unbreakable.
The fact Marc uses just a 6 string on these first few albums is insane.
But the guitars only in Drop B here. You really don't need a 7 string to get a technical djenty sound. Listen to Substructure, they also only use 6 strings. Needing 7 strings is a myth, but it can be helpful when aiming for lower notes or a quick mix of high notes and lows. For instance, in We Bow in it's Aura, it is probably easier to use a 7 string and play the notes on 1st fret lowest string (tuned to drop B) that quickly escalate up to 12th fret in 16th notes on a 7 string because that lowest string will be closer to the highs (5th fret) but probably not by much tbh.
Marc writes the greatest breakdowns blows me away every time

Eclipse is their best album for sure, the expansions in instrumentation and songwriting plus the production boost are big improvments; CMC and Id are still incredible albums though. Brandon Butler is a god, his lyrics/vocals have been by far the most consistently incredible elements

I would prefer to hear this song on the last tracks on Eclipse. I feel like ID is a more melodic album of VoM, though Unbreakable is a good opening song on ID I think the intensity and dark feeling on this song would be much better as one of the closing song of their darkest album Eclipse.

+KaBoKaTion I think this wouldn't fit on Eclipse. Eclipse is more focused on rythm rather than melody. And yeah, I kind of get the periphery thing for Eclipse and it makes it my least favorite album (with brandon as vocalist). I think unbreakable has its place on ID. Pay attention to the melodic parts of this song. the breakdowns etc, you can get the same feel from dark passenger, namaste (the ending breakdown for instance). And you can also get a feel of codex in the part at the 1:00 mark. It sure isn't as obvious as the feeling shared between conquer, the higler and resistance, but it has some obvious ID elements. :)
I don't get why almost half of vom fan hate eclipse. The most darkest and energetic album of them. ID is more melodic. Unbreakable is so energetic less melodic..
KaBoKaTion I think it's because there's less technical elements. If you compare the common man's collapse and eclipse, you'll see that on TCMC, all of the songs are powerful, fast drumming blast beats with shredding riffs and a good formula for breakdowns
Not too much, just enough, at the right places with original but quite simple patterns too. Eclipse on the other hand, has powerful songs too, BUT has more "lame", maybe more predictable songs, kind of fillers in my opinion. I started with eclipse but when I heard TCMC, damn, it won over eclipse for me. I love eclipse though, the songs I like are winter is coming soon but then again, marc said it was written for TCMC. I also love the song eclipse, 20/200, vicious circles, the glass slide and punisher. That's all and like 60% of the album compared to 100% for ID and TCMC. Maybe I'll give this album another try.
You're right. but eclipse catches me because the creative.catchy and better production than the older ones. The parts you call fillers are so unique on the metal industry that I like so bad. TCMC is more tech and even more powerful but eclipse is dark.. so fucking dark that it gives me the chills...
