When watching MASH, notice that Gary Burghoff's (Radar's) left hand is always hidden behind a clipboard or his teddy bear. Gary was born with a deformed left hand that was missing fingers. He was one of the first long term, truly physically disabled actors to appear on TV for any extended period of time-without being a token disabled character. Just an interesting fact. By the way, you'll never watch MASH the same way again without hunting for the rare moments of the quick exposures of Gary's left hand. You're welcome. :)
James Doohan from the original Star Trek was missing a finger and hid his right hand in every shot of the show and the movies. I didn't find out until after he died. I only found out about Gary's hand just a couple years ago.
Well, on M*A*S*H, he kind of had to. Realistically, the army probably wouldn't have let Radar into the service with a deformed hand. But then again, Hawkeye said in one episode that Radar was asthmatic as well, so that certainly would have made him 4F as well.
Two fantastic actors❤❤
Gary must have been just a kid. I didn’t realize he did so much before Mash. He’s excellent!
I never saw this before it was really very touching.. thanks so much for sharing
Excellent! great writing, great acting, great feeling.
This was very touching. Reminded me of some bad times eye was going through when eye was on the streets. Or maybe they were my finest times!
He's wearing his Radar hat. How cute.
I've found hats like that, they're great, they rare leave my head.
@@JosephScarbrough Where can I get one?

I remember my dad telling me about that when I was a kid. :)
Sean Sturgill you know your message is put the same exact way on another video
If only they could do it without hiding his hand, but someone with atypical hands would not have passed the army physical.

If anyone needs a refresher course on the story of Christmas please read Mathew,Mark,Luke and John.
Interesting that Gary isn't trying to hide his left hand like he often did on Mash.

@@JosephScarbrough Of course Radar was just a clerk, and not a soldier or doctor.
Was Dean ever sober?
Ironically, he was while working with Jerry Lewis.
He was sober all the time, him being a drunk was just a gimmick.
When he performed, the drink in his hand was actually apple juice.
Martin wasn't the drunk that he pretended to be. Unlike Johhny Carson who was a (mean) drunk and tried to hide it!
Dean rarely wore anything but the tux on the TV show - so this was a big deal.
Radar came home from Korea just to end up a bum in Brooklyn
Where is this from?
HufflepuffGirl 16 I too wish to know this!
Watch til the end and you will get the awnser you been looking for😉😅
