If you want big Lingcod, try fishing south of Eureka on what they call the Lost Coast. 25 to 50#ers are very common.

everyone should take their barebone kayak out on the surf and practice. when i was first learning i took it out to alameda and practice self rescue. it was quite fun..
that rod advice only works for smaller fish… not many folks walk around with 100#+ rods when you aim for tunas you better have a 300# rig haha
Probably need a motor too not paddles, he did say minimal fishing 🍻

Duuuuude! Yeah I remember my first flip coming back in. Really misjudged the last big wave. Went sideways and the kayak flipped over me. It’s more of a scare than dangerous if you know what to do and don’t panic. One thing I learned was to get on the back of my kayak and if I misjudge a wave I can likely stay upright and “surf” into shore. Just make sure you’re able to easily bail off the back of the yak.
