  • This is part 1 of a 3-part series of videos documenting my 3-day trip to Stewart, BC and Hyder, Alaska. I share my experiences and some travel tips to maximize your chances of seeing bears.
More information about the Fish Creek Wildlife Observation Site:
All visitors 16 years and older require a day use ticket. The tickets are valid for any dates from July 1 through mid-September. Upon arrival, your ticket will be validated for that day, regardless of which day the ticket was purchased for. Ticket options include a 1-day, 3-day, or 7-day ticket option, which will provide non-consecutive day use for 1, 3, or 7 days. Fish Creek is officially open from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm daily, but because we went pretty late in the season, the platform did close early, around 9pm, at dusk. Forest Service employees are at the site during these hours to provide information about the bears and salmon, enforce site rules, and answer any questions from visitors, so I suggest chatting with them to learn some interesting facts about the animals and the area.

Some of the clips of the bear were taken by my lovely mother. I appreciate her letting me use her footage! ❤️

A few of the videos of the bear were taken in lower light conditions early in the morning and are a bit fuzzy. I hope the lower quality of these clips doesn't detract from your enjoyment of the video :)
Here are a few lovely quotes about grizzly bears. Feel free to share if you have any!
“I’ve seen a few wild grizzly bears, mostly in Alaska and British Columbia, and always from a distance. But each grizzly I’ve caught sight of was as fearsome and sublime as the last. You never get used to their raw power and massive bodies, or the mysterious intelligence in their dark, close-set eyes.” - Lydia Millet
“Bears are a reminder of the wildness that still exists in our world.” ― Steve Backshall
“Those who have packed far up into grizzly country know that the presence of even one grizzly on the land elevates the mountains, deepens the canyons, chills the winds, brightens the stars, darkens the forest, and quickens the pulse of all who enter it.” - John Murray

We visited back in 2013, it is the luck of the draw we saw lots of bears on 3 consecutive days. It’s well worth a visit, traveled over from UK. Great video by the way
