Actually in the manga, Tsukki says "you can boo my crappy serve all you want ." It's less that tsukki has developed great mental fortitude and more that he's amused at how much effort they're putting into his average serve😂
The thing that Atsumu says when he set the ball to do a freak quick with his brother is exactly what Kageyama said the first time him and Hinata did the freak quick. "This position, this timing, this angle, It's perfect!". Just thought that was a fun detail
@@ElevateYourselfOfficial Keep Karasuno's matches with Aoba Johsai in mind for this game. They make a lot of indirect comparisons to it, escpecially at the end.
It's obviously meant to be a callback, but the lines actually differ slightly from each other in the original japanese. The lines in japanese (as written in the manga) are: Kageyama: "この位置! このタイミング! この角度で!! ドンピシャ!!!" ("Kono ichi! Kono taimingu! Kono kakudo de!! Donpisha!!!"), literally something like: "This position! This timing! With this angle!! Right on!!!" Atsumu: "この位置 頃合い この角度 どんぴしゃり" ("Kono ichi Koroai Kono kakudo Donpishari"), which is something like "This position Good timing This angle Right on" The meaning is basically the same, but they aren't identical. (Just went back to double check, and Kageyama doesn't actually say "It's perfect/right on" the first time they do the freak quick in the anime during the practice game in episode 4, just "This position, this timing, this angle". It is there in the original manga and at the end of the first Seijo game though.)
@@guff_tm The translations are slightly off, Kageyama usually said "This timing," but Atsumu's is "This speed" which I think is perfect because of how the Miya twins freak quick is more akin to the original version of Kageyama and Hinata's where Hinata just swung on blind faith as quickly as he could.
Coach this was officially the start of the 2nd half of the season 4, that's why there's a new opening. This episode aired 6 months apart from episode 13 because production was delayed due to covid and some personnel shifts that happened. This half of the season is when people start to complain about the drastic change in animation quality.
@@ElevateYourselfOfficial Just to give a heads up, the next episode is the infamous one which was outsourced to another studio and so the animation quality will take a nosedive for that episode. However, it does get better from 17 and mostly stays consistent after it.
@@ElevateYourselfOfficial Also you gotta imagine watching episode 13, seeing Atsumus killer serve, Hinata unlocking his new jump potential for the first time and then you get left hanging at the start of the match so you have to wait 6 months for the match to continue. Those were the hardest 6 months ever for me, but it was 100% worth it even with the dropoff in animation quality, since at least in my opinion the writing, character progression and just straight up epicness of the match skyrocketed through the roof. This part of Season 4 is definitely my favorite, there are so many moments I will never forget and cry emphasizing athlete tears everytime I watch them. I hope you can enjoy these episodes as much as I did, despite the quality dropoff, because sometimes it looks real bad even though it's supposed to be a high budget quality animation where someone does something epic, you just gotta accept it and go for the feel of the whole scene. Love your content as always Coach, big love to you
24:14 He's Daisho Suguru, the captain of Nohebi Academy who fought against Nekoma in the OVA! Remember that at the start of the OVA Kuroo mocked Suguru about his recent breakup, and how at the end of 2nd ep of the OVA, Mika (the ex-girlfriend), approached Suguru and told him she finally understood why Suguru was so serious about volleyball, and asked him if he'll teach her to play sometime. Now that they appear together in this scene, it's confirmed that they got back together! They're a super cute couple, and will provide commentary from here on out, so don't forget them, Coach!
"That's like an anime poster coming to life" - funnily enough, the visuals you're seeing in that moment are actually from the manga illustration for this match! I went to the Spring tournament a couple of years ago, the last time they allowed the audience, and the students' bands and orchestras were absolutely insane. About Saeko's frustration - she's referring to the Shiratorizawa game, where Karasuno's cheer squad was completely overwhelmed by Shiratorizawa's. This match is absolutely insane when it comes to its impact, can't wait for future episodes!
What year did you go?! I got to go to the spring tournament in 2017 when I was stationed in Japan. It was intense!!! I also got to visit the Sendai Municipal Gymnasium where Karasuno played Seijo and Shiratorizawa. They actually had a Haikyuu display area with all the Karasuno jerseys and Furudate's signed manga panels. It was the coolest/ weebiest moment of my life lol
totally unrelated but i'm a follower from twitter and it's really neat to see you here in coach donny's comments! always fun to see the fandom love cross-platform :)
@@gachagenie Hiii, i would love to go to the nationals and watch. Do you know the date of nationals? or at least a guess? just to have it in mind. Maybe in a couple of years i will go to see it in person.
@@erikasalazar4609 yeah when i went it was held from Jan 4th to the 8th. Its usually around the first week in january. I went on the weekend for the the semifinals. It was really packed. It was super awesome getting to see the different cheer sections for all the teams and some teams had bands there as well. I definitely recommend going once if you're a haikyuu fan.
I just wanted to point out that the TV moments at the ending song actually changes with each episode, including the most notable plays from said episode. It's a very cool touch for the animation team to include and change with each and every episode, so if you're interested, I suggest sticking around for a few extra seconds when the ending song starts.
AHH I'm so excited for this!! "we don't need the memories" will be explained by end :) I was confused by it first too but the slogan turned out to be one of my faves
@@ElevateYourselfOfficial A more accurate translation of their banner would be 'We don't need (things like) memories'. So excited for you to react to the explanation! :D
Tanaka's sister is remembering when in S3, during the Shiratorizawa match, her cheering was overwhelmed/coudln't be heard because of the opposing team's squad/band/cheerleaders. Now they have their own.
I guess that’s the downside of watching one episode per week. Lots of quick flashbacks and recalls are harder to remember because those episodes where months ago.
For the Tsuki serving moment the anime actual left out a line from the manga that explained why Tsuki was smirking. Tsuki's internal thoughts were basically laughing at the fact that they were going through all the effort to "disrupt [his] crappy serve". Since Tsuki is one of, if not, the weakest servers on Karasuno.
@@AllTheArtsy Tsuki doesn't miss his serves unlike Hinata lmao also *SPOILERS* . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . At the end of this match, Tsukki serves like Sugi where he gets serves close to the net which fucked the receiver up. Hinata isn't capable of that type of precise serve.
I really like this new ending because it shows "the losers", the teams that didn't make to the national. They are watching, they want to know they lost to the best team possible, and they are still training, tournament ended but the game goes on
Since you mentioned that Atsumu must be pretty tall, I figure now is a good time to go over everyone’s height Inarizaki: #2 Ren Omimi (MB) - 191.5cm / 6’3.4” #4 Aran Ojiro (OH) - 184.7cm / 6’0.7” #5 Hitoshi Ginjima (OH) - 180.3cm / 5’11” #7 Atsumu Miya (S) - 183.6cm / 6’0.3” #10 Rintaro Suna (MB) - 185.7cm / 6’1.1” #11 Osamu Miya (OP) - 183.8cm / 6’0.4” #15 Michinari Akagi (L) - 174.2cm / 5’8.6” Karasuno: #1 Daichi Sawamura (OP) - 176.7cm / 5’9.6” #3 Asahi Azumane (OH) - 186.4cm / 6’1.4” #4 Yu Nishinoya (L) - 160.5cm / 5’3.2” #5 Ryunosuke Tanaka (OH) - 178.2cm / 5’10.2” #9 Tobio Kageyama (S) - 181.9cm / 5’11.6” #10 Shoyo Hinata (MB) - 164.2cm / 5’4.6” #11 Tsukishima (MB) - 190.1cm / 6’2.8” So Inarizaki are an interesting team. They’re pretty tall on the whole, with the only starter below 180cm being the libero (and being the only team in the series where that’s the case), however they’re also the only really prominent team to have only one starter breaking 186cm.
@@sagatious6435 well he’s one of the shortest notable middles in the series. The average height for a Haikyuu middle is 186.8cm, and that’s with the average being dragged down by a bunch of fodder players. For powerhouse teams, the average is more like 188cm
Atsumu’s internal monologue during his freak quick “The position, this timing, this angle, it’s perfect.”, is identical to the internal monologue that Kageyama had when he did the freak quick with Hinata for the first time! This is a short clip of Hinata and Kageyama’s first quick if you’d like to look back at the referenced scene ua-cam.com/video/6kEtVEudd94/v-deo.html
Just to add to the scene when Akaashi (Bokuto's setter) is commenting on Kageyama's 'missed tempo' set, in the episode the anime has him say "He probably knows how his opponents are viewing him." The manga breaks this line down a little better and his explanation is actually more along the lines of "Kageyama has an extremely good understanding of what his side of the court looks like from the opponent's point of view." Essentially, he's explaining that Kageyama's strength doesn't just lie in his ability to quickly see where everybody is and what is happening on the court, but also in his ability to instantly visualize his own plays from a different perspective than his own, and that enables him to make even more deceptive and effective plays as a setter :D
Noya's slide receive is probably the most recycled animation. I've seen it on Daichi, Seijo's libero and I think even Ushijima at one point lol it's so familiar at this point
Kageyama read their timings and was almost scared thinking about what Miya Brothers were gonna do. As expected, his fear came to life as these twins absolutely demolished them with their own trump card. The moment when he realizes that, gives me chills everytime.
Inarizaki's cheer band was playing tempo starting a a slow cadence and gradually speeding up during the Karasuno pre serve. The purpose of having Saeko and the Karasuno cheer band play at the SAME time was to cut through the gradually increasing tempo Inarizaki kept putting into the Karasuno servers ear. It's a matter of overlapping tempos, songs and rhythms to allow the server to not focus on the drum beats and refocus on just serving effectively.
The development of the Miya's being able to use the freak quick was likely a source of major shock for a lot of fans whether you started with the manga, like I did, or the anime
About the twins: the blonde one is Atsumu and the Silver Hair is Osamu, though in the manga and in the Haikyuu Universe they are actually identical, to the point that people often don't know which is which. The different hair colours are probebly just for the audience to know, but for the characters, I think it's the same Edit: they are slightly different in the manga, but more similar than in the anime. Maybe it's just the blacl and white making the difference more subtle or the anime highlighted the difference more. Anyway, people do mix them up and that's why I could swear their hair colour was identical.
The Miya twins having different hair colours isn’t them not being identical. They seemingly dye their hair those colours, as they both have brown hair as kids and have brown parts on their current hair. I think it’d be real strange and not make much sense if their hair was supposed to be the same colour in-universe
@@creft8202 there’s nothing to suggest that they’ve always dyed their hair as far as I can remember, so I’d love to know where it says that they did when they were younger
@@sal_5594 in the manga, their hair colour is is identical when they’re kids, both being drawn as solid black. Their eyes are harder to judge, since their eye colours change from panel to panel, but there doesn’t seem to be a clear difference between them, and in all official manga colourings their eyes seem to both be the same shade of grey, though that’s kinda true of all of Inarizaki. But yeah my guess is that the difference in eye colour and the difference in hair colour when they’re kids is something added by the anime. Edit: it’s worth mentioning, though, that using official manga colourings when talking about the Miyas isn’t great anyway, since even Osamu’s hair colour isn’t consistent across them. His hair ranges from grey to light brown.
@@Chinnybon well from the small context clue that both their hair was colored black when they where younger, then they both where a different color when they where teens, then Osamus returned to black when they where older, there's perhaps some way it changed color.
2:58, In the manga, Nishinoya does react to it! 13:41, Again, in the manga, Hinata doesn't jump off of both feet! The Inarizaki match is amazing in the manga. I hope people can get a chance to read the match on the manga at least once! It is very exciting. If coach ever does a manga review or commentary, I'd love to watch it!
It was actually here that I switched to the manga (well, when the first part of the season finished) and wow, I'm so glad I did. Furudate is the GOAT when it comes to angles and rallies 🥺🌟
coach 11:32 the cool haircut guy is one of the top 3 aces in Japan (Kiryu) together with Ushijima and Sakusa (2:50 curly hair guy on the left) also, remember that Bokuto and Aran (Inarizaki #4) are the 4th and 5th
@@joka they’re pretty interchangeable for now, but one of them will separate themselves from the other and elevate their stock as the tournament progresses
The theme that plays when the twins make their quick is probably my favourite track in season 4! Kind of dubsteppy but with that awesome trumpet over the top
Agreed, it also reminds me of the S2 finals when Mad Dog comes in for his first big play. They did a similar thing then with that quick trumpet line to signal that this big change was happening. But where Mad Dog's trumpet line was chaotic and disruptive, this Miya twins line is really smooth
What Saeko was referring to was how the Shiratorizawa cheering squad completely overpowered the Karasuno cheering squad during their game and how that aggravated her.
A lot of yall didnt understand "We don't need the memories" and it shows lol Also, just because Coach asked offhandedly, doesnt always mean you should provide the whole answer, especially because it will be revealed in the story, and some are just outright spoiling future content 🙃
for reference with saeko: she mentions how in the match against ushiwaka (season 3) she was cheering, but it got lost in the sauce with the other team's cheering team being so much louder. since she got really frustrated, she got her taiko team with her here. basically when the serving happens, they aren't trying to overpower the other band, just make it loud enough that the server can concentrate on the drums as opposed to the band (they are close to the server here). also, taiko is basically 95% drums of different types, 5% flute for harmony (generalization but it gets the point across) so they can be LOUD if they want to be: it's played outside usually, like the bagpipes in that sense.
So just to explain some of the characters you weren’t sure about. The guy “with the cool hair” was one of the three top spikers in Japan that they showed in that season 2 graphic with Ushiwaka and the germaphobe who Kageyama met at the training camp. And the “kpop” guy was an opponent of Nekoma that they played during an OVA, his was the team that would push the rules without breaking them or trying to cozy up to the refs to frustrate the other team. He was doing this to bring the manager who he liked to nationals. They’re here now to see and support Nekoma
Probably easier for coach to remember Daishou Suguru as the captain of the cunning Snake team. His girlfriend with him broke up with him because she felt that he loved volleyball more than he loves her, but she got back with him at the end of the OVA when she realized why volleyball meant so much to him.
12:40 DAMN COACH you see all these characters so clearly for what they are so early!! this happened/almost happened with Washijo (Shiratorizawa's coach) as well, where you noticed he was going hard on Hinata to make him better pretty early on. makes me wonder why i didn't notice these things
The idea of 'making memories' is a classic answer or motivation as to why people do clubs in Japan. Useful for hiding ambitions people may secretly be harboring when asked what your goal at a club might be, should you be embarrassed to declare them. The fact that Inarizaki are openly declaring 'We Don't Need the Memories' connects to this, implying they are dispensing with all pretense with regard to their goals. It's essentially a declaration of war, victory above all else. It's something that, as a statement, only has true significance in a Japanese high school context.
the flashback tanaka's sister had is actually about the game against shiratorizawa, where their cheering crowd would just be louder than karasuno's and she couldn't do anything about the mood. that's why this time she got her band to come with her, so it wouldn't feel like the entire crowd was against karasuno.
I like how in the Fukurodani players commentary, they comment on the things that they would be concerned with during the game. Akaashi analyzes Kagayama's thought processes while setting and gets extremely technical and Bokuto is over here just like "Hinata sure is amazing!"
the inarizaki match is honestly one of the best in the entire series- its such a pity that it happened to line up with covid and all the behind the scene issues but what the animators and the team managed to give us is still incredible. and even in all the amazing episodes from this match this is one of my favourite and most memorable. i love how it goes into so much of the nitty gritty details of playing sports. the mind games both on and off the court. the impact of small things like timing and pressure and footwork. it comes off brilliantly from the ball boy arc where hinata learnt to appreciate the small things in volleyball by watching from the side. akaashi and bokuto are such an iconic duo i love them so much ❤️ looking forward the the next ep!!
Saying this now because i just caught up, but miya atsumu and Osamu have the exact same haircolor in the manga. That's why hinata got confused in warm-ups. I'm happy they made the haicolors different in the anime so that you don't have to guess like I did when reading the manga
Can I just say I'm so glad that coach finally saw the comments regarding how the animation was made. Really helps in giving proper insight and information. This is the reason why you see such difference in quality throughout the episodes, its cause they're usually made by different animators.
As someone already commented, why the Inarizaki banner is "We don't need the memories" will be fully explained later. However, it's also important to know that in Japan it's usual to say "at least you made some memories" when someone loses or doesn't accomplish something they were trying. In fact, when Hinata and Kageyama first meet at the Middle School tournament Kageyama tells him "did you come here to make some memories?", clearly implying that he was going to lose.
14:53 "We don't need the memories" is a response to a common trope in Japanese sports culture. People say that they're going to participate in a tournament and make great memories there that will last them a lifetime. Instead, Inarizaki basically is saying, "we didn't come here for the good times. [implied: what we came here for is the trophy. We came here to win.]" It's particularly effective in Japanese because it's written in the local dialect where Inarizaki is from, which sounds tougher and more emotive, kind of like saying, "we don't need no memories."
About the Inarizaki banner: The banner probably connotes that there is no need to mourn over the loss and regrets of the past and you just need to meet the future challenges head-on. I believe that Inarizaki values innovation and always seeks to refine not only their skills but also players' spirits. They always aim for the best. Mabye that's why they are called "the most competitive challenger” .
Season 4 part 2's Opening is such an underrated song specially the bridge if you listen to the full version, it's one up there with Hikare are and Tobe Fly.
Gosh I remember I wasn't too sold on this opening when I first heard it, but once I listened to the full version I changed my mind right away. It's a must to listen to it.
OMG YES! honestly my favorite opening. I'm sad he didn't react to 9:00 with how they animated the camera pan along with the chorus drop, always gives me goosebumps!
Fun thing about this episode is the input from the spectators. All the spikers give insight into what their counterparts are doing, while the setters relay everything to the audience from their point of view. It's fun little things like this you don't quite pick up on right away that makes Haikyu an incredibly relatable show.
Yes, I'm so excited Coach finally got to see the Miya twins version of the freak quick. It really shocked me when I first watched it, I had to rewatch it myself the first time I watched it since I was super impressed and shocked. Everyone was so surprised to see the freak quick turned back on Karasuno
To avoid spoilers I can't be specific but ... what you say in this reaction was very exciting, in addition to this being my favorite match. Just watch and wait, Coach. You'll be satisfied. Oh, and not a spoiler, but Tsukki was laughing at Inarizaki trying to distract his serve because he, like Hinata, has a very boring standing float serve which Tsukki himself sees as not worth disrupting, in addition to his focus making it hard to distract.
Something to note on the animation production, ordinarily planning for a season of anime happens well in advance (ideally a year+). Pumping out an anime episode a week is just not feasible, it takes weeks to months per episode. Often times the best looking shows don't have the highest budget, just the most ideal and lenient production schedules.
Former band student thoughts: It's easier for a loud, strong rhythm to disrupt an unsteady one than the other way around. Saeko's team are drummers, meaning they focus more on exacting rhythm rather than feel of the music. They're also a team that's been together for a while, so they're well practiced. They wouldn't be easily thrown off by a competing sound. However, the slow clap build up is mostly controlled by one high school drummer leading the cheer squad. So it'd be easy to knock them off into random applause which is normal to ignore. As for the drumming itself being distracting, I believe they're aiming for "it's less of a problem than what the other team is pulling" instead of full concentration. That said, taiko is pretty ubiquitous in Japan, so it might be easier to tune out due to familiarity and habit. (Just like certain overplayed songs at sports matches in America.) Of course, that effectiveness can vary person to person. Also, it's very clear the that Inarizaki's conductor was animated before the music was selected because the conducting is SO OFF that it cracks me up every time I see it. lol "That song sounds familiar!" There are two songs that Inarizaki's band plays. The one at the beginning of the episode is song 2 (ua-cam.com/video/GswpIEDMn0c/v-deo.html) and it sounds familiar to me, too. I'm almost certain it's referencing another Haikyuu song, but I can't figure it out, and it's driving me crazy. Google is no help since song 1 (playing the rest of the episode) apparently sounds like a Naruto opening and that's all I can find in discussion forums. If anyone here knows what song 2 is, please tell me. T.T
The "We don't need the memories" is a reference to how the less competitive clubs are just there to "make friends and memories" rather than compete. This is illustrated in Hibike! Euphonium where the orchestra instructor asks them at the start "Do you want to go for nationals, or would you rather just make memories?"
kageyama likes to say a lot “this positioning, this timing, it’s perfect” a lot whenever the quick is going. that’s why it freaks him out so much, must’ve been very fun for the VA to say those lines again but with new meaning. and the camera does the same angles as when they do it as well
I really like this ending because it calls back to episode 11 of season 1 a bit. In that the episode showed all the teams who's season were cut short, and how painful that is(they even had a call back in this ending to the teams reaction to losing in this ending), Now most of the teams are watching Karasuno be they carry that chance of victory everyone else missed. Plus the music's good.
I am so excited you're finally in the Karasuno vs Inarizaki match. This is absolutely one of my tope matches in Haikyuu. It's just sooooo good. The match itself, the storytelling, the character development *chef's kiss*
atsumu is the reason why i became much moreee fascinated with setters. i think for people who don't know much about volleyball (which i used to be, now i think i'm better) setters are not really the one who got the flashy moves so they tend to be not appreciated. but watching atsumu and realizing how really good he is makes me want to be a setter even though i don't play hahaha
Quickie: I think in the manga, Hinata actually had a slide attack where the guy mentioned it. I thought it was bizzare too, because they changed how the attack looked.
If you noticed about Hinata’s jump at the start, that jump changed his contact point from what Kageyama is use to, so even with that change Kageyama was still able to meet Hinata’s new contact point.
Hi Coach Donny Just want to clarify: This anime is an adaptation of manga by Haruichi Furudate - so all character designs are by them, not the animators (I am aware designs are slightly altered to make it easier to animate) Thanks for the content!
For the “we don’t need the memories” they’ll explain it later on in this season but it basically means not to focus on what happened in the past “memories” and to focus more on the future👍
I always interpreted Inarizaki’s slogan “We don’t need the memories” as a badass way of saying we’re only here to win and nothing else, we’re not here to make friends or memories for that matter. They’re just there to win.
I like that coach is also noticing the tracks, because the tracks from TO THE TOP part 2 are personally my favorites. So far we got Hoshiumi's theme (ep 12) and now Atsumu's spike theme at the end of this ep. There's many others that are soon to come, and I can't wait to see coach reacting to em
They explain the point of them playing while Inarizaki is playing. The intent isn’t to try an overpower the other band. The point is to keep our own tempo and rhythm of Karasuno steady because Inarizakis band is changing the tempo of their rhythm to mess up the opposing server. Also she was referring to when they played against Shiratorizawa and how she felt powerless against that band cheering extra loud and they couldn’t pump up Karasuno as well
So the guy you’re asking about around 11:32 is a player that was teased before but this was his first real appearance. His name is Wakatsu Kiryu, and he’s a player that was mentioned in a previous season as one of the top 3 hitters in the nation. We’ll be seeing him actually playing later on as well.
i am so glad to see you love this episode, this match is my favourite of them all, and just as you said, there is so much back and forth, the only match that feels like there is no background in the show if you ask me, and the only match that stands on it own with no need for background
This match really get me thrilled! Every time i see that quick, i get goosebumps. Like everyone is saying that monologue from Atsumu: “The position, this timing, this angle, it’s perfect.” appears in first quick of Kageyama/Hinata and also in the match they lose to Aoba Johsai. For the match of Aoba Johsai: ua-cam.com/video/rMqCG8oz-io/v-deo.html In this match we have probably the best emotion from off the court. Saeko make me cry a lot of times just for the feelings in this match!
Band Geek here!! At 21:32 those instruments are called Mellophones. They are brass instruments that are similar to French horns. They are mainly used in marching bands, drum and bugle corps, military band settings due to their mouths (bells) pointing forward instead to the side like French horns. Thanks for reading and thanks for the quality content!
That outro song is my personal favorite of the series. The scene where the twins do Kageyama and Hinata's quick was sooo good! I'm glad you took the time to rewatch and appreciate it.
The way I interpret their slogan is: "they don't need there past victories to define how good they are." Basically saying we're gonna prove to you how good we are today.
Coach, here are two things you might've missed: 1. Saeko (Tanaka's sister) was saying that she got pissed when her (solo) cheering got overwhelmed by Shiratorizawa's cheering squad. In this episode 26:19, she's channeling that frustration to counter Inarizaki's cheering squad. 2. "This position...This timing...This angle!" It is the exact line Kageyama said when he and Hinata first did the freak quick.
Much like us audience, the characters also have different perspectives on "We don't need the memories" slogan, which will change the audience's interpretation on the slogan multiple times. To me that's the aspect that stands out the most for this match. And Atsumu is such a competitive player and fun character, I think you'll like him.
By the way coach, you can really look forward to the next episodes because they are all diving very deep into the game and each episode just covers a couple of points
When you commented on the steps for Miya's serves to be different per his serve right before Coach Ukai did. I found myself thinking about how accurate Haikyu must really be when things like this happen. And recently it's been more and more common, it's really nice and refreshing.
Just wanted to mention in case you missed it is that the play at the end was basically a close imitation of Kageyama and Hinata’s freak quick. This caught Karasuno off guard since they thought only Hinata and Kageyama could pull that off but then the twin brothers pulled it off on the fly.
one thing i love about the twins is that their personalities are connected to their names. Atsu means hot and Samu means cold and the twins personality reflects their names.
Ok, I just wanted to present the award for "THE FASTEST HAIKYUU REACTOR TO RECOGNIZE THE MIYA TWINS' FREAK QUICK VERSION" to Coach Donny! Queue THUNDEROUS APPLAUSE
Glad to see that just two episodes in and you're already picking up on the subtle (sometimes less subtle) differences between the Miya twins. That will be a continuing theme, so great to see you starting early!
26:23 She was reffering to that time back in season 3 vs Shiratorizawa when they have nothing against their whole cheering squad. that's why this time, she brought her own to help
I really appreciate seeing your love for anime grow along with this series. I remember seeing your first episodes and you not really being into it. but now, you get excited and are more comfortable joking and making your own dubs of scenes, you just seem to be enjoying this more over the years and it shows! Also they played some of these songs a lot during the olympic volleyball matches last year. You probably subconsciously heard then while doing your commentaries and didnt realize theyre from Haikyuu. especially because you hadnt gotten to season 4 yet.
Coach is gonna love the whole season because this is just the first match and the rest of the episodes are all the 3 matches against inarizaki. We have plenty of time to admire the game
I think the „we dont need the memories“ means like what ever happend in the last game doesnt matter whats important is what you do now. But i think they talk about that in one episode
Kageyama goes hard every single ball since his match against oikawa. No hesitation, no by the book play just pure display of skill Great example 11:56, and the match just started
The music that’s playing while Inarizaki is doing a cool play is my favorite. I caught myself having to reply scenes because I was too busy jamming out
Actually in the manga, Tsukki says "you can boo my crappy serve all you want ." It's less that tsukki has developed great mental fortitude and more that he's amused at how much effort they're putting into his average serve😂
LOL I remember that, his comments are always on point XD
boo my crappy serve*
@@Magnarizon Thanks. I thought I had a stroke for a moment there.
“You can my crappy serve boo”?
They tried to beat the embodiment of salt with salt :"D
The thing that Atsumu says when he set the ball to do a freak quick with his brother is exactly what Kageyama said the first time him and Hinata did the freak quick. "This position, this timing, this angle, It's perfect!". Just thought that was a fun detail
@@ElevateYourselfOfficial Keep Karasuno's matches with Aoba Johsai in mind for this game. They make a lot of indirect comparisons to it, escpecially at the end.
It's obviously meant to be a callback, but the lines actually differ slightly from each other in the original japanese.
The lines in japanese (as written in the manga) are:
Kageyama: "この位置! このタイミング! この角度で!! ドンピシャ!!!" ("Kono ichi! Kono taimingu! Kono kakudo de!! Donpisha!!!"), literally something like: "This position! This timing! With this angle!! Right on!!!"
Atsumu: "この位置 頃合い この角度 どんぴしゃり" ("Kono ichi Koroai Kono kakudo Donpishari"), which is something like "This position Good timing This angle Right on"
The meaning is basically the same, but they aren't identical.
(Just went back to double check, and Kageyama doesn't actually say "It's perfect/right on" the first time they do the freak quick in the anime during the practice game in episode 4, just "This position, this timing, this angle". It is there in the original manga and at the end of the first Seijo game though.)
Yeah i remembered the end of the seijoh game
And also Kageyama saw Osamu started running much earlier and immediately realised that they are gonna do the weird quick.
At 24:24, that guy is the captain of the dirty-playing snake team Nekoma beat in Land vs Air OVA.
HAHAHAHA finally, someone told him🤣
Fun Fact:
In the new intro, theres 12 crows flying out of the stadium. That's 1 for every player on Karasuno

I just wanted to point out that the TV moments at the ending song actually changes with each episode, including the most notable plays from said episode. It's a very cool touch for the animation team to include and change with each and every episode, so if you're interested, I suggest sticking around for a few extra seconds when the ending song starts.
Oh wow I actually never noticed that before. That's such a cool detail.

At the end of this match, Tsukki serves like Sugi where he gets serves close to the net which fucked the receiver up. Hinata isn't capable of that type of precise serve.
His serve is the 2nd weakest. Just above Hinata.
I really like this new ending because it shows "the losers", the teams that didn't make to the national. They are watching, they want to know they lost to the best team possible, and they are still training, tournament ended but the game goes on
Since you mentioned that Atsumu must be pretty tall, I figure now is a good time to go over everyone’s height
Inarizaki:
#2 Ren Omimi (MB) - 191.5cm / 6’3.4”
#4 Aran Ojiro (OH) - 184.7cm / 6’0.7”
#5 Hitoshi Ginjima (OH) - 180.3cm / 5’11”
#7 Atsumu Miya (S) - 183.6cm / 6’0.3”
#10 Rintaro Suna (MB) - 185.7cm / 6’1.1”
#11 Osamu Miya (OP) - 183.8cm / 6’0.4”
#15 Michinari Akagi (L) - 174.2cm / 5’8.6”
Karasuno:
#1 Daichi Sawamura (OP) - 176.7cm / 5’9.6”
#3 Asahi Azumane (OH) - 186.4cm / 6’1.4”
#4 Yu Nishinoya (L) - 160.5cm / 5’3.2”
#5 Ryunosuke Tanaka (OH) - 178.2cm / 5’10.2”
#9 Tobio Kageyama (S) - 181.9cm / 5’11.6”
#10 Shoyo Hinata (MB) - 164.2cm / 5’4.6”
#11 Tsukishima (MB) - 190.1cm / 6’2.8”
So Inarizaki are an interesting team. They’re pretty tall on the whole, with the only starter below 180cm being the libero (and being the only team in the series where that’s the case), however they’re also the only really prominent team to have only one starter breaking 186cm.
Is Michi the tallest libero in the series?
@@AllTheArtsy nah we found out at the all Japan camp that Komori, the #1 libero in the country, is 180cm. He’s the tallest one we know.
@@Chinnybon ah i forgot Motoya! he used to be an opposite but switched because of Omi iirc
And coach Ukai said in the last episode that Rintaro is short compare to most middle blocker. I won't consider 185.7cm short for high school.

The different hair colours are probebly just for the audience to know, but for the characters, I think it's the same
Edit: they are slightly different in the manga, but more similar than in the anime.
Actually they've always dyed their hair, read the manga again.

You'll learn more about Inarizaki's slogan "We don't need the memories". It's one of the coolest ones , in my opinion
A lot of yall didnt understand "We don't need the memories" and it shows lol
Also, just because Coach asked offhandedly, doesnt always mean you should provide the whole answer, especially because it will be revealed in the story, and some are just outright spoiling future content 🙃
This kind of baffles me. Anyone that's ever competed should understand that slogan the first time they see it.
for reference with saeko: she mentions how in the match against ushiwaka (season 3) she was cheering, but it got lost in the sauce with the other team's cheering team being so much louder. since she got really frustrated, she got her taiko team with her here.
basically when the serving happens, they aren't trying to overpower the other band, just make it loud enough that the server can concentrate on the drums as opposed to the band (they are close to the server here).
also, taiko is basically 95% drums of different types, 5% flute for harmony (generalization but it gets the point across) so they can be LOUD if they want to be: it's played outside usually, like the bagpipes in that sense.
Mika isn't a manager. She's Daishou's girlfriend.
Probably easier for coach to remember Daishou Suguru as the captain of the cunning Snake team. His girlfriend with him broke up with him because she felt that he loved volleyball more than he loves her, but she got back with him at the end of the OVA when she realized why volleyball meant so much to him.
Ok to be fair, it’s been like 5 years since I’ve seen that ova
12:40 DAMN COACH you see all these characters so clearly for what they are so early!! this happened/almost happened with Washijo (Shiratorizawa's coach) as well, where you noticed he was going hard on Hinata to make him better pretty early on. makes me wonder why i didn't notice these things
Exactly, I was SO shocked when he said that
I also smile or smirk when someone gets an ace on me, when a good rally is going on, its the excitement of seeing good people playing against you
The idea of 'making memories' is a classic answer or motivation as to why people do clubs in Japan.
You’re going to love this Inarizaki match, they put so much detail into it

Can I just say I'm so glad that coach finally saw the comments regarding how the animation was made. Really helps in giving proper insight and information. This is the reason why you see such difference in quality throughout the episodes, its cause they're usually made by different animators.
I almost missed the detail. Hoshiumi was about to leave after saying he’s pissed with Miya and his libero stopped him to see hinata kageyama combo.
About the Inarizaki banner:
The banner probably connotes that there is no need to mourn over the loss and regrets of the past and you just need to meet the future challenges head-on.

5:46 I think Atsumu wasn’t actually encouraging Hinata there 😂 probably more like “We got a point because of that so it’s alright! 😏”
The person with the cool looking shaved hair with the lines on his head is one of the top 3 spikers in Japan that was mentioned in season 2
Former band student thoughts:
It's easier for a loud, strong rhythm to disrupt an unsteady one than the other way around.
Also, it's very clear the that Inarizaki's conductor was animated before the music was selected because the conducting is SO OFF that it cracks me up every time I see it. lol
"That song sounds familiar!" There are two songs that Inarizaki's band plays. T.T
Kageyama's grin at 3:24 is more like "ugh yep I remember that from the camp"
brace yourself for episode 15 coach donny.. thats where the long awaited “animation” issue we talked about on many episode before 😂
The "We don't need the memories" is a reference to how the less competitive clubs are just there to "make friends and memories" rather than compete. This is illustrated in Hibike! Euphonium where the orchestra instructor asks them at the start "Do you want to go for nationals, or would you rather just make memories?"
36:34 I love that the principal make's coach Donny laugh preety much every time lol
kageyama likes to say a lot “this positioning, this timing, it’s perfect” a lot whenever the quick is going. that’s why it freaks him out so much, must’ve been very fun for the VA to say those lines again but with new meaning. and the camera does the same angles as when they do it as well
I really like this ending because it calls back to episode 11 of season 1 a bit.
Those birds in half-time actually represent the characters. The black bird with orange hair is Hinata , and the one with black hair is Kageyama
Hi Coach Donny
Just want to clarify: This anime is an adaptation of manga by Haruichi Furudate - so all character designs are by them, not the animators (I am aware designs are slightly altered to make it easier to animate)
Thanks for the content!
I love it how Bokuto is representing us audience reaction .
i am so glad to see you love this episode, this match is my favourite of them all, and just as you said, there is so much back and forth, the only match that feels like there is no background in the show if you ask me, and the only match that stands on it own with no need for background
For the match of Aoba Johsai:

In this match we have probably the best emotion from off the court.
As always, Coach Donny is on point in noticing each character's detail's. Not gonna spoil though. 🤗
Coach, here are two things you might've missed:
I've been waiting for coach to react to this opening, it's one of my favorites.
12:31
"The blonde looks excited" master coach once again
saeko was referring to the time when shiratorizawa's cheering squad was overwhelming and karasuno had barely any cheering
I'm amazed our Coach here managed to find out that meaningful difference between the Miyas just from that shot of their reaction to Hinata's quick
24:14 the guy that just pop up was the captain of the team that nekoma fought in order to get in to the nationals. the one that OVA you watched
Oh yes here it is! Been waiting for this game reaction for months! It’s just gonna get better! 🥳🥳🥳
The new track is the best one yet
Kageyama goes hard every single ball since his match against oikawa.
No hesitation, no by the book play just pure display of skill
Great example 11:56, and the match just started
what makes that quick more amazing is that atsumu did it on the spot!
Next episode is gonna be so good. It's the farmed out animation episode and I wanna see coach react to backwards daichi
definitely my favourite ending song. The next episode will be the tip into bad quality everyone was talking about.
The music that’s playing while Inarizaki is doing a cool play is my favorite. I caught myself having to reply scenes because I was too busy jamming out
