I am a mother and grandmother, I know absolutely nothing about fishing. I watched your video, went to Walmart and purchased the items in your video. About one hour later I caught my very first Bass! I was so surprised! I am hooked on fishing! Thank for your tips!
Dude my son and I are the exact same age as you and your son. Tomorrow he turns 7 years old and wants a fishing rod as a gift. I have no clue about fishing. Never been taught. But we will both be learning. Hope your trip went well. I'm watching this video in the Walmart parking lot before I go in. Thankful for this video!
Rod/reel combo with fishing kit as an emergency setup ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxntWMOZsO1Zfv-pdn_XuffEtNkTYAYu4Z recommend but started to use this every day. The rod is thick and seems durable. I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.
I'm a boy mom and he wants to go fishing. I haven't fished since I was a little girl with my grandfather. I wrote down the list of items that you suggested. Wish us luck!!
These are really great beginner videos. It seems like second nature once you do it for a while, but it's easy to forget how bad we all were when we start. Had a buddy who told me he did stuff like use huge sinkers while panfishing, lol. I, myself, had no idea what to do with most lures. I used to throw out frogs into open deep water and just reel them steadily back, lol. Vids like this are great for just showing the basics of how to start and not look like a fool. Nice work!
Love your practical videos.I am 63 and been using spincast reels my whole life. They may not look cool but I have caught a lot of nice fish and have eaten good. Keep up the good work.
This is making my life so much easier, thank you! I'm thinking of getting back into the fishing game. The last time I went, I was maybe 12... My Dad used to bring me all the time. I always had a blast. I'd like to do it on my own now, but I had no clue where to start. Excellent tips.
I love this video! its to the point without all the filler nonsense. ive been wanting to learn how to fish for a while but i remember when i was a kid all the gear and prep my dad had to go through for fishing and it was turning me off from learning. but if i can have a little set up like this in my car at all times to fish when the mood strikes me then im going tomorrow to get the gear.
I have watched alot of these walmart challanges and most are all about bass fishing. It's not hard to spend 20 on some worm jigs and hooks but you actually gave a nice variety of choices for all sorts of fish. I have a bit of experiance throughout my life of catching freshwater fish it's nice to see a little more than just bass advice like most the others do.
Great video..thank you very much. I am 37 and just getting into a fishing hobby. I got a ugly stik and reel combo. Your video helped me to get a holistic understanding of the next steps.
fished before but never really took it seriously. Watched this video and bought exactly what you bought. I used the inline spinner and caught a catfish for the first time. Thank you!
“The problem with closed faced (reels) is that they get water in them and they just don’t last very long.” Um, grasshopper, what are you doing? Throwing the whole rod and reel in the water? I’m currently fishing with one of the cheap Zebco 404 combos I bought almost 30 years ago along with a couple of others my dad bought close to 20 years ago. I have my grandmother’s Zebco 33 and 202 reels from the 1950s or 60s that I found in some of my dad’s outside storage. She was an avid fisher. The 202 was on its original pole, caked in years of dust from the elements. It still had the line. I decided to throw it to see if it still worked, and it cast beautifully across the yard and then reeled in like it always did. The line broke but the reel worked. I took it apart, cleaned out the old grease and grime, oiled and greased it and put it back together and it is like a new one (neither one look like they’d ever had this done). I’m now looking for an appropriate rod to put it on. I’m going to clean up the 33 next (even though it works just fine as well). For beginners if you want to frustrate them right away, recommend that open faced spinning reel. The 2nd rats nest they have to untangle or cut out, they’ll throw that thing in the dumpster. But a simple push button spin cast reel is simple and cheap, especially for beginners. The 404 combo is currently priced at $16.88, and you can get a 33 combo for $24.88. I just bought the new 404 combo just to test it out and while it could use better line, I caught several bluegill (we call them bream) the first time out. I WILL have to try that spinner bait you’re using.
Very helpful.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 thank you very much. I have been using some old rods and reels with line that is probably 30 years old. I was tired of breaking off on the smallest of fish so I took to UA-cam and this is the video that did it for me. I spent under $50 at my local Walmart and caught a 3 pound bass only days later. I cannot thank you enough for teaching me the basics of fishing. You got me hooked (no pun intended) and I am exited to share what I have learned with all of my friends. I wish you luck on your next fishing adventure and I hope to see more videos from you in the future. Thank you again and have a wonderful day.
J.T. Cooper I recently moved to a town that only had a Wal-Mart. I slayed 3-6 pound large mouth all day long last winter on that exact ugly stick combo. Just keep the reel oiled up nice and I'm pretty conident that $40 investment would last year's and year's.
I’ve watched googan squad for a long time and would love to fish but didn’t know how. I’ve watched your vids and understand why I can’t catch fish in the Ohio river where I am
@@lucaspacheco3631 It doesn't say salt water use on it, but plenty of people have used them for salt water. Just keep it clean by rinsing it with fresh water and grease and oil it regularly.
Very helpful video! Thanks. 🙂 I used to fish all the time when I was younger, but it’s been 23 years and I have forgotten a lot of this stuff. Excited to bring my daughters fishing soon!
Here’s a better tip. Buy a rod and reel set up (Spinning preferably). Take all the line off and go to you’re local tackle shop and they will spool you up for 3$.
Nah, I like to learn and do everything myself. I learned how to take apart and setup my own guitar last year, now I'm great at it. I'm going to learn how to set up my fishing gear and hunting bow this year.
Correct, no bobber or sinker needed. Just tie the inline spinner on by itself. Cast the inline spinner out and reel in just fast enough to keep the blades spinning. Just casting over and over again to different spots with an inline spinner. Best of luck fishing!
The south bend setup is a great little setup. Super fun to fight small bass on it. But I would recommend changing out the line for some trilene or trout sos. The original line has a lot of memory and gets tangled easily.
This video was great, and just what i needed. Just getting started fishing again now that my boys are a little older and want me to take them fishing. I feel so much better about knowing what we need to get started. Thank you so much and I love your channel.
I want to try this, but memories from childhood of poking my fingers on the hooks. It gave me a fear. Could i wear gloves or something as a beginner to prevent injuries until I’m more confident?
Very charming and helpful little video! Keep em up man! 😁 Sadly I can't look at a box of inline spinners without thinking of all the spinners I've built myself. 😅
Thank you so much for this! I want to learn how to fish and your videos are super straight forward and easy to understand! I appreciate it, man. Hope you post again soon!

Spincast can work well too. I actually caught a 50lb blue catfish earlier this year on a large spincast reel. Good luck fishing this summer!
Zebco is only been making the spincast for about 65 yrs + I guess the rust out so often
I love nonpretentious videos like yours that don't look snobby or look down on beginners. Bravo.
