The Caprice is essentially a higher spec Statesman with more standard features such as leather seats and the LS1 came standard. Many standard features on Caprices were optional on Statesman. The optional extras on Caprices that you stated I believe weren’t available on Statesman
There was a Senator for the Vy generation Commodore. The Senator is HSV version of the Calais and the Grange is the HSV version of Statesman/Caprice.
Prime Minister did used both LTD and Caprices throughout history but in recent times they always used Caprices before they ceased production and currently use 7 Series.
Fairlane Ghia was the rival to the Statesman and LTD was the rival to the Caprice. I personally prefer the Ba/Bf Fairlane/LTD to the Wk/Wl Statesman/Caprice but both are awesome cars and the Wk/Wl Grange are imo the most underrated and best looking HSV’s next to the Manta
Hopefully a few will find these facts interesting and I apologise if any of these are incorrect but I believe they should be right

Gonna have to disagree and say a S3 VS grange is the best of the best with a 185i roller, with the WK/WL close in second. The WL grange with the ls2 would be my pick if I couldn’t get the VS.

Great review! Keep the content coming! This will be a long comment as I try to explain the differences and similarities of the Statesman and Caprice. I worked at Holden for a few years and owned a few statesman's and Caprices.
Similarities, both had either the 3.8 litre engines or the 5.7 LS1 V8. Both had the 4L60e Auto, both had 3 window multi-funtion trip computers, both had electric tilt and height adjustable front seats, both had adjustable front seat belt heights and both had a 10 speaker sound system with a 6 stack in dash CD player and reverse parking sensors. Options for the Statesman were leather seats, premium blaupunkt audio, level ride suspension, sunroof and turn by turn DVD based sat nav. The Caprice had most of the options of the Statesman fitted standard and the standard issue engine was the LS1 V8. The only options on the Caprice over the Statesman was a sunroof and sat nav. The DVD player system in the rear seats of the Caprice was standard if you optioned the V8. Other standard inclusions of the Caprice was the memory power front seats, auto dipping passenger side mirror when reverse was selected, special shadow tone headlights and fog lights, FE1.5 luxury sports tuned suspension with 17 inch alloys.
Hope this explains it and helps you out mate.

Thank you for reviewing the Holden Caprice. I am in the United States and thank you for sharing the Australian auto industry. I will try explain the difference. The difference between the Holden Caprice and Statesman is like things were in the United States like the Oldsmobile 98 and 88 and the Buick Park Avenue and LeSabre. One has more features( Olds 98 and Park Avenue) and luxury options and the other has a little less( Olds 88 and LeSabre).

@@pete508 I own three 3 b series, two of them v8's. Even though I know Holden make a much more reliable v8, especially compared to Ford's 3 valve Triton. Just google that engine and you wouldn't go near it with a barge pole. But I did, (in my G220) and so far, so good. It does have timing chain slip at first start up ( very common with the 3 valve) I guess I like to be different, hence my v8's. I only bought my inline 2008 BF II Fairmont because it was from a family member, and it was even optioned with the six speed. But it's up for sale, and only after 6 months I know the Barra 190 is not for me. Its like new, there is nothing wrong with it, but I prefer to Drive my G220 4 speed, for its quiet effotless power, and unmatched ride. And don't get me started on my 2005 whipple s/c BA GT, with every factory option and only 70,000 km. In essence, I own a soon to be sold Barra 190 ZF and it was found wanting

Yes, EVs are not perfect but there are plenty of car loving folks who accept that our love of fuel burning vehicles will be a hobby and there will be better ways to get around soon. Large SUV EVs with massive batteries make no sense efficiency wise, but when have you guys ever criticised a RAM or an F 150? Past the first gen, we will have cleaner energy production and bountiful, cheap electricity. But you gotta walk before you run. Remember the Benz cars running around with 4km per hour speed limits circa 1900? That's where we are at. And you dudes are the ones extolling horses. Cheerio Luddites.
