Just when you think he's already one of the nicest guys around he opens up about an area people would normally hide or be embarrassed about. But no, openly tells it as it was, made a change and came through it stronger. Thank you so much for sharing the background. Good effort and will done big fella 💪
his honesty is amazing, hope we see him again, hes a good reflection of a normal person with courage and no worry to expose failure, i think he can help many people take control of their life more hes kind of a middleman between you guys and the beginners that get encouraged
@@XeLUA-cam normal? Dudes like in his late 20s and was a ex semi pro rugby player. Average Joe is a dude who never done shit sitting in a office for 20 years and decides to got out and cycle. He probably didn't have to worry about finding and buying a proper set up.
I’m currently struggling with depression. Cycling is one thing that is definitely helping. Thank you Freddie for sharing your story! And a big, hearty, congrats on finishing this ride. And I’m really thankful that Ollie was with you for the entire event. That was great teamwork. I was in tears at the end.
seeing Ollie be so supportive towards Freddie made me feel extremely warm inside. the fact that Freddie was resilient enough to be better for himself, come out of such a dark place, fight his way through, and end up finishing the Mallorca 312 gives me immense hope that maybe one day, even i can. this was probably the best video i have seen GCN put out. thanks, to Ollie, Freddie, and to everyone in the Global Cycling Network.
Now this is GCN content that I can relate to. All the cycling advertisements and youtube vids showing all the fun and smiles with riding a bike. Life is difficult. Cycling is difficult. It's the victories like this that makes the struggles worthwhile. Way to go Freddie!
I'm a 105kg rider who just finished my first 320k event with 3k of climbing. While training for that event I suddenly lost one of my closest family members and l fell into a deep depression. Cycling gave me the headspace to keep going. Freddie's video has brought me to tears. Thank you GCN. Well done Freddie! Ride on.
Your comment brought tears to my eyes, condolences on your loss. Like you I’m currently at 105kg (down 10 kilos over the last two months with mostly indoor riding), but a complete beginner years away from any races (if ever). I just ordered a properish bike. Looking at all these skinny small dudes makes me wonder if I could be go very far but your comment inspires me. And I still plan to lose some kilos. Ride on!
Condolences. Im also a heavy rider 95kg, the maximum i did was a flat ride (dutchie) of 190km. Cycling also helps me reflect and think about things in life. I guess its the time you get being just by yourself and the dopamine and endorfine that just helps you get over the rough patches in life. Stay strong and keep cycling.
What an incredible story. Props to Ollie for being such a great support system. Most importantly, well done to Freddie for being an inspiration to so many people.
In bits watching this. Amazing ride and brill support from Ollie(even though it was his job) Does anyone know how Freddie is doing now? Would be great to have a catch up on his progress, on and off the bike.
Like so many others here I can attest to the power of cycling when it comes to mental health, it has saved me during the past two years, with my wife going through cancer treatment and it’s just about keeping my head above the water since she died 6 months ago aged just 40, leaving me reeling with three young kids, including toddler twins to care for. I just wish I had more time to cycle. Great great video
My heart and soul go out to you and your children. Remember, every cyclist is your friend! Keep cycling! perhaps contact a cycling club, maybe they can help find child care whilst you do club rides!
I’ve always enjoyed and respected Ollie as an interesting, enthusiastic and knowledgeable presenter and after watching him work as a super domestique for Freddy has only served to increase that respect. And much respect and kudos to Freddy for his incredible transformation into a true cyclist and overcoming the immense challenges he faced! I’m inspired by his story to get my own transformation underway! Chapeau!
I completely agree! Ollie is a class act, and Freddie is amazing for taking on this challenge with such a short preparation time and sharing his ups and downs with us. Also John, can't wait to see/hear more about your transformation. Rock it out, buddy!!
I don't think I've ever had such an emotional response to a GCN video... this was incredible and inspiring. Thank you Freddie for sharing something so personal and real.
I did not expect that story at all. I went through something similar a long time ago and it was exercise that saved me too, it completely changed my life. I’m so happy for Freddie, great to see such a positive outcome and I feel confident he will be good the rest of his life.
Well I’ve been a GCN fan since long.. but this is one of the best videos I’ve seen in a long time. I know a lot of folks have got on to bikes just to beat issues like anxiety and depression. I can relate to Freddie so much with myself having struggled at such events and falling into a dark place mentally myself, so I can totally relate to what Freddie is feeling. My riding has changed a lot ( I think I’m faster, thinking of Greg lemond’s quote here :) ) but at a mass event I try to support and ride with guys at the back especially those who’re struggling. It’s a great thing to help them cause they’re suffering the most. Every climb, every pothole can be just a miserable experience. Helping them ride as much as possible feels like a great experience. Anyway Kudos to @Ollie and @GCN
Only people who have suffered depression and anxiety will have a true understanding of what a lonely and isolated place it can be and how even the smallest of issues can be magnified. Whenever I see someone who people look up to like Freddie be open and honest about their own struggles, I always have such respect for them. To show others it's OK to struggle and that things will get better will bring hope to so many. As Freddie says, be honest about it,, there is no shame in mental ill health, and if there is one thing I have learned it's that when you are open about it yourself, you will realise how many people close to you are suffering in silence. For that reason if I ever see the signs of anxiety or depression I always reach out and if nothing else just make people know that I am there and that when there is nothing else there is always hope. Nice work guys and a great video.
I cried for Freddie. Those tears of joy and emotion at the finish line were so moving. We all have our crosses to bear, and I have mine at the moment. Watching Freddie’s journey touched me deeply. And Ollie!! The love and care with which you stood alongside Freddie and elevated him to his best self is truly awesome.
Yea, I'd love to see Ollie do a video about supporting less experienced riders. Pacing, leading/sheltering, and keeping morale up can be complicated when riders have very different levels of experience.
Freddy, I am writing this in tears. This 21:27 video had to be replayed. You said at the 15:10 mark “it’s not that I didn’t want to live anymore, it’s that I didn’t want to be in pain anymore”. 8 years ago my wife of 30 years ended our marriage. I was not expecting it and for the last eight years I have been living in pain too. I walked away from everything, I never thought of ending my life but wished I just wasn’t anymore. Thank you, thank you, I am choosing to not live in pain but live happily and abundantly. Timing is everything, and this week I saw a post that said “We’re ALL a little broken, but last time I checked broken crayons still color - Trent Shelton” since then I put a small broken crayon in my pocket so wherever I go it’s to remind myself of that quote. I am saving this UA-cam video so that I can play it when life and its challenges gets me down. Bravo, and kudos to you from one healing human to another.
I had tears in my eyes at the end of this, amazing effort Freddie!! Ollie is such a nice bloke, we need to see more videos of this duo. Thanks for yet another fantastic video GCN.
Freddy, the cycling inspiration of the week (or the year)! Thank you for your openness about your struggles with mental health, and showing just how difficult it was to get through these 312 km. There are soooooo many cyclists (me totally included) who wouldn't have been able to do even a fraction of this monster ride. You completed it, but the real achievement is even riding. Any kind of riding. Your a such an inspiration. Thank you!
Probably the most inspirational video of GCN so far. To know the past struggles of Freddy and his determination to ride through pain just to get to the finish line, really amazing. And Ollie, so many times teased by getting dropped, he did a fantastic job to support Freddy. Massive respect to both of them!
Freddie saying to Ollie "I don't want to slow you down" is me on every ride, and the reason I don't do group rides often. Ollie's response is what other people have tried to tell me, maybe I can get it into my head now? Chapeau Freddie. Nothing like shooting for the stars on your first event, eh!
I'm on the other side of the equation, and I've done a lot of lonely rides. Had loads of people just assume I don't want to ride with them, cause they see me win time trials or something. I honestly just enjoy riding with you, don't even give it a second thought.
Wow! Freddie, you are an absolute hero. Full stop. That was so inspirational. Hats off to Ollie for being the best domestique imaginable. I wish I had someone like that when I did my first race. My own knees still hurt when I see Freddie‘s knee tracking but it surely works for him.
kudos for this vid. great story. Ollie was not dropped for a change. but seriously, the support he gave Freddie is beyond words. so uplifting. well done both
I want to thank everyone at GCN for creating this video and giving people with mental instability this wide an audience to express their emotions and tell their stories. This is incredibly heartwarming and inspirational. Similar to Freddie, I ride for reasons much bigger than just physical fitness and was moved by his honesty, his progress, and his vulnerability. I really hope that he knows that he's inspired many people and that I hope he continues to protect his peace. Cheers!
Full caps to Ollie as well for the constant encouragement, *Singing* and probably none-stop bike tech chatting. Would have been an earful but in a nice way! Big congrats to Freddie and Ollie for a fantastic experience for everyone around the world watching! Hopefully more videos to come pairing the both of them! Cheers
Amazing job Freddie. Well done lad. Shout out to all the people who stuggle with depression and have found a love in cycling. Having stuggled for years myself, I kicked the meds and have just completed my 1st 50 mile ride after buying a gravel bike a frew months back. Having had an accident on the bike and breaking my arm shortly after buying it. You get up, dust yourself of and get back on the carbon horse. Well done Freddie and great work to the GCN team for their support.
Got something in my eye watching that! There’s no doubt that taking on a challenge way outside your comfort zone and with a history of self doubt can be life changing! Go Freddie and nice job Ollie x
I am a huge Ollie fan, and now a Freddie fan as well. The end brought a tear to my eye. How inspirational was that?!!! Well done Freddie. And having Ollie as a coach and mentor. Can't be better. This has to be one of my favourite GCN videos of all time. Well done guys. Keep the Freddie and Ollie videos coming.
What a truly brilliant film! Freddie’s vulnerability and experience is one that I and so many can relate to, and the joy of cycling is and will be a breakthrough for so many people! What a fantastic journey and am amazed at Freddie’s resilience and determination throughout. I may have had a little weep at various points in the film. Well done again guys, and Chapeau Freddie!
I know I teared up at the end. Ollie is such an amazing buddy to have in your corner that's willing to see you through. Everyone has their struggles, but redemption is worth every minute of struggle.
More riders should aspire what Ollie does in this video. Facilitating your buddies to help them reach their goals is important and there needs to be more of that in cycling.
I love this so much, I flipping love Freddie, I love the type of cyclist he represents, I love how honest he is with his mental health, I love the encouragement from everyone! I almost cried at the end!
GCN was smart to bring Freddie on. Obviously, cycling pros and experts provide a huge value for GCN, but most people watching are the Freddie's of the world, especially the 'Freddie from a few years ago.' Makes it so much more relatable to see some less experienced guys we can relate to. A vast majority of the people who call themselves cyclists are us Cat 5 types.
What a freakin hero Freddie! Stood up and going stronger and stronger! And what a mentor Ollie referred himself as amateur but speaks and coaches like the best racers I imagine.
This is probably the BEST GCN video you guys have done to date. For Freddie to beat his demons and be up front about his mental health struggles and do this event is massively inspirational. I too have had similar issues and cycling is what has literally kept me from stepping off that 'ledge'. Chapeau to Freddie, and so so proud of Ollie for pacing Freddie and helping him finish this event. This should quell the dropped jokes... okay likely not. Chapeau Ollie! And a final chapeau to GCN. I've been with you guys since the start and I will say it again.. .this is likely the best vid you've done to date. Chapeau to you guys.
Wasn't expecting this video to make me cry but here we are. Picked up cycling when all the gyms closed for a while at the outset of COVID, and can really relate to cycling as huge benefit to mental health.
Many people are going through depression *right now*. Some know, some don't, Covid is not helping. This video, sharing these experiences, truly helps, for sure. Thanks Freddie for sharing his story: Mallorca 312 is an easy challenge once you've got through those dark places. For all those suffering, this is the proof you *can* do it. You matter, you are loved, don't be afraid of asking for help. 💪
So first of all thanks for my seconds of fame. I am the guy in the bright yellow top at the first feed station. I was telling all my mates I'd passed you before the first feed station only to face some entirely preventable issues later in the ride that meant 225 was my only option and for you guys to sail past me on a far more sensible pacing and pre-ride training strategy. It was much harder cut offs than when I did the whole 312 in 2018 with 10 minutes to spare. Presumably because of the shorter days .It's a great ride. I was helped round by some random I met on the ride and we ended up finishing together. I'm all singed up and back again for 2021. Chapeau to Freddie for finishing. A huge achievement and a well deserved little cry. A place I have definitely been to at the end of a couple of big long rides. A brutally honest story and a surprisingly simple but not quick fix. Well done for persevering.
Freddie showed his true and human story by completing this tough ride with an incredible mental strength and physical effort..so congratulation since he did an epic ride 💪🏻🔝🔝🔝 concerning Ollie… I must give him my most sincere respect as leader and great admiration for the super mental and human support that you gave to Freddie ..👏👏 both of you gave me a great and solid inspiration of how to NEVER LET GO..!!
AT 71 I I can't imagine doing this, but it is inspirational and a reminder to just get out there whenever and ride....get on the bike and ride. Kudos to Freddie and to the ever supportive and encouraging Ollie!
Amazing work Freddie really brought a tear to my eye! After nearly taking my own life 6 years ago and struggling years after that I started cycling 3 months ago and found it’s the most liberating and best thing I’ve done for my health like you, also started yoga after every sessions to help reflect on every ride! I hope to do a ride like you one day! Again amazing work!
One of the best videos by GCN. Brilliant work by Freddie and a role model for so many struggling with their mental health. A big shout also to Ollie for his encouragement and pacing skills. No ego just a real helping hand. Many club riders could take a lead from Ollie by encouraging not embarrassing the slower rider.
This is so inspirational. The first GCN video to bring me to tears. Freddy is a champ and Ollie is a magnificent friend. This video exemplifies the very best of cycling. Well done lads!
New found respect for Freddie. The exact reason I got into cycling was due to bad depression a few years ago. It's inspiring to see someone share their story and know that I'm not alone in my efforts to be better and use cycling to help that end!
“It’s not that I didn’t want to live - I just didn’t want to be in pain anymore. This is so relatable. Freddie… I often questioned your place on the channel, even felt jealous, but now… I get it. I get you. I get your efforts. I get your intentions. I get why GCN supported you. I get why Ollie felt so proud for you. Keep going mate. Remember, it’s all relative. Your 100% is not the same as anyone else’s 100%. That’s why we look at you like you look at pros. True inspiration 🤘🏻😎
I don't know why i am watching this videos late...I have been there Freddie I have tried to take my life twice but I couldn't find the courage to do it; then I came across a video by Manon the other GCN presenter with another cyclist from the USA riding across the forest and enjoying the scenery. I decided to get myself a bike and I am still here and I am not going anywhere soon. If it was not for that video I don't really know what could have happened. I am so grateful that my life changed and I am sure someone's life will change coz of this beautiful video. good job lad you gave it all.
Best story by GCN in awhile. A wonderful Freddie's story and congratulations to him for a super effort along with Ollie's domestique duties. Enjoyed thoroughly. Thank you and rest well.
One of the best stories yet. Freddie wow... that was off the chart inspiring, thank you for all the hard work an sharing with us.. no matter the speed or the distance or what place you might finish in, you are legend in my books. Ollie, as always you are a class act, chapeau to you
Much respect for Freddie! Getting out of a dark place ain't easy. I'm glad he did with proper help and his strong will. You never know if he inspires just one person not to give up! ❤️
Damn, I have teary eyes after watching this. You are such an inspiration my man freddie. I just started cycling about half a year ago. I don't have cycling body also and I weight about 92kgs at the time and I was wrecked at my first 10km ride. Now lost for about 8kgs and long ride 90km so far. Everytime I ride i can feel myself i'm 1% better each time. I'm still work in progress. I want to challenge myself on that kins of race someday. It's not about the race it's about to better myself. Damn, I want to ride my bike right now. Congrats mate. Keep it up!
Wonderful heartwarming story. Thank you Freddie on being so honest about your struggles and going on to finish the epic 312. Olli was an amazing partner for this event. His support reminded me of my friend who helped me in my early biking days. We can all give back and help someone who isn’t as strong. Who knows , you may just help save a life .Great work GCN .
How good is a Freddie!! Keep trying to slay the demon that is mental health mate, you are an absolute legend!! As blokes, we tend to sail down the River Denial and don't verbalise how we are feeling and when we are struggling. So proud of anyone who has the super hero strength to speak up and reach out for help when they are struggling. Massive shout out to GCN for shining the spotlight on mental health 🙌🏾
Having experienced ‘darkness’ for several years I can relate and as I sit here on my Tacx training I can honestly say that I’m proud of you Freddie, you’re an inspiration…… Ollie you’re a Legend, putting others first and seeing them achieve their goals placing yourself aside….👌 I always say ‘Any day above the ground is a good day’…….keep it rolling out there Buddy 👍🇳🇿
Freddie you are an amazing human being and that is a hell of a ride to finish! Cycling is the perfect way of escaping from this kind of problems while simultaneously facing them all. It is so heartwarming to see you happy! Ollie, you are my favourite GCN presenter, in 3 months-ish you dropped Contador on a climb and supported Freddie in his accomplishment. Incredible
Doing the 312 as an amateur with only 7 weeks proper training, top effort. Nice to see someone not a super cyclist (rest of GCN presenter team) compete, struggle but finish such an event, hope for the rest of us mortals. Keep it up Freddie.
I have to say that I have been waiting and waiting for this video in particular for quite some time now. It was initially just to see Freddie's journey as it resonated so much with me. However in all your editorial efforts to date, you did something quite sincere with this. You told a real story about a real person who should hold the title as GCN Peoples Cyclist. What made this even more empowering was you surrounded that person with success and pushed them to achieve a version they could achieve. Props to Oli for being the best domestique in GCN history. It's a tough role and you did astoundingly well. Congrats to Freddie as I was, and am right there with you. Legitimately. You're an inspiration in many ways as a cyclist but also as a human making it ok to admit to hard times and mental health. To speak to the value of recognition and the practice of self healing and love. There was a time that GCN was all about hacks and bodges and cycling gossip. This episode cements GCN into being cycling for everyone.
Wouldn't the world be better with more Freddie's. Having similar struggles with Depression and finding cycling such a help, I shed a little tear with Freddie on the finish line.
Brilliant video. Really appreciate GCN’s supportive and positive stance on these important issues. Freddie is a champ and an inspiration. So too is Ollie (we all need mates like him to go and ride our bikes with)
Great video. I became ill With neurological illness and Epilepsy 6 years ago, and the bike saved me, I was already a cyclist but had to build back up to a lower level than before to stay healthy. Kudos for the 312 Freddie, quite an incredible effort.
Great video. I can relate to Freddie. I went into depression when my father died, when I was 19 yrs. old. After a month of only to eat and go to the bathroom. I didn't leave my bed. But, I decided that I can't go on like this, I have to start living again. Nothing makes you feel more alive than cycling! Beautiful scenery, fresh air and the feeling of, that your not alone. Amazing!
I work in Mental Health and Freddie's story really touched my heart. I truly wish him the best. As advice, please consider that over training in Athletes can exacerbate depression. Never forget that fun rides have to be a big part of what we do. Freddy you're now a life long ATHLETE & you probably have made your friends and family very proud. PS: Ollie's generosity was also wonderful to see.
Absolutely in awe of you Freddie! An inspiration to us all. Congratulations, such a massive achievement 👏 Great to see the GCN family looking after you so well. We could all do with friends like Ollie 🥰 Keep on living the dream 👍🏼👏
Inspiring Freddy! My daughter suffers from depression and I know exactly how much it took you to get to this point. Keep riding! Ollie is a champ. So good to have a “normal” rider (not ex-pro) on GCN to put things in perspective for the other 95% of riders out there.
Thank you for sharing your mental health journey Freddie! I'm going through a rough patch myself, and its always a nice reminder to know that others have gone through similar and have come out the other side. I've recently picked up cycling and your story and this community have served aa quite the inspiration. Heck of a job mate. Congrats on the achievement, and shoutout to Ollie for running support throughout. Looking forward to seeing more of you on the channel!
This is such an important film and deserves to be seen much more widely. Chapeau Freddie and Ollie! What is it about this sport that takes us to the darkest and highest places? Everything about this film is relatable, from our self doubt to the importance of cycling buddies, from the elation of achieving goals to the days when we just can't do it no matter how hard we try. And most of all, the benefits to our mental heath of good food and cycling! When I lost my father a few years ago, it was cycling that kept me from the darkest places. GCN, I loved this film and the overwhelming positivity of the comments shows what a great piece of work this is. Thank you.
Wow, just wow. Well worth the wait. One of the most inspirational GCN videos I've ever watched. Freddy's effort in completing this plus his honesty about what he's been through with his mental health are fantastic. Well done to GCN, to Ollie for chaperoning him but above all, chapeau to Freddie ;-)
Total respect Freddy, 🙌. You are an absolute inspiration buddy. Good on you for opening up and sharing your story about mental health. What an amazing result on down the 312 also, stay positive and keep living the Dream Freddy.
Very helpful story , I’m 60 year old still going for depression, cyclists and bikes is helping me ,and watching story like your. You did not give up , you are my hero and I’m watching you from day one. Big progress ✅
Well done Freddie!, what an inspiration not just for the amazing job you did in cycling the 321km as that's no mean feat I've been cycling for a similar amount of time as you and there is no way I could have done what have accomplished. But for also for being so open and honest about your depression. I had been diagnosed with PTSD a couple of years ago and it took me while to overcome but the hardest to do was to talk about it openly. So thank you for opening up.
Like many have said, this is a brilliant video! So good to seeing Freddie opening up about subjects that need to be discussed! I was ill a few years ago and only being cycling a year. As someone who is rapidly approaching 50 and one of my lungs doesn’t work as it should, I have found GCN a great forum for learning about cycling. My initial target was to get a FTP that started with a 2! Please keep the good work up for us middle aged “novices” that pedal to survive on most rides!!!!
What a great video! Definitely one of GCN's best. Very well done Freddie, and Ollie. Some 17 years ago cycling, and some great support in tackling an initially daunting event, also helped me out of severe depression. Cycling remains a big part of my life and helps me stay on an even keel. All the best for the future Freddie.
Amazingly well done, Freddie! When you put the work in beforehand, the only thing you really have to worry about it your mental strength, and you clearly have that by the bucketload! You’re an amazing example to everyone that hard graft, commitment, and consistency get you to your goal. Enjoy basking in the glory of this experience; you deserve it☺️
I think the last three years have been an epic ride for you. You did it, pulled yourself up and got better. Massive respect! Well done in the 312 too. Keep shining Freddie. You got this👏👍
God Freddie, he is a star not only for this but beating and talking openly about his darker days. Huge respect to him and Kudos for Olie for his domestique duties. What a bloody video I feel honored to have watched it. Thank you Freddie and GCN!
Well done Freddie 👏 as an amateurish cyclist like you ive been through tough mental stages in life and even thought about doing the worst, so to see what you have done and where you have come from is really inspirational, keep up the great great work and thanks for inspiring others out there 👍
Been watching GCN vids for a few years now and this video has not just reset the GCN bar, it's redefined what a bar is. Stunning video and Freddie is a superstar. Best GCN presenter now, sorry all the others but that's just simply a fact now.
Wow Freddie, your honesty brought me to tears, and how good to see you cross the line. I work in mental health and am a dedicated Audax rider so found this massively relatable. Good on you for the way you listened to Ollie who by the way delivered a masterclass in distance riding, staying out of your head and pace, pace, pace! Brilliant video! Keep the wind at your back mate....
Such a great and emotional video! This was the most inspirational video I have seen in your channel. Freddie you are a hero and a fighter, thanks so much for sharing your personal experience, It will be very helpful for many others struggling in life. And this shows again how sport and cycling provide a real sense to life
I abosolutely enjoyed watching this! Thank you Freddie for sharing. Thank you Ollie for supporting. I recently participated in an event and always felt so humbled and grateful for the support that others gave me. It made my heart sing to hear Ollie want to help- thank you for people like you! And Freddie- YOU DID IT! you rode the same 312km! great work!
Freddie, awesome effort. I did the 167 this year, six month after major surgery. I did the ride with a pal who is a great cyclist, so I did the ride on my own but found it reminded me that even when we feel vulnerable and lonely we can always push ourselves to achieve more. The 167 ruined me but I’m come back next year for the big one. Great effort to Ollie, for his exceptional support during the ride. Great video. Johnny.
Congratulations Freddy !!! That's an awesome achievement with special kudos to Ollie, I was touched with the care and gentle motivation. Thank you for sharing this journey guys. Bri
By far the best GCN video I've ever watched, better than the normal sponsored stuff. Well done Freddy hats off to you!!! .....apart from the singing. 🤣
What a hero! How inspirational is Freddie?
He did so well! Congrats
Just when you think he's already one of the nicest guys around he opens up about an area people would normally hide or be embarrassed about. But no, openly tells it as it was, made a change and came through it stronger. Thank you so much for sharing the background. Good effort and will done big fella 💪
his honesty is amazing, hope we see him again, hes a good reflection of a normal person
with courage and no worry to expose failure, i think he can help many people take control of their life more
hes kind of a middleman between you guys and the beginners that get encouraged
@@XeLUA-cam normal? Dudes like in his late 20s and was a ex semi pro rugby player. Average Joe is a dude who never done shit sitting in a office for 20 years and decides to got out and cycle. He probably didn't have to worry about finding and buying a proper set up.
Hey gcn, video idea. Can Freddie beat Ollie?
I’m currently struggling with depression. Cycling is one thing that is definitely helping. Thank you Freddie for sharing your story! And a big, hearty, congrats on finishing this ride. And I’m really thankful that Ollie was with you for the entire event. That was great teamwork. I was in tears at the end.
Cheap cycling and keep active and your mental health will definitely improve ❤️
I am self medicating with cycling. Overdosing is unlikely as compared to pills. 😄
Same here, I found it good for anxiety as well. Also helpful when I was going through opiate withdrawal.
I'm glad your still here! Keep spreading love!
you got this. stay strong.
seeing Ollie be so supportive towards Freddie made me feel extremely warm inside. the fact that Freddie was resilient enough to be better for himself, come out of such a dark place, fight his way through, and end up finishing the Mallorca 312 gives me immense hope that maybe one day, even i can. this was probably the best video i have seen GCN put out. thanks, to Ollie, Freddie, and to everyone in the Global Cycling Network.
thanks pal!
Thanks Shivam!
Now this is GCN content that I can relate to. All the cycling advertisements and youtube vids showing all the fun and smiles with riding a bike. Life is difficult. Cycling is difficult. It's the victories like this that makes the struggles worthwhile. Way to go Freddie!
Absolutely with you on this, so relatable.
I wouldnt say it's the victories that make it worthwile but rather the struggle itself. As the stoics would say "the obstacle is the way".
Probably the best video I have seen produced by GCN. Ollie is a standup person. Freddie is an inspiration for us.
A real person dealing with real issues, relatable to most unlike a lot of shiny, everythings perfect internet media...
What an incredible young man and a totally inspirational story. Ollie was also probably the best training partner for that ride you could have.
Agree - the only thing missing was a hug for Freddie at the end!
105kg in europe might probably looks like this guy when overweight.
But 105kg in weight as an asian makes you like a huge ball of meat.
Freddy is such an inspiring person and him and Ollie are nothing but a dreamteam! It kinda makes me want to do the same.
Glad to hear we inspired you!
“It’s not that I didn’t want to live, I just didn’t want to be in pain anymore.”
That hit me hard…, amazing video. Well done Freddie!!
What an incredible story. Props to Ollie for being such a great support system. Most importantly, well done to Freddie for being an inspiration to so many people.
Thanks for watching James, Freddie smashed it 🙌
In bits watching this. Amazing ride and brill support from Ollie(even though it was his job)
Does anyone know how Freddie is doing now? Would be great to have a catch up on his progress, on and off the bike.
Like so many others here I can attest to the power of cycling when it comes to mental health, it has saved me during the past two years, with my wife going through cancer treatment and it’s just about keeping my head above the water since she died 6 months ago aged just 40, leaving me reeling with three young kids, including toddler twins to care for. I just wish I had more time to cycle.
Great great video
Dear Pablo. Can’t find the right words, but my heart goes out to you ❤️
the moment they're old enough get them into cycling and you can ride with them if you choose to make it a family past time. be well.
That's so awful, so sorry. Massive love to you, Pablo. Keep cycling.
My heart and soul go out to you and your children. Remember, every cyclist is your friend! Keep cycling! perhaps contact a cycling club, maybe they can help find child care whilst you do club rides!
Respect!
Chapeau!
You can do it John! Glad we've inspired you.
I completely agree! Ollie is a class act, and Freddie is amazing for taking on this challenge with such a short preparation time and sharing his ups and downs with us. Also John, can't wait to see/hear more about your transformation. Rock it out, buddy!!
@@crbondur Thanks Chris, I very much appreciate your kind words!!
I don't think I've ever had such an emotional response to a GCN video... this was incredible and inspiring. Thank you Freddie for sharing something so personal and real.
Me too
I did not expect that story at all.
Thanks Daniel - glad to hear you enjoyed it!
Seeing how Ollie supported Freddie throughout the whole ride was amazing. So proud for the both of them!
Bravo, and kudos to you from one healing human to another.
hope your doing better now, my friend. keep up!
Thank you!
Ollie is somewhere between a mother hen and a border collie, taking care of Freddie but also keeping him on task. Congrats, Freddie!
Depression is nothing to be ashamed of. Inspiring video guys, this made my day to watch! Well done Freddie.
I’m really proud of Freddie. His comment about how it wasn’t that he didn’t want to live, but rather he wanted the pain to stop…that hit hard.
We're proud of him too
+1!
That did indeed hit, very hard.
Freddie, you are amazing. Keep at it good lad!
Thank you Pete for the great comment. This was a really special one to make!
There isn't anything or anyone more impressive than these two gentlemen in this video.
I know I teared up at the end. Ollie is such an amazing buddy to have in your corner that's willing to see you through. Everyone has their struggles, but redemption is worth every minute of struggle.
You're not alone! Very emotional one to film, edit and watch back!
Well done Freddie, top work. What an achievement, inspiring story. Ollie great support showing that we all need someone to get through.
One of the best stories yet. Freddie wow... that was off the chart inspiring, thank you for all the hard work an sharing with us.. no matter the speed or the distance or what place you might finish in, you are legend in my books. Ollie, as always you are a class act, chapeau to you
What an absolute legend. Absolutely incredible Freddie! You're an inspiration!
Keep it up!
Freddie's story hit very close to homeI'm hoping I can keep working to get where he is! Truly inspiring
Having experienced ‘darkness’ for several years I can relate and as I sit here on my Tacx training I can honestly say that I’m proud of you Freddie, you’re an inspiration…… Ollie you’re a Legend, putting others first and seeing them achieve their goals placing yourself aside….👌
I always say ‘Any day above the ground is a good day’…….keep it rolling out there Buddy 👍🇳🇿
Such a legend Freddy, You keep going lad. Ollie is ever the gentleman, you couldnt wish for a better riding partner to get you through that.
Congratulations, such a massive achievement 👏
Great to see the GCN family looking after you so well. We could all do with friends like Ollie 🥰
Keep on living the dream 👍🏼👏
Thank you.
Congratulations, Freddie. You not only proved to yourself you could do it, you inspired and uplifted so many people with your story and perseverance.
What a great support you were, Ollie. He could not have done it without you, in so many mental and physical and coaching ways.
I think this is my favourite GCN video of all time.
Awesome Freddie. Kudos Ollie for the care and support shown all the way.
You got this👏👍
Absolutely brilliant! Loved this. Thank you for the honesty and vulnerability, Freddie, and a massive well done for such an epic achievement!
God Freddie, he is a star not only for this but beating and talking openly about his darker days. Huge respect to him and Kudos for Olie for his domestique duties. What a bloody video I feel honored to have watched it. Thank you Freddie and GCN!
Incredible story of resilience and friendship. Well done to all of you - Freddie and all of the supporters at GCN.
That was so much more than I was expecting. Incredible effort and and incredible story . Im going to go jump on the bike now, inspirational stuff !
Freddie: what a hero you are. Overcoming the odds and proving you`re everything but weak. So amazing and inspirational.
He's a legend! Glad you enjoyed it, Paul!
Wow! The honesty in this video is really refreshing. Definitely feeling a bit emotional watching it. Really inspiring Freddie, well done mate. 👊
Welling up here at 13 minutes 😭
This is the best GCN I’ve watched.
Superb.
Well done to Freddie, an amazing story.
And Freddie- YOU DID IT! you rode the same 312km! great work!
Thank you for watching! We were all so proud of Freddie for this
Freddie, awesome effort.
Bri
Thank you so much!
By far the best GCN video I've ever watched, better than the normal sponsored stuff. Well done Freddy hats off to you!!!
.....apart from the singing. 🤣
