the amount of top 10 placings in classic races.
I take my casquette off to you Oli. It was very noble of you to stop when you did. It would be a poor etiquette to leave the pros behind on that climb! 🤣
I know what it's like to be overshadowed by pro cyclists... Me and my buddy were suffering on a steep climb, we were panting hard, then our local cycling group passed us, making it look like they were riding on the flat
Ollie is just the best at the self deprecating looks and comments. His videos always make me smile. He reminds us - if we actually need to be reminded - that pros are at another level in every aspect and does so with good information and humor. Thanks Ollie
Great job Ollie. I'm glad you were taking it easy on the boys from AG2R, it wouldn't be good for them heading into the season knowing that a GCN presenter was dogging them on the climbs. Good job by you!
It was so irresponsible, insensitive and even heartless of Ollie to drop the whole team on that climb! In an attempt to keep up with him they screwed up a whole day of training!
Oliver your the man doing that training cuz as i remember your not a former pro which makes me respect your efforts much more. Good luck on the track challenge
Presenter is pretty funny which is cool and the pro rider Oliver was chilled and had a sense of humour which is very refreshing for pro a cyclists. Good pick Gcn
Really great filming. I always enjoy Ollie and his sense of humour. That said Oliver comes across as a really great guy with a great sense of humour. This is the umpteenth time I have returned to watch this Keep this up GCN....
Cor, fancy waking up to seeing Ollie at the end of your bed! Blimey, that’s must be really scary! What a guy Ollie is to leave the ride early cos he was going too fast for the team. What a bloke! Surprised they didn’t sign him up there and then, but he would never leave GCN to become a pro rider, eating those breakfasts and getting paid loads of dosh. He knows where he’s better off. He ain’t silly is he?
Pro training is brutal. They often go harder than they would do in actual racing, when strategy and tactics in the actual race matters. Especially those riding for the GC don't often go all out at all in the fear of blowing up the next day.
hello I am Hendra from Indonesia, my goal is to become a professional cyclist, and I really like your roadbike with solid and sturdy materials, I really want to ride your bike🙏 and my prayers that this channel will continue to grow and be blessed. Amen
Ollie-- excellent job not showing these 'Pros' up. You don't want to get them in trouble with their sponsors! It is so obvious from your Hour of Power workouts that you were only putting out ~50% of what your super-human conditioning and mental toughness is capable of these days. You are the very definition of a sportsman!!
As I'm typing that at 3:38. I'd 10 second into the serious training after leaving the car park. Assuming Ollie can keep up with the team in the car park.
Outstanding Squire! And awesome work on the bike. Great ride! First hand primary research. Two BIG THUMBS UP for the video. Spot on. Keep em coming, eh.
I always thought if I could keep up with one GCN presenter (besides Dan) it would be Ollie...until I saw that ride profile and thought there’s no way I could hang with pros for that ride. Fortunately neither could Ollie so my theory still holds. Well done Ollie!
When we did a Katusha-Alpecin training week, we had dinner around 8pm as well. I guess it is normal when you are getting lunch after your ride at 2-3pm. (And they were a German/Russian team.)
I love when Ollie presents, and does not take himself too seriously. Fun to watch.
Yea. The funny entertaining ones left.
Training ride: 160km and 4000m of climbing, sounds like a near death experience to me! #PrayForOllie
Lol
And then do it again the next day!
Lol

Do you know what. I think GCN is one of the best things to happen to cycling.
That and the sealed bottom bearing.
Hands down
And the best thing to happen to UA-cam too. There production quality and their presenters are so good
Special shout-out to Oli
It simply is
Yes!
Let's hope Oliver can snatch a win this season. He's had so many close calls and deserves something.

This season of what? Where is he racing?
Oliver is not a pro
London Lee Olivier nAesen is
Poor Ollie left to eat all on his own. Takes me back to my school days.
I too often forget that a camera guy is a person
With a last name of Shelby, didn't you shoot everyone at school?

So impressive! Ollie even staying with them for that long is awesome!
Bruce Langsteiner this is my second time seeing you today. Small web…site.
Holy_ShushCabin, I know! We’re just a couple regulars following a favorite group of great folks.
Cycling is awesome, either if you are a pro, a presenter or amateur or a weekend warrior...
weekend warrior?:D
How true, its not how fast you ride but you ride which is important. It makes you happy.
@@zbynekbroda4729 guess it's for working people that only has the weekends to bike.,🤔
I love my life on my bike
Very true
Fact is ollie is a darn good cyclist (and funny as heck)... Makes U realize how good they are.
Ollie wasnt coming from pro background but able to cling with pro for 3 hours with that route , I’m just impressed.
Well done Ollie. You hung in with the pros a fair amount of time. Your training is paying off.
I was wrong when Ollie ask how to spot a British ride in a group of Europeans. I thought it was the pasty white skin and the wrong bike.
I just thought it was the pasty white skin too.
Lisa Rogers naturally, Pinarello is unquestionably wrong ))))
or the only one that only speaks one language...
Maybe Si still has some of that spray tan left. 🤣
@Pete is never wrong nah there's the french too ;)
Probably why they went with a belgian for the day :D
Naesen is a really good interviewee
the rest of the crew seam be pretty snobby tho.
@Giuliano Skywalker bardet seems snooty to me. I like pinot a lot more
Oli has a great personality.
I know what it's like to be overshadowed by pro cyclists... Me and my buddy were suffering on a steep climb, we were panting hard, then our local cycling group passed us, making it look like they were riding on the flat
What a funny guy! Hope he finally wins a classic this season!
I love Cyclists! I visit Mallorca each Year to see thousands of Cyclists! Its Fascination!
Ollie you've got a great ability to tackle something serious, with humour 😄
...”Pray for Ollie”...crack me up! Great video.
Ollie's "swallow" take at 8:43... Brilliant. Stanislavski would be proud.
He was so nice. I’ll root for him in the Classics!
Ollie is just the best at the self deprecating looks and comments. His videos always make me smile. He reminds us - if we actually need to be reminded - that pros are at another level in every aspect and does so with good information and humor. Thanks Ollie
I like the calm waves of the sea at the end of the video. Super soothing.
Olly is very funny yet gets the point across 👌
What a good sport. He epically cranked with the best in the world and cruuuuuushed
