The story literally writes itself. Having Wanda go from the "Greiving Madwoman" of Wandavision, to "Remorseful Apprentice of Strange" in MoM to "Corrupted Apprentice seeking to fix what she lost in the worst way" would have been such a cool arc for her character and would have made for a very satisfying emotional arc for Strange throughout his trilogy of movies. Realizing that his ambitions cost him everything, and then being given a chance to help someone in need as the Ancient One helped him, and then ultimately losing her to darkness would have been interesting to see how that would inform his character going forward.
This was when I knew the MCU was over. They made Dr. Strange 2 a B-level Rick & Morty cartoon, made Taskmaster in Black Widow underpowered and cringe and Antman Quantamania a bad SNL sketch.

I wish they’d just stop playing dumb about why they didn’t go full horror….the short answer is money and literal politics (a certain part of the world doesn’t do ghosts, demons, etc.)
Everything here sounds superior to what we got. Wanda being an antagonist felt rushed and forced, should have been built up more. I think she could be a villain, maybe something like House of M, but the motivation has to make sense to people. Thanos and Kilmonger are popular I think because people understand why they’re doing the things they’re doing.
Wait, I thought "woke" ideas weren't really ruining Marvel and other IPs and its really just the toxic fandom? Hmmm... how good would it have been if Feige didn't cave to outside pressure.
Not to mention that “corny stuff” is what makes Raimi’s style stand out. I can’t speak for anyone else but it’s that “corny stuff” that made Evil Dead 2 a classic to me.
I’d rather have a Dr Strange Movie with Nightmare instead as the main villain. Would have been a good way to introduce Sleepwalker and have a Sleepwalker tv show tie in.
Agreed. I love the idea of the sequel villain being a step up in stakes which are also more psychological/internal like he compared to Joker in The Dark Knight.

Lots of seemingly lost potential in Scott Derrickson's version. A tighter story with more character focus that would've given a lot of rich material for Cumberbatch (given he felt Strange was lost in the mix), a powerful bit of backstory & horror with his sister drowning in the lake, a psychological, internal threat in Nightmare, potentially more organic connectivity with WandaVision and set up for her villain turn. A unique full dive into another genre that reports compared to an A24 horror. It could've been one of those sequels that transcends the original in every way & a top 5 MCU film.
Right!? But nope! Apparently, it was more important for Kevin to micromanage Derrickson out of the director's chair, just so he can turn around to micromanage Raimi, while giving his boyfriend, Waldron a pass to do whatever the fuck he wanted.
I seriously don’t get this either, the takeaway would have been that Doctor Strange, who was trained by a powerful sorcerer, is now training another powerful sorcerer. Literally the student becomes the master, then takes on a student of his own.
Iyou didn’t want the trope of man showing up and solving all her problems… so you went with the women are just crazy sometimes trope 💀 they’re equally bad
It actually sounds a lot more interesting and fit the title so much more. Unlike the film we got, the stake is far more believable and strange struggling to defeat the antagonist(Strange is for some reason heavily nerfed in MoM consider he was quite OP in Infinity War). And it wouldn't felt like a repeat of WandaVision or that we need to watch WandaVision to actually understand her motivation.
Yeah, I would've preferred a more psychological villain in Nightmare for Strange having us explore the dream dimension and Wanda's turn being set up for another project rather than having her turn immediately after WandaVision.
Very good point, it really does work both ways. In this case, Derrickson's ideas sound better than what we got. Would it have actually been better, I'm not sure.
I didn't want Strange to serve as Wanda's babysitter either in WandaVision but that explanation of "Man-splaining" makes me wanna barf. That was horrible
Raimi's flair is what saved the movie for me. To think Feige tried to limit it... This the proof I need that Phase 4 being MCU's "experimental Phase" was a lie.
I already had a feeling Raimi was still being limited, but hearing that about the stare scene really shows me Feige was more interested in the fame of "That guy who directed those Spider-Man movies you like so much so we can leech off that name by association." rather than "The creative, Sam Raimi".
A big problem is that all the experimentation & genre-bending is done in the limited MCU storytelling framework. Even Phase 3 was "experimental" compared to what came before with bolder choicer and more diverse protagonists & antagonists after the split from Marvel Entertainment.
Raimi's flair wasn't enough even if it is a nice change for the MCU. The script and story are all over the place still even if a good director is behind the camera. Raimi came to the project too late and wasn't 100% Raimi. The movie felt really tame. Imagine if they gave Raimi more time to tell a good story without stupid changes to the script always happening as was reported.
They need to get Scott Derrickson back to do Dr Strange 3 and finish his Nightmare film as planned. What a great idea and the first film is still one of the strongest MCU entries
Me too, man. I love Nightmare and wanted to see Strange battle him on-screen. Plus, if what Beau DeMayo said is true, Nightmare was to be revealed to be a Stephen variant who'd been corrupted by The Darkhold. I'll admit, I don't like that idea from an adaptation standpoint, but I think I get where Derrickson is coming from (if true). It would be a powerful, chilling reminder for Stephen of what could happen to him if he doesn't confront his fears. But that's just my take on it.
I would have loved to see Strange's storie with his sister. It sounds like an interesting way to bring fragility to a character that tries to had to be strong and in control of the situation. The idea of Nightmare using that against him sounds amazing.
No joke, I cant think of a single dud this channel has produced. I can count on one hand how many channels I watch that put this level of dedication and care into their content. 10/10 popcorns, would recommend
It could've been salvaged if even a small part of the story took place in the Cartooniverse, aka Comic Book Land. It would've been the most accurate MCU movie EVER.
Man, this makes me sad. When I first heard Nightmare was going to be in Dr Strange 2, I was so excited. I didn't think Multiverse of Madness was bad, but I would've much preferred what Derrickson had in mind. Also, The Illumnati being set up like the space marines is hilarious. When I watched MoM, they felt like empty cannon fodder for Wanda. They were glorified bowling pins and she was aiming for a strike. Turns out, that's exactly what they were set up for.
Not to mention Strange and Chavez were just spinning uncontrollably through spaces and they ended up in the one pizzaball universe (so glad dimensions are defined solely by what Earth is like) that just happens to have the Illuminati in it. What a coeenkeedeenk! Brilliant writing!
lol at Feige. Mansplaining? Really? Sorry, last I heard Strange is the master of the mystic arts and saw all those possibilities of them fighting Thanos. Plus, wouldn’t it have been comforting to Wanda to have someone who can relate to having magic too? Someone who could pull her back to the light. That being said, the original plot sounded fantastic and I wish we could’ve seen a mix of that and what we ended up getting, which I still enjoyed.

Man it must suck to make a movie for MCU Feige giving creative freedom to amateur filmmakers(she-hulk, marvels) and restricting freedom for good directors(doctor strange 2, Thor 2) is plain stupid
That assertion is not supported by what is presented in this video essay. This video essay describes how Kevin Feige interfered in the work of two confident directors whilst they each tried to make Doctor Strange 2. No information was forthcoming here concerning other Marvel productions. I find it highly unlikely that - if he was prepared to try to second-guess and micro-manage Derrickson and Raimi - Feige behaves any differently with other projects.

"Feige didn't like the idea of a white male showing up and mansplaining to wanda how her power works" Am I seriously expected to take feige seriously after hearing something that stupid?
He cut out the “mansplainer” and replaced him with someone who basically turns into an apologist for psychological abuse. The part where Wanda is forced to release the citizens and Monica basically tells her “There, there” should have been cut.
You should do one on the lost version of the movie “Cool World” with Brad Pitt and Kim Basinger. The whole story behind the director losing his version from a studio executive’s son was interesting and also tragic.
I know it's super easy to say, knowing what we got, but this would've been such a better film. They did Scarlet Witch dirty with the heel turn instead of the journey to corruption.
Watching this made me want to cry, as a massive Dr. Strange fan I really wish we could've gotten Nightmare as the villain for the sequel. Even if he was a throwaway villain, each Marvel movie should be a love letter to the comics. Plus, it's okay to have a throw away villain sometimes. Because not every threat is gonna be the same. Such as Thanos, Loki, Ultron, and soon Dr. Doom. As a reader of Ditko's comics, it's clear as day that Nightmare is a Dr. Strange villain, just like how Red Skull is a Captain America villain, just like how Ironmonger is a Iron Man villain, it just makes sense. An equal threat to Strange, would be someone of magical power. Beings that aren't just evil, but of an entirely different reality that he'd have to face. I really wish we could've gotten Nightmare, as Sam Raimi is a master of horror. Therefore, sequence after sequence of Strange variants dying or ptsd attacks would've been perfect. Just like the ice lake scene would've been, it's a shame that the sorcerer supreme was Wong in this movie for some reason. It would be a perfect threat for Strange to deal with an otherworldly being after Dormammu's defeat. To aquire Wanda's help wouldn't of been downplaying her accomplishments, it would've given her reassurance that she's not the only one to deal with a loss of a loved one, to face darkness alone while in a mindset that is destructive. It would've put her mind at ease, knowing that even Dr. Strange is tormented every night by things he can't control, and to have Kevin Fiege look at things at face value like that. It makes me realize how much control he shouldn't have, to think we could've gotten gold. But instead got copper, hell it could've been diamonds. If he doesn't even realize that Sam Raimi, the guy who made Marvel what it is today, with spiderman, then what the heck does he say to a more underexposed Marvel director who needs input rather than direction.
I enjoy Sam Raimi's unique touch with the way he directs his movies, however this story just makes it clear how much of a headache making a movie at Marvel must feel like. A far cry from the days of shooting Iron Man 1 were everyone involved just winged it without much of a script and the actors involved managed to have as much influence over the film as the director.
The only good change they made was keeping Tom cruise away from iron man and the MCU as a whole The dude is a poison for cinematic universes, just look at what he did to "the mummy" But besides that, a movie with nightmare as the villain. Scarlet Witch as a growing threat for the 3rd movie and a breif spiderman cameo would of been amazing
'Feige didn't want a white male showing up and mansplaining to Wanda about how her power works.' Honestly, I think Feige's kind of cooked. He told his epic creative story, and now he's just content to sit back and reheat all of those concepts and characters, only in a less interesting and less compelling form. Honestly, he's got to go! Also, that nightmare about his drowned sister would've been horrifying yet entertaining to watch. Isabela Merced is playing Hawkgirl in the new DCU, can't wait to see what she brings to the character.
Honestly, starting every sentence with “honestly” shows how limited your vocabulary is and presumably your critical thinking - honestly, you’re just someone on UA-cam comments who thinks they know better than an entire industry, and honestly - you should be quiet, little buddy

I feel Feige has his heart in the right place, but after watching this video i feel Disney should pull him back a bit. Genuinely wish we got this version of Multiverse of Madness.
So they cut Strange from Wandavision because they didn't want the finale to be a setup for the next project. Yet, they introduced Monica Rambeau and Agatha Harkness who both got starring roles in their own projects. Way to be so fucking wishy-washy Marvel.
7:04 So this was not the right time to introduce Deadpool into the MCU but it was for Professor X and Reed Richards? What a shitty idea, why the hell did they even considered putting Deadpool into the Illuminati?
Wow! It’s crazy to me how we were so close to getting our first MCU horror film and instead got Rami’s crappy result of a movie. They were afraid of making the story too complex ?! .THESE ARE COMIC BOOK INSPIRED MOVIES!!! Doesn’t Marvel realize that some of their greatest comics were complicated story arcs!! What a major screw up!!!
The Robbie Reyes Ghost Rider from Agents of Shield was also in the concept art. That makes more sense considering the Darkhold was on Agents of Shield long before it showed up in the MCU.
Feige's reason for not wanting to include Dr. Strange at the end of WV is just the dumbest shit I've ever heard, and perfectly sums up why the MCU has been such a dumpster fire.
Agreed; Wanda has already shown she's powerful and capable, but she's never had any training to learn how to harness it. Her being corrupted over time by the darkhold and being under Strange's tutelage for a time would make sense and make better use of her as a villain later imo.
Nah fr. They didn't want WV to feel like a setup for the next project... when that's exactly what it was? Like you had to watch WV to understand Wanda's character in MoM, so what kinda crap reason was that?
This is a more obscure topic, but I'd love to see a video on the early scripts for World War Z, which originally seemed like it was gonna look a lot more like the book. Great work regardless, keep it up!
Everybody (Marvel) wanna be gangsta, until it's time to do gangst shit... like having Strange do the weird and insane shit he does in the comics that fans want to see.
i seriously don't understand the people who defend this movie just because of some shots. it sucks. it's terrible. it ruined wanda's character, strange is sidelined on his own movie, chavez is insufferable and didn't even needed to be on this movie. it lacks raimi's style on some many aspects that no one is going to convince me that this film is good just because of some shots that are just references to raimi's older movies instead of something new. and this video just remarks how much better this movie could have been. no chavez, nightmare as this new, joker-type villain that will drive strange crazy. shuma gorath on a much greater role, exploring the multiverse of the lovecraftian and eldritch abominations instead of the boring cameo multiverse. wanda continuing her arc instead of instantly becoming evil, ect.
This version is obviously superior, and the attempted cash grab they went with really hampered an amazing talent like Sam Raimi. I was wholly disappointed by Multiverse of Madness, especially considering how dirty they do Wanda in that film. Not to mention just the mind-boggling lapses in judgment from both the production and characters. The only good thing that came out of this was the fact that it axed any chances of John Krasinski becoming a legitimate Reed Richards, because as charming as he is, I've never thought Krasinski could play the "smartest man on Earth." This was just another one of Jim's many pranks (looks into camera sarcastically).
I disagree, John has been in 100% serious role before and can definitely play Rich. People just look at him and only see Jim need to see other movies/series with him outside of The Office
A Wendigo Forest scene in the nightmare ice lake sequence would've been INSANE and actually scary af. Also I think that Jericho Drumm was also planned to be in the film.
'MoM' is one of the MCU entries I've most thought about rewriting in my head. In my version the main villain isn't Nightmare (I actually didn't know he was in the earlier draft), but rather Chthon, the elder demon who created the Darkhold and attempted to use Wanda to stage a comeback to the mortal plane. I would still have Wanda do bad stuff, but I agree a lot of potential was squandered.
They did Sam Raimi dirty, you could tell that he had almost no creative control, he had to make another cookie cutter mcu movie that tie in to their dumbass TV shows. I hated multi verse of madness, it was shit, but I don't blame Raimi for that. Had he done what he wanted to do, we would've gotten something better. The original plans seem 100x better than what we got smh.
I remember hearing that this movie was going to be more of like a horror movie and i was very excited for it. But i didn't know they decided not to go that route so i went into the movie and felt very disappointed when i felt like this didn't even have that much horror in it at all. I was like, "is that all the horror stuff they were hyping up this movie for? "
I think the takeaway is... Marvel is doing too many rewrites, and their continuity is getting messy. If anything, their "every film and show links together" process is bogging things down and causing more problems now, not less. Directors and writers don't seem to be able to present their best, let alone most coherent story any more, and the whole franchise is suffering.
I would love it if you did a video on the flash movie from 2023. As there was a lot of stuff that was changed before and after the movie. You've hinted at it with the snyderverse videos you have made, but a full on video about The Flash would be amazing.
Im glad you mentioned the covid situation. A lot of people for get that phase 4 wasn't supposed to be as scattered the way it was and it's not the studios fault.
Chavez is supposed to be the only one who could open a multiversal portal. That's like a big part of MoM plot. Then how come Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Electro and gang could be in MCU?
@ThePrinceofHisOwnKingdom That was because of that spell that Spider-Man fucked up because he was an idiot, he could've used Dr. Strange to find him a way to get into the college and if they all know he was Spider-Man, they would've recognized him as a hero for saving the universe, but then again, that was fucked up by Jake Gyllenhal.
You should do a video on the Multiple Man movie that was in development starring James Franco and directed by Simon Kinberg. Would love to see more on how that movie almost got off the ground.
It's almost like if characters exist in an interconnected universe, every movie has to have billion references and connections to other films. Like in the actual comics they don't cross each other that often outside of events. We can have a Doctor Strange trilogy without it having connections to overarching story of MCU. Studio has to understand this. We could've gotten a great Doctor Strange movie exploring his mythos and character arc. But they just ruined him, like they ruined Iron Man trilogy

Loki season 1 released June 9th, 2021 and featured: An ending that was a setup for the next Marvel properties and a black male showing up and mainsplaining to the Lokis why the TVA is and what its really for.
Agreed!
Right!? But nope! Apparently, it was more important for Kevin to micromanage Derrickson out of the director's chair, just so he can turn around to micromanage Raimi, while giving his boyfriend, Waldron a pass to do whatever the fuck he wanted.
“Feige didn’t like the idea of a white male showing up and mansplaining to Wanda how her power works” HE WAS LITERALLY THE SORCERER SUPREME
I seriously don’t get this either, the takeaway would have been that Doctor Strange, who was trained by a powerful sorcerer, is now training another powerful sorcerer. Literally the student becomes the master, then takes on a student of his own.
and scarlet witch's character was assassination anyway.
Apart from that, I dont think it wouldve really worked anyway, since Wanda is a witch, with completely different powers
And then people complain when we point out woke stuff. It always interferes with what could have being a good product.
Obviously Nightmare would be the main villain with Chthon "on maneuvres".
Discovering this channel has helped me realize 2 things.

The whiplash I got from him revealing Fiege almost cut a scene for being too corny. Like did he forget who he hired?
A big problem is that all the experimentation & genre-bending is done in the limited MCU storytelling framework. Even Phase 3 was "experimental" compared to what came before with bolder choicer and more diverse protagonists & antagonists after the split from Marvel Entertainment.
It was not a lie. It was just one minor scene Feige wasn't fond of.

But....Kevin feige is the reason the MCU is what it is today.....
The only good change they made was keeping Tom cruise away from iron man and the MCU as a whole
The dude is a poison for cinematic universes, just look at what he did to "the mummy"
But besides that, a movie with nightmare as the villain.

Derrickson’s original vision is exactly the kind of movie I hoped for when I first heard the title “Multiverse of Madness”
The Robbie Reyes Ghost Rider from Agents of Shield was also in the concept art. That makes more sense considering the Darkhold was on Agents of Shield long before it showed up in the MCU.
The original version would have been much better for both Strange and Wanda from a longer term storytelling perspective. Great video! ❤🎉

What else is he going to ruin

I disagree, John has been in 100% serious role before and can definitely play Rich. People just look at him and only see Jim need to see other movies/series with him outside of The Office
Krasinski was a fan favorite to play the role, alongside Emily Blunt was wished for Sue Storm and Channing Tatum for Gambit.
A Wendigo Forest scene in the nightmare ice lake sequence would've been INSANE and actually scary af. Also I think that Jericho Drumm was also planned to be in the film.
Hollywood Execs: "You only have three weeks to write the script."
Also Hollywood Execs: "Why are our big movies failing at the box office?"
The Hobbit movies were rushed as hell and all of them got 900 million at the box office.
Sadly that doesn't mean anything always 😢
'MoM' is one of the MCU entries I've most thought about rewriting in my head. In my version the main villain isn't Nightmare (I actually didn't know he was in the earlier draft), but rather Chthon, the elder demon who created the Darkhold and attempted to use Wanda to stage a comeback to the mortal plane. I would still have Wanda do bad stuff, but I agree a lot of potential was squandered.
I wanna see another doctor strange movie from scott derrickson
Btw, love your content
Can you do a “What happened with Thor Love and Thunder” next?
The MoM we were robbed of. Would have been much better than the version we got which was an unnecessary cameofest.
Nightmare should’ve been main the villain for Dr. Strange 2!!!!
Im glad you mentioned the covid situation. A lot of people for get that phase 4 wasn't supposed to be as scattered the way it was and it's not the studios fault.
Oh my goodness the original plan is soooo amazing.
Well, that explains the ginormous plot hole between NWH and MoM.
What plotholes?
Chavez is supposed to be the only one who could open a multiversal portal. That's like a big part of MoM plot.
Then how come Doc Ock, Green Goblin, Electro and gang could be in MCU?
@ThePrinceofHisOwnKingdom That was because of that spell that Spider-Man fucked up because he was an idiot, he could've used Dr. Strange to find him a way to get into the college and if they all know he was Spider-Man, they would've recognized him as a hero for saving the universe, but then again, that was fucked up by Jake Gyllenhal.
I feel I always preferred MoM coming before NWH.
@@TheGoldenPlatoon757 So the spell could open multiversal portal too? Dang, Chavez wasn't unique after all.
"*See Blahblahblah Issue #274 -- Editor"
Can't tell you how many times I saw that little, yellow, rectangular notice in comics while reading them long ago.
Kevin Feige didn't wanted the MCU to be known as a saga that only set up future movies, and then he made The Marvels being a continuation of two TV shows 🤦♂️
It's like the guy was boycotting Captain Marvel related stuff from the beginning 😒
Gosh it's not like they explain the shit that went down in Wandavision and Ms Marvel in the movie- OH WAIT!
thadmaster7 Just what general audiences crave: homework via subscription.
3:10 betting he was just kidding there
Man I really hope so...🤦🏻🤦🏻
We're gonna have a problem if Kevin believes that. He helped lay the ground work he can't be that stupid right?
3:03 But that’s exactly what Marvel became…..
He describes it as "wanting to prevent a reputation" while I think they really meant "wanted to breakaway"
And they made the Agatha show anyway, which i doubt few care about.
@@zeeski7454 they made a series about Franklin Richards babysitter before anything good with heavy hiters the X-Men, Nova, Silver Surfer, Ghost Rider and others.
@@amadeusagripino6862Because when Disney bought Fox, Phase 4 was already planned. COVID also didn’t help.
I continue to wonder how this movie would’ve turned out in a non-pandemic reality, as it was initially supposed to release before No Way Home. Thanks for making this video!
If any studio wants to make good movies again then they need to remove executives completely from the process. Writers, directors, actors should be in charge of the ART.
Maybe others wouldn’t want this, but I’d love a video showing what could’ve been with the three stooges movie. I know Sean penn and Jim Carrey were attached to it at one point. Curious about what that would’ve been like
Damn, that would have been actually cool! AND having Wanda be the villain in a later project would just work better.
Kevin Feige's management of the MCU kind of reminds me of the French Revolution. It originally started out as a noble cause with the best of intentions to do good, but it eventually devolved into "the reign of terror".
"...they were uncomfortable with ending the show (Wandavision) as a setup for the next Marvel property, as they were concerned they were developing a reputation for each film and show feeling like they were promotional tools for future projects and wanted to avoid that perception.
Not only that, but Feige didn't like the idea of a white male showing up and mainsplaining to Wanda how her power works."
Wandavision released January 15th, 2021.
Loki season 1 released June 9th, 2021 and featured:
An ending that was a setup for the next Marvel properties
and a black male showing up and mainsplaining to the Lokis why the TVA is and what its really for.
We could've had NIGHTMARE and an actual Dr. Strange sequel adapting actual Dr. Strange comic lore. We could've had a legit Shuma Gorath and Clea for most of the movie.
Instead we got a movie where Strange felt like a B character for most of his own film, a Mr. Fantastic cameo/ tease that led to nothing, and a rehashing of Strange and Christine's relationship from the first Dr. Strange and What If.
I almost wish I didn't know what could've been with this one.
