A Day In The Life Of A Pro Cyclist with AG2R La Mondiale

- What happens in a typical day in the life of a Professional Cyclist? How much do they train? What do they do when they train? What do they eat? When do they eat it? Seeing the pros racing throughout the season certainly looks tough but what goes on behind the scenes to get them to that point? Mavic invited Ollie out to Spain to join Team AG2R La Mondiale and spend a day looking into the life of a Pro Cyclist.

Training ride: 160km and 4000m of climbing, sounds like a near death experience to me! #PrayForOllie
Lol
And then do it again the next day!
Lol
@@nightsfalling And the next, and the next.
Peter yes, I know 😄
I love when Ollie presents, and does not take himself too seriously. Fun to watch.
Yea. The funny entertaining ones left.
Realistically, a rider like Oli would tear the legs off most of us casual GCN viewers. To watch him getting flogged by the pros really makes it clear just how wide the gulf is between a talented dedicated fit amateur, and a true pro athlete. 160km/4000m and they looked so casual at the rest stop, whereas most of us would be gasping and calling for an ambulance!!! Pro cycling is a brutal sport.
Mububban23
Around 300 watts his ftp.
He mention it somewhere
There's different levels to this stuff..the average person who may not cycle has no idea how strong a pro cyclist is. Maybe not win any wrestling matches but put them on a bike and its another level.
@@mikicastan I dont think it's just watts. I mean think how much you have to accelerate to close a gap? That's why the majority people get dropped on there first race regardless of there fitness level. They dont train realistically what a race would be like.
@@topmech71 I'm a wrestler and I have the most respect for cyclists. Not only are they strong and durable but the are mentally strong, just like a wrestler.
This probably extends to any sport. I think it's easy to watch and comment on the performance of a or b pro but I guess the reference point is implicitly relative to the pro distribution. It certainly is a bit arrogant to think an amateur even with a lot of training can match even the lower percentiles in pro performance.
Do you know what. I think GCN is one of the best things to happen to cycling.
That and the sealed bottom bearing.
Hands down
And the best thing to happen to UA-cam too. There production quality and their presenters are so good
Special shout-out to Oli
It simply is
Yes!
Let's hope Oliver can snatch a win this season. He's had so many close calls and deserves something.
Which Oliver are we talking about? Bridgewood or Naesen ? Naesen definitely deserves a win this year, Bridgewood hopefully gonna beat that Mercx record
Well he did beat his training-partner Greg Van Avermaet this year in the sprint on the Muur van Geraardsbergen, final stage BinkBank.
Also 2x Bretagne classic
But yes just like Sep Vanmarcke he deserves many more wins, given the amount of top 10 placings in classic races.
This season of what? Where is he racing?
Oliver is not a pro
London Lee Olivier nAesen is
I take my casquette off to you Oli. It was very noble of you to stop when you did. It would be a poor etiquette to leave the pros behind on that climb! 🤣
Poor Ollie left to eat all on his own. Takes me back to my school days.
I too often forget that a camera guy is a person
With a last name of Shelby, didn't you shoot everyone at school?
@@phoeNYkx lol
I know what it's like to be overshadowed by pro cyclists... Me and my buddy were suffering on a steep climb, we were panting hard, then our local cycling group passed us, making it look like they were riding on the flat
So impressive! Ollie even staying with them for that long is awesome!
Bruce Langsteiner this is my second time seeing you today. Small web…site.
Holy_ShushCabin, I know! We’re just a couple regulars following a favorite group of great folks.
Ollie wasnt coming from pro background but able to cling with pro for 3 hours with that route , I’m just impressed.
Fact is ollie is a darn good cyclist (and funny as heck)... Makes U realize how good they are.
Cycling is awesome, either if you are a pro, a presenter or amateur or a weekend warrior...
weekend warrior?:D
How true, its not how fast you ride but you ride which is important. It makes you happy.
@@zbynekbroda4729 guess it's for working people that only has the weekends to bike.,🤔
I love my life on my bike
Very true
Well done Ollie. You hung in with the pros a fair amount of time. Your training is paying off.
Ollie you've got a great ability to tackle something serious, with humour 😄
Oli has a great personality.
Ollie, great video. We saw what a great cyclist you were in your project 49 video. This video reminds us all of what it means to be truly elite. When a rider like you gets dropped on what a relatively "easy" ride is for a pro team, it really makes us realize how good these guys are and what it means to be elite. As I say, "there is always someone faster"
Thanks again
I was wrong when Ollie ask how to spot a British ride in a group of Europeans. I thought it was the pasty white skin and the wrong bike.
I just thought it was the pasty white skin too.
Lisa Rogers naturally, Pinarello is unquestionably wrong ))))
or the only one that only speaks one language...
Maybe Si still has some of that spray tan left. 🤣
@Pete is never wrong nah there's the french too ;)
Probably why they went with a belgian for the day :D
Really great filming. I always enjoy Ollie and his sense of humour. That said Oliver comes across as a really great guy with a great sense of humour. This is the umpteenth time I have returned to watch this
Keep this up GCN....
Nice video for a long time I didn’t saw so good short film such as this.
Congratulations bravo :)
Ollie's "swallow" take at 8:43... Brilliant. Stanislavski would be proud.
Outstanding Squire! And awesome work on the bike. Great ride! First hand primary research. Two BIG THUMBS UP for the video. Spot on. Keep em coming, eh.
Naesen is a really good interviewee
the rest of the crew seam be pretty snobby tho.
@Giuliano Skywalker bardet seems snooty to me. I like pinot a lot more
Oliver your the man doing that training cuz as i remember your not a former pro which makes me respect your efforts much more. Good luck on the track challenge
Great video Ollie.
Fantastic to get insight into a day in the life of the pros. Enjoyed the parts on the meals.
Thank you for this insight, Ollie! GCN rocks
Great insight into pro team training camp, well done Ollie 👍
I love Cyclists! I visit Mallorca each Year to see thousands of Cyclists! Its Fascination!
Keep up the good work GCN! A great insight into the life of a pro cyclist.....
What a funny guy! Hope he finally wins a classic this season!
Great job Ollie. I'm glad you were taking it easy on the boys from AG2R, it wouldn't be good for them heading into the season knowing that a GCN presenter was dogging them on the climbs. Good job by you!
I like the calm waves of the sea at the end of the video. Super soothing.
Amazing insight, thanks GCN, Mavic, AG2R and Oliver!
He was so nice. I’ll root for him in the Classics!
...”Pray for Ollie”...crack me up! Great video.
The best cycling video I have ever seen. Hilarious and fantastic are the only two words that come to my mind
Amazing🙌🏻🚴🏻♂️💚
Thanks GCN for this one!!!👏🏻
Great video and great insights. Very nice and I really enjoyed this one!
This sound like amazing experience for Oli. So happy for him. Good training for his hour of power.
Fantastic video, thank you Ollie. Keep up the great work🙂
Thks Ollie for a lovely humour-filled vid presentation which I greatly enjoyed.
Keep it up!!!!
And you survived! :))) 😎👍🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Awesome Video! Im always curious about what these guys do to get to and stay at that level! ... I think I now want Ollie's job more than ever
Finland cycling life is amazing. So much hard work goes into the day.
Great video, Ollie is a legit funny dude! 😂😂
What a good sport. He epically cranked with the best in the world and cruuuuuushed
Great insight Oli and well done for having a go, a real privilege to ride amongst those guys.
Fabulous video , very informative !
I think your sense of humor doesn’t get the attention it deserves! You are so funny and authentic, dude!
Absolutely loved this!!
Awesome video - greatly produced + informative.
I love the humor woven into the commentary!
1:06 Ollie practicing for his role in the Hollywood remake of Asian horror film "The Graveling" XD
Awesome video guys...you guys should do a video about what it’s like for a team to travel to a grand tour like all their preparation what they need for it etc
Ollie doing bicep curls with litrally the smallest dumbbell ever made bless him
Olly is very funny yet gets the point across 👌
hello I am Hendra from Indonesia, my goal is to become a professional cyclist, and I really like your roadbike with solid and sturdy materials, I really want to ride your bike🙏 and my prayers that this channel will continue to grow and be blessed. Amen
Presenter is pretty funny which is cool and the pro rider Oliver was chilled and had a sense of humour which is very refreshing for pro a cyclists. Good pick Gcn
Ollie is just the best at the self deprecating looks and comments. His videos always make me smile. He reminds us - if we actually need to be reminded - that pros are at another level in every aspect and does so with good information and humor. Thanks Ollie
What a brilliant insight, thank you.
Boss thanks for inspiring us god bless you guys
You guys always have awesome videos. Keep it up
Great Video~~ Good Job Ollie dropping all the pros, ha ha ha ha!!
ollie the legend love from ph 💚
So good great video!
Ollie and Oli, start of a new bromance?
Absolutely brilliant Ollie!
Once again GCN delivers!
Cor, fancy waking up to seeing Ollie at the end of your bed! Blimey, that’s must be really scary! What a guy Ollie is to leave the ride early cos he was going too fast for the team. What a bloke! Surprised they didn’t sign him up there and then, but he would never leave GCN to become a pro rider, eating those breakfasts and getting paid loads of dosh. He knows where he’s better off. He ain’t silly is he?
More videos like this one,,,,,,,,,good job ollie
Such an awesome and insightful video. I would love to do something like that, although I would have been dropped way earlier.
i think this is the year for Oli Naeson and AG2R for a big classic, or even monument win.
Great video Ollie as usual.
Looks a superb experience. I'd love to have been in your place there!
Thanks for this video Ollie
Very very cool....keep up the great work
That view at the end of the video! ❤
Love seeing Oli geek out over this
Those Eddy Mercx bikes with the mavics look sensational. I think my favourite pro team bike.
I like Ollie. Very entertaining, but so much information anyways! Great!
The Ron Burgundy reference at 1:50 😂😂😂
Good news for me, just purchased a $7k dentist bike so i should be able to pace all day long with these guys 😉
Naesen is amazing😂😂😂
When we did a Katusha-Alpecin training week, we had dinner around 8pm as well. I guess it is normal when you are getting lunch after your ride at 2-3pm. (And they were a German/Russian team.)
Ollie is such a funny guys 👦🤣😂😆😄
Great stuff Ollie 💪🏻👏🏻👊🏻👍🏻💙 loves this one! Love your humour 😂😂
Jay Shockey thanks mate! Glad you appreciate it
...sheesh, that sunset at the end of the video!
Also awesome video.
I rode up to the Col du Sabot in late June 2019, on a very hot day (it was 37 degrees at the col!), and this team rode past me like I was standing still :) That must have been one very hot, sweaty training ride for them.
I just love the enthusiasm of GCN and Olies presenting. :))
I am better at cycling than spelling. Ollie.... :p
Sometimes these day in the life vids are just going through the motions, but this was really nicely presented and done, now give me some of those Mavic wheels!! :-)
This was great! Ollie did a great job injecting some humor into that!
This was so great
Pro training is brutal. They often go harder than they would do in actual racing, when strategy and tactics in the actual race matters. Especially those riding for the GC don't often go all out at all in the fear of blowing up the next day.
Iam going to be following you around allll day 😁
Seem as GCN has start make horror videos! Imagine be awake and see Ollie! Very realistic :)))
A football team wouldn't have accepted... Thank you for your Humility! !
Ollie you are funny. I enjoyed this video very much
One of the best Ollie vids for ages.
We had a great time making this one! Glad you enjoyed it!
It was so irresponsible, insensitive and even heartless of Ollie to drop the whole team on that climb! In an attempt to keep up with him they screwed up a whole day of training!
Ask almost every human being and they will tell that message feels really good
This video gets better everytime i watch it
This guy’s hilarious 😂
