Today I went and visited Rockey in her apartment. That's right, thanks to LA Family Housing Rockey is no longer homeless!
It was so great seeing Rockey today and checking out her apartment. I didn't have my main camera with me simply because I don't video everything I do. Cameras change things and this didn't seem like a video moment. Arien requested we record a video to update her story so that's why I had my good camera.
When Rockey started showing me all the amazing things she makes I pulled out my smartphone to shoot this little video. I have to be honest, this video doesn't even begin to show all the cool stuff Rockey builds. She is a born maker and is truly gifted at decorating and interior design.
Huge thanks to Invisible People supporters who helped get Rockey a bedroom set, a refrigerator, and a few other things to make her apartment a home. When I learned she was sleeping on the floor and had no way to keep food from spoiling, you all stepping up to help. Thank you!
To clarify, nonprofits like LA Family Housing would furnish each apartment if they could. They do the impossible by covering rent. The issue is funders either do not fund furniture or put restrictions on their funds. Making apartments a home is a great opportunity for faith-based and community groups. I wish more would step up to coordinate with service providers to help.
When Rockey kissed me on the cheek it was unexpected and I forgot to say how important permanent supportive housing is to ending homelessness and saving taxpayer money! Homeless shelters are needed as part of a community-wide system to get people off the streets but there always must be a path out of the shelter to housing! Housing ends homelessness, it saves lives, and it saves taxpayer money - your money!

PLEASE HELP ROCKEY CREATE AN ONLINE STORE LIKE ETSY OR SOMETHING TO SELL HER ARTSMANSHIP! I would pay to have her build me little tables, coat hangers, racks, etc! She is very talented, and I KNOW if she posted her story with her items, I KNOW THEY'D SELL! Even people below want to buy things from her! Like the tiny table and chairs could be a Christmas gift for a little girl for her dollhouse! Please let her know that we would pay to have her build and create home furnishings from her! :)

Yes I felt she acted and looked younger. All that worrying about getting food and carting water up a hill every day must be so exhausting.
She seemed like a young heart in that original video, I think she's quite an energetic spirit, but yes definately, being homeless and worrying does age you quickly.

I was staying in my car for months due to a depression. I was employed and had an income. I would shower at the gym. I am not kidding I looked 10 years older and got a UTI because I didn't have access to a restroom. I was exposed to sexual harassment and I learned pple take advantage of the most vulnerable. I was financially stable so I was on the streets due to depression not lack of funds. I never became a victim because I had options due to the fact that I had income. Which makes me wonder all the abuse homeless are exposed to because some don't have income or they are addicts. I learned so much and I can say I understand the homeless more.
@MSSUCCESSDRIVEN I am glad you are stable. As for me. I am stable too but my pain is ongoing because I lost my son and mother and I don't think I will ever recover 100%. I am just in survival mode and coping. Taking one day at a time.

It should be standard for everyone to not be allowed to reach a certain level of proverty. Even prisoners are given shelter so why not our own citizens. It's disgraceful any of the human beings on this channel were ever allowed to go without safe housing or the most basic of necessities which should be standard in this country

Just seeing this now. I always love to hear about people no longer trapped on the street !! Streets are made for walking, not as a form of corraling homeless people. We all need to demand these idiot politicians end that " status quo" right now ! Because the funds are there for just this purpose, if it doesn't get stolen by the same politicians. I'm amazed that L.A. Family Housing ever did anything. Way to go Rockey ! Now you can enjoy feathering that nest. One can see that investing in housing benefits society, and is not a waste of 💰. Congratulations, good for you all who escape homelessness.

Me too. I was feeling blue today., and when I learned that she'd found a home, and watched this video, I burst out crying. (She's SO happy and proud of her new life and I'm SO happy for her!) I wonder how hard it was for her to get used to sleeping in a house again because the transition had to be pretty difficult because when she lived in those tents she always had to stay alert for the slightest noise.

I can still describe my first real meal after getting of the streets getting my own key that first hott 🚿 shower going shopping for clothes when the interviewer asks when can start work signing the title for your own car that a joy you can't describe unless you've been on the streets I love this channel it I never forget what I've been through and I'm grateful for what I have 🙏

I got off the streets in 2014 by going on the internet every day at the public library. A total stranger I met on a "dating" website invited me into their home and I used that opportunity to become independent again. I lived in that person's home for four months. I now live in my own apartment but homelessness can happen again. There are no guarantees.

@@hermosareaux670 moving into someone's home under those circumstances is and was very risky because you probably won't be compatible with that person for a long term arrangement, for a variety of reasons...it started out as a romantic relationship, which has a very low chance of succeeding...
I was lucky it lasted long enough for me to get back on my feet.
