I broke my Apple Watch and instantly listed it for sale as cracked when I read about how hard it was to repair (I’ve never repaired any smart devices or anything). I found your channel just in recommended a few weeks ago, and came across this video at 4 AM that day. I was amazed at how easy you made it seem! I bought the replacement screen, tools and the force touch sensor, and decided to do it myself! I removed the listing on eBay, and got to work! 30 minutes later I had a working Apple Watch again! Thank you Hugh Jeffreys!

mineTurtle dmg Yeah, my last phone I had for 3 years and I never broke the screen. Accidents happen and even with my clean track record with my last phone I can easily drop this and shatter the screen completely with a bad drop

Instead of buying a new screen when i replaced mine, I just bought an icloud locked watch off of ebay because it was cheaper. The screen was in perfect condition and I got extra parts.

He never said it was a Christmas gift - only that it fell off of their wrist when they were trying to put it on on Christmas day.
I dropped my watch from the bathroom counter and it shattered that bad if not worse.

Paying more money for a smaller oled display....
mashed potatoes the only explanation I can think of is it’s either harder to make the Apple Watch display, or it just costs more because it’s an Apple product
$227 for the screen is crazy when it's roughly $250 to just buy a new series 3 watch all together.
I think it is AUD. So he spent about $290 AUD which is about $200 USD. Only saved him $50 to $80 USD total.

I restored a Apple Watch series 2 42mm it only cost me like 14 dollars and the repair was from an activation locked watch. Just removed one battery to put in a different watch and worked perfectly. You’ve inspired me to try after watching almost every apple repair video you have.

I had mine on in a boat when I leaned over the side, my watch band broke and the watch went straight to the bottom of the lake. that's what I get for buying a cheap watch band and using it for 3 years and wearing my waterproof watch on a boat.

the lcd was perfectly good but the digitizer was bad, sad you needed to get a whole new lcd

Electroblubluツ depends on if you wanna find out. Lmfao. The glue on the back should be strong enough to create a seal, but its you taking a chance. When replacing the 7 8 or X/xs screens there is a small seal of glue around the frame keeping water out. I imagine it’ll be fine. But again, its up to you if youd like to take it in. I mean my 7 took a splash in a toilet when i was brushing my teeth and i had the new seals (mot the OEM one) it works fine still

Anyone have a good professional toolkit for fixing phones, where the y000 screws don't strip?
I vouch for iFixit pro tech toolkit. I'm just a hobbyist, but all the repairs I've done with it already returned the cost of the toolkit itself

Ethan_ McFly i found a cheap $14 from amazon. Given the y000 was stripped so bought another off ebay for $5. Total comes out to $20 (roughly) but i havent had a fail yet. (The y000 was stand alone)
The $14 kit came with less items then the IFIXIT tool kit given im not doing it constantly

I did this as well with a Gold Series 3 42mm with cellular which I restored the screen by separating the glass from the OLED panel and using loca glue to put the new digitizer and glass on. The problem with the series 2 onwards is that the digitizer IS the glass which makes the part more expensive but far less than a full panel. It only costed me $55 to replace the part and then I put new adhesive around the edges but it won’t stay fully connected properly.

very informative video, hugh. I had a series 0 apple watch myself, before i left it on the charger for way too long and it got stuck in a bootloop as a result. I now have an apple watch series 1 from walmart that was ~200 USD
