Isometrics also help you dial into feeling the muscle being used. When you go back to moving a weight, you’ll be able to contract it harder, since you’ve developed that neuromuscular connection.
When it comes to calisthenic related training, doing isometric reps for push ups, dips, and pull ups etc are absolutely perfect in my experience on building muscle and even relative strength! It can also work well with doing leg training too. Once I perform the rep, I would contract the specific muscles as hard as possible while counting about 5-10 seconds. With this type of training, it helped me with my mind muscle connection very well giving me body awareness of my muscles. With that, I was able to gain a good amount of size. Especially when doing them with extra weights with a dip belts would be even better for progression!

Very nice approach. Mind muscle connection is so important.

What is the optimal frequency? Can you train maximum contractions every day? What is too much?
depends on the rest of your lifestyle. I would stick with 2 times a week and see how your nervous system is responding

When you deplete those chemicals, aren’t you training your body to replenish them more efficiently?
great point. I'd assume yes as long as they are available through your diet.
