- Like many people trying to survive the pandemic, Lydia's income was cut. After being evicted for her inability to pay rent, Lydia attempts to stay with friends but finds that living in her car is her only choice. Lydia struggles to figure out what to do next and stay safe while keeping a sense of normalcy working as a rideshare driver in Los Angeles. Finding a safe place to park at night proves challenging until Lydia meets an unexpected ally who shows her kindness.
Mobile is a short film based on true life events telling the story of a growing population forced into mobile homelessness.

About Invisible People
There is a direct correlation between what the general public perceives about homelessness and how it affects policy change. Most people blame homelessness on the person experiencing it instead of the increasing shortage of affordable housing, lack of employment, childhood trauma, lack of a living wage, or the countless reasons that put a person at risk. This lack of understanding creates a dangerous cycle of misperception that leads to the inability to effectively address the root causes of homelessness.
We imagine a world where everyone has a place to call home. Each day, we work to fight homelessness by giving it a face while educating individuals about the systemic issues that contribute to its existence. Through storytelling, education, news, and activism, we are changing the narrative on homelessness.
This isn’t just talk. Each year, our groundbreaking educational content reaches more than a billion people across the globe. Our real and unfiltered stories of homelessness shatter stereotypes, demand attention and deliver a call-to-action that is being answered by governments, major brands, nonprofit organizations, and everyday citizens just like you.
However, there is more work to be done on the road ahead. Homelessness is undoubtedly one of our biggest societal issues today and will only continue to grow if we don’t take action now.

This is what I have experienced. I was walking on the broad road to hell and luckily a chance meeting with a blonde preacher from the Greek orthodox church and I eventually changed, repented and started living in God's commandments.
After that its relatively simple as God genuinely looks after you.
Do not take the vaccine.
Jesus have mercy on me a sinner.
How can we help? Even if just a little? Id rather give to the parking program than to these greedy mega churches!

Several years ago I was going to the store to buy a can of soda, there was an elderly couple with a shopping cart full of their belongings in a garbage bag. They were trying to figure were to sleep for the night, it was during the winter season & it was cold outside, I got my soda & left, but my heart felt heavy with sadness. I told my then husband of what I saw & busted out crying, we drove around looking for these people & finally we found them, we took them into our apartment & feed them, gave them towels so they can take a nice hot shower. We put them downstairs in our kitchen (it was a large kitchen). With an air mattress. They cried & cried because they were grateful, ( I cried myself to sleep). The next morning I decided to take the day off work & called all these shelters with no luck, my husband & I decided to let them stay for a while until we were able to get them the help they needed. Some folks Criticized us for letting strangers in our homes others were happy we did help. I did it because I was once homeless too with a 7 year old child & a friend opened her doors to us, so you never know someone's situation unless you have walked in their shoes. Thank you for being a beacon & putting the spot light on this senseless situation.

That’s right- people bark off cruel comments like “ get a job,” or “get away from my neighborhood” or “lazy good for nothing “ and they no NOTHING about these peoples lives& what most of them endured, I’m so sick and tired of humans judging , those people should take a long look at themselves instead of others so they can feel strong. That’s a false way of making oneself feel better fir sure. It’s sick.

I had a homeless guy sleeping outside my place, instead of calling him homeless I told everyone he was my security guard. Eventually he ended up getting hired as a security guard by a nearby business that decided whatever I was paying they would beat it. They gave him a trailer to stay in and pay him to be there when they are not.

I found out that there were no friends out there. Now i keep my 14 year homelessness a secret. I cannot tell anyone that i actually live in a nuclear bunker deep undrground, which i enjoy to be honest....

I lived in my car for a short period. I was SOOOOO grateful to not be in the streets...I grew to love that car! That was my protection and my shelter....it allowed me also to Move...I will always LOVE MUSTANG CARS!!!! Every night I said, THANK YOU CAR...YOU ARE THE ROOF OVER MY HEAD. I took such good care of that baby cause she was my home....Lovedshoppingwith her...exxploring with her...sleeping with her...watching you tube..going to the beach....SOOO GRATEFUL!!!!

Literally this is my story. Lost my job of almost 8 years. I took a lot of psychological abuse to keep from being homeless again. Four days ago I paid my rent with my last check. I remind myself that I have a home in Heaven that out shines the sun.
Or you could go to a Kingdom hall and learn about Jehovah and friends can help you when times are bad

im 21, living in my car. it was by force but im blessed in a lot of ways that are unnecessary to go into detail about here but i sleep in a library parking lot, there's also a park. the Lord defends me & keeps me strong. i pray you all find comfort in Him in all ways, whether you are homeless or not. luckily it's super chill & secluded at the library. praise the Lord for granting me His Spirit for comfort through hard times. i love you all with the Love of Christ. He heals the broken-hearted!

The woman who taps on Lydia's car window - I totally see that happening. Her knee-jerk reaction was to call the police. These people have ZERO empathy and they are everywhere.

You only see it from the homeless girl's side. It is human nature to protect your home and your family from strangers. A better idea, you don't want to be seen is to park at a hospital overnight or a business that stays open all night, not a residential neighborhood where you will be noticed and watched.
@@firstlastname7437 I parked at the ymca up till yesterday. Only from 9-4pm was in there. I would get in the back seat becaus e the windows were tinted and roll down the front windows and crack the back. They have two parking lots. One they neglect and its overgrown, floods has snakes and trash. This is in the business area like this. Police came and knocked on my window and told me YMCA did not want me parking there and I needed to leave or my car was going to be towed. People who do not go to the ymca park and leave their vehicles all the time. The only thing I can think of is people come up to the car and start looking in becaus ethe windows are down and then say they didnt know someone was in it and walk off. I had an old man do this to me. Why does it bother people if someone's windows are left down? The truck was never parked the same or even there everyday. IDK. But summer in alabama is a death sentence. We have tried to buy a camper like yesterday only to have them sell it to someone else after hauling but there. Also had a guy pick a women who owned a rv lot and rented dozens of them out sell her a camper over us. If someone told me they were homeless in would feel better letting them buy it since its the same price. Yesterday I cried over the one we got the run around on. We showed up to a bunch of people in the yard and it already being sold and gone. I told the guy we were homeless. If we had known it was a copetition we would not have bothered. Talk about a jerk. It was a 2012 for $3500. People are hateful about this camper thing. A homeless guy was trying to buy one and u could see the messages on marketplace. He said he is homeless and living in his truck could he makes $300 payments till he paid it off. It was $1000 and completely torn up. This woman who is standing in front of a brick home with a professional photography profile swoops in and says well i will give u a $1000 cash now. Im so mad about the camper thing because it seems people have no morals or empathy anymore just to give us the chance to buy it. We have the money. Omg right now about to pass out. I have sweated so much it has gotten my phone wet. Its so hot. And in a car.

I know it gets hot here. Down south you can get a coffee at McDonalds and sit in the ace for a few hours. Up north they won't let you use a bathroom or hang out more than 15 20 mins, then they kick you out and you can die!! Big difference

I'm a 64 year old grandmother who now lives out of my SUV, however, I've been tremendously fortunate to have a job and get prepared for my inevitable eviction. Reflectix on all windows and removing the back seats is the key to privacy and extra space. Watching CheapRVLiving on UA-cam with Bob Wells is the best introduction to learning how to not only survive, but thrive when living in your home-on-wheels.

Wish a Bob Wells had been around 50 years ago for me as a young woman. My parents abandoned me and I had no other family to help me. There were no social programs to help. I worked and bought a small car and rented a couch from a couple in their apartment. Three times I ended up living in my small car, always in hard Colorado winters. I had never even been camping so I was suffering a lot because I didn't know anything. I was mistreated on jobs so badly that even as bad as living in my car was, I'd walk out and find another low paying job. It took a decade of suffering and working seven days a week to climb out of this nightmare, but today after selling my business, I live in my oceanfront dream home. If I could do it, anyone can.
Did this for 1 year after being in a shelter for 3 years, recuperating and tryna get back on my feet. Started doing part time caregiving while in the shelter, then got my DL back and signed up with Lyft. Started driving then moved out of shelter due in and out restrictions, then lived in car for a year while saving money up to afford my own place. Keep my things to a minimum, rest in a small storage, knew where to shower EVERY morning and kept car utterly spotless and me looking good and smelling good. Nobody knew I was living in my car. 😁😁😁

Being homeless is a non stop struggle just for the most basic of tasks. I know how she feels I was homeless a few years back. I remember doing the things she’s doing just to make it another day.😢
I’m so sorry you went through that. I was very close to living in my car as well, right at the beginning of COVID. I reached out to a non prophet on a Saturday and by Gods grace, they emailed me first thing Monday and set me up in an apartment, I’m still here today and I thank God every single day for giving me shelter and safety. It’s scary out there and I hope by now, a year later that you’ve been able to find home for yourself…..everyone needs and deserves home! May God bless you abundantly and keep you safe! 🙏🏻💗
I was homeless the whole pandemic living in my car for a year & half…but God has blessed me with a house & a new car , im so grateful and im praying for whoever going through this right now , its gonna get better just keep the Faith 💙

THIS hit my heart hard, I'm crying . I've been through this too many times. There were times I would pray not to wake up. I'm older now and currently once again homeless. I prepared myself knowing that the day would come when I could no longer afford rent .I bought back van did the best I could to make it home, but it is my home and I'm very grateful for what I have .there are no safe parking programs in my area , I lock up next to my 100lb dog and pray I dont get robbed or worse hurt by someone. The homeless problem is going to get worse every single day. What can be done? There are too many people to help . All I want to say is to PLEASE be kind to others and not judge someone sleeping in their car or on the street. Every situation is different and most people you see sleeping on the sidewalk have given up ALL hope. To anyone reading this PLEASE hold your head up high and never give up. Each day you are alive and breathing is a blessing, you are loved and the world is a better place with you in it.
Do you use Wal Mart parking lots, if you have them nearby? I know being a woman comes with all sorts of unique problems as a woman- safety, periods, etc. I don’t know if it’s true, but apparently you’re allowed to park overnight in Wal Mart lots. I’m sure you already knew this, but I thought I would just say that and give you love
I must admit I should be a happy man. I live alone (except three cats) in a house with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths built in 2015 with a 6 acres land. Tax property equals 50 $ per year. However I lost job one year ago but I have savings, and no debts no worries.
I live safe in Poland near Warsaw. I am 52 years old. Living in US is a total nightmare from my point of view.
Stay strong you have a big heart maybe get connected to a church for some help.

I have quiet a few number of tenants who were like her. I gave them a second chance to rent my rentals after no one took them. They have been my model tenants. Sometime, the heart makes a better decision than the brain.

Thank you for what you do man, someone gave me and my girlfriend a chance. I am going to start a new job soon and she already has one. Soon enough we are going to rent out a whole house in preparation for the day when some of my old friends who helped me need help themselves.

To all those who have “stable job/career and claimed to have real “faithful friends and families, remember this…..life is so uncertain nowadays and theres no guarantee that whatever you are enjoying and benefits will stay for a long long time, so while you still have those things, Never ever looked down a Homeless person.
My fiance & I just finally got out of our cursed car after over a year of being in it. it was broken down twice, the second time was for 6 months and we were stranded in a Wendys parking lot with our 2 dogs and our kitty.
Its been rough since his little boy and his father both passed away suddenly, life took an insane turn that completely yanked the rug out from underneath us....
living in a car wouldnt be so bad if its not some tiny little 2 door Honda like ours, you have everything you need, and most of all- its Your Choice...
Life can be really brutal sometimes, just keep reminding yourself that you've got this and please Don't give up 💜

I am grateful for my truck, every time I go to sleep I think how worse it could be. My truck has a mattress, and it locks, plus light to see. I'm safe, dry and comfortable. Now, I just wish people wouldn't stare and leave me alone if they don't want to help.
I love sleeping in my truck. I only do it when I'm too tired to walk into the house.
All it took was the kindness of one person to point her in the right direction! 🙏❤️
This is why I will always have a car big enough to sleep and live in, always work when I don't feel like working, always be trying to earn more, always try to minimize overhead costs like rent and spending, try and live cheap. It can happen to anyone. Really well done and the man who runs invisible people is just an angel to bring so much attention to this ever growing population of people. Think of the lives Richard Branson and Jeff Bezos could have set straight if they'd forgone their space tourism plans and just invested in people who really need it. I would challenge them to put as much money into helping homeless people find affordable homes and jobs as they did into their childish space hero dreams.

@@_nimrod92 I was living in my car just a few months back, in February. I still do not have a home... BUT I pulled up information regarding getting a CDL, I did postmates until I had enough to get my Class A CDL permit after studying on my phone, then called Swift Transportation to see about a job. A borrowed a friends address for proof of residency and well, now i'm still sleeping in a vehicle but its a truck and I have been making about 1k a week with the potential for more. Not trying to plug a company but Swift took care of basically all the rest of the costs. I just had to pay for food and the permit/license fees, so food stamps and more postmates lol. I lucked out for now and it really saved me....sleeping in the car is not easy and i'd been at it for over a year.
@@synccrow114 thanks for sharing your story but in my story I have a job and I go to school it’s just that I am choosing this lifestyle because I got fed up seeing all my income go towards rent. It’s not an easy lifestyle but it does give you the flexibility to not be geographically locked.
I live in a van in the UK and finding safe parkups is the most difficult thing, especially in an area you don't know. Im lucky that I can park at friends property. If you pass someone sleeping in their vehicle, please just give them a break and leave them alone. We are all just trying to survive.

Yes, sleep deprivation is brutal on the homeless. You are constantly exhausted through anxiety and quality sleep is very difficult to find and secure.

One needs to have/ get mechanical skills to maintain the vehicles one uses. Lots of scammers and predators out there.
Ha! Funny you should say that. Literally 10 minutes ago I was thinking exactly the opposite! Laying in my sleeping bag thinking, well I've got more space, I can stretch out better, go to toilet easier, and use free wood to cook and heat water. And do some foraging.
I'm lucky, I can use my car, or put a tent up, and for now I just feel safer and better off tucked away in the woods. The car is a mile or so away, I drop off my kit, take the car away to park it, and walk back to camp.
I'm 64 and just feel that the bit of extra space and ability to stand up inside is better for me. I'd rather have the car close by, but that's not possible and would draw attention.
I'm in the UK so it's very difficult to maintain a lifestyle like this. The main problem is not having an official address. That is the most difficult problem to overcome here.
Nah living in a tent in the woods is easier imo. It's just like camping I've done that but I would want to live in a car.

Crazy. I financed a car and in two weeks it broke down. I was living out of my car but now i’ve literally been homeless for 4 months. It is the most difficult life.

Me and my cats became homeless on New Year's Eve 2022. I'm a 70 year-old female Senior who's mobile home was stolen through nefarious means, and fancy legal shenanigans in Washington State. I've heard from other Seniors who have either had it happen to them, or know people who have had it happen. Since becoming homeless I've discovered that there are hundreds of thousands of Seniors on the street living in vehicles all over the country, and hundreds in my immediate vicinity.

I usually parked at night in a new neighborhood that was under construction. Cops bothered me few times while I was asleep, but I wasn't breaking any laws so they would always let me stay. Finding shade during the day is hard too. I would park in a free public garage during some hot days. On nice days, I'd park in a public cemetery under a tree. Luckily, I'm in an apartment now. But the loss of friends and family that believe being homeless is a personal failure is tough.

I was homeless twice and I lived in a tent for 2 yeas. My parents were very abusive and they never went to prison. 2 of my baby sisters were murdered, 2 of my brothers died of an heroin overdose and my sister died of a life if alcoholism.
4 years ago I was planning to kill myself on my 50th birthday, but then I learned it only takes 1 DAY to LISTEN TO N.T. Bible. In just 1 day The Truth completely set me Free!! I used to be a Homeless, suicidal, drug addicted, murdering, gay, prostitute, with multiple personalities, because I was kidnapped for sex trafficking as a Runway; my family never report me missing. I was a total hypocrite in the Church for 48 years and I was "WILLFULLY" Sinning / Acting Out every single day, so I never experienced any lasting freedom through the Church, 12 Step Groups, Counselors, etc. Trying to depend on 5-15 feel-good verses every Sunday was never going to redeem my soul. When I read 1ST JOHN 3:9-10 it instantly put the Fear of the Lord in me, and I finally surrendered my Entire life to God.
9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they CANNIT go on sinning, because they have been born of God. 10 This is how we KNOW who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are!!
Well... My victim mentality Immediately died that day and now for the last 4 years I've been Completely Set Free of ALL anger, alcohol, depression, drugs, fear, insecurities, jealousy, loneliness, multiple personalities, pornography, rejection, sexual thoughts, stress, unforgiveness, worry, etc... The Love, Joy and Peace that I get from reading my Bible everyday and knowing who Christ made me to be in Him, has made me the happiest person on the planet. I have NO desire for the things of the world anymore, bec I removed every single uncleanly thing from before my eyes, because Jesus said if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out. I can't even watch TV because my spirit is SO sensitive to the commercials that used to seem harmless. I can't think of a single sin that is worth going to Hell forever. I now understand that it's impossible to sin.. because we always have at least 3 seconds to think about it, and then we decide if want to (1) Worship God through total obedience, or (2) Worship Satan in our flesh. Once I realized that it's that simple, it is what has been able to kept me 95% obedient; but with that other 5% I instantly repent when I have an unlovable word or thought towards those who saying evil thing about Jesus. If we don't Want to live solely for Jesus now, then God will not Make us live with him forever. I have a list of 182 other verses just like 1st John 3:9-10 from the NT where God warms us to be holy as He is holy by living a sinless life... so that we can go to Heaven and avoid Hell when we die.

There’s no affordable housing anywhere, I lived in my van and worked as a delivery driver across 18 states, I simply don’t make enough money to be able to afford a place to live.

The car life vloggers have no idea about homelessness in a car. It isn't a road trip or a fun thing to do. It's survival and nothing else.

I’ve been here before. Right before the pandemic for 5 months. I had a 3 yr old girl and a 13 yr old boy. I can’t believe we squeezed in my tiny car for that long....it was so scary. The hardest time of being a parent. Pretending to be strong and not scared so my kids would be and wouldn’t be scared. I’m glad we made it thru it.
This is a great film. I'm impressed they touched on women and menstruation since it really complicates things, and makes it much more difficult and a lot of times it's overlooked.

I sometimes think the biggest thing this world lacks is people with compassion, especially the ones who are in a position to do something to help the homeless off the streets. I wish someone with the means to do it would start building efficiency apartments to help get people off the streets. A clean, secure place to live where they can begin to get their lives back on track would do so much. A roof, a door that locks, a bed, bathroom and small kitchen would be golden for many people all across America who just need a helping hand. And once a person is on their feet then they can move out and another needy person could move in and do the same. I only wish I could afford to start up a place like that.

Just lost my job and now apartment. Living in my car starting today wish me luck. I took a few steps beforehand when I saw it coming. I took my last paycheck and got a storage unit and gym membership. I looked into which Walmarts allow overnight parking and I plan to cycle through them for sleeping.
Making money is maybe going to be slightly troublesome but I signed up for Uber since my stuff in in storage. As long as my car is clean I can make it work maybe.
my wife and i wound up living in our pickup truck after i lost my job and she had a serious illness.. when our truck got impounded, we literally slept on the streets. we have managed to work our way into an apartment now and have maintained it for 3 years.. but barely still getting by.. we are good and extremely normal looking people.. you just never know who is going through what or why.. we are celebrating our 10 year anniversary in a few days and my wife, who deserves the world, won't get much.. a heartfelt card and her choice of meal.. but we have a roof and running water.. electric and even wifi.. so she understands sending each and every one of you all of my love and light from Philadelphia

This was so powerful to watch. I was almost in this situation a few times. Homelessness can happen to anyone in a blink of an eye. Please lets continue to look out for and be compassionate to those who are experiencing homelessness.
Man I was homeless while I was in the service. No base housing available at one point and barracks were all full. My father and mother said no to me coming to stay with them although it was a 78 miles drive to base one way I was willing to do it and be most grateful. You find out a lot about yourself when you are living in a car and EVERYONE says no.
I am loving in my car for the third time but this time I have a good job. It amazing to find out how little we need and find better ways to enjoy your money. Im loving it. I stay in a walmart parking lot and they dont mess with anyone as long as you are quiet and dont make a mess. I do have youtube tv so I can watch college football but who needs a tv when you have all the characters in a walmart parking lot lol. I get a hotel room one weekend a month and its such a treat to just sprawl out and recharge.

I am 65 and live in my van for 9 years. There is no hope for the elderly people. I don't smoke, don't drink,don't gamble and never did drugs. I been homeless starting at the age 8 years. Moving to family that didn't want me. But I am strong because I have God by my side. I guess will died in my van. I really don't care anymore. I never had any trouble what so ever because God was by my side. People their is a God and He dont sleep. I dont wish no wrong on my family but they need to read the Bible... God Bless Everyone.
Homelessness is an absurd issue in this country, especially in big cities. It’s happening here in Denver now too. We could repurpose climate controlled storage units, communal bathrooms. It doesn’t need to be fancy, but it DOES need to be a roof over your head. How do you expect people to get a job if there is nowhere to live?
Exactly! It is just mind boggling how we have let this get so huge. We have supposedly 60,000 homeless nearby in L.A. It's shocking to see and read about the homeless numbers skyrocketing in places like Seattle, S.F., Denver.

I got lucky that I had my car but even so, living in your car in wintertime in Denver can suck, especially since that year the nights were also colder than most years. My luck was a friend saw I was homeless and invited me to stay on his computer couch despite having two kids, his wife and MIL living there. I owe him for life.
The most heartless thing I saw was a few years ago in Denver, during a pretty heavy snowfall the cops went to this homeless camp and dismantled it and told the people they had to leave. That was a major WTF moment. They couldn't wait until the next day to do that at least?
I'm from Denver area too and rents are out of control and who makes 3x the amount of rent on a $1300 apartment if I was making $4000 a month I'd be living in a house it's ridiculous one day everyone will be homeless God bless

Living in my car was my CHOICE! I got tired of paying rent, utilities, wifi. I took my seats out, put drawers in, put a bunk gel/foam mattress in the back, and I'm snug as a bug in a rug in my Hotel Camry Mansionette. I put a luggable loo down in the back too for when I have to pee in the middle of the night, and wash it out at a handheld car wash in the morning. AND all my money is MINE! (BTW, I'm a 67 y/o woman veteran). Life is an adventure, a series of chapters. Say YES to New Adventures!

I'm so thankful wheni I lived in my car i had a full time job working nights. Finding a safe place during the day was a little easier. On my nights off my student ID from my college still worked to let me get into a parking garage. It was quiet enough I was never bothered there and felt reasonably safe. I definitely remember crying while washing up in a public bathroom like she did and just generally feeling like I had no privacy to work through my emotions surrounding the life I was living.

I must admit I should be a happy man. I live alone in a house with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths built in 2015 with a 6 acre lot. Tax equals 50 $ anually. I lost job one year ago but I have savings no worries. I live in Poland near Warsaw. Living in US is a nightmare from my point of view.

Same as the woman down below, this brought it back to me, from when I was living in my car too. Till it got stolen while I was living in it. Tears down my face now, I was happy for her at the end. I lost my job of 4 years as a live-in caregiver during the pandemic and ended up sleeping in my car with my dog for a while. Didn't know many people so I didn't have friends to stay with. Lost everything I owned. I was approved for emergency rent assistance but there was a housing shortage and I didn't have any record of your employment for the last four years because I was paid under the table. Also no rental history for 4 years. And no job because I didn't have a home to leave my dog at while I was working. Devastating to end up in this situation and lose everything you own. Takes a toll on your mental health and your self confidence to say the least. Makes you view the world in a whole new way. Great film. Felt like I was watching myself for a minute. 😢
This was me in 1987 after getting evicted in Oregon, all I had was my partially converted school bus to live in and I had to park on the street in the hottest month of the year, no a/c no working plumbing yet, I had my dogs, rolled some coins for dog food and got a box of food from a local church. I knew I had money coming from a life insurance policy but what was supposed to take 2 weeks took 2 MONTHS to get the money.
My neighbor who used to stop by my rented RV pad to see if I needed to go into town discovered I was evicted and drove around and found me.
She knocked on my door and said "my husband and I would like you to come park on our land until you get on your feet" that began a decade long symbiotic friendship. A decade later I moved out of state to pursue a career and we kept the friendship all that time until both of them had passed away, now I keep in touch with his third wife who became a widow last year. Just fantastic people!

We haven’t yet collectively stood up to our government. They’ve used us for their needs. We also have not learned from our history and many people nowadays aren’t interested in this conversation. It’s always someone else’s problem to fix. Praying for change.

She was crying because she couldn't tell people her situation and her girlfriend she had just told she was fine when she asked to stay .
She was so relieved to find the park safe program because she could tell someone what was going on . She is trying desperately to keep it together and hold her head above water . There are people who work and are homeless all over the place .There is seriously something wrong that a person who is working can not find a place to live . Absolutely there has to be affordable housing no one should be on the side of the road unless it is a choice to live mobile .
I currently live in my car and I love it, I’ve never been so free in life. I’m an introvert by nature and when I had my own place, I never got the house ever. Being homeless gets me out and I’m finally socializing.
I'm at my breaking point . living in a van in southern California has become. A nightmare I'm s 56 year old woman. Trying so hard to find a job .I'm passed over for lazy young people who don't have a Carr in the world. It's now the first week of November no job yet , just a few cleaning jobs , cleaned a ,6 bedroom house by myself for 40$ . Took me 7 hour's.giving up at this point. I spend my entire day crying and praying for one break. I feel like a loser I have nothing left in my savings gone . I pray no one has to go through this. I have spent many years without an apartment, I don't like the word Homeless because anyone can have some type of shelter but rather I use the word socially disconnected or socially abandoned. Today I'm still simi disconnected to a traditional living space. But now I don't really seem to care much because everything continues to go up higher and my attitude is even if I get to make enough to afford I would refuse to pay those greedy wealthy land lords one penny. I now have educated myself on how to survive with next to nothing 🎉😊❤❤🎉🎉

I chose to be homeless in my car. I was living at a motel and couldn't stand it anymore. I have been homeless before while working full time and found that I could make it okay since I adapt easily to different situations. And to tell you the truth I missed the night time air that would hit me with my windows down. I sleep with the windows rolled all the way down exposed to danger anybody could come along and enter my van while I'm sleeping and it doesn't even bother me I sleep like a baby much better than I did at the motel. I love it. Maybe I'm crazy I don't know maybe I just need a little danger and uncertainty in my life. Maybe I just don't give a crap anymore.

I wouldn't say that's a choice if it was that terrible. I'm in a similar position, I think I will be better off with my own space even if that space is a hatchback.
I was homeless once too with my son who was only around seven months. It was very sad, but I made it through and there was no one there except for who I thought was a helper for me, a childhood friend, who had me pay her entire month’s rent when I only stayed at her place close to 24 hours. Sometime thereafter I was called for an apartment. After all, I have steered clear of people I thought were there for me and family. Thank God I was able to move forward.
Lived in a van for 3 years by choice, and a car for 6 months so no comparison to someone who has no other choice. Though my time was spent on the west coast of the states, all the way down to Costa Rica doing odd jobs for a place to park and for food. Then the east coast of the states. The east coast is by far the most difficult, in the ithe first two weeks we got moved on 5 times by the police. People are so scared and disconnected from reality there. I've been fortunate to travel a lot and can say that the US if possibly the most broken of all the societies I've lived in, there is just so much contempt for other humans and basic decency seems to have been lost. The scene of the woman knocking on the window of the car says it all, instead of asking if they need help, they call the police.

I was homeless living in a shelter and saw and met a lot of homeless people from all walks of life,listened to their stories. I love that this church stepping up to help by providing a safe parking sleeping place for the homeless. That gives me a voice to contact more places to help by providing safe parking for the homeless people living in their cars. I've seen many different scenarios of the homeless living in cars,in tents,in parks, in abandoned houses and buildings. Its a vicious cycle for some . Some prefer the streets like vets,drug addicts, parolees,prostitutes. Every person is different but I know mercy is needed in the equation of helping the homeless. The churches could do a whole lot more by helping find people homes. I could go on and on about this issue. If you got a empty room in your house, rent it out to a homeless person at an affordable rate that they can pay . A lot of homeless people work, but just need a hand up ,not a hand out. We all have the opportunities to do just that. Alone we can do nothing, together we can do something.

This was an absolutely amazing video. As a California resident, you see homelessness everywhere. I’m from the San Francisco Bay Area and homelessness is a huge problem. I hope to really make a change. This simply cannot continue forever.

When I was in this situation, I remember driving to a food bank because I just couldn't afford any food. They refused to help me because I had a car. They said I was too well off. I had nothing. The people on the line started yelling at me to leave, and it became a whole damn show for everyone there. I left for a while, feeling humiliated and hungry. I had to go back some time later. I was crying, and I told them I was struggling, and that it was my friend's car. I got some food after that.

Not like that in my state. I have actually had to drive over to a few food banks and get help with food in my life. Noone ever said anything about how I got there.
Been here and done this. Lived in a Ford Focus Wagon for about 6 months through an abnormally cold Pennsylvania winter. Worked 60 hours a week, exercised and showered at my local gym I was already a member of for years. I tinted my windows with 0% limo tint so nobody could see me in there. I saved up almost 24,000 dollars in that time. I've since then bought a black Focus 2-door hatchback 5-speed, but I still have the Wagon as a reminder of where I came from and what I've been through. In my honest opinion, the best things you can do it you become homeless are work and save as much as you can while being as frugal as possible, don't tell anybody you are homeless, maintain the best hygiene that your situation allows and take care of yourself through diet and exercise as if your life was completely normal. Other than that just be positive and you WILL get off the streets and back to living a normal life...

When I lived in my car I was thankful I had a car to live in. I saw too many people just living outside pushing a grocery cart. It sucks but it's much better then living in the elements and walking every where. I parked at a bus station with many security guards and they didn't mind people sleeping in there car, so at night I felt fairly safe. But if I didn't have a car I couldn't imagine living on the streets
it's a reality for too many people anymore
Homeless is going up in Raleigh NC and Greensboro NC is getting very bad.
No one should have to live like this. Start groups to push for affordable housing for low come earners and safe places to live.

Most Americans are sadly, 1-2 paychecks away from this situation. What a great short movie. Congrats to all who made this happen. As a long haul trucker I see displaced people(I refuse to call them homeless)daily in all parts of this country and it has gotten worse since the pandemic. I’ve given my winter jackets, my new gloves, my extra pair of new boots to displaced persons along with buying food and giving money to many over my 30yr driving career. I never know if they are using the $$ to buy drugs, booze or for something truly needed.. it’s none of my business as long as for that few seconds that I help them that they feel a short relief from all the pain they are having to endure. It’s sad that in a wealthy country like the USA we have this major issue, especially with military veterans. The gap between the haves and have nots in this country is growing exponentially every day now. Prayers to all who are displaced. To give is the ultimate form of happiness and never pass a displaced person and at least not say hi or ask how they are for 1 day any of us could be that person.
Listen when someone's is homeless a friend what you can do to help even if they cant stay with you :
Following if you can :
Give them a place to shower
Hive them a place to do wash
Go be them at least a place to sleep one night or let them park a couple times by you so they are safe get rest can use a bathroom or shower .
Make sure they get one hot meal with you and can fix some sandwiches or meals
If you can help with water in heat or something to drink ...-...
Even if you can help with some of these things it be great
Masks ... Diaper wipes , PT , hand sanitizer , ... Snacks or food easy to make or heat ..meals .. Even if they came by a few times its a big help to keep someone assistance in making it !

Currently in the same boat as this lady in this short film. Film is totally accurate. Homelessness is not for the weak hearted. Been going strong for abt 9 months now, and I count my blessings everyday because I know that it could be way worse. In the parking lot of an old abandoned movie theater right now.

This story really touched me, reason being, this was my story for a long time. A lot of people don't know or even understand what real honest working people go through. It's hard for anyone to go through hard times, to keep a positive outlook and to know things will get better. The hardest part for me, when l was homeless, was finding a safe place to park at night. There were some nights l would drive around all night, because l didn't feel safe. I appreciate this film to bring awareness to this huge growing predicament that affects many working individuals.

I didn't understand all that her friend said as to why she couldn't come and stay there. I think no matter what you have going on in your life, how much space you have or anything else, you can offer a 4x7 spot on your floor in the corner or a couch for someone to crash. An inflatable mattress and a blanket is all someone might need. Even a screened in porch, a garage, an attic. Something is better than nothing to keep a friend off the street.
Most people in the United States do not have any real friends, just a bunch of so-called fake friends that they do not realize that are not their real friends yet. The United States government has created a society just the way they want it, a divided Society that does not even know that the government is screwing over them so badly and stealing all of their tax money and doing so many illegal things under the table and they do not realize what is going on because they are so busy watching the dog and pony show and Washington DC which is totally fake. I have been all over the world and the American public especially the voting public is the most ignorant people I have ever seen in my life and I just turned 70. So sad but true. I moved to the Philippines after my retirement because I could not stand this America anymore. I have more true friends in the Philippines than I have ever had in the United States. Most of the Philippines people are poor but they will give you the shirt off their back and their last bite of food. I have never seen such friendly people in my life. The America today is not the America I grew up in.

@@oliviaortiz5157 Right?! I became homeless for the first time in 2016, some years after my mom died from cancer. My former step-dad gave me some money to help out, but then immediately kicked me in the teeth by asking, "So are you sleeping under a freeway overpass?" The very question took my breath away! I honestly didn't think he could be so mean, hurtful, and disrespectful. I paused for a moment to keep my composure and then _respectfully_ replied, "No." I haven't spoken to him since.
This is what my son and are going through. Everyone's so worried but no one wants to help so we live in our car. Everyone says that I'm tough that I'll be ok while they sit in thier houses with thier tvs and beds. It's OK tho I am tough.
I used to live in my car a long time ago. One day I could not take it anymore and had enough money saved for an apartment. Ever since, I’ve been working like a maniac seven days a week so I would never have to experience that again. People ask me why I work so much..to get rid of debt and never go back to living in my car situation.

I believe that for those people unable to find work, or chronically I'll and unable to work or have a mental illness that makes it difficult to work there should be a universal basic income. Too many people are burning out at two or three part time jobs just to stay housed.

Living in my car by choice. Just tired of renting. Shouldn't say I live in my car but just sleep in it. Nobody should live paycheck to paycheck. It's not for everybody but there is a community of people on UA-cam that do it. It's a good place to get ideas for your car.
I knew somebody who lived in his car for a spell. He was working for the film industry and he bought the 2 year old Subaru Outback, and paid it off with his per diem while doing location work in Oregon. Meanwhile, he terminated the lease on his LA apartment. And after the three months passed, he had almost entirely owned the car, after applying the $150 the production company gave for room and board.
Me too by choice because to save money. I have a p o box to use as my address it helps a lot. I park my car in a apartment parking lot it is like i am living in the apartment my windows are tinted no one will see me to me nothing wrong sleeping in the car my stuff in the storage.
I'm a 66 year old disabled woman living this in Indianapolis. Nothing like this exists here. I park at Lowe's, a hotel, and Walmart. Homeless help here is shameful. Please pray for me. I am literally thinking of making a sign but I can't stand long.
I lived in my car for a year and a half. The winter was brutal, washing in a bathroom at a park so I could go to work. Everyone at work knew I was living in my car, all of my belongings were in it, but they didnt put me down. I saved up enough to rent a place and moved on up to finally buying a place. It was Very Hard but it can be done. Its scary because there are so many obstacles, but as long as you don't give in to depression you can do it.
The new American Dream, a parking spot, an old car, and a dead end job with no benefits.
I cried a little when she got help ,,, I was homeless with 4 kids,, its so hard to find your way out of these problems ,, One of my daughtes has a foundation for teen and pre teen girls to provide girl stuff for homeless girls ,, she makes me proud

Your film moved me to tears. I posted it on Linkedin, 524 views and counting. I noticed several people, not travelers, sleeping in their cars at the Hunter Hill Safety Rest Area on westbound I-80 in Vallejo near San Francisco, just before westbound CA-37. I noticed a similar situation near Sacramento in Citrus Heights on a residential street next to some apartments, across the street from a shopping center, and on another residential street next to a park, across the street from some single family homes. So sad, especially last winter when it was cold. As requested, I clicked on the link and emailed President Biden, my senators, and my congressman. Best of luck to everyone.
I lived in my car for almost 2 years. Surprisingly it wasn't that bad. The initial adjustment eventually passed and fortunately I was still working. So I my trunk i had my suitcase then next to it was my bag of dirty laundry and I would shower at my gym after working out then do laundry weekly. As I saved more and more (due to not having to rent anymore) I was able to get repairs done on my car and in 2019 I made the decision to move to the east coast for a better life. Now I have a good paying job and my own place. Don't give up. You can make it as long as u keep pushing through 👍👍👍👍

I lived in my car that wouldn’t even start, once broke into a house, went to pawn shop, bought a razor,brush, haircut and change of clothes and worked 3 days to get job at Schlotzskys , quit 2 weeks later after getting cussed at over a sandwich. Instead of killing my boss I enlisted in the army, finished my contract, became an electrician for $20 and now I’m a journeyman making roughly $40/hr to sit around babysitting apprentices and I smoke weed every day. I still think about killing that guy at schlotskys
I've been through this same thing...
We parked at Loves Truck Stops and slept. Then on nights we made enough money, we got a hotel. It's a rough life and really wears you down fast.
I work at a service station in the Pacific Northwest and I see these folks come through during the night shift to gas up and fill water bottles with the hose. We have become a cruel and heatless people.
I feel bad for the homeless dealing with all the heat up there.
Life can change in a blink. Be grateful be careful be mindful.
My apartment in a fairly bad part of LA was 500 a month and it is now 3500, for a one bedroom. And that price increase happened in just the last 3 to 4 years. This is the issue. Greed.
The issue is your state and local government being mismanaged and corrupt while taxing and regulating rentals into the ground.
