Ordro HDV-V12 Review: Is a $50 Ordro Camcorder a Good Value?

  • In this video I test out the $50 Ordro HDV-V12 Camcorder. I have tested more expensive Ordro cameras and strongly recommend against them. They are not cheap and there are many, far better options for the same or less money. I found the Ordro V12 for only $50 and decided to find out if a truly inexpensive Ordro Camcorder would be a good value.

      I use Ordro AC3's for my Paranormal Investigations. I have 2 versions of the AC3. The full package Ordro AC3 has more features like a telescopic view mode. The basic AC3 does not. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the 2 in 1 adapter... seems the mini usb loosens over time, and I have to buy new adapters every 2-3 years, or open up the camera and press in the little tabs on the female jacks in the camera. What is the best Chinese camcorders in your opinion?

    Hi!
    I'm currently looking for a retro camera. I watched your video and noticed the pros and cons you mentioned. I want to use the camera to record daily life while keeping that old-school aesthetic.
    I found one in the online market in my country for 150 reais (which I think is about 30 dollars). It's a bit challenging to find cameras here, and it took a lot of effort to find this listing. Do you think it's a good idea to buy it?

    Great video! I love your commentary on these cheap "brands". Question: Does this camera have a date/time stamp? I want to get one to do those 'choppy vintage home videos'. Unless you can recommend another camera 😊 Your insight would be very useful 👍

      Thanks. Most of these cameras have a date/time stamp option. I can't remember 100% that this one does, but I don't remember ever testing one that didn't. Most of them have it and default to having it turned on. But I don't specifically remember one way or the other with this one. I'll check if I get a chance.

    All Chinese Camcorders have that metal block weight for a cheap way of helping with stability. It's not just a Ordro calling card. I've taken Onshowy, FHD and Wilkera's apart... I'm sure Andoer and all the others do as well.

    • @bigtb1717
      @bigtb1717  3 роки тому +3

      I do realize other brands do the same thing. Many of the cameras are identical with different names stuck on it anyway. There are a few of these cheap cameras out there that don't have blocks of metal in them, but most do. But I don't buy for a second that they do it for stability. Ordro initially told me the same thing in an email, before all but admitting they did it so the camera wouldn't feel like a toy. A few ounces of weight isn't going to make a noticeable difference in stability. Unless you are talking a lot of weight or weight extended out to increase the moment arm, a bit of weight alone won't make much difference. All of these cameras claim to have digital image stabilization, but they don't. If they cared about stability they would make the digital image stabilization work. I firmly believe the reason for the metal blocks is the fact that these cameras are basically web-cams in a camcorder shell and they would feel far too light if they didn't have them.

    These types of cameras are bad! I been buying up old pocket camcorders like the Flips or Kodak pocket cams from 2011 and they have far better image quality and are cheaper. Some even have mic jacks and shoot real 1080p and even better 720p @60fps. Great content!

    Some good camera for video under 50 bucks? I was thinking in the Canon Powershot SX150 Is.... It is good????

    • @bigtb1717
      @bigtb1717  3 роки тому +2

      A camera like the SX150 IS will have a better lens, image stabilization, autofocus, optical zoom and everything will likely work as designed. So in those ways it will be far better than any of these generic camcorders. Image quality and sound quality probably won't be amazing, but great for $50 if you can find one for that. It will be far better than the HDV-V12.

  • @krollpeter
    @krollpeter 2 роки тому +2

    It is possible to produce a $ 50 camcorder which does take better and probably acceptable videos. Although, it would have no features and only very basic settings.
    If they did that and said honestly this is not a professional camera but just a standard camcorder to record some memories in bright sunlight, it might be what some would be looking for.

    • @bigtb1717
      @bigtb1717  2 роки тому +1

      That's kinda what I've been hoping for out of these camcorders. Something that simply records video. No frills and cheap, but works. I was hoping this camera would have been that. But there were just unfortunate issues.

    Hi I'm looking for a cheap camera that can handle exstream heat, only plan on it lasting for 1 summer , have you got Any suggestions.

    • @bigtb1717
      @bigtb1717  Рік тому

      Action cameras tend to be durable and should hold up to high temps, however, they will overheat if you record at high resolution and framerates for very long at a stretch. Camcorders in general are pretty good for higher temps, but I don't have any personal experience at in extreme high temps. But if you need to record for long stretches at a time, camcorders are a good bet.
      Might be worth looking for something used.
      Other than holding up to high temps, what features are important? Zoom, stabilization, image quality, wide angle, etc.?

    if i was buying this to make a short film made to look bad, would it be worth it? Cause i think so but not too sure about the battery life or anything

    • @bigtb1717
      @bigtb1717  2 роки тому +2

      Possibly, but there are some things to consider. First, audio is often poor at best on these cheep cameras. Sometimes it won't even show up at all, depending on what editing software you use. I've also had occasional issues with odd frame rates and odd file formats. I've had memory card glitches, cameras freezing/locking up, weak battery holders that can allow the battery to pop free.
      Some are better than others, but the quality is inconsistent. Basically, it might work just fine for what you want, but there's always a slight risk when buying something like this.
      Battery life typically sits around a hour on these types of cameras. Also a bit inconsistent. I've had some last much less than an hour, but it could have been a battery issue or something like that. An hour or so is common.

    not sure if you will see this, but i want to by a cheap camera like this with a screen that flips open like this one not for any like UA-cam vlogging but just to kind of document some highlights of my young years, because im 15 i want to record some special moments i guess, like my birthdays friends and just stuff i could look back too in a couple years, and i actually want the camera quality to be like this and i just had a few questions like with the screen that shows what the camera is showing does that flip the other way so if you wanted to record yourself would you be able to flip the screen the other way so you can see what the camera is seeing while its pointing at you if you get what i mean or can you only see it by having to stand behind the camera, because ive found the exact same one around the same price but i just wanted to know if it did that and what battery and memory cards i would need because i have no clue about cameras, sorry for the long paragraph!!:)
