      Question - i live at Ocean Isle Beach North Carolina and i'm looking for a fishing kayak to use on Intracoastal Waterway. Would this be good? I've never owned a kayak i've been in one years ago buy not in a while so i am wondering 1) do you think it would be a good fit for the ICW? 2) is it hard to paddle this kayak 2-4 miles? I live like 3 miles from Ocean Isle Beach bridge and i would like to be able to paddle it down there. Do kayaks like tend to be easier or harder to paddle a ways?If you lived where i do what would you do? Get it or go with something else? If so - what? It would also be cool if i could use it to paddle all my baits out when i'm shark fishing on the surf. Do you think that would work with this or would that be a bad idea? Pleaseeee help man summer will be gone b4 we know it and i really need help finding a kayak (this one) or one like it in this price range to use on the Intracoastal to get back up in some of the creeks and cut backs on the island. PLEASE!

      SINister Gaming As with most things, I would say it depends. The main thing with this kayak is the fact that you are going to sacrifice some speed for stability. So if one of your main priorities on the flats is to be able to stand and fish then I would say this is a good choice. If you are covering a lot of water just understand it’s not the fastest kayak out there.

    • @delmasstout8709

      SINister Gaming I would say that for the the price and customizing potential. This kayak is hard to beat! A friend that owned a Bonafide 127 said stability, speed and tracking are similar enough. Especially with the outlaw being half the price. With a more walkable frack as well. This is my first kayak and I’m a large man of at least 330. This kayak is awesome! The only time I’ve fell off was when I wanted to. Lol! It has my stamp of approval!!!! FOR SURE!

    Nice review. Bought the Outlaw yesterday and went immediately from the store to the river I frequent a few days a week. As someone who started kayaking with 16ft touring boats 20+ years ago and fishing with 16ft Tarpon sit-on-top, then moved to Perception Hook Angler 10.5 (started cracking in hull where seat mount is "mold welded" to the hull, plastic welding even with reinforcement is cracking) the Outlaw is very comfortable and my first boat that I can stand up on with no worries. My Tarpon was 65lbs, excluding the anchor system and rudder but I loaded it onto any vehicle roof easy enough. The Outlaw is 77lbs but being shorter it is easier for me to balance overhead for raising onto my car roof (haven't loaded it onto an SUV yet). The Hook 10.5 weighed maybe 40lbs and was a breeze to throw on any roof but I feel the lighter weight and construction of the seat base to the hull are the reason for failure, but it had a good run over 5 years with 3-4 days of use every summer.
    With only one day of paddling I am very happy with this boat and could never go back to a non-stand-up type boat for fishing and will compromise with the weight. I feel like I need a longer paddle though with how high the seat is as I could not get into an efficient paddle of rotating my torso and getting any propulsion at the same time, instead I need to reach far to each side and pull with my shoulders, and while doing so making lots of noise with each paddle as the paddle blade is only under water for a short stroke and still not getting much thrust.
    My first mod will be adding an anchor trolley, and finding a way to do so without making cutouts to get my hands into the bow and stern to hold fastening hardware (nuts and washers). Probably going to go the route of slightly larger drilled holes to accept rubber nutsert bungs, simalr to what hold some factory roof rails to vehicles.

      Glad to hear you enjoyed the kayak. The “Tri Grip Rivets” are a good solution for attaching things where you can’t reach the back side of the attachment point. They flare out on three sides and are solid.
      Here is a link to some if you are curious. Thanks for the nice detailed comment as it helps others that come here!

    Good review. I'm a long-time Perception fan and I like the look of this new boat. The simplicity of the design keeps it light and affordable, and the lack of "dry" storage -- which usually isn't really dry anyway -- is actually an advantage because it eliminates places where waves can slosh over and get water inside the hull. I'd buy one if my family didn't already have eight kayaks and a canoe. Liked and subbed.

    • @RhinoJoeOutdoors

      It really depends on your intended use. How much do you think you will be on the creek vs lake? If it’s primarily a lake kayak you occasionally take on streams I would say either is a good choice. If you want a stream kayak I would recommend the Jackson Kayak coosa or the crescent kayaks shoalie.

    Debating on this or the Lifetime Teton Pro 116. Both I've heard good thing price difference is the big thing. The Lifetime is $250 less. Not going to do a ton of fishing but I am a bigger guy so want stability especially it being my first Kayak. Thoughts?

    • @RhinoJoeOutdoors
      @RhinoJoeOutdoors  Рік тому

      The outlaw will probably be more stable and the seat looks to have more adjustability. A big factor of enjoyment is the comfort of the seat. The hill design of the outlaw is really stable. The lifetime Teton doesn’t look like a bad kayak though. Just depends on what you are looking for. I also understand $250 is a big chunk of cash. If you are a bigger guy it’s hard to go wrong with the outlaw in my opinion.

    Yes this yak is kindve a tank to paddle against the current. You can add small 5" dry compartments but nothing bigger. Hell yeah a free lure can't beat the price. Just bought one and so far I love it. I am wondering about the various mounting options. It didn't come with an owner's manual and perception doesn't make one specific to this kayak describing all it's features which is mindboggling. Are those round caps around the edge for mounting? Do the tracks accept all kinds of mounts or specific ones? Thanks. Great video. Also what size paddle do you use. With the height being as high as it is, I was figuring around a 250cm?

    • @RhinoJoeOutdoors
      @RhinoJoeOutdoors  4 роки тому +1

      The track mounts are compatible with any track mount system like yak attack track etc. I like using the track ball to mount stuff on the track.
      The perception solo mounts are a brand specific thing that perception produces. I’ve never used it honestly.

    So I been in the market for a new kayak for a few years now... The one I'm currently using is a sit in and honestly it does everything I need.. The only problem is the seat, after a few hours it is not comfortable at all.. So I've been looking at a few sit on tops and this is one of them.. They all seem to gave a decent chair. And would probably suit my needs.. I'm generally river fishing in their one I've got now and paddle up to maybe 2miles downstream then back up when I'm done. How do you think this kayak paddles? I've got a buddy that has a feelfree lure and we fished together a few times and when I got back to the launch he is hundreds of yards back. So I got into his kayak and paddled down river a bit and then back and his kayak was alot of work getting back to the launch.

    • @RhinoJoeOutdoors
      @RhinoJoeOutdoors  3 роки тому

      I would say if you spend the majority of your time paddling up and floating back down to go with a kayak that is more efficient for paddling. This one is very stable but also as a part of that has a lot of drag when it comes to paddling. My Jackson Cuda 12 paddled a lot more efficiently

      I do believe so. It has good initial stability (when you stand flat) and great secondary stability (more weight on one side or leg). Just remember to keep your center of gravity over the middle of the kayak. Most people tip when reaching for a lure. I think it’s way more stable than a Jackson coosa or Cuda.

      I would say so. Talked to a few people who have bought this as their first kayak. It’s stable. Not the fastest kayak to paddle long distances but often times the thing that scares people away from kayak fishing is tipping over so I would say so. The price is also very compelling. I’ve heard of multiple people getting them with 20% off etc at Dunham’s sports.

      I have not had any lower back pain from the seat. I usually don’t fish as much in this kayak as my other one but I didn’t have any issues. I do always make sure to stretch before and after I fish in a kayak. I did a video on some of my favorite stretches. Stretching has really helped me a lot. ua-cam.com/video/3rlZRBmkN8s/v-deo.html

      I haven’t had it out on a larger lake because I usually use my native slayer max propel for that. I would say it should be plenty stable. It’s more stable than my old Jackson Cuda 12 and I fished big lakes in it

    Do you think the seat would make this kayak top heavy in class ll or lll rapids?

    • @RhinoJoeOutdoors
      @RhinoJoeOutdoors  4 роки тому +1

      I personally don’t think so but the larger issue (for me) would be how well it tracks because in some rapids you need a boat that turns really easy and this one really catches the current of the flow hits the side of the kayak.

      Hey Mike, I wouldn’t feel right telling you as I don’t have experience with the Vite. I did have a Jackson Cuda 12 and I’ll tell you I think the hull design of the outlaw is much more stable. It’s not as fast though. It’s a compromise.

    • @RhinoJoeOutdoors

      The outlaw is going to probably be more stable but the Pescador pro will probably be a little bit faster on the water and more efficient paddle.

    • @RhinoJoeOutdoors
      @RhinoJoeOutdoors  4 роки тому +2

      Those are called scupper holes to let water off the deck. They are built like that so if you get water from rain, splash, or wherever to flow back down and away from the standing deck. Some people will use scupper plugs in the winter but I’d recommend a nice pair of dry pants or a dry suit and dry boots.

    • @RhinoJoeOutdoors

    Is there no integrated paddle holder on the side? Or perhaps an ability to add one? Seems a bit awkward to have to stash the paddle under the bungee cover up front, plus if I got this I'd want a cooler up there anyway to stash caught fish...

    • @RhinoJoeOutdoors
      @RhinoJoeOutdoors  4 роки тому +1

      It does not but you could easily attach one to the track mounted at either side of the seat with a rotogrip or similar paddle holder. I’ve kayak fished for years and never used a side paddle holder except when my kayak was in transit on my vehicle. I usually hold it in my lap ready to one handed paddle to maintain position. Hope that helps you out.

      @@RhinoJoeOutdoors There is one on the left of the seat. But you cant have a rod in the inner rod holder. Find the subtle hook by the cup holder. That lines up with the back inner rod holder i dention.
