Good information, so thanks for posting. I thought for sure you would’ve mentioned the 102 Whip or the ‘bad to the bone’ K-1-17. 🤷♂️
Wilson Antenna’s fill up with water as soon as you get into rain .when the whip is going back and forth the plastic cracks and it’s done.I’ve contacted Wilson and their solution was to buy another antenna
Cmon there are still base operators out here and would like real life comparisons of the base antennas availible
I learned how to build a dipole antenna 30 years ago from a veteran god bless veterans.
My favorite is the Hustler HQ-27, best cb antenna for dump trucks and as long you trim the whip down for a proper tune, you'll get very close to 1:1 and amazing range. The HQ-27 takes the abuse of tree limbs and going under asphalt silos. The Wilsons I find are decent but have to be adjusted every so often and of course, I dont know much about Strykers, but hear they are really good, I dont know how well the coil housing will take getting wacked by the I-beam that sits before silos. I'm looking at getting two Hustler SCB antennas for the Peterbilt 567 tandem dump truck as the fiberglass ones on there absolutely suck. The only fiberglass antenna I can reliably back is the Francis brand.
I just bought a Sirio ML-145 with a mag mount for use in by vehicle. Is it any good (I have not yet tested it out due to work) I cant seem to find much on the www about it's performance, from users and not claims by manufacturer
I have the same on my ram...Wicket good....All it really needs is a better coax and water proofing..
@@craig_sez8534 Thanks. I bought one but I am not getting the SWR below about 2:1 - I suspect the 5meter coax that came with the magnet base is too long, should have opted for the 4meter length.
@@WillieJu length shouldnt matter....How are you measureing?
Where is the antenna sitting, are you approx 100ft from any obstruction(light poles, cars, houses ect)...Has your set up gotten wet or wet under it?
@@craig_sez8534 I am using an external SWR meter, and I placed the antenna in the middle of my truck's roof. Not close to any obstructions. Everything is dry. When I add two clip on ferrite beads where the coax comes out the mag base, the SWR is a bit better.
@@WillieJu hhhmmmmm..Ferrites are intended for noise.....Did you try trimming the whip at all?
I cant see why swr is so high..Whats the reading driect from radio without the ext meter..That might be the issue..
go with a 102 inch or a francis
For starters to get optimum performance stop mounting antennas on your window or the side of your truck . Nothing beats a 102 inch whip
The Wilson antennas have dead shorts in them. Cause wilson antennas was sold. The old Wilson antennas do not have this short.
I still like k40.. Guess I'm just old school 🤣... 73s
K40 is not old school antenna specialist big momma was more or less prototype of the large base load ,mobile antennas
I remember late 1970s when k40 was first introduced I was at a radio shop that ran 3 days of comparisons with fire stick 4'-5'-7-'
The stainless 9' whip and some lessor known two similar vehicles and similar mounts drove off down highway the antenna being compared was baseline and once started losing it the k40 took over and started there in most cases it handily beat all but the 9' stainless and usually by 7 miles!!
@@georgegetterdone896 yeah I get that I just like the K40... I've always had better luck in general with them
@@TwitchRadio the point of the story was that yes the k40 did the surprising better job over almost all but the >9' whip and at that it was close to call the start up of the k40 at the end of the 9' whip run was little heard beyond
@@georgegetterdone896 must have read it wrong but I ain't got the general idea now lol.. another thing I like the bottom with how they Twisted right on and off of the trunk mount.. great for car washes🤣
@@TwitchRadio 1/4 snap turn I know I had one for a while it is easy to be stolen though not that it would really do someone any good if they don't already have the base like I said it is the follow redesign of the oldstyle " big momma" by antennas specialist company the fall back on that was the shorter whip
Mounting a quarter wave to your luggage rack is a really bad idea on so mdny levels.
I was thinking Wilson got lost at sea .... 🏐
DRX-4661 66" Driver Extreme, Made in USA .
Im willing to bet that you didn't test one antenna but are repeating what the manufacturer says one day at a truckstop and you can learn alot....
I had two Wilson 5000 antennas, they are junk they fill up with water they freeze cracks or the coil breaks. It was nice when it did work but I got two of them and within eight months they were bad
Thanks for your comment, which cb antennas do you recommend?
@@WhollyOutdoor I've got Wilson 2000 now. For some reason the casing for the coil seems to be a little bit better. I also got some silicone and put it around the seams so as an extra barrier of protection.
Need price
Wilson used to be a good antenna till they moved to China ..you failed to mention that today's antenna are made to fail in five years and will more and likely take out your radio along with.... nothing beets out a 102 whip....one of mine is over 30 years old and still strong
President WA-27
Thanks for sharing!
You Cant beat the 102" stainless steel Whip you shouldn't leave home without it.
I try other mobil antennas out of curiosity, I always go back to my 102" steel whip .
I refer to it over the years as. " the Duck Smacker "
Wilson antennas I find to be a royal bitch to get the swr below a 2 .
Not good enough for me , I want max power going through my antennas.
Sirio Megawatt 4000

Newer generation. Wilson antennas are junk!
Best budget antenna is the Tram 3500. Hands down!
Best antenna.. first shows a FIBERGLASS antenna... LOL, this guy has no idea about antennas!!! as soon as he showed that I knew he was clueless!!!!!!!! myself, Almost 50 years Antenna theory and Design under my belt!
And with all of this knowledge you recommend…..
ALWAYS STEEL!!! get a Wilson 1000 cant go wrong... spend the time gettin the SWR as low as possible@@RustyZipper
You better tell them to change that name to something else because that's my name and I'm planning on suing them tell them that I want them to change
haha sure but in any case prepare your lawyer! :)
Big truck mirror mount, a 102” steel whip, NO Spring, exactly 21” of grey coax cable, and a good ground from the mount to the frame will talk further and hear better any compact antenna ever made. Period. And, it will handle 1500 actual watts all day long. And your SWR meter will always be flat. Compact antennas are all but useless.
If all three, your radio, coax, and antenna, are 50 ohms… I’d make the coax as short as possible.
102” always wins
What. If you wrapped 408 inches of insulated silver coated copper on a whip changing direction several times.? The whip being neutral
Until you run into overhead live wires ......
Wilson is the best antenna hands down. They will handle power, very low swr.
Thanks for sharing!
Says top 5. That was only 3.
Sorry my mistake :(
this has to be an add. those antennas are a joke.
People are still using CB’s? 😂
You’d be surprised, I was. I recently got back onto cb this year. With the current skip conditions due to the solar cycle, I’ve spoken with operators all over the world.
@@01Mattman69 it would be nice if they would allow up to 50 watts.
CB radios never drop calls.😊
Why wouldn’t we be? If they turn off the phones today how would you make a call? Allot has changed in cb land like more options with newer radios but I can say it’s most definitely not dead and I think just like everything else it will come back like in the late 80s or early 90s but who knows I could be completely wrong but I hope not. It’s not dead in Ohio.
A. I. voicing sucks!!!!!!! I won't listen....
sorry about the voice but it's not AI :(
Sorry, the voice over just didn't sound natural.
