Jeep fanboy alert! You cannot ignore the price differential. This car is at least $30k cheaper than just about everything else directly comparible...they have done a great job bringing this to market at this pricepoint. It looks to be very customisable too, and some companies are already all over it with after-market options. There is a Russian/Australian dude who posted a Russian site teardown of the tank 300 and it came out of that assessment very well. For sure, some things could be improved but this a great option for someone who doesn't have the coin for a jeep or toyota. I think this is a really great thing to see....and it has a 7/5 year unlimited mileage warranty depending on location......not too shabby.

Just gonna leave this here for the Jeep fanboys "It's a Jeep thing" could potentially be a response to having to spend more time in the dealership's repair shop. Jeep is ranked No. 23 out of 24 automakers for reliability for 2023. Unlike some manufacturers on this list, it's not because of a significant drop. Jeep was ranked No. 22 in CR's 2022 list. CR puts it simply: "Most Jeep models do not have strong reliability."
You are are correct… but it’s not the wrangler that’s responsible for poor Jeep reliability stats, it’s other models like compass and Cherokee. The wrangler, especially the Rubicons are actually very well built in the US. Many others are built outside the US and certainly seem to have poorer quality standards. This is my second wrangler, and neither have been anything short of a battle axe. Please remember this is an off-roading channel. Yeah the Tank probably doesn’t drive like an elephant on the road like a wrangler. But the Rubicon will run rings around the tank in serious offroad conditions. This is not a matter of opinion. The Rubicon is built from the ground up for capability, compromising other things to achieve it.
@@operation4wheelz that’s false there are dozens of reviews and UA-cam videos showing many off road competitions and long drives off road and many times the tank 300 has come out much better than competitors and the wrangler is one of them . Some other guy took a stock tank 300 to Loveday adventure park in SA for off road test. For sure is not the best in the market but produced got results. In a further video the guy do mention some of the weaknesses and exposed parts under the car
I currently own a 2013 Rubicon and knows it's pros and cons. Ordered a Tank 300 hybrid. Can't wait! If Jeep bothered to bring the 4xe Wrangler to Aus I may have stuck with it. But seriously at $30000+ less than a new Rubicon? PS. You compare your already modifier Wrangler (yellow shocks giveaway) with a stock Tank 300. $30000 buy a lot of mod!
Not saying all points are invalid, and some are good points, but calling it poor man's Jeep is a little too much. I guess if you pay more than $30k more than the next person who have a flashier and more modern vehicle, it in human nature to be a little sour about it.
Hi mate. What I said was “The poor man pays twice”. My point in the video was the difference saving $30k will cost you in terms of engineering. Perhaps I should have articulated it better, but I was only comparing to the Jeep because that’s what is sitting in my driveway. We feature all sort of vehicles on the channel.
Great video. Personally i thought it was unbiased and glad that you didnt get political and hate the car just because its from China. You explained the pain points and even provided video evidence too . I think the tank 300 is still great value for what you pay for and the reality is that most aussies cant afford a wrangler, landcruiser etc so this is going to be great cheaper alternative.
Even if you were so negative about the Tank 300, it won't change the fact that this car, if without biased (said by another offroad youtuber), could be the car of the year. I get that everyone hates Chinese car, or SUV, or offroader. That's OK, we used to hate German cars, then we hated Japanese car in the 80th, then we have Korean car in the 90s, you guys didn't remember xCel without airbags? Now we hate Chinese Car?? What do we have? Or wait, we will start building Nuclear subs, Yeah!!!
So many comparisons with the jeep, so compare a fuel guzzling V8 diesel at $90K, to a 4cyl petrol at $50k. The engine being forward seems like a good idea, seems easier to work on.
Ideally to you want the engine as close the middle of vehicle as possible, this improves its handling on and off-road. That’s why vehicles have gone down this path. It’s not the 70s anymore. But as I said in the video, yes it’s probably easier to work on. Not sure what you’re getting at about the v8 diesel. Maybe I’ve been misunderstood but this video isn’t really comparing this vehicle to others, just the consequences of reducing cost so significantly. This vehicle has a front locker, which is cool. But other then that, it’s-a cheap car that comes with standard features.
Jeep are so confident in their product they give it a 5 year 100000 km warranty. They know it won’t make 100000 km in five years because it will spend most of its time at the dealer. 5 years unlimited km is the standard these days.
Greetings from Thailand. 2O Years before I got TJ and YJ in Germany and I love them. Now in Thailand the new Jeep Rubicon costs me 115,000 $ and GWM is selling the new Tank 300 2024 ULTRA Hybrid for 48,000 $ with 5 years warranty on the full car and free services and 8 years on the battery. Car comes with front and rear div looks and does a pretty good job online on the island Phuket and Kho Phangan. Last but not least the service treats you like a royal customer compared to Honda or Toyota and the new Tank shows several improvement like skid plates and better brakes per example…
Have owned multiple jeeps and they just always broke down. No matter what i did. One had never even been offroad and always kept my pockets empty. Drove a tank 300 and after 12 hours went back to the dealership and bought the ultra. I know what ill be doing with the extra 30k. Dont be so biased with your hate against chinese cars. If its a good car, its a good car period.
Mate, what are you trying to prove? Stick to your junk Jeep because you cannot even differentiate between bad paint job and clear sprayed on underbody protection. And with that nuff said...
You seem a little stressed mate. Maybe go to a different channel that doesn’t upset you so much. Or just sit here contributing to the algorithm like a boss. Up to you
The truth is we don't really know yet about the diff and suspension strength and reliability. The Asians and Russians are wheelin' these hard, but not sure about any problems they might have. Lets wait and see.
The Wrangler is definitely more capable out of the box, especially with a solid front axle. I do find if people are going to use theirs more on-road (with the occaisonal off-road journey) than majority off-road, the Tank is probably the better option for them. It's great to see more options in the class however, and fingers crossed the Tank proves itself over time! I wish Jeep would re-introduce a cheaper Sport grade or something alike again for those who don't need all the lux features :(
Yeah Jeep has certainly made a mess of marketing in Australia, or maybe more accurately, stuffed up what they think aussies want. The 2.2 diesel in mine is an absolute gun of a little engine. But they priced themselves out of the market with it, asking an extra 5k… but… in saying that, we probably only account for 2% of their market here. 🤷♂️
My last quite soft offroad trips would have crashed the exhaust pipe every single time. Probably also rip off some of these cables. What a pain it would be for saving 30k.
@@operation4wheelz not even. Chinese cars have been bad mouthed ever since. The Chinese have improved and that's the reality many people decide ignore and yes the Tank will be bulletproof with minor issues to give attention to while the jeep as we all know it, will fall apart.
Lol. No engineering thats why there is space there, there is engineering and that's why there is space there for the electric motor so it can destroy the jeeps in terms of power and torque.
Before I make any comment T300 giving between 7 and 10 year warranty with unlimited mileage depends where you live, I am sure Wrangler cant beat that?!! This guy is simply jeep boy, if you see how he responds to peoples comments it will be obvious for everyone... Bay the way i drove Wrangler 2016 sport version two door over two years, every weekend bashing dunes, regular maintenance, pay now and than for some fixes but nothing serious or major so yes Jeep Wrangler is better car but also it's double expensive thank T300 and for most of the people T 300 will serve well because they might go for off-road once in 3-6 months. I am going to buy Tank 300 next month and i believe there will be no regrets. Already seen couple of people driving it here in middle east and bay the way 10 year unlimited
Not sure how long the Tank 300 has been released for local motoring in China before they started exporting it as certainly there are some glaring improvements to be done such as the lifting of the rear wheels on sudden braking etc...
Yeah. Exactly… and hence why I pointed out the motor being unnecessary far forward, it’s the exact kind of thing that it gonna cause the rear wheels to lift like that. Weight forward of the front axle cause weight to come off the rear axle. Harsh braking is gonna make that weight shift very obvious.
Probably. But it’s still a sign of cost cutting in the engineering department. Other manufacturers make the effort to make different engines package properly and having the engine as rearward as possible is good for the vehicles COG. It’s things like this that contribute to issues like the rear wheels lifting off the ground under harsh breaking like it does.
I won't defend GWM. I "hope" that they have taken shortcuts - because otherwise, their pricing would be truly shocking. Even so, they have come a long way - and we should keep in mind that they are also using Western engineers for their designs. e.g Andrew Collinson worked for GWM at the time (Head of Design). Prior to GWM, he worked for Ford and Jaguar. Raul Pires (SVP Design) worked for Audi and Italdesign. So the times of "Chinese crap" are mostly over.

Jeep fan boy, the gap in engine bay is because it is also a hybrid model. It is not a parts bin mode L from ute, it is a Haval H9 with different bodyshell, ute I'd derived from the H9
Some fair comments ; looked at and test drove the 300 Hybrid recently; looked underneath and yes - it looks a bit cheap with finish / actual quality sure dosnt match a jeep as he points out Same goes for inside - materials generally look somewhat budget But , the drive experience, in terms of ride and handling dynamics on both sealed to moderately rough dirt roads - pretty damn good Quick nimble steering with decent feel , quality ride comfort on shitty serfaces stood out for me ; the vehicle simply does not feel like 2.2 ton for the hybrid !!! The tech that everyone raves about - well its ok but got some rough edges ( dosnt work at all i.e lane keep assist etc) Driven 4 or 5 Jeeps post 2020 models - agree that inside & out - quality of finish / paint & materials look substantially better - i love the Gladiator especially.... But in all honesty , driving dynamics and ride of the tank - compared to a wrangler especially, is better on road & and perhaps closer off it than we cud say .... And , the 80 k plus for one - vs low 5o s for the hybrid tank - i can see the appeal ....its a tough call In all honesty , if the price diff was 15 to 20 k only - id go the jeep every time , but - 30 to 40 k - whew......tough
Yes these point are all true. The wrangler/gladiator ride at speed is comprised. But this is because it’s focused for off-road use with solid axles etc.
Looking at the extra space in the tank 300, is there enough room in there for a barra swap? I also would be interested in the weight distribution of the car with the engine mounted this way.
Can't be any worse than the absolute shitbox JEEP I owned for 6 years and $8,000.00 worth of out of warranty costs. Jeeps sales in Australia and the United States have absolutely tanked (I know). Other reviews in Australia by non-Journos, including reviews of the undercarriage and a Russian review where they strip the vehicle have been positive
@@operation4wheelz US built Cherokee. Jeep is an absolute liability waste of money. I'm not alone in that view, sales figures in Australia, the United States and Canada support that view.
After having two lemons (wrangler and a cherokee) , you couldn't pay me another one of those junks. Remember, Lane Rover was born because Willy's Jeeps were so crap that the Brits had enough putting up with it...
New to this- whats the issue of having small diff - weight reduction perhaps, and the engine being forward- maybe thats how it achieved 5ancap rating stars, ? who knows
Smaller diffs means smaller, weaker components. The engine I likely mounted so far forward because is and also designed to have a separate hybrid engine, however these things can still be engineered if cost isn’t such an issue. The chassis is a donor from a Ute and not specifically designed for this platform. It all comes down to $$$. I’m not saying it’s a bad car, I’m saying that people need to understand this is still a compromise at the cost it is. And there’s really nothing remarkable about it. The front locker is a nice addition though.

Sorry to rain on your parade but, having been a jeep owner in the past I was awake to the plethora of potential mechanical issues that can destroy the new car ownership bliss. That is why I did a whole lot of research before buying my Tank 300. The owners forums speak of very few issues and so far it's the best car I've ever owned. With a seven year, unlimited K warantee I'm feeling fairly confident. By the way, differential size is due to the reduction ratio. It has no relationship to strength. I know you love your Jeep and I did too when I had mine but unfortunately when the gearbox blew up, and it was loosing coolant from somewhere... and the windows didn't work, and the oil pressure warning was going off for no reason, and the front axle seals were gone, and the air con wasn't working for the third time I was forced to give ith to a wrecker.
Tank 300 is for those ppl who simply wants a big toy, a cheap platform yet reliable enough for off and on road, then mod the hell out of it beyond recognition. You must be out of your mind if you want it as a 9-5 car.
Crap you should drive one, I am quite happy to have dumped my Jeep TJ. The body is dip painted, Best paint job I have ever seen. See a paint drip at the bottom good they did not spare the paint.
I would love to see a comparison V the Mahindra Scorpio N. I would probably pick the scorpio because it is diesel. Have driven one and was impressed. Haven't driven a Tank 300 yet
I really enjoyed reading the tank owners' butthurt comments. I think the car is fine for what it is, most won't take it for severe off-roading. Will be mostly dropping kids off at school. Personally, it's a nope from me, just seeing the back wheels lift up during heavy breaking +GVM and not ready to give my end $ to a company that is based in a country that hurts our exports anytime we say something bad against them and does genocide towards its own people +their wolf diplomacy. I have basic morals and am not about to drop them to save a buck.
I reckon the gap behind the motor is something to do with the hybrid version and the hybrid stuff will fill that space. Can see what you mean about the quality underneath
It’s very likely. I’ll check out a hybrid one when I find one. I think the hybrid uses a different gearbox, maybe it’s shorter. So the engine can fit further back. In saying that, it still ultimately comes down to $$$. How much are ya will to spend on it engines, and making them fit neatly and integrate it with the chassis . Eg Jeep has about 6 different engines that are all mated to the same gearbox.
A lot of this commentary is nit picking in my opinion. I don't think it was designed to compete with a Jeep in its standard form. Nobody wants Jeeps for good reason . Look at the sales figures. I used to work at a Volkswagen factory when VWs were still good cars. The stuff underneath is called stone chip sealer and in those days QC would not write up a fault for a sealer.drip underneath . I saw Jeep gladiators new for sale a few months ago for about $90k. Now they are on special for $69k. Because they have one of the worst reputations around. Stop comparing this new way of looking at things to a failed brand. American cars are not good and are unreliable. As for snall diffs, well have they broken yet? Seems like an odd video point of view. Not comparing apples with apples. Ive recently bought a tank300 and i couod have bought a Jeep.
Hands down no brainer this is !!. The GWM is 100% better than any Jeep…..read the reviews and forums. But…If I wanted a 4WD to do a constant heavy duty job I wouldn’t be buying either of these, the GWM because they probably don’t have the infrastructure in place to service and acquire parts in the outback as yet (but the day will come) and certainly not a Jeep because they are unreliable and expensive to work on….once again…read the reviews.
The city I lived in bought several new busses that were manufactured in China, because the local builders were fully booked up. After just ONE year, cracks were found in the chassis of many of those busses, and they had to be taken off the road for repairs. (This was in about 2017). It's some way off before I'll be buying or relying on anything made in China, if it involves health or safety.
Yeah I'm not convinced re the quality of their steel; the fuel economy is questionable & other reviews have been concerned with its 'bunny hopping' when attempting an emergency stop. If these problems were to be fixed then the Tank 300 would be a serious contender.
I was hopeing for a PHEV but unfortunately they are only importing the HEV. I believe that has to do with taxing pure EVs as they don;t pay petrol excise which pays for the roads.
To all the Jeep haters, if you google Jeep reliability, you will find that is scores average ( JD Power ), plenty of brands worse . Also we have had zero issues with the two in our family, 100 000 km and 230 000 km one is a Cherokee and the other is a Grand Cherokee.

Hi mate. Thanks for the positive feedback. This video has certainly struck a nerve with some. If you’re familiar with my channel, you’ll know the Jeep works pretty hard. I certainly haven’t had any major issues at all. At worst, just some water or grit in an electrical contact with the FAD, but this was easily solved with a quick spray with contact cleaner. If you bother to research deeply you will be amazed the amount of High tensile steel use on the Tank is no joke, Ncap rating for both vehicles won't lie. Meanwhile we have seen enough twist transmission shaft, sluggish steering, crab gear box, dripping water pump, leaking engine oil, cracking sound of the interior you name it... came from a Chrysler wrangler😂 to me the Wrangler is no more than a rough tool, for tractor use for sure,

driven both new wrangler and the tank 300 i know what id choose and id save myself 30k. these gwms have come a long way the past few years and will start to impact the local market substantially in the next 12-24 months. just look how many cannons are around. ive owned one for 2 years and have driven every other duel cab still happy i went for the cannon. as soon as they bring in the bigger motors its game over imo.
The tank300 has also been built from ground up with some of the latest off road features available
@@operation4wheelz Horses for courses. I do a lot of highway miles and the Tank cruises just beautifully... and it's good offroad too. It depends on what you want.

Zero problems with the two in our family. 100 000 km and 230 000 km ZERO Problems.
We got to understand that Jeep and Tank are designed for different people in mind in terms of their motoring needs as well as their budget. I can forgive the Tank for its little shortcomings, its price is half the price of Jeep Wrangler. At its space(the tank), its good value for money.
You are correct. But people also need to be honest with themselves and stop calling this thing something it isn’t … there’s nothing amazing about it. It’s just a cheap modern 4wd and not a war hero as many are claiming it is. It comes with a front locker which is cool. But other than that.. what’s so amazing about it? There’s a million other better options for $50k out there… yes, you’re probably looking at second hand, but that not a bad thing as long as you’re not careless.
Jeep Wranglers are now way 30-50k better than a Tank.

You’re probably right. A lot of people in the comments here are coming in swinging. Which is fine because it helps my algorithm.

Maybe the extra space in the engine bay is to accommodate the electric motor for the hybrid?
Very likely.

Yeah Dash off-road. 👍
Nice
I ordered a tank 300 hybrid today also. Just wondering when they are coming in? It seems to have a bit of a delay at the moment ?
Not saying all points are invalid, and some are good points, but calling it poor man's Jeep is a little too much. I guess if you pay more than $30k more than the next person who have a flashier and more modern vehicle, it in human nature to be a little sour about it.
Hi mate. What I said was “The poor man pays twice”.
My point in the video was the difference saving $30k will cost you in terms of engineering.
Perhaps I should have articulated it better, but I was only comparing to the Jeep because that’s what is sitting in my driveway. We feature all sort of vehicles on the channel.
I own a tank 300 and a jeep jk. I like better the tank. Simple.
Thanks mate.
It’s a been a touchy subject 😂
Even if you were so negative about the Tank 300, it won't change the fact that this car, if without biased (said by another offroad youtuber), could be the car of the year.
Dunno mate. Mines been all over the counter and never skipped a beat. Nor did my JK.
Lol, none of mines I used to own made 100k, because I ended up selling them. Who has time spending time at the dealer for repairs? Not me...

Hopefully the better brakes combined with the poor vehicle dynamics don’t put you into the woods!!

The truth is we don't really know yet about the diff and suspension strength and reliability. The Asians and Russians are wheelin' these hard, but not sure about any problems they might have. Lets wait and see.
Seen plenty of footage of them being launched 😂

I am going to buy Tank 300 next month and i believe there will be no regrets. Already seen couple of people driving it here in middle east and bay the way 10 year unlimited
I only reply to the comments because it’s the only way to acquit the notification.
The extra space at the rear of the engine may relate to the hybrid engine option?
@@operation4wheelz That extra space is problematic?
@@dh6rm3sh yes… it’s conducive to poor handling. And I suspect significantly contributes to the heavy braking issues they have.

In all fairness, if you're going to compare it to a Jeep, it's more like the Cherokee KK style and size.
You’re right. But I was just using the Wrangler as an example of what happens when bigger $$$ is spent.
Some fair comments ; looked at and test drove the 300 Hybrid recently; looked underneath and yes - it looks a bit cheap with finish / actual quality sure dosnt match a jeep as he points out
Same goes for inside - materials generally look somewhat budget
But , the drive experience, in terms of ride and handling dynamics on both sealed to moderately rough dirt roads - pretty damn good
Quick nimble steering with decent feel , quality ride comfort on shitty serfaces stood out for me ; the vehicle simply does not feel like 2.2 ton for the hybrid !!!
The tech that everyone raves about - well its ok but got some rough edges ( dosnt work at all i.e lane keep assist etc)
Driven 4 or 5 Jeeps post 2020 models - agree that inside & out - quality of finish / paint & materials look substantially better - i love the Gladiator especially....
But in all honesty , driving dynamics and ride of the tank - compared to a wrangler especially, is better on road & and perhaps closer off it than we cud say ....
And , the 80 k plus for one - vs low 5o s for the hybrid tank - i can see the appeal ....its a tough call
In all honesty , if the price diff was 15 to 20 k only - id go the jeep every time , but - 30 to 40 k - whew......tough
😂
Put a 6.7 Cummins in it
It handles perfectly. Neutral cornering... No obvious oversteer or understeer. I love it.

It’s not
New to this- whats the issue of having small diff - weight reduction perhaps, and the engine being forward- maybe thats how it achieved 5ancap rating stars, ?

Sorry.....how much did you pay for your Wrangler. How is this a comparison?

Interesting. I might do some research and see if it’s an issue in Australia
Yep. Definitely some questionable stuff coming from there
Yeah I'm not convinced re the quality of their steel; the fuel economy is questionable & other reviews have been concerned with its 'bunny hopping' when attempting an emergency stop. If these problems were to be fixed then the Tank 300 would be a serious contender.
What you pay is what you get.

Is GWM planning on releasing an EV version of Tank 300??
There is a hybrid version
